William Davidson Fitzgerald (well-known Virginian abolitionist/anti-secessionist who was imprisoned and died in Castle Thunder, a CSA prison) & Sarah Fitzgerald


Civil War Service:
Enlisted 2nd Mississippi Infantry CSA in Alcorn County, MS
Captured in Feb 1862: CSA surrender at Battle of Fort Donelson, Arkansas to Union forces under Ulysses S. Grant
Forced march to Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL
Exchanged for Union POWs
Returned to Mississippi, captured again by Union as a CSA deserter
Signed loyalty oath to Union and employed as Union Scout



Married to: Mary Josephine Kistler in Prentiss County, MS

A.M Fitzgerald did not come to Texas till after 1872.
