William E. Fitzgerald was the son of Nathan and Julia Ann Fitzgerald, who came to Texas from Mississippi in 1870 and settled in the Oak Grove community south of Rice in Navarro County.  Will was a successful farmer in Rice for many years.  He died in 1937 and is buried with his wife, Mary Etta Campbell Fitzgerald in the Rice Cemetery at Rice, Navarro County, Texas

Mary Etta Campbell married William E. Fitzgerald in 1889, reared their family in Rice, Texas, died in 1954 and both are buried in the Rice Cemetery at Rice, Navarro County, Texas.

Mary Etta (Campbell) Fitzgerald

Rice Resident Services Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. W. E. Fitzgerald, 81, who had resided near Rice for 65 years, were held Friday at 5 p.m. from the Haynie Memorial Methodist Church in Rice. Burial was in the Rice cemetery. The rites were conducted by Frank L. Coxx, Ennis Church of Christ minister.

Mrs. Fitzgerald died Thursday afternoon at Ennis following a three weeks’ illness.

Surviving are three sons, M. V. Fitzgerald, Rice; W. S. Fitzgerald, Ennis, and C. M. Fitzgerald, Galveston; two daughters, Mrs. Sam Feagins and Mrs. L. D. Murff, both of Rice; 14 grandchildren; a brother, W. A. Campbell, Alma, and a half-brother, Jess Morris, Telico.

PIONEER RESIDENT RICE DIED EARLY WEDNESDAY THERE

RICE, Jan. 20.—(Spl.)—W. E. Fitzgerald, aged 60 years, native of Mississippi but resident of Rice practically all of his life, died here early Wednesday morning. Definite funeral arrangements had not been made Wednesday morning but will probably be held Thursday afternoon with burial in the Rice cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, five children, Mrs. Emma Lemons, Mrs. Luther Murff and M. V. Fitzgerald, all of Rice; Cecil Fitzgerald, Bazette; and William Fitzgerald, Waco; two brothers and a sister, Mrs. Frank Morris, Navarro; two brothers, Ed Fitzgerald, Parker county, and George Fitzgerald, Wichita county.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the Christian church and Masonic lodge.

RICE, Jan. 27.—(Spl.)—Funeral services for W. E. Fitzgerald were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Wimbish, pastor of the Church of Christ at Ennis and assisted by Rev. Oliver and Rev. Henry of Rice. Pallbearers were Jesse Pollan, Roy and Charlie Hall, Ernest Cummins, Jesse Dyer and J. K. Bradley. Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Brackin and daughter, Lorene, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Ford of Cleburne; Mr. and Mrs. L. R.
