Richard Mays

Richard Mays was a prominent criminal attorney and married to a Pace heiress (later to my grandmother for 6 months!); was the father of Augustus Pace Mays, Corsicana judge. Richard Mays was  b. Florida March 1866; died Corsicana Jan. 1946 (His obituary is in Jan. 7 1946 Daily Sun).  At one time he owned "The Castle" built by Whitselle at So. 14th and West 6th where the Baptist church now stands.  He was also a scholar of Jose Antonio Navarro and published a book on him (a copy is at UT Austin and Harvard.
