John Allen Rogers was born on May 14, 1823 in Patsburg, Crenshaw Co., AL to Isaac & Elizabeth (Lyles)
Rogers. John died in Tupelo, Navarro Co., TX on February 26, 1901 and is buried in New Chatfield Cemetery, Navarro Co., TX. He is buried under a large old oak tree, left of the front gate, and has civil war iron
marker/granite marker inscribed with Job 19:25 (Masonic Marker.)
John enlisted as a Confederate Soldier on March 3, 1863 in Troy, AL and served in Company B, of the 57th AL Infantry, serving under
Captain Mayberry until the end of the Civil War. He enlisted on March 3, 1863 in Troy. He was stationed at Troy, Mobile, Pollard and Montgomery, AL. He fought at Resacca, Georgia, on Johnson's retreat through Georgia
and at several other places in the campaign afterwards. His son Wilborn C. remembered traveling with Polly Ann to visit the camp at Troy, AL.
John and some of the Stoughs came to Texas by wagon train, stopping first at Ennis in Ellis County. This group included John
William Stough. John lived in Navarro Co., TX where he was a farmer.
On September 23, 1845 when John Allen was 22, he married Mary "Polly" Ann Reeves, daughter of Asher Reeves& Civil
Kornegay in Barbour Co., AL. Mary "Polly" Ann was born on January 26, 1830 in GA and died in Chatfield, Navarro Co, TX on November 27, 1909, she was 79. Polly is also buried in New
Chatfield Cemetery, Navarro Co., TX. She received a Confederate Widow's Pension #11068
