Graveside services were held Saturday at Dresden Cemetery at 4 p.m. with the Rev. B. F. Risinger officiating.

She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Alicia Berry of Corsicana; sisters, Ragan and Bailey, both of Corsicana; grandparents, Kenneth and Molly Southard of Blooming Grove and Kay and Don Berry of Olney; great-grandparents, Evelyn Berry of Temple, Monette Baskerville of Vernon and Pauline Southard of Blooming Grove; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband, James D. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Corley Funeral Home for Alvin A. Berryhill, 68, resident of Corsicana, who died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. M. V. Pruett and the Rev. Frank Shirley will officiate, with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery.

He was a native of Navarro County and former operator and owner of Superior Ice Company in Corsicana and later employed by Navarro College until he was forced to retire due to ill health. He was also a member of the Wildwood Baptist Church in Mesquite. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lorene Poole Berryhill of Corsicana; a son, Kenneth A. Berryhill of Corsicana; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Houser of Mesquite; two granddaughters; a brother, Roy N. Berryhill of Waco; four sisters, Mrs. H.T. Williams, Mrs. L.W. Easley, and Mrs. V.R. Edwards, all of Corsicana and Mrs. Lurline Gandy of Houston.

Alice Lorene Berryhill, of Corsicana, died Monday at Navarro Memorial Hospital. Service is 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Corley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. B. F. Risinger officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Berryhill was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Oak Valley Progressive Club.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth A. Berryhill, of Corsicana; one daughter, Glenda Houser, of Mesquite; two granddaughters, Donna Houser and Jeanice Houser, both of Mesquite; and one sister, Wilma Jo Martin of Fort Worth.

Robert Bitter, 78, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Harold Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be J. B. Sloan, Walter Johnson, Bob Taylor, Rex Whiteside, Joe Sims, Norman Gilcrease and Joe Bob Tekell.

Mr. Bittner was born Aug. 30, 1922 to the late Albert E. and Amanda Fortner Bittner. He was reared in the Jester community and graduated from Corsicana High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II aboard PC 1168 and in the Pacific conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he owned and operated a grocery store in Corbet for 29 years and subsequently in Purdon for another 10 years. He retired in 1995 after managing the Corbet Water Supply for 10 years. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 174 and a member of First Baptist Church in Corsicana. He was a strong man and supportive husband and father who cherished his grandchildren. Mr. Bittner is survived by his wife of 54 years, Chlodine Hulsey Bittner; daughters, Terry Bittner Weller of Virginia Beach, Va. and Carol Rodgers and husband John of Fort Worth; son, Dan Robert Bittner of Houston; brother, Charles Bittner and wife Ruth Elaine of Houston; brothers-in-law and their wives, Hulen and Dorothy Hulsey of Corsicana and Dulen and Eloise Hulsey of Tyler; grandchildren, Jackson, Amanda and Corbet Weller, Susan and David Rodgers, Elizabeth and Rachel; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Black was born Sept. 25, 1914 in Jefferson County, Okla. to Samuel and Lula Furguson. She was a retired telephone company operator. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dovard Black; daughter, Bobbie Jo Black; and sister, Juanita Black.

Mrs. Black is survived by her brother, Samuel Lewis Furguson Jr. and wife Elaine of Overton; sister, Elizabeth Speed of Fairfield; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Blakeslee was born Aug. 13, 1948 in Corsicana to Norman Gilbert and Irene Reid Blakeslee. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Terry Triee March 5, 1983 in Dallas. He was employed by Wellmark International for 23 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Blakeslee.

Mr. Blakeslee is survived by his wife, Terry of Lewisville; his son, Jeffrey Glen Blakeslee of Lewisville; his daughters, Darla Marie Borchardt of Lewisville and Jovita Lynn Muse of Argyle; his father, Norman Blakeslee of Corsicana; brothers, Jimmy Blakeslee of Corsicana and Joe Blakeslee of Garland; and one grandchild.

His hobbies were riding his bicycle to places as far as Malakoff or Palestine, and playing his guitar whether it be on the porch of his home on South 15th Street, or other places with friends. Making music was his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; sister, Ella Lozana; and parents, Clara and Bill Blasingame.

Mr. Blasingame is survived by his sisters, Helen Beamon of Malakoff, Lola Dee Jock of Cross Roads, Mary Lou York of Kerens and Quinnie Stewart of Houston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Blount was born April 5, 1903 in Alabama and came to Texas in a covered wagon. She married Johnnie Gadye Blount Dec. 31, 1924 and had been a resident of Hubbard most of her life. Mrs. Blount was a homemaker and also owned and operated Blount's Variety Store with her husband for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hubbard.

She was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 16, 1978.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Anderson of Hubbard; sister, Ida DeLoach of Sudan; sister-in-law, Margie Crain of Waco; grandchildren, Mike and Carolyn Anderson of Elm Mott, Greg and Debbie Anderson of San Antonio and Jeanette and Jerry Smithey of Hubbard; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

GRAND PRAIRIE -- Ruth Holland Blue, 87, a retired schoolteacher, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at an area hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Grand Prairie. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove.

Ruth Holland Blue was born May 8, 1913 in Blooming Grove. She earned a master's degree from SMU. She was a member of the Bluebonnet Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and chaired the membership, American history and U.S.A. flag committees. Ruth authored a book, "Pioneers of the Extreme N.W. Corner of Navaro County."

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Blue.

Survivors: Godson, Clifford Arnett; and nephews and nieces, Lewis C. Holder, Nora McGaugh, Walter Bateman and Judy Schepis.

Grace Bobkoff, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep April 3, 2001 at Heritage Oaks West Nursing Home in Corsicana.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Hebrew Cemetery with Rabbi Shaina Bacharach officiating.

She was born Sept. 3, 1908 in Norwich, Conn.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Burney Bobkoff.

Bogle died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Ransom Canyon.

Albuquerque Bogle, 79, of Ransom Canyon died July 13 in Ransom Canyon.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Dawson with Rev. Kent Seuser officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Brad Bogle, Kevin McCarthy, James Cryer, and James Howell.

Mrs. Bogle was born January 1, 1918 in Dawson. She was a member of the Navarro County Historical Society and Foster Grandparent in Dawson and Lubbock for many years.

Scott Boss

Boss died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 27, 1954, in Dallas. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1973. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he was honorably discharged in 1978 as a sergeant. He attended Navarro County Junior College in Corsicana, where he received a private pilot's license. He moved to Houston in 1979, and he received a helicopter pilot's license. He married Jana Ghormley in 1979, in Houston.

He ferried Robinson R-22s from their manufacturer in California to owners throughout the Unites States. He received his aviation instructor's certifications, and he taught flying briefly. He flew for two tuna boat operations in the south Pacific Ocean, and he worked in private corporate aviation.

He started working for Rocky Mountain Helicopters in 1985. He worked with the University of Missouri at Columbia, and he was promoted to chief pilot. He started the CareLink joint-venture between Methodist Hospital and Lubbock General Hospital in Lubbock. In 1991, he worked as a relief pilot in the United States. He moved to Hebron, Conn., in 1993, and he flew for LifeStar Program at Hartford Hospital. He served on the Hebron Board of Education. The town of Hebron proclaimed Jan. 7, 1997 at Scott Boss Day. He received a general assembly citation from the Connecticut House of Representatives for outstanding service.

He helped with Little League, MADD and other organizations. He was the aviation chairman for the Special Olympics in New Haven, Conn., in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Tyler of Abilene; a daughter, Tessa of Abilene; his parents, Rip and Elizabeth Boss of Abilene; and three sisters, Cristi Berning of Round Rock, Nancee Chambers of Dallas and Julie LeBeau of Greenville, S.C.

Mrs. Bowen was born Sept. 17, 1920 in Dawson to J. Floyd and Dee Tanner Smith. She attended Dawson High School, Southwestern University and graduated from University of Texas. After graduation, she taught in Kerens and then moved to Houston where she met "Buster," her husband of 55 years, who preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women's Circle, Zeta Tau Alpha, River Oaks Garden Club and The Junior League of Houston.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by her sister, Betty Smith Bowen, and by her four children, Betsy Bowen Phillips and husband Bob, Royden Burwell Bowen III, Samuel F. Bowen and wife Martha, and James Russell Bowen and wife Anne. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Nick and Chris Phillips, Emily, Elizabeth and Sam Bowen Jr., Blake and Andrew Bowen; and her many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

He went to work for American National Insurance Company in 1980 in Gretna, La. He moved back to Tyler in 1982, and went to work for FD&S Insurance Company in 1987. He became vice president and partner in 1990. He achieved fellowcraft professional designation from the Life Underwriters training council. He was a former president of the Independent Agents Association of Tyler. He was a 32nd degree mason, a member of Sharon Shrine Temple, a charter member of Quail Unlimited, was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. He lived each and every day to the fullest and brought joy to everyone around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

She attended Mary Harden Baylor in Belton, Texas, and was a substance abuse councilor. She was a member of Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. She was a member of Al Anon and was a resident of Olney since 1946 after moving from Wichita Falls.

Survivors include a son, William Mayhew of Olney; three stepdaughters, Elizabeth Drummond, Judy Brooks and Kathleen Boyd; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Floyd E. Brewer, 84, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 at Ennis Regional Hospital.

Mr. Brewer was born Dec. 7, 1915 in Ennis to Henry and Melissa Puckett Brewer. He was raised in the Hopewell Community, where he attended school. After school he farmed until joining the Army. After his discharge, he returned home and continued farming. In 1957 he started operating the Humble/Esso Service Station. He retired in 1982 as operator of the Mobil station.

He was married to Kathlyn V. Swafford of Rice Sept. 13, 1941. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rice, where he served as a deacon since 1955.

Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, Kathlyn Brewer of Rice; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janice Brewer and Donald and Carolyn Brewer, all of Ennis; daughter, Kaynita Baker of Ennis; brother, Clifford Brewer of Eustace; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed volunteer work and did work for the new VA Clinic, Genealogy Society and the Humane Society. She was active in her church.

Survivors include a daughter, Gaye Breyman of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, Al Mullican of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Billie Seevers and Barbara Pendergrass, both of Hemet, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zola M. Britton, 74, who died Monday at Memorial Hospital will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. from the Missionary Baptist Church, of which she was a member.  The Rev. Brown was born in Corsicana on April 29, 1911 and was a lifelong resident. Miss brown graduated from Corsicana High School and Corsicana Business School. She was a member of the Kinsloe House, James Blair Chapter of D.A.R., a lifetime member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Charter member of the Genealogical Society, and the Pink Ladies' Auxiliary. Miss Brown started to work for Morris Evans at the age of 19, and worked for M. Evans Jewelers for 60 years.

She was preceded in death by brother-in-laws, Jim Bennett, W. J. Fondren; infant brother Turney Brown; parents Joe M. and Huldah Carroll Brown; brother, Marion and Lynette Brown; sister, Lois and Conner Dickson.

She is survived by sisters, Anna Bennett of Athens, Dortha Fondren of Corsicana; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.

She and her husband were in the grocery business in Frost for over 40 years. They moved to Hillsboro in 1987. Mrs. Brown was an avid bridge player and a member of First Baptist Church of Frost.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown Sr. on Jan. 27, 1988; and parents.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, Joe Brown Jr. and wife Joyce of Cedar Creek Lake; daughter, Suzan Sims and husband Jack of Hillsboro; sister, Sammy Lookingbill of Texarkana; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Oren Bruce Brown, 83, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 in Corsicana.

A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Deacon Lewis Palos officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Hayes, Eddie Jones, Tommy Lane, Gowan Murphy, Frank Tarr and Billy J. Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be John Maxwell, Fred Richards and John Richards.

Mr. Brown passed away at home, surrounded by his family. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army for seven years. He retired from Norgas in 1979 after many years of service.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Brown and Travis Brown; daughter, Scarlett Ann Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille Budai Brown of Corsicana; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Nelson of Flower Mound; brother, Woodrow Brown of Corsicana; sister, Lucille Wynne of Arkansas; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Jamie Nelson of Lewisville and Laurie and Michael Reibenstein of Lewisiville; great-granddaughters, Amanda Reibenstein and Cera Reibenstein, both of Lewisville; great-grandson, Samuel Sanchez of Lewisville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Fern Brown, 75, of Kerens passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000 at her residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Bazette Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating and the Rev. Kenneth Ramsey assisting. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bailey, Luster Ray Tramel, James Oral Warren, Cory Tramel, James Spivey and Homer Gene Wasson.

Mrs. Brown was born Oct. 14, 1925 in Kerens. She was a nurse and worked many years at Maywood Manor Nursing Home in Kerens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ora Tramel; son, Anthony Harold Brown; brother, Truett Tramel; and sisters, Nadine Dutton, Fayrene Spivey and Annie Mae Tramel.

FORT WORTH -- Bertha Lee Tillman Brown, 87, a housekeeper, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 12 p.m. Monday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 2712 South Freeway, Fort Worth. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Baker Funeral Home. Wake: 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Bertha Lee Tillman Brown was born July 7, 1912, in Kerens. She married Rev. William Lincoln Brown in 1953. Until his death in 1972, she served as First Lady of Macedonia Baptist Church and Zion Rest District for 19 years. She was a member of the Baptist Ministers Wives organization, and she was beloved and respected for her wisdom and counsel to young minister's wives.

She served as a church pianist and advisor for Mission Two.

Survivors: Daughters, Gladys Brown and Ruby P. Wade; sister, Mrs. Jeffie Gray; grandchild, Walter Brown; 10 nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Louisa Copeland of Kerens; special friend, Mae Jewel Barnes; and other family members and friends.

Denton Brown, 84, of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Kerens City Cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Crossville, Tenn. He was born and raised a mountain man of Tennessee and came to Texas in 1929. In 1944 he came to Corsicana and served proudly with the Corsicana Fire Department and in the Texas Army National Guard of Kerens. He later became a local business man and a Man of God whom he served faithfully until being called home.

He is survived by his wife of 61-and-a-half years, Martha Brown of Corsicana; daughter, Jo Ann Borden of Corsicana; grandson, Robert J. Borden of Corsicana; great grandson, Robert J. Borden Jr. of Corsicana; brother, Dempsey Brown of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters, Dealey Barber of Corsicana, Dorothy Duncan and Della Von Brunow of Houston and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was born March 21, 1937, in Frost and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1955. He married Linda Hunter on July 20, 1968, in Fort Worth. She died in October 1995. He had worked for Drug Emporium in Lubbock and in Wichita, Kan., and was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church.

John Warren Brown III, 74, of McPherson, Kan. and formerly of Blooming Grove, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at Infinis Health Center in McPherson, Kan.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove with the Rev. Tom Mayse officiating.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 20, 1925 in Burkburnett to Earl and Nadien (Fitzgerald) Brown. He was reared in Blooming Grove and graduated from Blooming Grove High School. He served the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He had been a resident of McPherson, Kan. since 1979 and was a retired pipeline construction worker for J&J Construction Co. in McPherson. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 2715, American Legion Post No. 24, both of McPherson, Kan., and Masonic Lodge in Blooming Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Brown is survived by his daughter, Jerry Baker of Tutwiler, Miss.; and granddaughters, Lavren and Caysi, both of Tutwiler, Miss.; companion, Helen Black of McPherson, Kan.; brother, Earl Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; and sister, Zelda Mayo of Raymondville.

Kathleen Mary Gallagher Bruner, 76, passed away Friday, March 9, 2001 at Alaska Native Medical Center.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Anchorage, Alaska.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Baptist Church in Corsicana.

Mrs. Bruner was born Dec. 28, 1924 in Beaumont. She moved to Wasilla in 1990, back to Corsicana in 1991, then to Anchorage, Alaska in September 2000. She attended Hermann Hospital School of Nursing in Houston and subsequently served in the U.S. Navy before working for various physicians.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Corsicana, and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Anchorage. Mrs. Bruner loved working in Vacation Bible School, arranging meals for those in need and visiting nursing homes in her area. She enjoyed football, gardening, her grandsons and cooking for her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Scott Brewer of Anchorage; sister, Marian Hill of Corsicana; grandsons, Chris and Sean Brewer of Anchorage; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene Francis Bruner was the youngest of five children born to John L. and Martha Bruner in Frost. Before coming to Fort Worth in 1937, he was a supply sergeant in the Civilian Conservation Camp. Eugene was a veteran of the Rainbow Division in World War II, and traveled all around the country. After retirement, he loved to travel with his wife and play golf with his friends. He also worked part-time at GDRA. Eugene was a member and usher for many years at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Pallbearers: Billy Capps, Phillip Henry, Dennis King, Jayson Owens, Chris Showmaker, Robert Slaughter.

Allen Estes Bryant, 89, of Roane, passed away Friday, March 23, 2001.

Allan Estes Bryant was born Nov. 2, 1911, to John J. and Bessie Bryant in Roane. The middle of five children, he attended Corsicana schools, graduating from Corsicana High School. He went on to study at Texas A&M University where he graduated in the Class of 1933. He joined his father's cottenseed business after school, and while traveling, met and fell in love with Josephine Dickinson, a nurse in Fort Smith, Ark. They married on Valentine's Day, 1940. When the U.S. entered World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as an intelligence officer in the South Pacific. Following the war, he returned to his home, wife and young daughter, JoAnn. He owned and operated the Rocking 3 Ranch near Roane and was for many years the rural postman for the area. His life was enriched by his love of gardening, genealogy and the works of Henry Thoreau. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Bryant of Corsicana; granddaughters, Lisa Jacobs of Dallas and Janet Jacobs of Austin; sisters Moree Frederick of Fort Worth and Katherine Davis of Booneville, Ark and numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana.

James "Jim" Bullington was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Handley. He was a member of Hurst Christian Church and a past and longtime scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts in Corsicana. The birth of his two grandchildren brought great delight and pleasure to his life. His loves were family, friends and lending a hand. He instilled exceptional values and good will to all of his family, as well as anyone else he encountered. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, family man and friend.

Stanley William Burden and his wife Jeanne Burden of Corsicana, both died Friday, June 1, 2001 in Glen Rose as the result of an automobile accident. He was 75.
Mr. Burden was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Dorset, England. He attended Kings College-London University and had a degree in physics. He was a retired vice- president of operations at Redifon Co.
Mrs. Burden was born Jan. 21, 1926 in Abilene. She attended Abilene High School and Abilene Christian College. She was a member of First Christian Church in Corsicana and an active member in Kinsloe House.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy R. Burden of Newport News, Va., and Henry S.H. Burden of Hurst; one daughter, Leigh Lamming of Somerset, England; one stepson, Jonathan W. Drew of White Settlement; three sisters, Edna, Helen and Frances; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 
She is survived by two sons, John “Sandy” Watson and wife Debbie, and Richard Watson and wife Shary, all of Corsicana; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mr. Burden are today (Thursday, June 7, 2001) at 11 a.m. in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Wiley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Corine Elkins Burks, 81, of Mexia passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Northcrest Church of Christ with Mr. Robin Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad Burks, Mike Dooley, Jared Jones, Randy Machacek, Paul Burks and Chet Seelinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Trent Dooley, Joshua Clark, Tyler Dooley, Matthew Dooley and Jeff Ferderer.

Mrs. Burks was born Aug. 19, 1919 in Henderson. She and her previous husband owned Central Texas Trucking Company in Corsicana during the 1960s and were active at Westside Church of Christ. She had lived in Mexia for the past 35 years and was a member of Northcrest Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley "Pok" Burks on Dec. 28, 1998.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Dooley of Temple; sons, John Burks of Mexia and Ron Burks of Houston; brothers, Billy Joe Young and Robert Young, both of Kaufman, Benton Young of Duncanville and Walter Young of DeSoto; sisters, Patti Sims of Kemp and Mary Francis Nalls of Kaufman; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

CORSICANA — Paul Edward “Bunt” Burnett Sr., 81, of Corsicana, a retired employee of Shell Oil Co. in Odessa, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas.

She was employed as a spinner at the Corsicana Cotton Mill for many years. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and sister.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elva Baird Dearman; and father, John Dearman.

Mrs. Butler was born Sept. 10, 1900, in Corsicana. She was a lifetime resident of Corsicana and a member of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. She was a loving caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose entire life was spent making the lives of all those surrounding her more beautiful and meaningful.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burleigh L. Butler; son, Bobby L. Butler and son-in-law Wayne Wilkins.

Morris Turner Caffy, 67, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, November 21, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 1999, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Caffy was born in Corsicana, Texas, December 17, 1931, to Turner and Beulah Caffy. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1948. He married Tommye Ruth McCormack August 12, 1950, in Tyler, Texas.

Mr. Caffy moved to Odessa in March 1951 and worked for Balie Griffith until 1970. He served in the Armed Forces from 1953 to 1955. After returning to Odessa he joined Crescent Park Baptist in June 1955. He and Tommye joined as charter members of the church, and he later became a deacon and served on various committees. In 1970, he opened Morris Caffy TV and Appliance, and through the years received numerous awards for his outstanding sales and service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Turner B. Caffy, and his mother, Beulah Caffy Moorehead, and one brother, James Caffy.

He is survived by his wife, Tommye Caffy of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Bruce Melton of Sherman, Texas; son and daughter-in-law David and Mellonie Caffy of Odessa; three grandchildren, Taylor and Katie Beth Melton of Sherman and Lisa Caffy of Odessa; and one sister, Aubrey Green of Corsicana.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Katherine M. Campbell, 86, died Thursday, November 4, 1999 in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, directed by Corley Funeral Home of Corsicana. Local arrangements were made by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Ms. Campbell was born in Navarro County and graduated from North Texas State University and the University of Texas in Austin. She taught at both Austin High and Reagan High schools in the Austin school district from 1947 until retiring in 1979. She moved to Abilene in 1997 from Austin. She was a member of the Austin chapter of the Retired Teachers Association and was a Baptist.

Survivors include three nephews and two nieces.

The body will be at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home until 9 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Grassland Cemetery under the direction of Justice-Mason Funeral Home.

She died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born Dec. 2, 1913, in Navarro County and attended school at Brushie Prairie. She married Odie Campbell on May 25, 1935, near Dawson. The lived in Van Zandt County before moving to Garza County in 1946. They lived in the Close City Community.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and was very active in the Grassland Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker.

A son, Clifton Don, died Nov. 7, 1949.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Pearl Riley of Post, Vivian Dillard of Adamsville, Ala., and Norma Wood of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Birta McClain of Waco and Avena Smith of Houston; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Martha A. Carrier passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Porter Loring North Chapel in San Antonio with the Rev. Phil Sitton and the Rev. Joe Carriere officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

She was born Oct. 1, 1920 in Corsicana to Barney Ivy Cook and Lila Harvard Cook, and was a longtime resident of Houston. She was a longtime member of the Mission Belles and in 1977 went to London on a singing tour and from there visited other parts of Europe. She was a member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church since 1962, where she was a choir member and a Sunday school teacher. She will be remembered for her loving nature, warmth and humor and greatly missed by those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Offord A. Carriere.

Survivors include her children, Offord A. Carriere Jr. of San Antonio and David T. Carriere of Seattle; husband, Bill Patrick; and brother, Jack B. Cook of Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton A. Cartlidge; parents, David and Augusta Bell Caughran; sisters, Edith Jarrett, Eula Bowman, Hazel Landis, Oliva Stuber and Nadine Blessman; and brothers, Orville, Herman and Raymond Caughran.

ALBANY - Mary A. Cauble, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Tunnell officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery under the direction of Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.

Ms. Cauble was born in Frost, and graduated from Albany High School. She was married to Warren M. Cauble, who preceded her in death. She worked in the District Clerk's office in Albany. She was a member of the Order of Easter Star, the Albany Study Club and a member of the Old Jail Art Center where she served as a Docent.

Survivors include a son, Ross Cauble of Albany; a brother, Truett Adams of Neddleton, Mississippi; two grandchildren, and two great- grand children.

Nena Ruth (Downey) Caudle

Services for Nena Downey Caudle, 85, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Cleve Haley, pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery under direction of Lemons Funeral Home.

She died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at University Medical Center.

She was born May 23, 1914, in Frost where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended college for two and a half years and moved to Dallas. She married Robert Caudle on June 8, 1940, in Dallas. They moved to Hale Center in 1940 and were in the ginning business. They moved to Halfway in 1942 and Plainview in 1952 where they had partnership in West Side Gin and later 400 Gin. In 1969 they moved to Dallas and then to Lubbock in 1982. She was a member of the Plainview Altrusa Club, Lubbock Christian Women's Club, and Oakwood Baptist Church. While a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview, she taught Sunday school and worked with the Sunbeams and the G. A.'s She served as president of the Women's Missionary Union for two years.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kay Ehle of Greeley, Colo., and Betty Horan of Plainview; a brother, John Downey of Halfway; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

CAVIN Daniel Eliza, 75 born November 22, 1925 to Ben Wheeler & Mary Cavin in Corsicana, Tx. passed away in Mesquite, Tx. Sunday, December 10, 2000. He was an active member of Oates Drive Baptist Church and the Men's Adult VII Sunday School Class in Mesquite. Retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 38 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of American. Mr. Cavin, an avid golfer, set several course records and was recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records for having the lowest recorded score of 25 on a nine hole course; thus dubbing him "Mr. 25". A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served his country in WWII and again in the Korean Conflict. To set a proper example for grandchildren, after retirement form SWBT and its extensive education, he returned to school and obtained his GED. Mrs. Cayce was born in Navarro County and was a retired bookkeeper for Woolworth Co., where she worked 20 years. She was a member of Suez Nomads, the bridge club and 4th and Stewart Street Church of Christ. She married Ben Cayce in 1972 in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband, of Granbury; two sons, Conway Crawford of Midland and Kenneth Cayce of Arlington; two daughters, Melba June McKandles and Marsha Kay Blanck, both of Midland; two brothers, Preston Vest of Smyer and R.C. Vest of Stanton; one sister, Wanda Morrow of Brownwood; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Rick Chavoya, 48, of Ennis passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000 at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Chavoya was born April 7, 1952 in Corsicana to Henry and Beatrice Gonzales Chavoya. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1970. He received an associate in science degree from Navarro College and a bachelor of fine arts degree from North Texas State University. He married Amy Garrard of Ennis on Oct. 24, 1981. They lived in Dallas until 1983, when they moved to Ennis.

Mr. Chavoya was a beloved husband, devoted father and loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He shared his talents as a drummer with the St. John Church Life Teen Band and several area rock and country bands. For over 35 years, he was the drummer for The Others, a local "60s rock and roll band. His performances will be remembered by many fans and friends.

His leadership ability was shared with St. John Cub Scout Pack 203, where he served as den leader and cub master. He was a talented and well-respected graphic designer associated for many years with the CPS Group in Dallas, and most recently with Sixty Foot Spider Web site design firm.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Chavoya Sr.; and son, Aaron Taylor Chavoya.

Clarence "Cary" Chesser

Clarence "Cary" Chesser, 70, of Temple passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 in a Temple hospital.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Dawson Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the graveside services.

Mr. Chesser was born June 28, 1930 in Athens. He had been a resident of Temple since 1989 and had formerly lived in Lacy-Lakeview. On Oct. 25, 1952 he married Sylvia Gill in the Anglican Church of St. Peters in Broadstairs, Kent, England. He was a retired aircraft mechanic for the United States Air Force. He was a master sergeant and served in Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Chesser is survived by his wife, Sylvia Chesser of Temple; daughter, Patricia Lin Chesser of Dallas; sons, Gary S. Chesser of Waco and Major Michael S. Chesser, M.D. of USAF; five grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

Services for Bill W. Chewning, 77, of Kemp, were Monday, May 14, at Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Bob Steeger officiating.

Interment followed at Tool Cemetery in Henderson County.

Mr. Chewning died May 11, 2001, in Dallas.

He was born Billy Willadean Chewning, Oct. 3, 1923, in Corsicana, to Robert Walter and Sara Eugenia (Fuller) Chewning. Mr. Chewning served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of VFW Post 4376 of Seven Points. He married Mary Evelyn Wood on Jan. 23, 1948. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1991. Mr. Chewning's parents, brothers, Wesley Kelton Chewning and Archie Oxford Chewning and sisters, Jessie Faye Chewning, Gladys Mary Chewning, Arline Audrey Chewning, Thelma Chewning, Ruby Dell Chewning, and Lillian Pansy Chewning also preceded him.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and Carl Armstrong of Kemp, Leah and Ronnie Barton of Mabank; son, Billy W. Chewning of Kemp; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jack and Kathy Chewning of Kemp; 11, grandchildren; eight, great-grandchildren; brother, Marion D. Chewning of Mabank; sisters, Hazel Crosby of Irving and Janie Arwine of Dallas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Robert Jack Chewning, Carl Wayne Armstrong, Jr., Josh Payan, Leonard Payan, Matt Payan, and Steven Guth.

Margie Sally Clampitt, 97, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 in Corsicana.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery with Richard Clay and Royce Wesley officiating.

Mrs. Clampitt was born Sept. 9, 1903 in Navarro County. She was a Christian who loved to attend church, and sing and listen to Christian music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David W. Clark.

John Ephraim Clark Jr.

SAN ANTONIO — John E. Clark Jr., born Dec. 15, 1932, passed away April 21, 1999, in San Antonio at the age of 66. Mr. Clark retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was a savings and loan executive.

Born in Crane County, Mr. Clark was renowned for his humorous anecdotes ranging from experiences growing up on a West Texas ranch to serving as a pilot in the USAF. He led his business units through the 1980s savings and loan crisis with enthusiasm, dignity and humor.

Mr. Clark was a proud and loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John E. (III) and Patricia K. Clark of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy L. and William B. Adams of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Marisa Adams, Ian Clark, Elliott Clark and Sean Adams; sister, Jane Lea of Midland; brother and sister-in-law, William F. and Norma Jo Clark of Odessa; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darrell and Dorothy Curry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Wanda L. Clark (nee Curry).

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Northwood Presbyterian Church in San Antonio followed by interment at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, at Younger Cemetery in Corsicana.

Minnie Pearl Clark, 76, of Las Vegas passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Von Lombard officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Clark was born July 23, 1925 in Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. G. and Dora Parker Rogers.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband, Ray Calvin Clark of Las Vegas; daughter, Carol Eldfrick of Las Vegas; sister, Edna Mershawn of Dallas; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Lou Rogers of Corsicana and Willie Mae Rogers of Dallas; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Monte and Melinda Eldrick of Coppell; three great-grandsons, Jacob, Jonah and Josiah Eldfrick, all of Coppell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
