Her success was documented by employment as an assistant to Corsicana optometrist Dr. Joe B. Williams.

In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Rawson moved to Haltom City-Richland Hills. In 1980, they moved to Lake Palestine near Frankston. In 1991, several years after the death of her husband, Mrs. Rawson moved to Phoenix to be with her daughter's family.

Elmus Hall II

Buffalo (NY) News, June 29, 1997

Elmus Hall II, a community activist and advocate for the handicapped, died Wednesday (June 25, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Hospital. He was 78. The native of Corsicana, Texas, and his wife, the former Inez Graves, moved to Buffalo to work in the war effort during World War II. For more than 30 years, Elmus worked for the Blaw-Knox Co. and was an officer in the Machinists Union, helping to negotiate contracts that improved working conditions and resulted in health-care and retirement benefits for both skilled and unskilled workers in the steel industry.

Hall retired in 1976 when his eyesight began to fail. Hall also owned and operated an independent taxi in association with the Broadway Cab Co., until both legs were amputated.

He completed a rehabilitation program for the handicapped and, until 1995, worked with the Blind Association of Western New York, assuming the role of advocate for the handicapped and assisting efforts to unionize disabled workers.

A neighborhood activist, Hall helped establish the Crime Watch program and helped organize Buffalo's participation in the National Night Out program. He served as an officer in the Neighborhood Block Club Association and the Triad Board, as well as a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Masten Park Facility.

Hall, who was a familiar figure negotiating the city's streets on his motorized "scooter," was honored with awards and certificates of recognition for his service to the community.

He was also a familiar figure to elected officials, airing his concerns to the Common Council, the Erie County Legislature, State Legislature and even Congress.

"He believed that you should participate in the political process and that each person had a responsibility to look after themselves and the ones around them," said his daughter, Barbara.

"His disabilities, which would have crippled most people, didn't slow him down at all," she added. "In fact, it made him more compassionate for others, and intensified his drive to participate."

In addition to his wife of 55 years and daughter, survivors include two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in Greater Friendship Baptist Church, in the E.D. McNeeley Educational Building, Hawkins Memorial Chapel, 402 Clinton St.

Vaudine (King) Bradbury
Sep 17, 1910 - Nov 12, 2001

Vaudine King Bradbury

Vaudine King Bradbury, who taught in Baytown's Goose Creek school district for 34 years, died Nov. 12 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 91. Born on Sept. 17, 1910, in Corsicana, she moved to Baytown when she was a teen-ager. She was married for 59 years to Walter A. Bradbury, who died in 1994.

He was a graduate of Rice University who had a long career as an engineer at Exxon Mobil.

Vaudine Bradbury began teaching in 1940. She taught in high school for a few years but spent most of her career teaching third-graders. Most of that time was spent at Ashbel Smith Elementary, from where she retired in 1974.

"Many of her students, now in their 50s and 60s, attended the visitation and service," said her son, Paul J. Bradbury, a psychologist from Bryan. "At times, she had taught three generations of the same family. She always seemed to have a positive impact on children - very accepting."

Bradbury graduated from the Goose Creek district in 1928 and earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1931. She received her master's degree in education from the University of Houston in 1957.

She sponsored two presidential endowed scholarships at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton and one endowed scholarship at Baylor University in Waco. Bradbury attended Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown for 74 years and taught Sunday school most of those years until she became ill last summer. "For her age, she was very healthy and sharp. She only quit driving two years ago," her son said.

Her only other hobby was sewing, her family said. She also is survived by another son, W. Wayne Bradbury of Friendswood, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held Thursday.
