Jessie Lucille (Standard) O'Neal 
Mar 11, 1918 - May 24, 2002

Jessie Standard O'Neal, 84, of Lampasas passed away Friday, May 24, 2002 in Lampasas.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. of First Baptist Church in Corsicana officiating. Interment will follow at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse.

Mrs. O'Neal was born March 11, 1918, the sixth of eight children of W.W. and Janie Lucile Standard. A graduate of Lampasas High School, she was a cheerleader and editor of the school newspaper. After attending business school, she worked for Texas Power and Light Company and Lampasas Leader.

Following a whirlwind courtship, she married W. C. "Bud" O'Neal of Corsicana April 9, 1940. He owned a farm retail store in Corsicana, where they made their home. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary before his demise in 1991.

Mrs. O'Neal is survived by her brother, Ted Kay Standard of Munford, Tenn.; children and their spouses, Bill and Karon O'Neal of Carthage, Judy and John Smith of Lampasas, and Mike and Jerilynn O'Neal of Carrollton; grandchildren, Chris Smith of Houston, Molly Smith of Friendswood, Lynn O'Neal Martinez of Grand Prairie, Dr. Shellie O'Neal of Corsicana, Berri O'Neal of Dallas, Causby O'Neal Henderson of Greenville, Ross O'Neal of College Station and Ryan O'Neal of Carrollton; great-granddaughter, Chloe Martinez of Grand Prairie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lula (Johnson) Hawkins
Nov 24, 1910 - May 23, 2002

Lula Hawkins, 91, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, May 23, 2002 in a local nursing home.

Memorial services will 2 p.m. Saturday at North Beaton Church of Christ.

Mrs. Hawkins was born Nov. 24, 1910 on a farm near Mart to Jesse and Willie Montgomery Johnson. She married Thomas Hawkins in December 1939.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom in 1984. She was a member of North Beaton Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughters, Jean Caldcleugh of San Antonio and Linda Nixon of Houston; sister, Jessey Willis of Dallas; grandchildren, Lisa Cannon, Ashley Hawkins, Chandler Prude, Price Prude, Tequila Nixon and Austin Nixon; great-grandchildren, Joshua Appling, Kenley Hawkins and Aspen Hawkins; and great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Appling.

Memorials may be made to North Beaton Church of Christ Building Fund.

Sofronie Belle (Braddock) Warren

Funeral Held Saturday for Mrs. Tom Warren

Funeral services for Mrs. Tom (Sofronia Belle) Warren were held Saturday afternoon, February 23, 1935, at 3:00 at the Bazette Church of Christ.  C. Clay Rawline, Minister of the Lancaster Church of Christ, was in charge assisted by Bro. Thomas of Corsicana.

Mrs. Warren died Friday night at 9:00 in the Navarro Clinic at the age of 52 years.

She had been in ill health since last August.  The deceased had lived in the Buffalo

Community for the past 21 years and was loved by all who knew her.  Her chosen faith was the Church of Christ of which church she was a conscientious worker.

Survivors are her husband, Tom,7 sons;  Sloan, Oral, Calvin (Mack), Walter (Walt), Theodore (Bill), Jim (Square) of Kerens and Henry (Pug) of Texarkana,  3 daughters; Mrs. O. K. (Minnie Belle) Gossett, Houston, Annis and Mary Warren of Kerens;  her mother, Mrs. Sarah Jane Braddock, 3 brothers;  Thomas McCullough Braddock & Stephen Franklin Braddock of Kerens and Grover Cleveland Braddock of Rice.

Interment was made in the Prairie Point Cemetery at Bazette.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the P. N. Stockton Funeral Home in Kerens.

  • Fronie was born in MS, June 6, 1882 to Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Jane Rutherford Braddock.  She died February 22, 1935 in Navarro Co. TX.

Mary Eunice (Tramel) Warren

Mrs. Mack Warren Passes Away In Houston

Funeral services for Mrs. Mack (Mary Eunice) Warren were held Tuesday afternoon, June 6, 1949, at 3:30 from the First Methodist Church in Kerens, with the pastor, Rev. Carroll Thompson, conducting the rites.  Mrs. Warren died Monday night, June 5, 1949, at 10:00 o’clock in the Jeff Davis Hospital in Houston.  She had been in ill health for some 14 months.

Mrs. Warren was born in Kerens, March 8, 1909, to Charlie Harrison and Mary Eunice Albritton Tramel and lived near and in Kerens her entire life until a few years ago when the family moved to Houston.

She was a member of the local Methodist Church. 

Surviving are her husband, Mack: 4 daughters, Mrs Martha Ann (Paul) McCoy, Bowmansville, PA:  Mrs. Durwood (Billie Ruth) Walker, Corsicana: and Marilyn and Gloria Lee Warren of Houston: 1 son, Jack Warren, Houston:  father, Charlie Tramel of Levelland and grandfather, W. G. Tramel, Kerens.

Pallbears were Jerrell Simmons, Harlan McQuary, Gene Braddock, Elmo Tramel, Truett Tramel and Junior Tramel.

Interment was made in the Prairie Point Cemetery at Bazette.  Stockton Funeral Home directed.

Andrew Jefferson Deskin  
Aug 23, 1877 - Dec 2, 1950

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm from Bazette Baptist Church for A. J. Deskin, aged 73 who died Saturday Morning, December 2, 1950.

The rites were conducted by Rev R. J.  Fletcher of Corsicana and Rev Bernard McCord of  Fort Worth.

Deskin was a native of Rusk County, but had resided in the Bazette community for 65 years.  He had been engaged in oil leases and farming.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lena Mae (Winters) Deskin of Bazette;  one son, John Deskin of Dallas; 6 daughters, Mrs. Guy (Eunice) Lancaster, Kerens; Mrs. M. H. (Eva) Faughn, Beaumont; Mrs. Jack (Lucille) Albritton, Kerens; Miss Amy Deskin, Kerens; Mrs. W. B. (Hazel) Stringer, Houston, and Mrs. W. H. (Ruby) Fair, Hobbs, NM; 2 sisters, Mrs. W. J. (Bedia) Tramel, Kerens and Mrs. Mitch (Odie) Barnett, Dallas; a brother, W. R. (Red) Deskin of Corsicana;  20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Interment was made in the Prairie Point Cemetery at Bazette.

Rev. Lee David McNeal
b. May 1, 1928

Services for the Rev. Lee David McNeal, 73, of Emhouse, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Tennessee Colony with the Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Jimmison Quarter Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Rev. McNeal died Sunday at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana.
He was born May 1, 1928 in Tift County, Georgia to Henry and Ruthie Williams McNeal.

Rev. McNeal received his education in Miami, Fla. at Booker T. Washington High School. He was a member and ordained deacon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He became an ordained minister on July 10, 1964 at Greater Mission Baptist Church. He served as chairman of Zion Hill Association. He was a choral group singer in Miami and a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church Choir. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Miami.

He retired from Precision Hardware in Detroit as a foreman in 1992.
Rev. McNeal was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters; a son, Glen McNeal; and a daughter, Loutricia McNeal.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; Precious Smith McNeal of Emhouse; daughters, Shelia, Shirley and Deborah McNeal; sister, Lillie Mae Brooks of Savannah, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elijah  Tramel

Funeral Tuesday For Pioneer Of  Bazette Sector

Funeral services were held at Bazette Tuesday for Elijah Tramel, pioneer resident of this community, who was born in DeKalb Co. TN at Smithville, November 24, 1860.

In December, 1882, he was married to Miss Thenia Davis.  To this union was born 13 children, 10 surviving, as well as 38 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The 7 boys are:  W. J. Tramel, S. V.Tramel, Tom Tramel, Robert Tramel, Pross Tramel, and Lester Tramel, all of Kerens, and John Tramel Of Powell: 3 daughters, Mrs. Tennessee Pike, Mrs. May Taylor, and Mrs. Delia Albritton, of Kerens.

Mr. Tramel came to Texas fifty years ago last March.  He has lived in the Bazette community for the past 41 years.  He became a Christian at the age of 13 years and lived a faithful Christian life until death called him home.

He has 4 brothers who survive him:  W. G. Tramel of Bazette, Jim Tramel of Tyler, Jack Tramel of Fort Worth, and Wink Tramel of Smithville, TN: 2 sisters, Mrs. Cora Carter of Arizona, and Mrs. Jerry (Tennie) Smith of Corsicana and a host of relatives and friends

Pallbearers at the service were Clarence Taylor, Robert Tramel, Ray Tramel, Robert E. Pike, Vernon Tramel & Truitt Tramel.

Rev. Heizer of Bazette and Rev. Barham of Dallas conducted the funeral service.

Gary Eugene Hickey

Gary Eugene Hickey, 52, of Flint passed away Friday, May 24, 2002 at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.

Services are pending with Hilliard Funeral Home in Van. Bro. Terry Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Mr. Hickey was born Dec. 2, 1949 in Big Spring. He was a 1968 graduate of Corsicana High School, a 1970 graduate of Navarro College and a member of the Church of Christ. He worked for Brookshire's for 26 years, serving as store director in Wills Point for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Victor Hickey.

Mr. Hickey is survived by wife Jane Hickey of Flint; son Jeffrey Hickey and daughter Gena Hickey, both of Flint; nephew Mark Hickey; and grandchildren Cory and Kinsey Hickey of Flint.

KATZ
SOL, 88 retired news executive with the Dallas Morning News, died Thursday, May 9, 2002.  Born in Corsicana, TX October 18, 1913, Mr. Katz moved to Dallas with his family in 1921.  He was a graduate of Forest Avenue High School.  Mr. Katz spent his entire working career with The Dallas Morning News; in 1960 he was elected to the Beloboard of directors and was named senior vice president of "The News" in 1975.  He retired from the paper in 1977 and the board of directors in 1980.  Mr. Kaz is preceded in deathby his wife Nell Carter Katz in 1999.  He is survived by daughter, Barbara Harris and her husband Sigmund of Dallas; son, Dr. Sam Katz and wife Susan of Chicago; brother, Abe Katz and wife Roslyn of Dallas; four grandchildren, Karyn Heine and husband Bill, Craig Harris and wife Ashley, all of Dallas; Jennifer Katz and Matthew Katz, both of Chicago; two great grandchildren, Kaely Heine and Jackson Harris both of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 12, 2002 in Parkman/Hillcrest funeral home chapel.  Rabbi Gerald J. Klein will officiate Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

RENNELS
RUTH, 78, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002, in Corpus Christi, Texas.  She was born February 11, 1924, in Corsicana, Texas to Henry and Charlotte England. After retiring from Sun Oil, she moved from Dallas to Rockport.  She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker.  Mrs. Rennels is survived by her husband, Clark Rennels of Rockport; her daughter, Ruth Ann (Carlos) Hendrick of Paris, France; three brothers, Henry C. England, Jr. of Dallas, Joe R. Cole of Brenham, and Gayle Whiddon of Houston; one sister, Milly Ann Schaer of Chapell Hill, Texas; two grandchildren, John and Charlotte Ann Hendrick; four great-grandsons, Justin, Cash, Corey and Mathew Hendrick, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Rockport Cemetery, Rockport, Texas with Father Reese Friedman officiating.  Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219-3993.  Arrangements entrusted to: Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. CORSICANA, TX.- Mr. Ernest Fletes, 89, of Marlin, TX. passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. Mr. Fletes was born in Mobile, Alabama. He was a civil engineer. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Almita Fletes and Olympia Jaurequi; sons, Daniel Fletes and Joe Alfred Fletes; first wife, Juanita Morales Fletes and his second wife, Gloria Botello Fletes.

John Leslie Read, 69, entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 26, 2002.

Services were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Rhoton Funeral Home in Carrollton with interment to follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana.

Mr. Read was born Aug. 25, 1932 in Corsicana to Louis E. Read and Lillie Hickey Read. He retired from Haliburton in 1991 after 34 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis E. Read.

Survivors include his mother, Lillie of Groesbeck; daughter, Sharon Wall of Plano; son, Terry Louis Read and wife Teri Lynn Read; grandchildren, Alyson Renfrow, Dustin Wall, Steven Read and Mallory Read; great-grandchild, Joshua Tyler Renfrow; sisters, Barbara Read of Oletha and Betty Read Herndon and husband Hugh Herndon of Richardson; and several nieces.

Carro Daviss Kelton, 97, of Dallas passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 in Dallas.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Finley officiating.

Mrs. Kelton was born Aug. 9, 1904 in Fairfield. She lived 80 years in Corsicana and the last 12 in Dallas. Her husband of 40 years was Dr. Leslie Kelton, a physician in Corsicana for more than 50 years. Mrs. Kelton attended and graduated from Corsicana High School and Ward-Belmont College and attended Southern Methodist University.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Leslie Kelton Jr.; and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Carrolyn Kelton Rice and Elizabeth Kelton Stafford, both of Dallas; and Claire Coble and husband Neely of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Leslie E. Kelton III and wife Cynthia of Dallas; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Nell Nichols, 73, of Lovington, N.M. passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith-Rogers Chapel in Lovington with Dale Rhodes, Church of Christ Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Lovington Cemetery.

Mrs. Nichols was born Dec. 4, 1928 in Kerens. She married Neal W. Nichols Aug. 26, 1947 in Corsicana. She was a school teacher in Lovington for 28 years, retiring last year at the age of 73. She and her family moved to Lovington from Seminole, Texas in 1961.

She was preceded in death by husband Neal Nichols, her parents, son William Ken Nichols and five brothers.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by son Brad Nichols and wife Lee of Wichita, Kan.; daughter Patricia Cogsdil and husband James of Utah; brothers Percy Brown of Fort Worth and Wayne Brown of Tyler; sister Noble Kendrick of Ardmore, Okla.; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Maudie Lee (Stamper) Parsons

Maudie Lee Parsons, 91, of Corsicana went to her heavenly home Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Dingman, Jeffery Parsons, Jimmy Parsons, Charles Parsons, Jerry Pugh and Daniel Johnson.

Mrs. Parsons was born May 17, 1911 in Van Zandt County. She always had a smile and a handshake for everyone. She loved her God, Bible, family and flowers. She was a good wife, wonderful mother and the best mother-in-law anyone could ever hope for. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Parsons; sons, Robert C. Parsons and Kenneth Ray Parsons; and grandson, Randy Hunnicutt.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Earnest Daniel and Margie Parsons of Silver City; daughters-in-law, Margarett Parsons of Corsicana and Wanda Parsons of Bailey; granddaughter, Beverly Bell of Kerens; grandsons, Jimmy Parsons of Mexia, William Parsons of Bryan, and Bryan Parsons and Jeffery Parsons, both of Bailey; 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Wayne Pugh of Seagoville and Clyde Gibson of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John R. Snyder
May 10, 1936 - May 28, 2002

John R. Snyder, 66, of Junction City, Ore. passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 in Springfield, Ore.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline, Ill. Interment will follow at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

Mr. Snyder was born May 10, 1936 in Moline, the son of Lloyd and Ruth Clayton Snyder. He was in the Army for three years and then worked for the former Means Laundry in Moline, and John Deere Parts as a fork lift operator. He then entered the Navy for four years. When he returned, he worked 13 more years for John Deere. He retired from McDonald Douglas Aircraft in California as a drill press operator in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Edward Snyder and sister Juanita Dideriksen.

Mr. Snyder is survived by wife June Snyder of Oregon; daughters Kathy Moulten of South Carolina and Sheri Frost of Indiana; son Scott Snyder of California; four grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Pierson of Thayer, Ind., Mary Paxton of Moline, Ill., Inez Gochee of Geneseo, Ill. and Barbara Smith of Colona, Ill.; brothers Edwin Snyder of Scotsdale, Ariz. and Wallace Snyder of Henderson, Nev.; and lots of nephews and nieces.
