Samuel Verse French

French Rites
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Italy for S. V. French who was killed late Tuesday afternoon in an automobile accident. The Rev. William R. Chase will officiate and interment will be in Frost Tex.
A retired farmer, he was born in Navarro Mills Nov 26, 1895 and had lived in Italy since 1932. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Italy.
Survivors include three sons, Darwood of Bryan, James Lee of Tyler and Darrell of Duncanville; six daughters, Mrs. P. J. Siler of Long Beach Calif., Mrs. B. M. White of Dallas, Mrs. Malcolm Hart of Waco, Mrs. Ben Killebrew of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Jack Winningham of Waxahachie and Mrs. H. L. Southard of Avalon; three brothers, Redney of Navarro Mills and Rankin and Cecil French of Corsicana; three sisters, Miss Florence French of Corsicana, Mrs. George Putnam of Navarro Mills and Mrs. Leo Hubbard of Dawson.

Katherine Brown

Katherine Brown, 98, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 in Corsicana.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Corley Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Young officiating. Internment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 18, 1904 in Corsicana and lived most of her life in Kilgore where she worked as a secretary to Jenkins and Ligett. she was an active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore, an accomplished pianist and past president of the Womens Literary Club. After moving back to Corsicana, she became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Ms. Brown was preceded in death by sister Eloise Barton and mother Clara Jenkins.

Survivors include two brothers Mr. Carbel Neal Jenkins of Lucas and James C. Jenkins of Pasadena and three nieces Mary Katherine Stroube of Houston, Carla Miller of Lucas and Jean Risigner of Pasadena.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers.

Frankie Jean Abney

Frankie Jean Abney, 65, of Midland passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

She was born Oct. 21, 1937 in Corsicana to Frank and Anna Bell Clampitt. After graduation she attended Baylor University. She married Charles Abney May 3, 1993 in Farmington, N.M.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Abney of Midland; daughters, Debbie Welke and husband Mike of Hyde Park, N.Y., Cynthia Shryock and husband Mike of Aztec, N.M., Lisa Dawson of Sunnyvale, Calif. and Carolyn Guiterrez and husband Al of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, David Powers, Sean, Jennifer, Ryan, Rayannon, Amanda, Kenyon and Karla; four great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Clampitt; and sister, Betty Anderson.

Launa (Murphy) Wilson
Feb 16, 1904 - Dec 4, 2002

Launa Murphy Wilson, 98, a former resident of Hubbard and Munger, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Dallas after a brief illness.

Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. Jerry Irvin officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday before the funeral services.

Mrs. Wilson was born Feb. 16, 1904, near Dawson. As a young child she played the piano and organ for church services at Liberty Hill. Because of her continued interest in music, she served as organist and pianist for the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard for many years where she was a member of the WSCS and Berean Sunday School Class. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed participating in the Quilters for Christ group that made beautiful quilts for the annual Lord's Acre held at the Methodist church.

She attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton and East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce. She then taught elementary school in the Dawson-Hubbard-Munger area. Her last and most favorite teaching assignment was in Santa Anna. She married Joe Wilson of the Munger community in 1929.

Mrs. Wilson was the last surviving member of the William Carson and Lily Terry Murphy family and was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, six sisters and by her husband of 53 years, Joe Walker Wilson in 1983.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Joe Starnes of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Joe Terry and Dorothy Wilson of De Soto; son, Frank Wilson of Houston; grandchildren, Kevin and Margaret Starnes of Plano, Cheryl and Ed Pearce of Dallas, Debbie Wilson of De Soto and Linda Wilson of Dallas; five great-grandchildren, Jeff and Stephanie Starnes of Plano and Lauren, Allison and Kaitlyn Pearce of Dallas; sister-in-law Ruth Wilson of Dallas and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard or the Lord's Acre Fund of the church.

Julian H. McKinney, 94, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Internment will follow at at Woodland Cemetery.

Mr. McKinney was born on April 25, 1908, in Corsicana and was an active church member. He attended G.W. Jackson High School and Prairie View A&M University and was a carpenter for many years in Navarro County.

He is survived by one sister, Alyce Bell Jones of Corsicana.

Services for Elbert E. Richards, 87, of Palestine, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Carl Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Richards died Saturday morning at Palestine Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1913, in Corsicana to Robert Lee Richards and Hattie Alva Coker Richards.

Mr. Richards was a Methodist. He was retired from the oil field as a switcher. He was owner-operator of a service station and auto air conditioner repair shop for many years after his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Perlia Pauline Richards.

Mr. Richards is survived by daughter Carolyn Greenwood of Del Valle; sons Bud Richards and Jerry Richards, both of Palestine, and Larry Richards of Elkhart; sisters Alva Baker and Vi Bruce, both of Mabank; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruby A. Vaughn

Services for Ruby A. Vaughn, 85, of Corsicana, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery under the direction of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vaughn died Monday at Navarro Regional Hospital.

She was born May 23, 1914, in Tennessee Colony.

Mrs. Vaughn was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie W. Vaughn of Corsicana; sons, Johnnie L. Vaughn, Don Vaughn and Jack Vaughn, all of Corsicana and David Vaughn of Fairfield; daughter, Paula Marrs of Corsicana; brother, Ed Missildine of Palestine; sister, Willie Mae Humphrey of Corsicana; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Yates Manahan

Services for Yates Manahan, 17, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church of Fairfield with the Revs. Bill Shaw, John Saculla and Bill Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Manahan’s Family Cemetery in Freestone County under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.

Mr. Manahan died Sunday in an auto accident in Huntsville.

He was born Dec. 17, 1982, in Corsicana, to Cam and Deb Manahan of Fairfield.  He was a junior at Fairfield High School. He was a Methodist.

Mr. Manahan qualified in state bull riding two years in the Texas High School Rodeo Association, qualified in doggin one year in the Texas High School Rodeo Association, qualified for the national finals in 1999 in bull riding, and was champion district poll vault in 1999.

He is survived by his parents; brothers, Justin Manahan and Garrett Manahan of Fairfield; grandparents, Dolly Manahan of Fairfield and Oliver and Shirley Swinburn of Teague; and great-grandmother, Lois Lancaster of Dew.

Pallbearers will be Michael Wren, Dan Brown, Richard Callendar, Clark Fryer, Derek Mitchell, Chance Armstrong, Clay Emmons and Cody Mizell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Davis, Will Barnes, Lynn Bottoms, Bob Champion, Ray Lancaster and Rusty Davis.

Avis Ann (Eisen) Armstrong

Services for Avis Ann Eisen-Armstrong, 34, of Fairfield were at 3 p.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield. Burial followed at St. Elmo Cemetery in Winkler.

Ms. Armstrong died Saturday at a Corsicana hospital.

She was born Nov. 19, 1965, in Tomball. She was a homemaker.

Ms. Armstrong is survived by life mate, Charles Armstrong and his daughter, Donna Zwierzchowski, of Fairfield; mother, Avis Eisen of Fairfield; and sisters, Paula Snider and Cindy Eisen, both of Fairfield, and Laura Eisen of Kansas City, Mo.

Pallbearers were Amile Snider, Lindale Grandbury, Ricky Grandbury, James Armstrong, Delbert Armstrong and Leonard Zwierzchowski.

Mr. Woodard died Tuesday at Memorial Mother Frances Hospital in Palestine.
He was born July 8, 1917, in Corsicana, to Arthur and Nora Wilson Woodward.
Mr. Woodard was self-employed for Shamrock and was retired from Homer White's Gulf Station . He also worked as a forman for the Strouby Horse Ranch in Corsicana and was a member of Memorial Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willie Mae Woodard of Palestine: Daughters, Peggy Rhone of Overton and Norene Watson of Palestine; Son, James L. Collins of San Antonio; Sister, Evelyn Sasser of Forth Worth; Five grandchildren; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-great-children......

Bobby Gene Coker, 68, of Houston began his journey with his Lord Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home with Dr. Gary W. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Long Prairie Cemetery near Kerens.

Pallbearers will be David Coker, Jeff Coker, Jim Coker, Gary Paul, Adron Paul and Marvin Paul.

Mr. Coker was born July 3, 1934 in Eureka. In 1953 he moved to Houston and began his 44 years of employment with Cameron Iron Works, retiring in 1996. He was a devoted and generous family man that will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Annie Coker; brothers, Winston Coker and O. E. Coker; and sister-in-law, Patsy Coker.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ethelene (Paul) Coker; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby D. "Donny" and Amy and Larry Gene and Teri, all of Houston, Roger Dale and Jan of Granbury; sisters, Lois McCary of Houston, Betty Sanches and Genevie Paul, both of Corsicana, and Lillie Laney of Athens; brothers, Floyd Coker of Houston, Clinton "Jelly" Coker of Richland and Jimmy D. Joe D. York, 73, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Alexander officiating.

Mr. York was born Dec. 17, 1928 in Wellington to R. E. and Agnes Summy York. The family moved to Corsicana from Waco when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1945.

He attended the University of North Texas and graduated with a B.B.A. degree. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and attended officer candidate school at Lackland Air Force Base, graduating as a second lieutenant in December 1949. He spent 24 years in the U.S. Air Force both on active duty and as a reserve officer. He logged over 9,000 flying hours and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. York returned to Corsicana in 1960 where he followed his father into the family business, Joe York Furniture Company. He owned and operated the store until 1991 when he retired and closed the store.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Alan York in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Lewis York; son, Stephen Lewis York; granddaughter, Hilary York; grandson, Cameron York; brother and sister-in-law, Gerry and Polly York; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Memorial Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Tommy G. Bowens as eulogist. Interment will be at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Body was born Dec. 12, 1936 in Milford. She was a member of Taylor Memorial Church of God in Christ and a graduate of G. W. Jackson High School.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Price; father, Issue Price; mother, Willie Mae Price; and brother, Ervin Price.

Gladys Mildred Harrison, 97, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002.

There was a private family service. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana and other services will be held at a later date.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas P. Harrison.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by granddaughters, Carol Harrison Raths and husband Dean and Pamela Gail Harrison Lane and husband Robert; daughter-in-law, Ina Boyd Shireman and husband Ray; and great-grandchildren, Justin Raths, Nathan Lane, Katherine Raths, Rachel Lane and Sara Lane.

Leonard D. Giesler, 84, of Corsicana, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. A memorial gathering will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wicklow Inn, 220 N. 14th St., Corsicana

Mr. Giesler was born Nov. 13, 1918 in Temple to Grace and Garnet Giesler. He served as a U.S. Air Force pilot in WWII, stationed in the U.S., India and China. After the war he served a number of years with Ford Motor company in the Houston and southwestern area of Texas. He may be remembered for his humor and cunning wit and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include wife Mary E. Patrick Giesler, formerly of Brownsville; sister Lina G. Leonard of Santa Barbara, Calif.; attentive special niece Grace White DeLew of Long Beach, Calif. and her brothers Arthur, James and Douglas White; nephews Louis, William and Davis Buck; nieces Marilyn Buck, Lisa Rubin, Beth Wagland and Jenna Rubin of California and Australia; and many other relatives.

Letha Danford Minatra, 88, of Georgetown and formerly of Corsicana, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 in Georgetown.

Mrs. Minatra was born Feb. 27, 1914 in Blooming Grove to Christian and Laura Green Fulton. She worked for Hagger Slacks as a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Raymond W. Danford; husband of 17 years, Robert H. Minatra; granddaughters, Debra Kay Stuckly and Tamberly Renee Johns; and great-grandson, Mitchell John Stuckly.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Raymond and Pansy Danford of Waxahachie; daughter and son-in-law, Anertha Kay and Preston Stuckly of Georgetown; grandchildren, Kevin and Jeanne Stuckly of Georgetown, Joel Danford of Dallas and Chet Danford of Waxahachie; great-grandchildren, Darian Stuckly, Emily Stuckly and Cameron Johns; and sister, Adelia Elder of Dallas.

Tennie Criddle Chimney, 71, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Quiet hour will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church with Pastor M.C. Cooper officiating and the Rev. Billy C. Freeman as eulogist. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Mrs. Chimney was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Corsicana. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, where she served as pastoral steward/stewardess. She was a past officer of the Jackson Ex-Students Association. A 1949 graduate of G.W. Jackson High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in 1953 from Jarvis College and master's degree from both the University of North Texas and Stephen F. Austin State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Lufkin and Corsicana and as a principal in the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District. She retired from teaching in May 1997. She returned to teaching in 2001 at the Lifeline Academy Charter School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Rubie Nell Criddle; sister, Janice Frances; and brother, Willie Criddle Jr.

She was preceded in death by husband Lewis Smith and son, Lewis Smith Jr.

Rev. Luther Crawford, 72, of Corsicana, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Corsicana.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Marxhall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Pastor Ralph Lee of Hubbard Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Lonnie Johnson of Fairhaven Baptist Church in Mesquite and Pastor Jim Anderson of Second Ave. Baptist Church in Corsicana will officiate. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro.

Rev. Crawford was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Paducah to Winfield Scott and Lena Augusta (Hansard) Crawford. He grew up in Estelline and graduated in 1947. He married Wanda Reed on Sept. 15, 1948 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. It was during his time with the Navy when he delivered his first public sermon. After teh service, he went to school at the Texas Baptist Institute where he received his Doctorate degree. He began pastoring at Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church in Laneville and was the first preacher of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gary. He then went to Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lamesa and was at Wallnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro for 10 years. He then went to the Missionary Baptist Church in Corsicana for two years and the Carthage Missionary Baptist Church for three yeears. In 1977, he was elected Secretary-Treasurer of Missions for the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas and served in this position until his death. He was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church of Corsicana.

After the death of his wife, Wanda, on Sept. 28, 1982, Rev. Crawford wed Theda Ruggles, July 14, 1983. Luther said, "the Lord gave me two great help mates."

He was preceded in death by wife Wanda, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include wife Theda Crawford of Corsicana; two sons Mike Crawford and wife Virginia of Walnut Springs and Philip Crawford and wife Terri of Hillsboro; one brother Ernest Moss Crawford of Olney; four sisters Ruth Lancaster of Lubbock, Ruby Hartman of Lockney, Rosa Lee Porter of California and Rachel Hunt of Henderson; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Nelson N. Ross, 91, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 in Corsicana.

Mr. Ross was born Aug. 27, 1911 in Stephenville to John H. and Sarah Ross. He attended school in Corsicana and graduated from Abilene Christian University. He received a master's degree from East Texas State University. He taught school and coached in Graham and Corsicana High School, teaching biology, history and coaching during the 1950s. He continued teaching distributive education at Corsicana High School and mid-management at Navarro College. He was co-owner of Ross Brothers Honey Co. He was a lifetime member of Westhill Church of Christ and was a member of the Rotary Club and Navarro County Historical Society. He also served in the U.S. Navy as lieutenant junior grade during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rose Hashop Ross in 1996; parents, John H. and Sara Carmack Ross; brother, R. E. Ross, Ernest Ross, John Ross and Clyde Ross; and sisters, Era Short and Marie Grubbs.

Survivors include his son, Bobby Ross of Corsicana; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Dr. Reese Brown of Liberty; granddaughters, Caren Brown Smith of Richland, Kristen Brown Roedner of Boston, Mass., and Rebecca Ross Ramsey of Austin; grandson, Kevin Brown of Houston; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Jewell McGhee of Belton.

Roy H. Whisenhunt Sr., who had lived in Hoquiam for 33 years, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his home. He was 52.

Mr. Whisenhunt was born July 31, 1950, in Aberdeen, to Claude and Rose Marie (McKinney) Whisenhunt. He was raised Corsicana, Texas.

He worked as a drywall installer and painter. Mr. Whisenhunt enjoyed restoring cars, especially mechanically.

He is survived by his mother, Rose Widman of Hoquiam; two sons, Roy Jr. of Montesano and Robert of Raymond; two daughters, Kathy Spoon of Aberdeen and Beth Ann of Montesano; four brothers, Ronald of Detroit, Mich., Raymond of Springfield, Mo., Ralph of Hoquiam and Richard of Tacoma, and four grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Harbor Assembly of God in Hoquiam. Arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home of Aberdeen.

OGLESBY - Mrs. Opal Joyce Gilliam Peveto, 55, of Oglesby died Wednesday at her residence.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Oglesby, the Rev. Danny Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby.

Mrs. Peveto was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Purdon, daughter of Clyde and Willie Gilliam. She was reared and attended schools in Oglesby having moved there at 11.  She was married to T. J. (Bud) Peveto Oct. 28, 1950, in McGregor. They were longtime Oglesby residents. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Oglesby. She was also an avid fisherman.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. James (Pat) Sexton and Mrs. Steven (Carla) Bartels, both of Valley Mills; two sons, Craig Peveto and Stanley Peveto, both of Gatesville; four sisters, Inez Melton and Louise Roedler, both of Oglesby, Dorothy Barker of Gatesville and Carrie Key of Waco; a brother, Lynn Gilliam of Cut and Shoot; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

She was born July 25, 1912 in Purdon.

Inez Compton, 90, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 in Corsicana.

She was born July 25, 1912 in Purdon. She was a beautician in the Corsicana area for 41 years. She was a past noble grand of Home Rebekah Lodge No. 128 and held numerous other offices in the lodge. On Nov. 25, she became a 50-year member. She was also a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 118 and was a charter member of the PALS Club of Navarro College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Jess Compton; mother, Mary Ann Wheat Compton; and brothers, Franklin Compton and Thomas Allen Compton Sr.

Survivors include her sisters, Monie R. Mims and husband Johnny of North Carolina and Laura "Polly" Middleswart of California; nephews, Bobby Compton and wife Dianne of Corsicana, Kelton Compton and wife Sandy and Frank Compton; nieces, Glynda Parrish and husband Neely and Linda Gayle Riley; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews; special friend, Ernie Fincher; and numerous other friends.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Roy Finis Dawson, 87, of Dew passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 in Fairfield.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dew United Methodist Church with Brother Bo Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Dew Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sam Nance, Dickey Ferguson, Jason Cooley, Tracy Rowell, Randy Dawson, Bob Nolan, Gordon Stephenson, Robert Bragg, Leslie Whiteside, Keith Hardwick, Skipper Allen and Tony Ferguson.

Mr. Dawson was born Nov. 4, 1915 in Freestone County. He had been a dry wall finisher and a member of Lanely United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Dawson; and parents, Isaac Newton and Winiferd Dawson.

Survivors include his son, Billy Roy Dawson and wife Alice of Dew; daughters, Charlene Little and husband Jody of Dew, Dorothy Nance and husband David of Waxahachie and Imogene Ferguson of Lanely; 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ann (Roxburgh) Gordon

Margaret Ann Gordon, 88, of Tahoka went to be with her Lord Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church Chapel of Midland with the Rev. Lane Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

She was born July 25, 1914 in Denton to James A. and Hettie M. Roxburgh. She moved to Corsicana with her family and attended the public schools, graduating in the spring of 1932. She married Hue L. Gordon Nov. 11, 1936. She graduated from Draughon's Practical Business College in 1946. She lived in Lubbock, San Marcos, Dallas and Midland. A gifted musician, she played the piano for several churches of which she was a member including Dayspring Church and Christian Life Center. She volunteered her musical services for nine years at the Rockwood Manor Nursing Home, and for several additional years with the Boone Bible Class of First United Methodist Church in Midland. Because of failing health, she moved this past July to the Lynnwood Assisted Care Facility in Tahoka to be near her immediate family.

Survivors include her son, James L. of Lubbock; sisters, Dura Clarke and Marie Coleman, both of Midland, and Jimmie Katherine Bledsoe of Dallas; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church "Stephen Ministry" or the ministry of one's choice.

Herschel Fred French Sr.

Herschel Fred French Sr., 88, of Grand Prairie passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 in a Dallas hospital.

Graveside services were held Friday at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Mr. French was born Dec. 8, 1914 in Frost and grew up in Corsicana, where he attended school. He entered the U.S. Army and served until 1942, after which he went to work for Southwestern Bell in Dallas. In 1946 he began working for Temco, which later became Ling Temco Vaught, as a quality control inspector and retired in 1980 after 36 years. He was a member of the Grand Prairie American Legion Post No. 184 and the Thomas B. Hunter Masonic Lodge No. 1356 in Grand Prairie. He was also a Scottish Rite and a York Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Monnie of Grand Prairie; sons, John W. French and wife Juanita of Austin and Herschel Fred French Jr. and wife Anna of Grand Prairie; brother, Edwin W. French and wife Alyne of Fort Worth; sister, Margie French Flynn and husband Charlie L. of Corsicana; and grandchildren Rhonda Rosco, Tamatha Hamblin, Herschel French III and Glenda French.

Lydia Claire Willard, 56, of Garland passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 in Garland.

She was born July 6, 1946 in Austin to Gordon Willard Jr. and Eloina Martinez Willard.

Lauretta Pillow Murphy, 69, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 in Corsicana.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with Revs. Don Sawyer and Dan Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy was born June 26, 1933 in Corsicana. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Missionary Church in Retreat and the Kinsloe House. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by parents Wilmer and Jewel Pillow.

Jimmy Lee Ingram Jr., 43, of Blooming Grove passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at his residence.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Monday at M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals Chapel. Interment will follow at Samaria Cemetery east of Kerens.

Mr. Ingram was born Nov. 25, 1959 in Corsicana. He united with the Church of Living God P.G.T. at an early age. He attended Blooming Grove public schools before entering the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Ingram.

Mr. Ingram is survived by daughters, Monique, Selena and Jimmeshia Ingram, all of Long Beach, Calif.; father and stepmother, Jimmy Ingram Sr. and Anna of Corsicana; grandmother, Maggie Ingram of Blooming Grove; sisters, Jimmie Guinyard of Blooming Grove, Cathy Honey of Garland and Linda Majors of Colorado Springs, Col.; brothers, Vernell and Isaac Faulk of Emhouse, James Ingram of Huntsville and Bobby Ingram of Corsicana; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Mabel Doris Henley, 77, of Tupelo passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at her residence, 4413 County Road NE0220 in Rice with the Rev. Dave Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at the new Chatfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Henley is survived by three daughters, Sandra Winkles of Tupleo, and Barbara Jean Henley and Debra Poe, both of Pratville, Ala.; two brothers, James Harrison of Lakeland, Fla. and Troy Pipkin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Carl Johnson, 88, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at Health Care and Rehab Center of Corsicana.

Eva Mae Blackman

Eva Mae Blackman, 91, longtime resident of Corsicana passed away in her sleep Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Navarro Regional Hospital after having a severe stroke at her home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Smith, Kenneth Adams, Ernest Walker, Jerry Blackmon, Joe Bob Alexander, Billy Harrell and W. C. Adams.

Mrs. Blackman was born May 15, 1913, in Milam County to the late James Clyde Vaughan and Susie Belle Gullett. She grew up in the small community of Cedar Springs with her two sisters, Clyda and Allene Vaughan. She attended high school in Travis and graduated from Rosebud High School. She attended Baylor University.

Mae married Hoyt Troy Blackman in 1933. After living in the Shady Grove community, they moved to Corsicana where they owned and operated Blackman's Grocery for 36 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Blackman; her parents; her sister, Clyda Alexander; stepfather, Thomas Jefferson Watkins; stepbrothers, Blanch and Reed Watkins; and stepsister, Gladys (Watkins) Chatham.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Trema Blackman of Corsicana; two grandchildren, Bradley Wayne Blackman and Lisa Lanette Blackman Harrell and husband Billy, all of Corsicana; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Lee Harrell and Leia Michelle Harrell, both of Corsicana; sister, Allene Adams of Kilgore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
