Mary Francis (Berry) Dosser

Mrs. Dosser Is Interred Friday 

Mrs. Mary Francis (Berry) Carr Dosser, 73, died Wednesday, Feb. 13,1952, in Corsicana.  She was born May 21, 1878.

Funeral services were held Friday, at 3 p.m. from the Corley Chapel in Corsicana, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Rites were conducted by Rev. Herbert G. Dudley, minister of the First Christian Church.

Mrs. Dosser was a native of Palo Pinto County.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Henry Dosser; a son, Buna Carr;  two grandsons, Harry and Larry Carr; her mother, Mrs. Alice Berry, all of  Corsicana; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Talley of Highlands, and Mrs. Maudie Jones of  Athens; and a brother, Edgar Berry of Waco.

Ada (McGraw) Turner
abt 1875 - May 1953

Blooming Grove Times, May 4, 1952 Mrs. Ada Turner, 77, long-time resident of this section, died Saturday morning.Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Methodist church with burial in the Grange Hall Cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Pat Brown, pastor. A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Turner had resided in this section since 1891.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Turner, Blooming Grove, and Ralph Turner, Alma; a daughter, Mrs. David Yates, Frost; a brother, Lacy McGraw, Blooming Grove; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and other relatives. Nephews were pallbearers.McCormick Funeral Service directed.

William Red Deskin

Last Rites Monday for W. R. Deskin 

William Red Deskin, 81, retired oil operator and former merchant, died at his home in Corsicana early Sunday morning, December 24, 1961.

Funeral services were held from the McCammon Chapel in Corsicana Monday, December 25, 1961, at 3 pm with burial in the Prairie Point Cemetery at Bazette.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Burt Gillis, pastor of the First Methodist Church here, and C. B. Holcomb, minister of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ.

After operating a store at Bazette for several years, he was in the oil business for more than 35 years.

Surviving are two sons: Roy Deskin, Corsicana and Tad Deskin, Midland; five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Jewell) Reed, Kerens;  Mrs. Calvin (Jessie) Gafford, Dallas;  Mrs. E. B. (Billie) Travis, Mrs. G. B. (Amma Dee) Garrett and  Mrs. Ray (June) Humpries, all of Corsicana;  a sister, Mrs. Bedia (Deskin) Tramel, Kerens:  a sister-in-law: Miss Fannie Kirk, Corsicana and 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Red was preceded in death by his wife: Emma (Kirk) Deskin,  parents:  John Greenberry and Sarah Deborah (Carpenter) Deskin, his sisters: Annie (Philley) Brown and Leolar (Deskin) Barnett, and his brother: Andrew Jefferson Deskin.

Pallbearers were Tillman Reed, Harvey Rogers, June Clark, Jr., G. C. Hudson, Sam Roberts, Jr., and Jack Todd.

Sylvan Brown

Sylvan Brown was born in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas on July 15, 1925 to Ben and Bessie Brown. He passed away in his home, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 77 on Monday Aug 26, 2002. Sylvan attended Southern Methodist University where he met his future wife, Lavonne Hirth, on a blind date. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Sylvan opened his advertising agency in 1958 and was a pioneer in the advertising industry. He was the recipient of many advertising honors, including the Clio award. Sylvan lived an enjoyable life with his family, friends, and business associates. He will be remembered and missed always. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lavonne Brown; son, Mark Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Suzan and Tom Schmitt; grandchildren, Evan Schmitt and Brian Brown; brother, Leon Brown; niece and nephew, Lorie and Charles Meister and their children, Ryan and Brooke. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday Aug 27 2002 at Geo H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. The funeral service will be Wednesday August 28, 2002 at 10 o'clock in the morning in the chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of choice.


Frances Viola (Pillans) Crumbley

Frances Viola Crumbley

Frances Viola Crumbley, 84, of Corsicana passed away Monday, March 24, 2003, at Twilight Home.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Brother Elton McCann officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Benny Pillans, Roger Pillans, James Gary Pillans, Kevin Fullerton, Joey Satagaj, Phil Pillans, Billy Pillans, Corky Haglar, Clell Young and Gary Pillans. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Ivie, Mike Adams, Carl Zaconne, David Johnson and John Satagaj.

She was born March 27, 1918, in St. Elmo to Benjamin Darden Pillans and Oletha Melton Pillans. She loved her family, friends and community. She spent her life helping and serving others. This was evident as she shared her nursing skills for over 50 years in Corsicana. She helped deliver and care for many children in the Corsicana area. Frances rocked and spoiled each one as if they were all her very own grandchildren. Frances and her husband Bugs Crumbley rendered jars and jars of honey to area friends and neighbors. She prepared and delivery the jars after Bugs brought the honey home. Frances' first love was her church, Missionary Baptist Church of Corsicana. All who spent any time with Frances knew that she loved her Lord Jesus Christ and yearned to go home to be with him. On March 24, 2003, her prayers were answered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. E. "Bugs" Crumbley; parents; brothers, Lloyd Pillans, Jim Pillans, Willie E. Pillans and Wayne Pillans; and sisters, Sallie Satagaj and Lillian Fullerton.

Survivors include her brothers, Robert Pillans and wife Vernon of St. Elmo and Jack Pillans of Corsicana; sister, Gertrude Young of Irving; sisters-in-law, Joyce Pillans of St. Elmo and Frances Pillans of Streetman; brother-in-law, Joe Satagaj of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frances Louise Buck, 72, of Corsicana passed away Monday, March 24, 2003, at Health Care & Rehab of Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mrs. Buck was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Emhouse to Talmadge DeWitt Farmer and Laura May Patrick Farmer.

Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jessie and Rose Farmer of Indiana, Thomas "Tom" and Nancy Farmer of Nederland, Edward Farmer of Wyoming and Dewayne and Peggy Farmer of Flint; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Armstrong, Emma and Dale Meador and Rita and Wayne Bernsen, all of Corsicana, Sandra and Gary Youngblood of Malakoff, Barbara Blum of Vancouver, Wash., and Lita and Clayton Farr of Baytown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tommie Rea Moore, 89, of Allen passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Plano. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. B. Tommie Rea Moore

Tommie Rea Moore died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Creekside Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Plano. Born in Corsicana, TX on October 29, 1913, to Myrtle Harris and Thomas Sloan Rea, she attended Corsicana public schools and completed a business course at Lacy B. Rice Business School. In 1942, Tommie enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Corps and served three years in the Army Air Corps attaining the rank of Master Sergeant in just six months after enlistment. While in the service, Tommie attended Sul Ross College in Alpine, TX. In 1946 Tommie began her 26-year career in Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, attaining the position of Funds Certifying Officer. During this time, she continued her education at Fox-Tech and San Antonio College in business and accounting. Tommie was married to Glenn Moore who preceded her in death in 1997. After retirement and returning to Corsicana, Tommie was an active member of the American Business Women's Association, Kinsloe House, Camp Fire Inc., Navarro Memorial Hospital Association, and the Campbell-Elrod Memorial Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Corsicana. Tommie is survived by stepson Raz Warren Moore, niece Martha Rea Baker and her husband Bill Baker, three great-nephews and one great-great-nephew. Services will be held at Corley Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 28, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be John Bailey, Bill Baker, David Baker, Mark Baker, William Baker and Don Whitten and honorary pallbearers Willie Hodge, Don Farmer and Jack Rea. Loree Arnett, 85, of Orlando, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Florida Hospital South Orlando, Fla.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Paschal Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Bob Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery.

Mrs. Arnett was born May 21, 1917, in Center Point, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jodie Barton, Vaughn Barton and Bruce Barton; and infant sister, Ruby Marene Barton.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Mr. Hamilton was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Coolidge.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 1162 Hargrave St., Austin, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ross and Johnson Mortuary in Corsicana.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1808 W. 10th Ave., Corsicana, with Pastor Donn/ Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Chandler, Tim Hester, Henry Sallis, Calvin Kimball, Ricky Reed and Leon Kellough Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Connell Solomon, Billy Solomon, M.C. Solomon, Sammie Barton, M. J. Solomon, Clifford Barton and Clifford Strain Sr.

Mr. Hodge was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Corsicana. He was employed by Hanson Pipe and retired after 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Artis "Big Dog" Hodge and Katie Mae Barton; and three sons.

Clint Ezell Robinson, 85, of Streetman, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church on the corner of Ross and Marsh Street in Streetman. Pastor Joe D. Hubbard Sr. will be officiating. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery in Streetman.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Ray Robinson, Kenneth Adams, Willie Walker, Louis Rush, Al Boldon and Ray Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frederick Walker, McClemon Grant, Damon Walker, William Green, Kenneth Eakles and Melvin Robinson.

Mr. Robinson was born on May 21, 1917, in Freestone County. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad. He was a faithful member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by son Clint Robinson Jr.

Survivors included wife Mary Frances Robinson of Streetman; four daughters, Frances Thomal of Kirvin, Eula (Willie) Walker of Dallas, Dianne Portis of Dallas and Lavetta (Kenneth) Adams of Schertz; adopted children, Judy (Charles) Kelly of Richland, Dessie (Joe) Green of Corsicana; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Robinson of Fairfield, Lou Brown and Shirly Hart both of Dallas; three brothers, Curtis Robinson of Streetman, Melvin (Ruby) Robinson of Fairfield, Benny Ray (Brenda) Robinson of Fairfield and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jack Fred Cole, 71, of Dawson passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Temple.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ross and Johnson Chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at House of Refuge Church of God in Christ in Dawson with Pastor Samuel Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Mr. Cole was born June 14, 1931, in Dawson. He was a member of House of Refuge Church of God in Christ until his health failed. He also retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service as staff sergeant.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie Cole and Billy Cole; and sister, Judy Cole.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa L. Cole Collier (Walter); brothers, Archie Cole (Elvertis) of Dallas, Truman Cole and Kenneth Cole, both of Dawson, and Fredrick Cole (Helen) of Austin; sisters, Ella F. Ackins (Orbe) of Torrance, Calif. and Jane Wilborn of Houston; aunts, Lillian Harris of Midland and Lisa Simmons of Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Eula B. Nelson Rocquemore, 82, of Dawson passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hopewell Baptist Church in Dawson with Pastor Monroe L. Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson Cemetery.

Mrs. Rocquemore was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Dawson. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church serving as a member of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elwood Nelson; mother, Ida Sterling Jackson; stepfather, Robert Jackson; brothers, Tom Nelson, George Nelson, John Nelson, Lyle "Nap" Nelson, Earlie Bables and Robert Eugene Jackson; sisters, Bernice Smith and Elma Nelson; and husbands, Fred Calico and Oliver Rocquemore.

Survivors include her sons, Lanny Calico of Pittsburg, Texas, and Larry Calico of Amarillo; devoted nephews, Cleoda (Audrey) Bables, George "Smiley" (Willie) Nelson and Edward (Mary) Bables; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Elliott Livingston, 85, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Brother Bill Honea officiating.

Mr. Livingston was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Wortham. He was a veteran of World War II, and retired from Civil Service. He loved the Lord, lived his life as a Christian and served as a Baptist minister. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a longtime employee of Gibson's and worked as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by father Charlie Livingston, mother Elizabeth Livingston, brothers Warren Livingston, Pete Livingston and Audrey Livingston, sister Ruth Wright, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Virginia Livingston, son Charles E. Livingston, wife Jerienne Livingston of Corsicana, daughter Linda L. McKinney and the late Don McKinney of Corsicana, sister Lenora Williams of Mount Calm, sister Etta Merrell of Texarkana, grandchildren Tim and Kim Welch of Rice, Rusty and Lelanie Jones of Mildred, Charles and Connie Livingston of Emhouse, Kenneth and Shelley Martin of Mildred, Chris and Jackie Smith of Corsicana, and Paul and Heather Smith of Corsicana, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church, where the Rev. M. C. Cooper is pastor, with the Rev. R. C. Emanuel officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews Elliot Gould Jr., Jerrod Bryant, Allison Smart III, George Bryant, Howard Bryant and Gary Jones Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Bethel AME Church.

Mrs. DeGraffenreid was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Corsicana. She was a 1934 graduate of G. W. Jackson High School, retired cosmetologist, and nursing assistant. She was a member of Bethel AME Church where she served on the usher board and gospel choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John DeGraffenreid; four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her niece, Scharmal Newson of Corsicana; nephew, Wiley L. Lewis of Englewood, Calif.; great-nieces, Annie P. Raymond of Oklahoma, Brenda J. Gould of Houston, Sharon Dansby of Fort Worth, Marilyn Jones of Frisco and Jean Hardy of Pearland; great-nephews, Charles B. Bryant III of Houston, Allison Smart III of Fort Worth, George Bryant of Marshall, Howard Bryant of Pearland, Walter Lewis of Carrollton and Terance Lewis of Arlington; godchild, Kathryn "Dee Dee" Powell; and special friends, Valerie Wilson, Katherine Watts, Willie Fields and Lucille Grayson.

Lillie Inez Blackmon, 84, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Corsicana.

Mrs. Blackmon was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Navarro County. She was a faithful member of North Beaton Church of Christ and the PALS Club. She loved to play homemade games with her grandchildren and was a wonderful story teller. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O. F. Blackmon; brother, Joe Farmer; and sisters, Lena Onstott and Ellen Russell.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry Blackmon and wife Linda of the Pickett community and Jesse Blackmon of Houston; grandsons, Jerry Blackmon Jr. and wife Rhonda of Blooming Grove, and Brandon Blackmon and Justin Blackmon, both of Houston; granddaughters, Kim Marshall and husband Sam of Rice and Pam Thomas and husband Randy of Eureka; great-grandsons, Sam Marshall Jr. and Jasper Marshall, both of Rice, Zachary Thomas and Jacob Thomas, both of Eureka, and Dylon Blackmon of Blooming Grove; great-granddaughter, Brittany Blackmon of Blooming Grove; sister, Kathleen Calhoun of Blooming Grove; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Wanda Maxine Poe

Wanda Maxine Poe, 77, of Corsicana was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Wortham to Branford H. and Sallie Miller. She went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Corsicana. She loved to paint and garden. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Russ Houck officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and relatives.

Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Poe, son Bobby Poe, sisters Lois Allen and Corinne Leudermilk, and brothers Rebuern and Falton Miller.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Shelia Poe of Corsicana, daughters and son-in-law Pam and James Ferguson of Eureka and Patricia Coker of Brazoria, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, brothers L. G. "Buddy" Miller of Mexia, Q.Q. "Son" Miller and B. H. Miller, both of Corsicana, and also a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marietta Agnes Smith, 74, left this world to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2003. She was born on Jan. 19, 1929 in Moab, Utah to Clint Lee Sly and Ida Marie (Carder) Sly. She was married to Bobby Joe Andrews and lived in Texas for 48 years until he passed away June 1994. She was married to Robert W. Smith of Pueblo, Colo. in May 1997. She is survived by her husband Robert W. Smith and her three children -- Claudia Ruth Adcock and husband Jimmy of Corsicana, Russell Lee Andrews and wife Gayla of Corsicana and Valura Marie Boales and husband Kim of Corsicana, and one stepson, Dick Smith and wife Maria of Denver, Colo., six grandchildren -- Daniel Lee Jones, Jerry Bob Jones and wife Chrissy, Dusty Lee Andrews, Clint Wilson Andrews and wife Tami, January Marie Riecke and Melve E Tre' Riecke III, two great-grandchildren -- Raegan Elizabeth Jones and Chasyn Russell Andrews. She has two brothers, John and Ira Sly, three sisters, Ruth Beeson, Bessie Balsinger and June Cleveland, and numerous nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

"Nana" loved her family sewing, quilting, and traveling with her many friends. Her courage and strength in facing her illness was, and will be for a long time, an inspiration to all who knew her. She never lost her positive attitude or her loving personality.

Graveside services will be at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Monday, March 31, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Dale Leggett officiating.

Ethel Clare Brown of Corsicana passed away at 10 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with a graveside service for close friends and family at Richland Cemetery. The Rev. David Mitchell will officiate.

She was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Lee County, Texas, near Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Rev. James D. and Amanda Catherine Waddle Clare.

Survivors include her husband, William E. Brown of Richland; son, William E. Brown Jr. and wife Shirley of Richland; grandson, William Russell Brown and wife Ann of Richland; and great-granddaughter, Bethany Ann Brown of Richland.

Ethel is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters and two brothers, A long-time officer of Corsicana National Bank, she retired as a senior vice president in 1981. Ethel was an active member of the Kinsloe House for many years, a member of Northside Baptist Church, a member of the Genealogy Society, a member of the Navarro County Historic Society, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 3366, and past president of the Athenauem Literary Club.

Mr. George was born Aug. 25, 1909 in Navarro County. He was retired from Henry Slate Grocery and Feed Store. He served faithfully on the Usher Board of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie George and parents, Allen and Louise George.

Mr. George is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Lilian George of Dallas; two grandchildren, Lyle George of Cedar Hill and Tamara Martin of Dallas; two great-grandchildren, Tayler Martin and Tamara Martin, both of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Cloyce Williamson Floyd

Cloyce Williamson Floyd, 76, of Dawson passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2003, at a Mexia hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Dawson with the Rev. Brad Brittain and the Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow at Dawson Cemetery.

Mr. Floyd was born July 12, 1926, in Dawson and was raised in Union High where he still owned the family home place. He attended Union High schools, graduated from Dawson High School and attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. Cloyce was a veteran having served in the Air Force as a sergeant and was a civilian instructor at Sheppard Air Force Base for 12 years. He moved back to Dawson in 1963 and served as postmaster from 1965 to 1986 when he retired. He also was a rancher and raised Longhorn cattle. Cloyce supported youth activities of Dawson and Navarro County and was the announcer for the Dawson Saddle Club for many years. He loved his children and all the children of Dawson. He was a member of the Union High Volunteer Fire Association, a lifetime member of the Dawson Historical Society and the Dawson Ex-Students Association. Mr. Floyd was a 50-year member of the Dawson Masonic Lodge and earned his 32nd degree in Scottish Rite in Prestwick, Scotland. He was also a charter member of the Dawson Lions Club and a member of First United Methodist Church in Dawson.

Cloyce married Myrle Estelle Plunkett of Wortham on July 24, 1947, at First United Methodist Church of Wortham. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1979. He married Wanda Clark Barton on Oct. 15, 1995, at First United Methodist Church in Mart.

Cloyce is survived by his wife, Wanda Floyd of Dawson; son, John Robert Barton of Marshall; daughters, Donna Jean Currier and husband Bobby of Pasadena and Karen Lee Barton of Purdon; a special grandchild, Brittany Barton Floyd, who lived with Cloyce and Wanda; cousin, Clyde Lemoine Bounds of Wortham; and lifetime friend, Clyde Olin Gardner of Milford.

Pallbearers will be John Barton, Cruz Chavez, Kenneth Wickham, Tim Sanders, Conrad Newton III, Hugh Wickham, Louis Raburn and John Adler. Honorary pallbearers will be B.D. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Jane Ellen Bates and Lois Fay Smith; brothers, Lloyd C. Smith, Jessie S. Smith and Benny Smith; and sister, Jeraldine Cronan.

After a long and happy life, Christine Woodring Bristow, went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2003, in Madisonville, where she made her home for the last three years.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Corsicana with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park at 1 p.m. today.

Christine was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Ellis County to Cyrus and Ruby Woodring. She was the oldest of seven siblings, Lee Woodring of Fort Worth, Ruth Formby of Corsicana, Willard Woodring of San Antonio, Doris Sturges of Mount Pleasant, Wayne Woodring of Dallas and the late Wanda Westmoreland.

Christine married Roy Bristow in 1930 and moved to Corsicana at that time. They were active in First Baptist Church and several professional and civic organizations. After raising her family, Christine taught math in the Corsicana schools for many years. After retirement she tutored math privately until the age of ninety. She held a bachelor's degree from North Texas University and a master's degree from Baylor University. She began her teaching career in Emhouse where she met Roy Bristow. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Navarro County Retired Teachers, Twentieth Century Study Club, and China Painters Guild. Her hobbies included sewing, china painting, gardening and traveling.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Mary Lou Bristow of Madisonville; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Prigmore of Bullard; grandchildren, Becky and Dale Graham of Lorena, Laurie and Earl Shanks of Coppell, Chuck and Rhonda Bristow of Richardson, David and Laura Prigmore of Southlake, and Julie Prigmore of Dallas; nine great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Services for Louise "Dee Dee" Baxter Aston, 98, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eastern Hills Church of Christ with David Mahan and Lavelle Layfield officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Point Cemetery in Bazette under the direction of Carrol-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mr. Aston died March 29, 2003 in Athens.

She was born March 6, 1905 in Corsicana and was raised in the Bazette Community in Navarro County. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Miles Aston in 1965. Known to family and friends as "Aunt Dee Dee," she was the last survivor of eight children born to Charles Richard and Maggie Kirk Baxter. Her brothers who preceded were Noma Baxter, Clint Baxter, Russell Baxter, Charles Royce Baxter and Richard Warner Baxter. Her sisters who preceded her in death were Inez Baxter Loftis and Georgianne Baxter Watt.

DeeDee was always proud to tell the story of how in 1855 the early Baxter family had settled in and named the community of Baxter Springs, Kansas. In the yars following the Civil War, the family moved to Texas, eventually settling in Bazette in Navarro County.

DeeDee moved to Athens in the late 1940s after having lived in Wichita Falls and Wink. For many years she was employed at the Palace Drugstore on the Atehns Square and often fondly reminsced about selling the drugstore's fine cosmetics. DeeDee was quick to remind her family that she had never missed a Bazette Picnic at the Prairie Point Cemetery for as long as she could remember. She was a Charter Member of Robbins Road Church of Christ, now Eastern Hills Church of Christ. DeeDee was a member of the Women's Business and Professional Association, Eastern Star and was a Charter Member of the Social Order of the Beauceant Assembly No. 172 of Athens.

Aunt DeeDee was dearly loved by her numerous nieces and nephews and other family members who survive her.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anita Mary Brown.

She was born Oct. 7, 1947, in Corsicana. She was a member of Emhouse Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Helton; mother, Helen Ruth Armstrong; stepfather, Elzie Armstrong; and brother, Lee Arther Helton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Amber and David Keele of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Rene Krantz of Corsicana; granddaughters, Jennafer Fitzgerald, Rebecca Cheyenne Fitzgerald, Dakota Fitzgerald, Macayla Keele, Eryka Krantz, Alexis Krantz, Cecsily Greenup, Courtney Grant and Jo Jo Kuykendall, all of Corsicana; grandson, David Kuykendall of Corsicana; and several special cousins, aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

James Hershel Covington, 65, of Grand Junction, Colo. passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Larchwood Inn due to complications following a stroke.

Visitation will be 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin Mortuary Chapel.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin Funeral Home in Grand Junction. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Covington was born Nov. 2, 1937 in Jester, Texas, spending his childhood there before graduation Purdon High School. He married Sheryl R. Polley Nov. 29, 1969 in Rangely, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and visiting with friends. Mr. Covington was a resident of Grand Junction, Colo. for 13 years.

Mr. Covington is survived by his wife, Sheryl Covington of Grand Junction, Colo.; father, Tucker Covington of Corsicana; daughter, Michelle Davis and husband James of Corsicana; brothers, Johnny Covington and wife Janet and Billy Covington and wife Sandra, all of Corsicana; sister, Ima Reeder of Corsicana; grandson, Michael Graham of Corsicana; and many nieces and nephews.

Pauline Wilson Hiler

Pauline Wilson Hiler, 93, of Rowlett passed away at 5:56 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Senior Care of Lake Point.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel in Blooming Grove.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with Brother Grady Cashion officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Russell Hiler, Chad Ramsey, Jay Estes, Stan Niece, Joe "Buddy" McGraw and Gerald McSpadden.

She was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Angus to Claude and Daisy Duncan Wilson. Pauline married Ernest "Red" Hiler Dec. 24, 1934. They had two children, Sandra Hiler Callicutt, born Jan. 12, 1940, and Ernest Eldon "Bubba" Hiler, born Dec. 29, 1941. Pauline was a homemaker and a housewife. The only work she did outside the home was chopping and picking cotton with her children beside her. Pauline loved her church and was in attendance every time the doors were open. Pauline served as church clerk at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove from 1966 until 1986. She was very active in the women's ministries, the church choir and taught a women's Sunday school class for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Red" Hiler; and siblings, Claude Von Wilson, Julius Preston Wilson and Willie Mac Freeman.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jack Callicutt of Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Francine Hiler of Wills Point; grandchildren, Paula Callicutt Niece and husband Stan, Janna Hiler Ramsey and husband Chad, Russell Hiler and wife Tammy, and Traci Callicutt Estes and husband Jay; and nine great-grandchildren.

Doris Leighton Proctor 84, died Dec. 3, 2002 Hamilton. Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Sullivan officiating. Burial followed in Restland Cemetery in Dallas.

Mrs. Proctor was born June 15, 1918 at Corsicana, Texas to John Miller Reed and Edrie Eugene Leighton Reed.

She was married to Loren Charles Bowie in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1975.
In 1984 she was married to Edward W. Proctor who also precedes her in death.
Mrs. Proctor was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three children, Buckie Pate of Hamilton, John Bowie of Houston and Cheryl Fisher of Athens; five grandchildren, nine great-grand-children and one brother John Miller Reed of Dallas.

Calvin Otha "Hoss" Sliger

Funeral service for Calvin "Pete/Hoss" Sliger was held April 5, 2003, at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Wilson and Brother Dyrle Phillips officiating. Interment at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park in Mesquite, TX.

He was born July 15, 1926, in Johnston County Oklahoma and passed away April 2, 2003, at Baylor Hospital, Dallas TX, at the age of 76. He died after a long illness of emphysema/heart disease.

Mr. Sliger was a retired City of Dallas employee, working in the equipment services division.

He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, the former Mary "Mickey" Marshall of Rice, TX. They met while Mary was working at the old bus station in Corsicana, TX in 1951 after serving in the Army during WW II , He served his country for 10 years. Sons and daughter-in-law. Rev. Jim and Donna Sliger, of Beaumont TX and Rick and Leatha Sliger of Garland TX,5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, brothers, Sam Sliger and Charles Sliger of OK, numerous other family members and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister Hazel Reed of OK. and his parents William and Mae Sliger of OK.

Katherine Marie Standard Kidd

Katherine Marie Standard Kidd, born September 9, 1923. She went to be with the Lord April 6, 2003. She is survived by her sons Gary R. Standard, Robert A. Standard, Daniel P. Standard, brother Floyd D. Hawkins, sister Bettye Ann Gilbert, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son David Glen Standard and sister Shirley Beasley. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Her faith in God was recognized by all who met her. Her dedication to her family was admired. Her small steps in life were huge strides of a hero to those around her.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bessie Mae Griffin

Bessie Mae Griffin, 97, of Waco passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003, at a local hospital.  Services will be at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday, March 26 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd.  Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North with the Rev. Jim Grey officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p. m., Tuesday, March 25 at the funeral home.

One of 14 children born to John Irvin and Martha Isabell Mormon Watkins, Mrs. Griffin was born Jan 13, 1906, in Barry, Texas, where she was reared.  She married Earnest Clyde Griffin Dec. 26, 1930, and they moved to McLennan County in 1938 where, for many years, they were engaged in agriculture and cattle business as well as breeding Palomino horses.  Two children were born to the Griffins, John Albert and Calvin Clyde.  Mrs. Griffin was employed by Midway School District for several years and later worked 12 years for Piccadilly restaurants.  She was known for her prize winning pastries.  Mrs. Griffin was a member of Woodway First Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents, thirteen siblings, her husband and son Calvin.

Survivors include son, John Albert Griffin; granddaughters, Susan Lynn Jayroe and husband, David and Marijohn Griffin; and great-grandchildren, Marissa and Landon Jayroe, all of Woodway.  She is also survived by special friends, Carlene Bright, a friend for many years and Jean Raines of Waco.
