Died.

On last Wednesday, August 11th, a message came to relatives and friends here that our fellow citizen and esteemed friend, J. Y. Carroll was dead. Death came at 12:20 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Mineral Wells, where he had gone in search of health. For some time he had been in feeble health, but it was not expected that death was so near. Paralysis was the direct cause of his death.

Mr. Carroll was born in Tennessee March 6th 1844, came to Texas when a child and Kerens has been his home for forty years or more. He was a loyal member of the Masonic lodge of this place, also a member of the Grand Chapter at Corsicana.

He was married to Miss Sallie Barnett in 1872. She died in 1877. For the last 25 years he has made his home with Mr. A. L. Page of this place. He was a man who had many warm friends. He was charitable and was always willing to assist all those who came to him in need. He will be sadly missed by his many relatives and friends, among whom are his two brothers, J. H. Carroll of Kerens and Joe Carroll; also the Masonic lodge in which he so faithfully attended.

His remains were laid to rest in the Jimmerson cemetery Friday, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, the Masons conducting a very impressive funeral ceremony. A good friend and useful man is gone, but not forgotten.
