IN MEMORY.

In memory of our dear father, J. W. Baker, having departed this life October 6, 1928.

He is survived by a wife and ten children, many other relatives and friends who mourn our loss. But our loss is heaven’s gain. He outlived his first wife eighteen years. He early professed a sweet hope and united with the Primitive faith where he served as church clerk. We feel that he is in that home that beautiful home where no sorrow or death shall ever come. Around the great white throne in the city of pure gold and on either side the tree of life. By the grace of God I want to go to meet him there and my Savior who bore that cruel cross for me.

He was a kind, loving father and never have I known him to show affection between his children.

He suffered, oh so much, toward the sunset of life. It seemed so hard to see him suffer so much, but, God in his wisdom knows best. We can only say, “Lord, thy will be done, not mine.”

They laid him neatly away in the
Campbell cemetery Sunday, October 7, 1928, there to await the pleasure of Almighty God, where he shall be raised not as he once was but in the likeness of Him who doeth all things well.

Weep no, dear wife, brothers and sister; but let us prepare to meet father so when God shall call us home we may rejoice rather than weep. Turn your tear-dimmed eyes to an all-seeing God and ask him to lead you in the paths of righteousness.

That beautiful, heavenly home
Which was not quite complete,
So God, called our father
To fill the vacant seat.

He’s gone to that beautiful home
To live with Jesus there,
His spirit from his body flown
Where shines his glory fair.

He lived a truthful life,
Ever gentle, ever mild
Envying bitterness and strife
Truly he was God’s own child.

The first to go was mother dear—
I wish she had not died
Till father was forced to go
And he lies by her side.

We could not keep him;
No, he has gone to stay
Where Jesus ever reigns
And there is everlasting day.

Some day we hope to meet our father—
The time may not be long
Until we’ll be together
In that land of joy and song.

Written by his daughter, Mrs. May Bryant.

The grave was covered with a mass of beautiful floral tributes from friends in Galveston and Corsicana who had known and loved this good woman during her life and were silent tokens of the sorrow that were in their hearts as well as the love and esteem in which she was held during her life.
