BLAIR - Corsicana, Texas, May 4. - Samuel Blair, 75, died at his home Tuesday night. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Blair was born in Ohio and came to Corsicana in 1907. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church for years and a member of the church choir. Surviving are his wife; five children, Mrs. Alice Blair Gauntt, Athens; Mathew C. Blair, and Roy M. Blair, Dallas; Miss Esther Ruth Blair, Corsicana and John C. Blair, El Paso, and three grandchildren.

SAMUEL BLAIR DIED WITH HEART ATTACK ON TUESDAY NIGHT

CORSICANA RESIDENT OVER THIRTY YEARS BURIED ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Samuel Blair, aged 75 years, died at his home, 701 West Fourth avenue, Tuesday night at 8 o’clock with a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the First Presbyterian church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. W. R. Hall, pastor of the church.

Mr. Blair was born August 14, 1863, at Middleton, Ohio. He came to Corsicana in 1907, and was connected with the American Well & Prospecting Company for a number of years prior to his retirement 16 years ago. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian church for a number of years and was a member of the church choir.

Mr. Blair was a musician and was a well known “fiddler” and participated in a band for a number of years at Middleton, Ohio. He was the honor guest at the annual Blair family reunion in Middleton in 1936.

Surviving are his wife, five children, Mrs. Alice Blair Gauntt, Athens; Matthew C. Blair, Dallas; Roy M. Blair, Dallas; Miss Esther Ruth Blair, Corsicana, and John C. Blair, El Paso; three grandchildren, Berta Lou Gauntt, Athens; Matthew C. Blair, Jr., and Anna Marie Blair, both of Dallas.

Pallbearers were F. C. Paul, John C. Hughes, Jim Roxburgh, Dr. H. A. Joungermann, Roy Miller and Roy Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers were elders and deacons of the First Presbyterian church and friends of the family.

Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

Relatives Friends Pay Final Tribute to Samuel Blair

The First Presbyterian church was filled Wednesday afternoon with sorrowing friends of the late Mr. Sam Blair who passed away Tuesday evening at 10 o’clock, and of members of his family, to pay their last tribute of love and respect to his memory.

Among the out-of-town relatives and friends were his sons, Matthew and Roy Blair and Mr. Matthew Blair’s children, Matthew C. Jr., and Anna Marie and Mrs. Glenn Roy Stein of Dallas and his daughter, Mrs. Tobe Gauntt and daughter, Bertie Lou, of Athens, and the following Athens and Trinidad friends; Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Crews, Trinidad; Miss Loye Freeman, Miss Annie Johnson, and Mmes. Bonndr Landman, E. B. Gauntt, Kate Nowlin, Winston Nowlin, W. R. Love, John Dean, H. C. Moseley, J. T. Nelson, Ed Dorbandt, A. S. Ford and I. P. La Rue.

Mr. Blair will be greatly missed by his neighbors, his church and his host of friends, all of whom join in extending sincere sympathy to his bereft loved ones.

Relatives Visiting In Home of the Late Samuel Blair Today

Several relatives of the late Samuel Blair are now visiting in Corsicana. They include a son of the deceased, and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Blair of El Paso, who arrived late Wednesday; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie E. Blair, of Monrue Center, Ill., who arrived Thursday, and a nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim L. Blair and son, John of Rockfort, Ill., who also arrived Thursday.

CORSICANA, Texas. July 27. - Mrs. Mattie Bonner, 64, wife of J. A. Bonner, well-known resident of the Eureka community, died suddenly at the family home in Eureka Wednesday night. Funeral arrangements are being held up pending the arrival of a son, J. L. Bonner, McLaughlin, S.D.

Surviving are her husband; six sons, J. L. Bonner, Corsicana; L. B. Bonner, B. R. Bonner, Fred Bonner and John Bonner, all of the Eureka community; four daughters, Misses Mary Belle Martha, Nettie and Sue Bonner, all of Eureka.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. BONNER BE HELD SATURDAY

PIONEER EUREKA WOMAN DIED AT HOME WEDNESDAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Bonner, 64, wife of J. A. Bonner, well known pioneer of the Eureka community, who died Wednesday night at 9:30 o’clock, will be held at Eureka Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock with interment in the Eureka Cemetery. Mrs. Bonner died suddenly, although she had been in ill health for three years. She was born in Mississippi, but had resided in Texas since a small child. She lived in Freestone county prior to moving to the Eureka community 42 years ago.

The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Simpson, pastor of the Eureka Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Bonner was a member, and Rev. Darwood, Methodist minister, of Eureka.

Surviving are her husband, six sons, J. L. Bonner, Mclaughlin, S. D., who is to arrive late Friday or early Saturday; A. H. Bonner, Corsicana; L. B. Bonner, D. R. Bonner, Fred Bonner and John Bonner, all of Eureka; four daughters, Miss Mary Belle Bonner, Martha Bonner, Nettie Bonner and Sue Bonner, all of the Eureka community; one half-sister, Miss Nettie Barrett, Eureka; one step-sister, Mrs. L. R. Boyd, Teague; one step-brother, W. E. Richards, Philadelphia, Pa.; three uncles, Fred Hill, Sr., and John Hill, both of Fairfield, and Hiram Hill, Dallas.

Active pallbearers will be Gus Young, Dr. T. W. Watson, H. B. Daviss, Sam J. Helm, and J. D. Cunningham, all of Corsicana; and Ed Robinson of Dallas.

The funeral will be directed by the Sutherland Funeral Home of Corsicana.

PIONEER RESIDENT OF EUREKA BURIED THERE SATURDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Bonner, 64, who died Wednesday night, were held from the Eureka Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock with burial in the Eureka cemetery. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Simpson, Presbyterian minister, and Rev. Darwood, Methodist. She was born in Mississippi but had been a resident of Texas since a small child. She has resided in the Eureka vicinity for 42 years.

CORSICANA, Texas. - Mrs. Lila Ellis, 67, native of Navarro County, died in a local hospital Friday night.

Funeral services were held from the McCammon Chapel Sunday. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. She was a lifelong Methodist.

Surviving are a son, Eric A. Ellis, Beaumont; a daughter, Mrs. Travis Brown, Corsicana; a sister, Mrs. Addie Nash, Abilene; a brother, Calvin Wilson, Visalis, Calif.; five grandchildren, and one great-greandchild.

Mrs. Lilla Ellis Expires Friday
Mrs. Lilla Ellis, 67, 724 West Eleventh avenue, died at the Navarro Clinic Friday night.
Funeral services will be held from the McCammon Chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. W. Cecil Taylor, pasotr of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church.
Born  Dec. 25, 1885 at Drane, Mrs. Ellis a life-ling Methodist has spent most of her life in and near Corsicana.
Surviving are a son, Eric A. Ellis, Beaumont; a daughter, Mrs. Travis Brown, Corsicana; a sister, Mrs. Addie Nash, Abilene; a brother, Calvin Wilson, Visalia Calif., three grandsons, two granddaughters, a great-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.

CORSICANA, Texas, April 16. - F. L. Bray, 58, who died at his home at Powell Friday, was buried Sunday at Shiloh, Rusk County, following funeral services there.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD THURSDAY FOR MRS. BELLE BRAY
Funeral service for Mrs. Belle Bray, wife of W. W. Bray, who died Wednesday afternoon at 1 oclock at the family residence, 613 North Beaton Street, following an illness of three weeks, were held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. F. P. Culver, pastor of the First Methodist church.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mary Anna Bray, and mother, Mrs. Annie Clark, Corsicana.
Mrs. Bray had been a resident of Corsicana practically all of her life.

MRS. BELLE BRAY DIED WEDNESDAY; BURIAL THURSDAY

Mrs. Belle Bray, aged about 40 years, wife of W. W. Bray, 631 North Beaton street, died at the family home Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock following an illness of three weeks and the funeral will be held from the residence, Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock with burial in Oakwood cemetery.

The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. F. P. Culver, pastor of the First Methodist church.

Mrs. Bray is a native of Texas and had resided in Corsicana practically all of her life.

Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mary Anna Bray, and mother, Mrs. Annie Clark, Corsicana.

An Old-Time Negro Dead
Corsicana, Tex., Sept. 8. - Richard Bragg, colored, "Uncle Dick," as he was known to everybody in Corsicana, and who was liked and respected by all white people who knew him, is dead, having passed away at his home last night. His funeral took place this afternoon under the auspices of the U. B. of F., of which he was a member, and was largely attended.
Uncle Dick was a negro of the old regime and to see and talk to him was like a visit to scenes of over forty years ago. He, in his last days was loyal to "old marster' and "old missus" and never looked on emancipation as any great boon to him. His ante-bellum condition was good enough for him, but he had no trouble in getting good employment in Corsicana as janitor in a number of business houses. The old negro was a relic of the old south, and the old south he loved far more than he did the south of the latter days. A favorite expression of his was, "De fool niggah uv to-day ain't what de niggah used to be."

Deveny, Sunday, and the body was sent to Waco Monday. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Deveny, Corsicana, and Mrs. C. H. Hall, Chickasha, Ok.; mother, Mrs. M. A. EWING - Corsicana, Tex., Feb. 15 - John Ewing, an old resident of Corsicana, died at 3:30 this morning of yellow jaundice. He has been cared for by the local lodge of Odd Fellows during his illness, and was buried at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon by that order, of which he has been a member for the past twenty years. He leaves no relatives in this county so far as known.

Nov. 5. - Funeral services for Vera Lorene Grimes Evans, 27, killed in an automobile accident near Houston Saturday when three were fatally injured and three hurt, were held here Sunday. Burial was in the Lone Oak Cemetery, near Blooming Grove. Surviving are a daughter, Frankie L. Evans, Corsicana; mother, Mrs. S. L. Monds, Corsicana; five sisters, Mrs. H. O. Franks, Denton; Mrs. F. C. Hyrs, Crosby; Mrs. J. E. Johnson, Houston; Mrs. Maudie Irby, Dayton; and three brothers, M. W. Monds, Houston; Luther Monds, Corsicana, and M. C. Monds, Denton.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CRASH VICTIM HELD HERE SUNDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Lorene Grimes Evans, aged 27 years was killed in an automobile accident Friday morning on the Galveston highway near the city limits of Houston, were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Corley Funeral Chapel here. Interment was in the Lone Oak cemetery near Blooming Grove. The rites were conducted by Rev. C. R. Rhodes.

Three persons were killed and three seriously injured in the crash in which Mrs. Evans was fatally hurt.

Surviving are a daughter, Frankie L. Evans, Corsicana; mother, Mrs. S. L. Monds, Corsicana; five sisters, Mrs. H. O. Franks, Denton; Mrs. F. C. Hyer, Crosby; Mrs. J. T. Johnson, Houston; Mrs. Nora Nickalosel, Houston; and Mrs. Maudine Irby, Dayton; three brothers, M. W. Monds, Houston; Luther Monds, Corsicana, and M. C. Monds, Denton, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Joe Nichalosel, Wilford Irby, Howard Franks, Charles Franks, Clyde Davis and Harril Franks.

Robert Lee Eshleman, 78, resident of Dallas County for the last fifty years, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. A. McAdams, at Corsicana. The Eshleman family is one of the oldest in the southwestern part of the county.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. McAdams and Mrs. E. A.
Houser; two sons, E. D. Eshleman and H. T. Eshleman; two brothers, T. S.
Eshleman and A. E. Eshleman; sister, Mrs. Ida Grigsby; six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the McKamy-Campbell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leo Johnston, pastor of the Oak Cliff Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Daniels Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be W. R. Ellis, King Ellis, D. A. Beazley, King Lavender, H. G. Floyd, and Frank Hood.

Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Katie Beasley, Corbet, and Mrs. Annie Massey, Fabens; four sons, C. M. Eppler, Rice; and J. B. Eppler, Corbet; a brother, E. H. Cox, Round Rock; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Pannell, Vance; twenty grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

MRS. SARAH EPPLER DIED ON THURSDAY; BURIAL ZION’S REST

Mrs. Sarah Eppler, aged 84 years died at Corbet, Thursday afternoon. She was a native of Mississippi.

Funeral rites were held Friday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the Corley Chapel. Burial was in the Zion’s Rest cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Jack Goff, pastor of the Northside Baptist church, and the Rev. Mr. Fisher, Purdon Baptist minister.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Katie Beazley, Corbet, and Mrs. Annie Massey, Fabens; four sons, C. M. Eppler, Rice; t. M. Eppler, Malakoff; A. E. Eppler, Alma, and J. B. Eppler, Corbet; a brother, E. H. Cox, Round Rock; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Pannell, Vance; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

CORSICANA, Texas, April 15. - A. M. Emmert, 72, died at his home in Rice early Monday.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. J. L. Sain and Mrs. Bill Menton, both of Ennis; Mrs. E. A. Riggins of Alma, Mrs. C. F. Wilson of Dallas and Miss Irene Emmert of Rice; five sons, Joe Henry Emmert and Richard Emmert, both in the United States Army at San Antonio; Hugh Edwind Emmert, Eldon Emmert and A. M. Funeral services for A. M. Emmert, 72, who died at his home in Rice Monday morning, will be held from the Rice Baptist church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Rice cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Jack Bell and Rev. Jimmy Jones.

J. E. Emmons, Enthusiast Of Baseball, Dies at Age 52

James E. Emmons, 52, Dallas baseball enthusiast for years, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home, 412 South Bishop.

Born in Corsicana, Emmons had been a Dallas resident for twenty years.
While in Dallas he was employed by the Wyatt Metal and Boiler Works, and at the time of his death was a foreman.

Before moving to Dallas, Emmons played professional baseball in North Carolina. He had managed amateur teams at Reverchon Park ten years ago, and then became an umpire. Emmons, who acquired the nickname Lefty, was a member of the Umpires Association, had umpired amateur games in Dallas for ten years.

Emmons was also interested in Little League baseball in Dallas, and at the time of his death, he was manager of the Westcliff Cub Little League team.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lamar & Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 West Jefferson. The Rev. Dean Harrison will officiate, and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. W. V. Bentey Jr. of Dallas, his mother, Mrs. Dora Emmons of Corsicana; a brother, Harry Emmons of Corsicana, and two sisters, Mrs. Adine Sikes and Miss Kossie Emmons, both of Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Wiley Roberts, Elmer Minter, C. W. Taft, J. W. McCown, Larry Grounds, Jack Matthews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Westcliff Cub Little League Baseball Team.

ELMICK - Corsicana, Texas, March 11. - Mrs. Mattie Elmick, 55, long-time resident of Navarro County, died at her home in Jacksonville Wednesday. Mrs. Elmick was reared in the Blooming Grove vicinity and lived in Corsicana for a number of years prior to moving to Jacksonville. Surviving are her husband, G. R. Elmick, Jacksonville; mother, Mrs. Sarah D. Carr, Corsicana; two brothers, W. F. Carr and J. M. Carr, and a sister, Mrs. E. B. Grimes, all of Corsicana.

FORMER RESIDENT OF NAVARRO COUNTY DIES JACKSONVILLE

Mrs. Mattie Elmick, aged 55, years, long-time resident of Navarro county, died at her home in Jacksonville Tuesday. Funeral rites were held at Jacksonville Wednesday where interment was made.

Mrs. Elmick was reared in the Blooming Grove vicinity and resided in Corsicana for a number of years prior to moving to Jacksonville.

Surviving are her husband, G. R. Elmick, Jacksonville; mother, Mrs. Sarah D. Carr, Corsicana; two brothers, W. F. Carr and J. M. Carr, and a sister, Mrs. E. B. Grimes, all of Corsicana.

Mrs. Elmick had been ill for some time, but her death was unexpected.

Sarah Kate (Decherd) McClure

Sarah Kate McClure, resident of Jourdanton, entered into rest Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the age of 90. Sarah was born to Walter H. Decherd and Anna Leoda Helgenstein Decherd on February 16, 1915, in Corsicana, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 P.M. Ronald O’Neal Thomas

Ronald O’Neal Thomas, 44, of Houston and formerly of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2105 E. Jones Ave., Corsicana, with Elder Vernon Jessie officiating.

Pallbearers will be Gaylan Thomas, Cecil Thomas, Terry Thomas, Craig Thomas, Kevin Coleman and Freddie Coleman.

Mr. Thomas was born July 5, 1961, in Corsicana. He received his formal education in the Corsicana Independent School District. Upon graduation, he pursued a job in printing and worked at Falcon Printing in Corsicana. He later worked in San Antonio and Houston as a printer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy O’Neal Thomas.

Survivors include his father, Bennie Thomas (Myra) of Corsicana; three daughters, Desiree Thomas of New Orleans, La., Tyesha Ingram of Houston and Ykesha Ingram of Garland; a stepdaughter, Nicky Lockhart of Houston; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Bennie Harold Thomas and Donald Thomas (Sandra), all of Corsicana, and Ramon Thomas (Adrian) of Frisco; sister, Linda Buffin (Eddie) of Cerritos, Calif.; two aunts, Shirley Ware and Bert Haggerty, both of Corsicana; and nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.

Stella Mae ‘Nannie’ Goodman

Stella Mae “Nannie” Goodman, 95, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Navarro Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Mike Jennings, Johnny Robinson, Gary Don Jennings, Conner Jennings, Benny Lambert and Nathan Benfield.

Mrs. Goodman was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Mangram, Okla. She and her husband, Herman L. Goodman, owned and operated two restaurants in their early years. Later she and her husband owned and operated Goodman Tire Shop for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Franklin Beamon and Martelia Cambell Beamon; brothers and sisters, Lavina Elizabeth Conner, Benjamin Harrison Beamon, John Melvin Beamon, Lyddie Jane Allred, Jessie Blair Beamon, Odie Lee Beamon, Mary Adeline Conner, Ema Ada Cooley, Otno Cambell Beamon; first husband, Chester Elmer Marr; second husband and soul mate, Herman L. Goodman; daughter, Delorise Maxine Marr Farmer; and stepson, Billy Ray Goodman.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Jerry E. “J.E.” Farmer of Corsicana; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Goodman of Dallas; grandson, Dale Farmer; granddaughter, Karen Sue Farmer and James Almond of Corsicana; great-granddaughters, Crystal Marie Farmer and Shelley Karise Almond; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.
God blessed us all with the life of Stella Goodman. She had 95 years on this earth, and every year was cherished by her and the people she touched. She had a good heart and lived her life by the Lord.

Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Armstrong, aged 69 years, widow of the late T. S. Armstrong, died Sunday morning in Dallas. The funeral rites were held from the First Methodist church here Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock with interment in Oakwood cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Angie Smith, Methodist minister of Dallas.

Surviving are a son, J. E. Armstrong, Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. W. T. McCulloch, Dallas; a brother E. L. Armstrong, Hebronville; three sisters, Mrs. George T. Whytte, Corsicana; Mrs. A. A. Corsicana, Tex. Feb. 5. - At 6 o'clock this morning F. W. Bauldorf, aged 84 years, died at his home in this city, and will be buried in the Catholic cemetery tomorrow morning from the Catholic Church.
The deceased was an old citizen of this county, having resided here since 1872. He was a native of Austria, having been born in the city of Vienna in 1816, but came to the United States when quite young. He was a veteran of three wars and served under two flags, the Stars and Stripes of the United States and under the Stars and Bars of the Confederacy. In the Indian war in Florida he served throughout that trouble, and in the war between the United States and Mexico he followed the flag of his adopted country into the City of Mexico. When the Civil War broke out he was living in Atlanta, Ga. And was one of the first men in that city to enlist under the flag of the Confederacy. He leaves four children as follows: Mrs. George Barth, Miss Lizzie Bauldorf and Charles Bauldorf of this city, and Frank Bauldorf of Bentonville, Ark.

CORSICANA, Texas, May 27. - R. K. Blackshear, 53, died suddenly from a heart attack at his home here Monday.
Mr. Blackshear was one of the men who owned and drilled the discovery well in the Corsicana-Powell oil field which came in Jan. 8, 1923, opening the deep oil field here.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Miss Louise, Miss Elizabeth and Miss Mary Blackshear; a son, Bob, all of Corsicana, and a brother, Joe Blackshear of Wichita Falls.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon from the home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. F. P. Culver, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services.

R. K. BLACKSHEAR DIED SUDDENLY AT HOME HERE MONDAY

ONE OF DRILLERS OF DISCOVERY WELL IN CORSICANA –POWELL FIELD

R. K. Blackshear, 53, native Texas, and well-known resident of Corsicana for many years, formerly engaged in the oil and insurance business, died at his home 1404 W. Fourth avenue Monday morning at 9 o’clock after only a few minutes illness with a heart attack. He had arisen Monday morning and dressed, preparatory to coming down town when he was stricken, dying a few moments later. He was born near Palestine, Anderson county, but had been in Corsicana for a number of years.

He was one of the owners and drillers of the “Discovery well” in the Corsicana-Powell deep oil field which came in in Jan. 8, 1933, and opened the field. He was in the insurance business for a number of years and at the time of his death, was the representative of a clothing concern. He was identified with a paint manufacturing company here several years ago.

Surviving are his wife, four children, Miss Louise Blackshear, Miss Elizabeth Blackshear, Bob Blackshear and Miss Mary Blackshear, all of Corsicana; one brother, Joe Blackshear, Wichita Falls, and other relatives.

Mr. Blackshear was a member of the First Methodist church here.

The funeral will be under the direction of the Sutherland Funeral Home.

Mr. Blackshear was a soldier in the Third Infantry, U. S. Army and saw service in the Philippines.

The funeral will be held from the family residence, Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. F. P. Culver, pastor of the First Methodist church.

Miss Elizabeth Blackshear, student in C. I. A., Denton, arrived Monday afternoon and a cousin of Mr. Blackshear, Mrs. Zuletha Hicks of Dallas, came here Monday afternoon to attend the funeral.

Mrs. Birdwell was a native Texan and resided in and near Corsicana for seventy-five years.

FUNERAL RITES FOR T. E. BOSTICK HELD WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for T. E. Bostick, 27, who died Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock following a short illness with pneumonia, were held from the residence of his mother, Mrs. Rosa Lee Bostick, 514 North Commerce street, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with burial in the Hamilton cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. J. F. Adams, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church.
Prior to moving in Corsicana several months ago, Bostick resided in Shreveport, La.
Surviving are his wife, mother, two brothers, J. A. and Henry Bostick; both of Corsicana, and other relatives.

Mr. Burleson was born June 15, 1959 in Dallas.

Gladys Quinn

Services for Gladys Quinn, 88, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Paschal Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Hayes officiating. Interment followed at Athens Cemetery.

Mrs. Quinn was born Feb. 22, 1917 in Paducah, Texas. She died July 23, 2005 in Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana.

Mrs. Quinn was retired from the Athens Cleaners and was a 30-year resident of Athens before moving to Kerens.

Survivors include daughters, Judy Poston and Ora Lee Richardson, both of Kerens, Rita Hanks of Mississippi and Jane Dunklin of Lubbock; sisters, Naomi Cox of Lubbock and Pearline Carpenter of Mesquite, Texas; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Bobby Gene Hollingsworth, 75, of Blooming Grove died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Blooming Grove United Methodist Church with Jonathan Speegle officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 25, 1930, to Earl “Shorty” and Bonnie Smith Hollingsworth in Purdon and was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Paul Gary Hollingsworth.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Moore Hollingsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jeff Jenkins; grandchildren, Mandy, Cody and Amy Jenkins, all of Blooming Grove; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Clara Hollingsworth of Midlothian; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Blooming Grove High School, and he attended Navarro College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Procter and Gamble, Dallas, after 37 years of service.

Gene was the current mayor of Blooming Grove, and he was active in Blooming Grove United Methodist Church and formerly at First United Methodist Church in Lancaster. He was an active member of the Blooming Grove Lions Club, Ex-Students Association and Historical Society.

Ervin Kelley, age 99, a resident of Italy, passed away early Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. He was born Aug. 11, 1905, in Hill County to W. Oscar and Etta (McCraken) Kelley. Ervin married Joy Malone on March 28, 1926. He farmed in Ellis County for over 50 years and was a member of the Italy Church of Christ. Ervin was always there to bring a chocolate or coconut pie and took bananas every week for 10 years to the Italy Nursing Home. He was an avid domino player.

Survivors include one daughter, Bobbie J. Davis and her husband Killian, and daughter-in-law, Louise Kelley, all of Italy; three grandchildren, Cherrie Scott of Italy, Teresa Petty of Maypearl and Cherilyn Davis of Italy; six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Kelley of California, Odell Kelley of Italy and Woodrow Kelley of Alvarado; sisters, Lometa Raley of Corsicana, Dorothy Ragland of California and Betty Ruth McGar of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ervin was preceded in death by his son, J. E. Kelley Jr. in 1983, and his wife of 76 years, Joy Kelley in 2003; brothers, Oscar, Enoch and Alton Kelley; and sisters, Etta Mae Yeamen and Myrtle Raley.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel in Italy. Interment will follow at the Frost Cemetery in Frost.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend went to be with her Lord at Navarro Regional Hospital on July 25, 2005, with her family at her side. Born to Richard and Christiana Utley Ratcliffe on Nov. 11, 1906, in Hardin, N.Y., Maisie would have celebrated her 99th birthday this year.

Maisie and her mother moved to Oklahoma after her father’s death in 1919, where she graduated from Horace Mann High School in Ada, Okla., at 16 years of age. Later she received a B.S. degree from East Central State University in Ada, where she taught school for 15 years. Her master’s degree was from Sul Ross University in Alpine. She married S. M. Morphew in 1926. Maisie was a loving and caring Christian woman who held her family together through tough times.

A lifelong educator, she taught for 38 years at various positions in Oklahoma and Kermit, where she held many offices. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over 50 years and a life member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She attended First United Methodist Church in Corsicana, where she was a 72-year member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Active in the community, Maisie was a member of Kinsloe House and her beloved bridge club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years; and seven siblings, Etta Shields, Ida Sledd, Elzy Ratcliffe, Opal Shields, Van Ratcliffe, Bonnie Ratcliffe and Manie Holland. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Cocanower of Fort Worth, Rosemary Acree of Corsicana and Jane Mayfield and husband Wayne of Diamondhead, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Kent Rogers, Lois McGaugh, Jimmie Childers, the staff at Heritage Oaks and special friend Lynn Murchison.

Susie Belle Moseley of Prairie Village, Kan., originally from Blooming Grove and Milford, died July 25, 2005, in Pelham, N.Y., while visiting her children. Susie Bell Moseley was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Blooming Grove, the daughter of Worth Darrow Moseley and Clemie Frederick Moseley of Milford. She was named for her grandmother, Susie Belle Moseley, daughter of
William Worth Darrow and Anne McCain. She grew up in Blooming Grove and Milford, where she was a member of Presbyterian Church of Milford. She married Capt. Harry Silverglat of the Army Air Corps in Weatherford on Nov. 10, 1941, and moved to Dallas, where she lived until 1961 when she moved to Prairie Village, Kan. In Dallas and Kansas, she was an accomplished decorator and artist though she had no formal training in either. She later attended Johnson County Junior College in Kansas in study art.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971. She is survived by five children, Dr. Michael Silverglat of Missoula, Mont., Susan Paddock of Gettysburg, Pa., Philip Darrow of Verona, N.J., Roger Silverglat of McKinney and Harry Darrow of Pelham, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be privately held in Pelham, N.Y. Cards may be sent to the family at 36 Clifford Ave., Pelham, N.Y. 10803. The family requests no flowers.

LITTLE GIRL DIED IN LOCAL HOSPITAL; BURIED ON SUNDAY

Martha Jo Evins, 2 years, 9 months, 17 days old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Evins, 315 East Tenth avenue, died in the P. & S. Hospital Saturday afternoon at 4:15 o’clock and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Eleventh Avenue Baptist church with burial in the Hamilton cemetery.

Surviving are the parents, a brother, James Paul Evins, and two sisters, Mildred Nell and Bettie Ruth Evins, all of Corsicana.

MAN SHOT DURING LIQUOR RAID DIES IN CORSICANA
N. M. Earp, 23 years old, who was shot at Tuckertown, a few nights ago during a liquor raid by officers, died at the County Hospital at 9 o'clock Friday morning. The body will be sent to Gilmer, where funeral services will be held, with burial some time Saturday. Earp is survived by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Earp; four sisters and one small brother. The entire family live in Upshur County.

Mrs. Early was Miss Polk. She grew up in Corsicana. She was a highly esteemed lady and had been married to Mr. Early two years. Mrs. Early occupied a high social standing in Waco, being prominent in several woman's clubs.

Edison Eddins Slain at Richland, Navarro County, in Night, Knife Being Weapon Used

Corsicana. Tex., Dec. 3. - This morning about 6:30 o'clock the lifeless body of Edison Eddins, attired only in night clothing, was found in the A. A. Allison store at Richland in this, Navarro County. There was a knife wound extending to the heart and a long, deep slash across the stomach. Either of these wounds would have caused death.
Eddins was employed by Allison and slept at the store. When another clerk went to the store this morning to relieve Eddins that he might go to breakfast, he found the doors locked. On entering he discovered the body near the door. A window with sash raised in the rear of the building indicated that the perpetrator of the deed had entered and made his exit that way.
An overturned stove and other disarranged articles were evidence that there had been a terrible struggle.
Eddins was about 23 years old. He was last seen alive after he had left the home of a young lady upon whom he had called. He was highly respected and his employer today spoke of him in words of highest praise.
So far no arrests have been made and the case is shrouded in mystery.
Eddins' parents reside near Groesbeck.

Corsicana. Tex., Dec. 4. - The passing of another day has failed to bring a solution to the killing of Edison Eddins Tuesday night at Richland, in the store in which he was clerking. Officers are diligently working on the case, and today a party was held here for some time by officers, but was finally released. The officers declare they are at sea, and practically without a clew.
Eddins' body was taken to Groesbeck last night for burial.

CORSICANA, Texas, Aug 28. - Marie Elliott, 14-year-old daughter of Mrs. Julia Elliott of Navarro, who received severe injuries about ten days ago when she was dragged through a barbed-wire fence by a horse, died in the Navarro County Hospital Wednesday morning and the funeral will be held at Navarro Thursday afternoon with burial in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Her right leg was practically severed and the right ankle was cut.
Severe injuries were received on the head and the young girl was unconscious for some time after the accident.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Julia Elliott, Navarro; father, J. W. Elliott, Wink; two brothers and two sisters.

GIRL VICTIM OF ACCIDENT BURIED HOPEWELL CEMETERY

Funeral services for Marie Elliott, 14, who died in the county hospital Wednesday morning from injuries received several days ago when dragged through a barbed wire fence by a frightened horse near Navarro, were held from the church of the Immaculate Conception Friday morning at 10 o’clock with interment in the Hopewell Cemetery.

Surviving are her father, J. W. Elliott, Wink; mother, Mrs. Julia Elliott, Navarro; two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Edens was well known in Blooming Grove, and was a teacher here before her marriage. She has many friends here that deeply regret to hear of her death.

Funeral services will be held of T/Sgt. Wilson Edmondson at 2 p.m. Monday at the Geo. A. Brewer Funeral Chapel, 3603 Ross. The Rev. J. Howard Smith will officiate and will be assisted by a chaplain from Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Edmondson, 39, was killed with thirty-six others in an airplane crash Nov. 13, 1951, near Mount Dore, France. He was on his way to Bordeaux, France, as an inspector of maintenance and motor pools. He had volunteered to replace another soldier whose child was sick. He was born Nov. 25, 1912, near Corsicana. He came to Dallas almost twenty years ago. He worked as a mechanic at East Texas Motor Freight Lines here before entering the Army for three and a half years during World War II. He received three battle stars while serving with the 44th Division. He was separated from the Army in October, 1945. After working at the trucking company here following his discharge he enlisted in the Air Force in June, 1946, and served one year in Amarillo and three years at Lowry Field No. 1 near Denver, Colo., before going overseas in June, 1950. His home base was Wiesbaden, Germany, at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Mrs. Herman Grimes, Houston; Mrs. R. J. Densmore and Mrs. George Claussen, both of Dallas; six brothers, Woodrow Edmondson, Amarillo; Gene Edmondson, Wichita Falls; Clyde Edmondson, Henry Edmondson, Richard Edmondson and Horace Edmondson, all of Dallas, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Edmondson of Dallas.
