Dresden Funeral For Mrs. Mary Blake
Funeral for Mrs. R. K. Blake of Houston was held at 2 PM Thursday of last
week in Dresden United Methodist Church, with interment in Dresden Cemetery.
Rev. James J. Peppers, church pastor, conducted the funeral and the church
choir, accompanied by pianist Mrs. R. Bruce McCormick, sang Mrs. Blake's
favorite hymns. Her grandsons served as Casket Bearers.
Mrs. Blake was born in South Carolina in 1891 and lived in the Dresden
community for many years, moving to Houston 14 years ago. At the time of her
death she was visiting in the Dresden home of her daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. & Mrs. W. A. Haden. She died unexpectedly just after midnight Tuesday of
last week.
Mrs. Blake is survived by two sons, W. C. Blake & J. D. Blake, both of
Houston; six daughters, Mrs. Haden, Mrs. B. L. English of Frost, Mrs.
S. L. Wilson, Mrs. J.C. Brown & Mrs. N.M. Anderson, all of Houston, Mrs.
V.V. Brinson of Caldwell; 29 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; two
brothers, Banks Henson & J. T. Dixon, both of South Carolina.

Tell Woodall Rites Wednesday
Funeral services for E. T. (Tell) Woodall, 51, were held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Brushie Prairie Methodist church. Burial was in the Dresden Cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. E. D. Wilson and Rev. W. M. Greenwaldt, Methodist ministers. Graveside rites were conducted by the Masonic lodge.
Woodall died at his home in the Navarro Mills community Monday night of a heart attack.
Surviving are his wife of Navarro Mills; a son, Wendell Woodall, Corsicana: mother, Mrs. W. R. Woodall, Navarro Mils; a brother, W. E. Woodall, Purdon; a sister. Mrs.. Faye Hardman Tyler, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Lee Putman, Alvis Putman, Cecil Putman, Rufus Putman, Bill Key and Rex French.

 Betty Marie (Humphries) Parks, 84, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6,
2005, at Heritage Oaks West.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Summerall, Hartley Young, Sam Humphries, Homer Dee Humphries, Greg Cairns, Lance Parks, Scott Parks and Rick Spinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Wally Pugh, Mike Hestand, Gilbert Hall and Scott Summerall.
Mrs. Parks was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Corsicana to William Crane and Jessie Ophelia Edgar Humphries. She was a secretary at Collins Middle School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Douglas Parks.
Survivors include her husband, James Harris Parks of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Parks of Corsicana; two grandchildren, Michael Parks and Lindsey McCaleb; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kylie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

John Carroll Barton, 90, of Denton and formerly a longtime resident of Rice, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery.
Mr. Barton was born April 24, 1915, in Shields to James Watson Barton and Lou Elna Seagler Barton. He graduated from A&M University with a degree in entomology and taught World War II veterans agriculture practices. He was a county agent and a longtime farmer and rancher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norlaine Barton.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

 Freda Jo McGaha, 78, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, surrounded by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grififn-Roughton Chapel with Rufus Nutt and Pastor Rick Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Nelson, Mark Nanny, Lamoin Lawhon, Al Fisher, Herman Baldwin and Chris Callaway. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Sheppard and Don Sheppard.
Freda was born July 1, 1927, in Irene. She was a lover of people and civic duty, starting as far back as 1945 when she was elected a representative of the Democratic Party to lobby in Washington, D.C., to raise minimum wage to 75 cents an hour. She retired after 25 years from Corsicana Nursing Home as social activity director and a lifetime of volunteer work at church, Pioneer Village and Navarro County Food Pantry. Her first love was studying and teaching the Bible to others and making a joyful “noise” to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, R. S. “Mac” McGaha; mother and dad, Clyde and Rose Dale; and stepdaughter, Barbara Smith.
Survivors include three children, Tonja Barnebee and husband Tim and Tracy McGaha and wife Betty, all of Corsicana, and Ronnie McGaha and wife Sherra of Pottsboro; brother, Shep Dale and wife Dodie; sister, Nell Thomerson and husband Tommy; grandchildren, Aundria Barnebee, Amanda Callaway, Rebekah McGaha, Sara Barnebee and Ryan William McGaha; several loving nieces and nephews; step son-in-law, Bill Smith; and step granddaughter, Robin Berger and husband Mike.

Julia 'Jackie' Colleen Cupps
Julia “Jackie” Colleen Cupps passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005. She was born in Kenard, Ohio, on Dec. 2, 1935, to Everett and Grace Humphrey. She grew up in Ohio and graduated high school at West Liberty-Salem High School. Julia “Jackie” married her beloved husband Paul in 1955 and moved to Texas in 1957 where they lived until they returned to Ohio in 1965. In 1978 they moved back to Texas and have been there since. Julia spent most of her life as a homemaker. She loved to sing, cook and have a good time dancing. She is survived by her husband Paul, son
Mike and fiancé Vicki; grandchildren, Christina and Jimmy Willingham; and great-grandchildren, Stephanie Willingham and Christopher Degrate. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Restland Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, prior to service at Restland Funeral Home.

She was born March 1, 1921, in Easterly to Hallie and Hettie (Kilgore) Goodwin. She lived most of her life in Houston. For 10 years she lived in Corrigan and lived in Kerens the past 15 years. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Leymone Monroe Ponder on Dec. 11, 2003, and James Lewis Ponder in 1994.
Survivors include four children, Mike Ponder of Votaw, Shirley Ponder of Kerens, and Ima Jean Colvin and Gwendolynn Roberts, both of Houston; 16 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was born March 13, 1919 in Dawson to William Henry and Annie Laura (Lawrence) Pitts. She was raised in Dawson and was a graduate of Dawson High School. Dorothy lived in San Diego, Calif. for over 25 years, where she worked as a PBX receptionist. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dawson, Chapter 1046 of the Order of Eastern Star, the Dawson Historical Society and the Dawson Ex-Students Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell J. Holladay in 1999 and by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include brothers-in-law Don Holladay and wife Glenna of Everman and Bill Holladay and wife Faye of Hobbs, N.M.; sisters-in-law Dorothy L. Holladay of Corsicana, Susie Goodman and husband Jay of Stamford, Mary Adams and husband Don of Tatum, N.M. and Jo Ethel Holland of Hemett, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Monte Joe ‘Mojo’ Marlow
Monte Joe “Mojo” Marlow, age 43, was found deceased in his home Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005. He died of natural causes due to heart disease. He was the son of Jetta and Larry McClure and the late Cloyce Marlow. Monte was born Dec. 12, 1961, in Chillicothe, but throughout his life he had lived in Denton, Little Elm, Lewisville and Vernon. Most recently he had lived in Corsicana approximately 11 years. He had been a “grill technician” for Waffle House Inc. since his sophomore year in high school. He was a graduate of Lewisville High School and attended Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch. While a resident of Vernon, he was employed by Golden Corral and worked on the construction of the WTU Power Plant. Monte’s family includes Jetta and Larry of Vernon; one brother, Mickey Marlow, Tammy, Brianna and Camber of Wichita Falls, Cathy, Cory and Baylee of Gulfport, Miss; his grandparents, Johnnye Fugitt of Merrill Gardens in Vernon, the late Bill Fugitt, formerly of Chillicothe, the late Oscar and Margie Marlow of Crowell; his longtime companion, Trish Maurer of Corsicana and her family, Reva, Rachael, Tommy, Serina, Emily, Dee, Josh and the late Homer; uncles, Bill Marlow and Myrna of Crowell, Jim Marlow and Annie of Granite Shoals; late uncles, Clinton “Scott” Marlow, Keith “Butch” Marlow and Ricky Fugitt; late aunts, Hazel Rae Collins, Letha Carroll, Bernell Marlow, Ginger Kester and Christy Rainey; several cousins, Gen, Sara Beth and the late Joe Ray, Marsha and Charles, Dean and Lisa, Darrell and Jannie and the late Dale, Howard Ray and Debra, Rocky and Katy, Remelle, Calena, Dewayne and Stella, Bryan, and Cody, Cassie, and the late Kiz; many, many friends and his Waffle House families in Lewisville and Corsicana. William Eugene Berry, 76, of Dawson passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Dawson with the Rev. Mr. Berry was born Jan. 25, 1929, near Dresden to Edward and Verna (Currington) Berry. He worked as a PBX repairman for Southwestern Bell in Mesquite for 45 years before retiring in 1993 when he and his wife moved to Dawson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dawson and enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Wanda Ruth Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Berry of Dawson; son, Joel Berry of Rifle, Colo.; two daughters, Charlotte Berry of Garland and Paula Castle and husband Phil of Mesquite; four grandsons, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Joe Beauchamp Robinson

Joe B. Robinson was a retired farmer and rancher and lived in the Tueplo-Chatfield area his entire life. He had also owned and operated a Texaco Service Station on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 15th Street in Corsicana during the 1950's, and later owned a successful gravel trucking business for a number of years.
He was also a decorated veteran of World War II, volunteering for the U.S. Army in June of 1941 before the war began. He was a combat infantryman in General George S. Patton's original 2nd Armored Division that trained for desert warfare in California's Mojave Desert before the war began with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Faced with the realization that the war would likely take him overseas, he and his sweetheart, Zula Hill of the Emhouse community, were married at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas in March, 1942. Due to a medical quarantine imposed on the base at the time their marriage ceremony was conducted by an Army chaplain in the gateguard station, with no honeymoon permitted until several weeks later.
Cpl. Robinson shipped out with one of the first deployments of U.S. forces sent to North Africa in November, 1942 as part of Operation Torch, crossing the Atlantic in a troopship convey that suffered numerous attacks by German U-Boat submarines. His unit, the 91st Reconnaissance Squadron, which was now attached to the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, disembarked at the port of Casablanca on Christmas Eve, 1942, and served as part of the honor guard for the Casablanca Conference of President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill in January, 1943.
Following this his unit moved through French Morocco and Algeria in February, 1943 to confront the German Panzers commanded General Rommel in Tunisia, where the 91st Recon became part of the Allied counter-attack following the defeat at Kasserine Pass. Cpl. Robinson remained in constant combat for the next four months, and participated in the conquest of the Mateur and Bizerte strongholds in early-May, 1943.
Just days before the German surrender in Tunis Cpl. Robinson was wounded while on a reconnaissance patrol behind enemy lines. He was one of only two survivors of his 12-man patrol that was ambushed while crossing a clearing, and caught in a cross-fire at point-blank range by two machine gun nests as well as small-arms fire from a company of German soldiers.
Despite suffering a severe head wound Cpl. Robinson fought his way out of the ambush, knocking out both machine guns with hand grenades as well as killing a number of the German soldiers with his automatic weapons fire when they rushed him. He eventually made his way back to where he was spotted by a U.S. forward artillery observer and a rescue party brought him through the American lines. For his heroic actions during this engagement Cpl. Robinson was nominated for the Silver Star by his company commander, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his wounds during combat.
Cpl. Robinson was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds to his scalp and suffered double-vision from a concussion resulting from to a German bullet that had penetrated the top of his helmet during the ambush. While in a British Hospital in Algiers Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall selected Cpl. Robinson and another "walking wounded" GI to accompany him back to Washington D.C. aboard his DC-3 aircraft. After several months in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington Cpl. Robinson was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and returned to civilian life in Texas.

services for Whelyn G. Robinson, 71, of Douglass, will be at the
A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto. Burial will
follow in the Old Palestine Cemetery near Alto.
Mr. Robinson passed away Saturday near Mt. Enterprise. He was
born July 21, 1944 in Corsicana to
Joe B. and Zula Hill Robinson.
Mr. Robinson had lived in the Douglass, Nacogdoches and Lufkin
area for the last 20 years. He was a member of the A. Frank
Smith Methodist Church in Alto, and was retired from the phone
company where he had started as a linesman and worked his way up
to telecommunications engineer. He had also lived in Athens for
a number of years and had been a Deacon at the Eastern Hills
Church of Christ, past president of the Kiwanis Club and a
member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Robinson was very proud to have been in the Corps of Cadets
at Texas A&M, Class of 1966. He completed his undergraduate and
graduate work at the University of Texas at Tyler where he
finished his education with a Master's of Science degree. He
also loved reading, and was a history buff, especially
interested in the Civil War.
Mr. Robinson was incredibly proud of his children and
grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Robinson was happily married for 23 years to his wife, Janis
Robinson, who survives him. Other survivors include daughters
and son-in-law, Kelly Herriage (Roland), Shara Blankenship
(Jess); sons and daughter-in-law, Kyle Robinson (Lisa), Paul
Sandness; brother and sister-in-law, Dale Robinson (Dorothy);
grandchildren, Ryan Herriage, Kyson Herriage, Taylor Robinson,
Haley Robinson, Katelyn Robinson, Garrett Robinson, Mason Reeves
and Olivia Blankenship.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in St. Elmo.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mrs. Fannin was born Oct. 9, 1908, in St. Elmo to Braxton Blair Broun and Willie Mae Whitehurst. She was a homemaker and a member of Providence Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Maurice Fannin in 1979; son, John Fannin in 1989; daughter, Thelma Jo Johnson in 1990; and sons-in-law, Andrew Johnson in 1992 and Vernon Carpenter in 2003.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Wanda Fannin of Crawford; daughters and sons-in-law, Nettie Mae and Hugh Montgomery of Lampasas, Martha Lee Carpenter of Corsicana, and Virginia and Marion Herring of Mexia; daughter-in-law, Barbara Fannin of Austin; and 29 grandchildren.

He was reared in Mabank where he attended school. On Feb. 14, 1992 he was married to Melissa Shebesta. After their marriage they lived in Bardwell. He was employe4d by Tyler Refrigeration for 20 years as an assembler. He enjoyed life, loved motorcycling, music and having a good time. He is survived by his wife, Melissa, of Ennis; a daughter and her husband, Racheal and Nathan Strange of Mabank; a step-son, C.J. Cruz; two brothers, Michael Gurley and Greg Lobban; two sisters, Kelly Collins and Shannon Waitman; and one grandson, Wade Strange. Bill D. Dempsey, 68, of Memphis, Tenn. formerly of Corsicana passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
He was a senior bank consultant and director of consulting services for First American Monetary Consultants Inc. He attended Germantown Baptist Church and Faith Bridge Christian Fellowship, was very involved in building churches for the Navaho Valley in New Mexico and was an avid tennis player.
Mr. Dempsey is survived by his wife, Angelyn Dempsey; daughter, and son-in-law, Diana and Brad Farmer of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Sherri Dempsey of Valley View; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Diana and David Hopkins of Coppell; grand-son and grand-daughter-in-law, Tony and Stephanie Farmer of Corsicana; step grandchildren, Victoria and Rebecca Hopkins of Coppell; great grandchildren, Blake and Cody Farmer of Corsicana.

Funeral services for Etta “Meme” Gorman Hawkins Crocker, 97 of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Perry Eaton officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Memorial Park. She passed away Wednesday morning in Athens.
Mrs. Crocker was born on Aug. 5, 1908 in Coolidge to her parents, Albert and Laura Bryant Gorman. She was reared in the Delia Community and attended schools there. She had resided in Hubbard, Blooming Grove and Corsicana. In 1991 she moved to Athens to be near her family.
Mrs. Crocker was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James O. “Jim” Hawkins and Clyde Crocker, all 10 of her siblings and a daughter-in-law, Ann Hawkins.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jay Benson of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Kay Hawkins of Dangerfield, Lynn and Hawn Hawkins of Kona, Hawaii; grandchildren, Randy Hill, Ricky Hill, Buffy Benson, Debbie Lyons, Steve Hawkins, Beth Coe, Melissa Epps, Denise Bruner and Darrell Hawkins; 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Boulware is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Lee Boulware of Corsicana; sons Michael Lee and Brenda Boulware of Mildred, Ricky Lynn and Terry Boulware of Emhouse, and Jeffery Leland Boulware of Corsicana; grandchildren Shade Boulware of Emhouse and Ericka Boulware of Huntsville; sister and brother-in-law Beatrice and Howard Freeman of Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Boulware was a member of Community Chapel Church in Corsicana. The Rev. Lonnie Keele will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Shade Boulware, Marvin Young, J. D. Young, Kenneth Young, Elmer Rudolph and Jimmy Abbie.

Mr. Boulware was a very good father and loving husband. He was a strong Christian, devoted to the Lord and his family. Willy will be greatly missed. We have lost a wonderful friend but heaven has gained another angel.

Vera (Way) Brooks, 93, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lain Teel officiating. Interment will follow at Pattison Cemetery.
Mrs. Brooks was born Aug. 31, 1912 at her parent’s farm near Emhouse, where she graduated from high school. Most of her life was spent in Corsicana, where she was employed at various local businesses. First at Golden Brothers Clothing Store for a short while, followed by several years at K. Wolens Department Store. In the 1950s she went to work for Sears in Corsicana, later transferring to their store in Orange. Following her retirement from Sears in Orange, she moved back to Corsicana, where she became an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She managed the nursery at Emmanuel until well into her 80s. Vera was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years. For many years prior to moving to Heritage Oaks, Vera lived on Park Row in Corsicana, taking great pride in maintaining her there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward M. and Effie (Reid) Way; sisters Mrs. Mildred (Way) Robertson and Eunice (Way) Glass; and brother Valentine B. Way.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law George and Pamela Brooks of Barry; nephew Travis Robertson of Malakoff; nieces Joanne Davenport of Kansas City and Caroline Robertson of Lawson, Mo.

He was born in Corsicana and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University and Armstrong Atlantic State University.
He was an aeronautical engineer, working as an independent contractor.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tania Elaine and Keigh George of Frisco; a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh A. and Karen Reeder of Austin; a longtime companion and special friend, Ann Mikell Hayth of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, Bailey and Alexander George; stepdaughter, Lynne Vardell of Port Wentworth, Ga.; stepson, William Vardell of Atlanta, Ga.; step granddaughters, Chrystal Higdon of Pooler, Ga., Nicole Brown of Seattle, Wash., and Samantha Corbitt of Port Wentworth, Ga.; and step great-grandson, Zane Brady of Pooler, Ga.

 George H. CunninghamGeorge H. Cunningham left the bonds of Earth Nov. 8, 2005. He was born Dec. 17, 1916, to Emily (Johnson) Cunningham and Estill Young Cunningham in Corsicana. He attended all 12 years of school in Corsicana and graduated from
Corsicana High School with the class of 1934. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corps and United States Air Force from 1941 through 1963. While serving in World War II he was a navigator/bombardier in 319th Bomb Group flying B-26 Marauders in both the North African and Italian Campaigns. Upon returning to the States he transitioned to the 509th Bomb Group flying B29s. He later was to fly B-47s in the 47th Bomb Wing in Lake Charles, La. Then was sent to Wichita, Kan., to be an Air Force plant representative officer at Boeing test flying new and modified B-52s. While in the service he was awarded the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hour Glass, and the French Croix de Guerre with Palm. During his military career he flew in excess of 10,000 hours. After retiring from the USAF, he worked at both Boeing and Beech Aircraft Companies as an engineer. He especially loved raising cattle on his ranch east of Wichita. George was also a 32nd degree mason and a
member of the Median Shrine of Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Shanklin Cunningham.
He is survived by his son John D. Cunningham and his wife, Pat, of Manassas, Va., and their children: Peter, Phillip, and Erin. He is also survived by his daughter Becky Sable, her husband Don and their son, Christopher Funk of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and by his very dear friend Lorriane Binderim of Wichita, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to benefit the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University. Please send them to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, TX 77840 noting in the memo section or note in memory of George H. Cunningham ‘38.

J. B. Haynes, aged 56 years, insurance man, died at 407 1/2 South
Thirteenth street Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock from gunshot wounds
and a coroner's verdict was returned by Judge J. L. Cox, of "death
by gunshot wounds, self-inflicted." Judge Cox and Sheriff Rufus
Pevehouse and deputy Sheriff Jack Floyd answered the call.
Haynes was shot with a .38 calibre Smith and Wesson pistol, Sheriff
Pevehouse stated, the bullet entering back of the right ear and
emerging at the top of the head. Death apparently was instantaneous.
Members of the family heard a shot and his body was found in the
bathroom with the pistol nearby.
The tragedy occurred at the home of his father-in-law, J. F. Massey.
No cause for the act has been advanced.
The body was taken to the Sutherland Funeral Home where it was
prepared for burial. No funeral arrangements had been made early
Friday afternoon pending the arrival of relatives, but it is
expected that the services will be held here sometime Saturday with
interment in Oakwood cemetery.
Haynes had been here some time and had been in the insurance
business for many years.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR
VICTIM OF BULLET
Funeral services for J. B. Haynes, aged 56 years, insurance man whose
lifeless body was found in the bathroom at 407 1-2 South Thirteenth
street Friday morning at 8:30 o’clock after members of the family heard
a shot, were held from the residence Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock
with interment in Oakwood cemetery.
The services were conducted by Rev. J. Howard Williams, pastor of the
First Baptist church.
Haynes had resided here several years and made his home with his
father-in-law, J. F. Massey.
Haynes was shot one time with a .38 calibre pistol, the bullet entering
behind the right ear and emerging from the top of the head. No cause was
assigned for the act. A coroner’s verdict of suicide was returned by
Judge J. L. Cox who accompanied Sheriff Rufus Pevehouse and Deputy
Sheriff Jack Floyd on the call.
Surviving is his wife. The funeral was directed by the Sutherland
Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Abe Hayman, 72, of 2825 Forest, who died Thursday night at a local hospital, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the home.
Rabbi H. Raphael Gold and Rabbi J. Abramowitz will officiate. Burial will be at White Rock Cemetery. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. M. Indian Massacre Survivor Dies at Home in Dallas
Family Left Bell County to Escape Raids From Savage Bands in 1885
Thomas Areadius Hayes, 82, whose family retired under arms from their first Texas home in Bell County in 1885 because of news of Indian massacres near by, died Christmas Eve at his home, 5004 East Side. Mr. Hayes and his wife, who survives him, celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary on Dec. 4. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday from the Brewer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Hayes, are three daughters, Mrs. Joe F. Ponder, Mrs. Raymond Thomas, Mrs. O. D. Montgomery, and a son, T. A. Hayes Jr.; two grandchildren, Carolyn Thomas and Billy Montgomery. Pallbearers for the funeral will be Murrell Buckner, Judge Robert B. Allen, Dr. Reuben Jackson, L. L. Jester, Ben Brandenburg, H. G. Pistole and Dick Elam.
Mr. Hayes was born in Jackson, Tenn., June 25, 1852, and was 3 years old when his parents moved to Texas, settling in Bell County, later moving to Navarro County to get out of the reach of Indians. After school days in Corsicana he entered the general merchandise business in Corsicana, the goods for the store being transported in wagons from Millican, then the terminus of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad. He paid his first visit to Dallas shortly after the completion of the Texas & Pacific to Eagle Ford in 1873. Mr. Hayes moved to Dallas twenty years ago.

CORSICANA, Texas. - Services for T. P. (Pink) Hayes, 67, former Navarro County commissioner, who died in the Veterans Administration hospital at Dallas, were held here Monday. Burial was in Oakwook (Oakwood) Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jennie M. Nash, Dallas; a brother, Walter Hayes, Corsicana; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Blankinship, Petty's Chapel, and Mrs. S. R. Fausett, Dallas, and a grandson.

T. P. (Pink) Hayes, 67, World War
I veteran, died in the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Dallas
Saturday afternoon following a several years’ illness.
Life-long resident of Navarro county, Hayes served as commissioner of
Precinct I several terms beginning January 1, 1937.
Funeral services were held from the McCammon Chapel Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. J. W. McKinney, minister of the First
Christian church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jennie M. Nash, Dallas; a brother, Walter
Hayes, Corsicana; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Blankinship, Petty’s Chapel,
and Mrs. S. R. Fausett, Dallas; and one grandchild and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Claude Absher, Henry Levy, Walter Stewart, Chet Dunham,
George Campbell, Bob Pelham, Edward Park and Paul Miller.

Hawkins - The body of Mrs. Chloe Hawkins, aged 40, who died at her home, 3003 Live Oak street, Friday morning, was sent to Corsicana by Undertaker Loudermilk over the Houston and Central Railroad yesterday, on the train leaving Dallas at 11:30 a. m. Funeral service was held in Corsicana yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by two daughters, one of them 18 years old and the other 9.

Wife of Oilman Faces Charge in Musician's Death
Corsicana Woman Is Accused in Shooting of Radio Entertainer
CORSICANA, Texas, April 15. - Mrs. Alla Mae Kent, wife of G. C. Kent, well-known oil operator and landowner, made $7,500 bond Wednesday on a charge of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Noble (Curly) Hataway, 25, radio entertainer and musician, at Hataway's apartment early in the day.
Hataway was struck in the chest by one bullet and died a few minutes later at a hospital.
The Navarro County grand jury began an investigation into incidents surrounding the affair. John Sparks, Ennis musician, and Miss Reba Paterson of Corsicana, reported eyewitnesses to the affair, were said to have appeared before the probers. The grand jury is continuing its investigation and may complete it Thursday, C. L. Knox, Assistant District Attorney, said.
Mrs. Kent, who waived an examining trial, did not appear before the grand jury Wednesday and is not expected to do so.
Hataway's body was sent to Sulphur Springs for burial. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hataway of Sulphur Springs; three brothers, Eugene and Ira Hataway of Dallas and M. R. Hataway of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Mrs. W. H. Lovelace of Ennis, Mrs. Fred Frederick of Sulphur Springs and Mrs. Edith Hill of Sulphur Springs. Funeral services will be held at the home of his parents Thursday at 2 p.m.

 Dr. David W. Hale, 67, of Corsicana passed away on Saturday evening at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Hale was the Pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana for many years, until his retirement. He was currently serving as the Lead Chaplain for Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana, chaplain for Navarro County Sheriff's office and was doing some counseling and teaching at Navarro College. Visitation will be on Monday, December 19, 2005 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Northside Baptist Chruch. Services will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Northside Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

David Wadsworth Hale was born January 29, 1938 in Potomac Mills, Va. He left his home in Virginia to be stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San
Antonio, where he met is wife, Joyce Graham Hale. They were married in 1960 and had three children: Jennifer, Amara and Kyla. After the death of his
wife Joyce in 1994, he married Beverly Head in 1996.
Dr. Hale began his ministry in Corsicana at Northside Baptist Church in 1971
where he pastored for 30 years. Rev. Hale served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Karnes City from 1968 to 1971. After his retirement he served as an
instructor and retention counselor for Navarro College, a chaplain for Navarro Regional Hospital, started and pastored the Church in the Park, and
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He had been involved in organizations like the Navarro County Peace Officers
and Sheriff's Department, NCARC, Navarro College, Navarro Regional Hospital and KAND Radio, and many others in the community. In his 40 years of
ministry, Dr. Hale touched the lives of so many people. David was quoted as saying, "When you're called to the ministry, your ministry doesn't end until
you run out of breath". David Hale's legacy will continue to minister for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Graham Hale; and his brother, Charles Hale.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hale of Corsicana; daughters and
sons-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Wilfong and Amara and Casey Hughes, all of Keller and Kyla and Justin Terry of Aubrey; grandsons, Graham Wilfong, Evan
Wilfong, Connor Hughes, Carson Hughes, and C.J. Hughes, all of Keller; granddaughter, Brenna Wilfong of Keller; brother and sister-in-law, Durwood
and Mary Hale of Kilmarnock, Va.; brother-in-law and wife, Pike and Patsy Castles of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Faye Harrison, 65, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at a local residence. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Mrs. Harrison was born March 31, 1940, in Barry to E. H. Richards and Mary Eleanor Knight Richards. She was a secretary at Northside Baptist Church for 25 years. She was also a member of Community Bible Study. Faye had some activities she loved to do. She loved to go camping, she loved being around her three grandsons and she loved to eat out.
She was preceded in death by her parents E. H. and Mary Richards and her sister Kathryn Wilson.

Faye Harrison
Faye Harrison, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away Sunday December 18, 2005 at her residence at the age of 65 years. Faye was born in Barry, Texas on March 31, 1940 to E.H. Richards and Mary Eleanor Knight Richards.
Faye faithfully served the Lord all of her life. She was a secretary at Northside Baptist Church for 25 years. Faye was also a member of the Community Bible Study. Faye had some activities that she loved to do. She loved to go camping, she loved being around her three grandsons, and she loved to eat out.
