The funeral will be directed by the Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kessinger, a veritable Mother in Israel, was one of the few remaining old-time Southern women who made their life work that of going about doing good, especially in her own home and among her family and neighbors. She adhered to the policy that there was much good in all people and always sought this good instead of pointing out the short-comings of others. She was dearly beloved by a wide circle of old-timers and also by the younger generation who came in contact with her. Despite her great age she was deeply interested in current events and the life of her city, state and nation.

YOUNG CORSICANA MAN KILLED MEXICO CITY LAST NIGHT

DETAILS OF DEATH MEAGER BUT STREET CAR ACCIDENT CAUSED DEATH

Corsicana has been saddened today because of the tragic death last night of Sam M. Kerr, Jr., in Mexico City, where he went only a few weeks ago to accept an important business position. The deceased who was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Kerr, was reared in Corsicana, and was universally esteemed as a young man of unblemished personal character, and his death has cast a gloom over the entire community.

The only information so far obtainable is that he was killed in a street car accident. This information came from the head of the Y. M. C. A. in Mexico City where the young man was living.

At 12:30 today another telegram came from a young man who was associated with Sam in his new home, tendering sympathy, and saying that the remains were being well cared for and offering to accompany the body home if it was desired for him to do so.

It is not yet known when the body will reach here, but in the mean time the entire community are in deep sympathy with the bereaved parents and sisters, and all are heavy hearted because of the untimely death of this excellent young man, who was past 22 years of age, and had but recently graduated from the business department of the State University.

FUNERAL SERVICES SAM M. KERR, JR., SUNDAY AFTERNOON

BODY WILL ARRIVE IN CORSICANA EARLY TOMORROW MORNING

S. M. Kerr received a telegram from his brother, Cal E. Kerr, this morning saying that the remains of Sam M. Kerr, Jr., who was killed in Mexico City Monday night in a street car accident, had reached the American side, and he would be here with them tomorrow morning at 6 o’clock, on the Northbound Houston & Texas Central railroad.

The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Third Avenue Presbyterian church, with interment in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Kerr also received by mail this morning two clippings from American papers published in Mexico City, telling as near as they could the facts of the young man’s tragic death. One of these clippings is as follows:

Samuel H. Kerr, American, age 22 and a leader in the Young Men’s Christian Association here was killed yesterday when riding on the step of a surburban train on the Taeuhaya line.

Kerr was hanging on to a crowded car and whenthe car reached Praga station on Avenida Chapullepec in front of the “Casa Colorado” alcohol factory, he apparently lost his balance and was thrown against one of the posts along the line.

The White Cross relief society rushed to his aid from their station at Chapulltepec and Avenida Bueareli, but his injuries were so severe that he died without regaining conscious a few minutes after the ambulance arrived.

The other clipping read as follows:

Confused reports were circulated yesterday on the death of Samuel H. Kerr, who was killed near Praga station on Avenida Chapultepec on Monday evening when he struck against a post while riding on the step of a crowded suburban car.

From the facts of Kerr’s death it appears that on Monday evening at about 7:30, he was riding from the Y. M. C. A. to the Condesa apartments, where he had just moved. As near as accurate facts can be obtained Mr. Kerr was riding on the rear platform of a street car which was crowded with people who had been observing All Soul’s Day. In some unexplainable way the back of his head struck a post and he was thrown to the ground. He died from a from a fractured skull without regaining consciousness in the rooms of the White Cross relief station and before friends could reach him.

As he carried a Y. M. C. A. membership card in his pocket this organization was notified. W. C. Taylor, secretary of the Y. M. C. A. immediately took charge of the body which will enable the remains to be shipped to his parents in Corsicana, Texas this evening.

Mr. Kerr was 22 years of age and had recently graduated from Texas University. He came here early in October and was so impressed with the city that he decided to stay and took a position with the Cia, Textilera Mexicana, S. A. He was the son of S. M. Kerr, a prominent attorney of Corsicana and is survived by his father and mother and two married sisters.
