Mrs. Julia Mirus Dies In Corsicana Home
CORSICANA, Texas. Mrs. Julia Mirus, 80, was found dead in her home here at noon Saturday by neighbors. She had been under treatment for a heart ailment and apparently died at a heart attack.
Mrs. Mirus was prominent in Episcopal Church and UDC circles here.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry Green, Dallas; a son, Carl Mirus, New Orleans, La.; four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Engleking, San Antonia.

Mrs. Julia Mirus Services Monday

Funeral service for Mrs. Julia Mirus, 80, who died at her home, 808 South Fourteenth street, with a heart attack Saturday morning, were held at 11 a.m. Monday from St. John’s Episcopal church.

The rites were conducted by Rev. James Joseph, rector of the church. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

The widow of the late Charles Mirus, Mrs. Mirus had resided in Corsicana most of her life and had made her home where she died for more than 50 years.

She was a member of the choir of St. John’s Episcopal church and formerly was organist. She was active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry Green, Dallas; a son, Carl Mirus, New Orleans; four grandchildren, Mrs. C. J. Luten, New York City; Mrs. Ray Bell, Longview; Julia Jane and Carl Mirus, Jr. both of New Orleans; a sister, Mrs. Alvina Engelking, San Antonio, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were George Campbell, Earl Presley, Elmer Butler, Vivian Mowlam, Bill King and A. W. Ray.

Corley directed.

A. FRANK MITCHELL DIED AT FROST LAST NIGHT; RITES FRIDAY

A. Frank Mitchell, aged 63 years, lifelong resident of Frost, died Thursday night at 7:30 o’clock. He had been in the cotton business for many years. The funeral rites were held from the Frost Baptist church Friday afternoon with burial in the Frost Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. D. P. Cagle, pastor of the church, and Rev. T. D. Ellis, pastor of the Frost Methodist church. Mr. Mitchell was a former student at Baylor University, Waco.

Surviving are his wife of Frost; three sons, Herbert Mitchell, Camp Gordon, Johnston, Fla.; Robert Mitchell, instructor, Texas A. and M. College, College Station, and Richard Mitchell, Wortham; a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Bagley, Frost; mother, Mrs. Jane (Granny) Mitchell, Frost; two brothers, Dink Mitchell and Luther Mitchell, both of Frost; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Holcomb, Frost; Mrs. Ode Mitchell, Oklahoma, and Miss Katherine Mitchell, Frost, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Bell Mitchell, of 4303 Valley Ridge, a Dallas resident for the last 10 years, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lamar & Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.
Mrs. Mitchell, a member of the Presbyterian Church, died here Tuesday.
Born near Mooresville, N.C., she had been a'long-time resident of Navarro County until moving to Dallas.
Survivors: Three daughters, Mrs. J. I. Jordan of Duncan, Okla., and Mrs. A. F. Mitchell and Mrs. M. A. Drane Jr. of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. M. B. Fallon of Dallas, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MOIR - Corsicana, Texas, June 2. - Funeral services for J. M. Moir, 48 years old, who died here yesterday, were held this morning with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. H. J. Ellis, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, conducted the services.
The deceased is survived by four children, three sons and one daughter.
He was a native of Scotland and had lived in Corsicana for a number of years.

FUNERAL THIS MORNING.

Remains of John M. Moir Now Rest in Oakwood.

The remains of the late J. M. Moir who died at his home on West First avenue yesterday morning, were laid at rest in Oakwood cemetery this morning after services at 10 o’clock in St. John’s Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rector, the Rev. H. J. Ellis. There was a large attendance of friends and parishioners present at the last sad rites and many beautiful floral tributes attested the esteem in which Mr. Moir and his family are held by those who knew them best.

The pallbearers were W. H. Hastings, R. L. Hamilton, H. D. Johnson, J. Frank Williams, W. A. Mowlam and Mr. Sutton.

The death of this good man has brought sadness to many hearts. He had been a resident of Corsicana for several years, at one time being a most valued and expert mechanic in the employ of the American Well & Prospecting Company, but for the past few years had been unable to follow his chosen profession, but through it all he remained most cheerful and always had a happy greeting for those with whom he came in contact. The sympathy of the entire community will go out to the lonely companion and four children who survive him.

Henry Molloy, aged 57 years, native of Corsicana, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Joe Wilson, 1304 West Seventh avenue, Monday morning at 8 o’clock and the funeral will be held from the Wilson residence Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. M. Ewing McPhaill, pastor of the Third Avenue Presbyterian church and Rev. P. Martin Baker, former pastor of the Third Avenue Presbyterian church.

Surviving are his wife, five sisters, Miss Allie Molloy, Miss Roche Molloy, Mrs. Joe Wilson, Mrs. Julian Ransom and Mrs. Allyn Lang, all of Corsicana; and two brothers, C. M. Molloy and L. C. Molloy, both of Corsicana, and an aunt, Mrs. J. Doak Roberts, Dallas.

The funeral will be directed by the Corley funeral home.

Doyle "Hicks" Bryant Mitchell, 81, of Frost, died recently at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Frost Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Reed officiating. Burial was at Frost Cemetery under the direction of Blooming Grove Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nettie Mitchell of Frost; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Dean of Garland and Mrs. Audry Parum of Frost; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Omberg of Waco and Mrs. Lucille Scott of Denison; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee (Helton) Vest

Mrs. Vest Buried Frost

Interment in Frost Cemetery Thursday followed a 10 AM funeral in Frost Methodist Church for Mrs. George W. Vest of Avalon, formerly of Frost. Rev. Frank Williams, pastor of Rider Memorial Methodist Church in Ennis, Rev. Billy Williams of Avalon and Rev. Thad Son, pastor of Frost Methodist Church, officiated. Music was provided by Miss Beverly Yates, organist. Casket Bearers, all nephews, were Tony Helton, jerry Helton, Eugene Helton, Bronny Helton, Carl Smith and Harve Cochran.

Mrs. Vest died unexpectedly after a short illness Tuesday afternoon in Navarro County Memorial Hospital where she had been taken from her home in Avalon. She was born in the Irene community in 1913 and had lived in Avalon about 10 years. Before her marriage, she was Mary Helton.

Surviving Mrs. Vest are her husband of Avalon; son, W.R. Vest of Mertens; daughters, Mrs. G.W. Robinson of Lubbock, Mrs. Lynn Downey of Duncanville and Miss Carolyn Vest of Dallas; seven grandchildren; parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Helton of Frost; brothers, Barney of Waxahachie, Charlie of Itasca, Hubert and Hughey of Irene, Rob of Ft. Worth, Harold of Dallas, Aldine of Houston and W.M. of Burleson.

The rites will be conducted by Dr. Matthew H. Arnold, minister of the Westminister Presbyterian church, of which she was a member.
A native of South Carolina, Mrs. Blake had resided in Navarro county most of her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Croft, Corsicana, and Mrs. Claude Bell, Milford; a son Dan Cunningham, fort Worth; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Amelia Perry, Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, J. C. Ragsdale, Dresden, and other relatives.

Audrey Parum, 74, of Frost, passed away Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Frost Baptist Church, with Dale Rose and Joe Dowdy officiating.  Interment will be at Frost Cemetery.  Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Brown, Ron Franks, Ronnie Young, Ronnie Guthrie, Ronald Elmore, Carlos More, Alva Lynn Smith and Blake English.
Mrs. Parum was born in Frost on Feb. 12, 1924. She was a member of Frost Baptist Church for 65 years.  She was a graduate of Frost High School and attended Hill College.  She was a member of Frost Garden Club, Rebekka Lodge, Past Noble Grand, PTA, served on the state PTA board, was the first woman member of the Frost School Board, member of WMU and was a Democratic Precinct Chairman.  She married Joe Parum in 1941.
Mrs. Parum is survived by her husband, Joe Parum of Frost, son and daughter-in-law, John and Shannon Parum of Lone Oak; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Malcolm Fleet of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Heather and Mark Lauden of Ft. Worth and Brady Parum of Lone Oak; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Parum was preceded in death by her son, Joe Parum, Jr.; parents and two sisters.

She was born in Cryer Creek, Texas.  She was a life-long resident of the Frost Methodist Church and a member of frost Rebekah Lodge No. 181 for 42 years.  She was employed 27 years at Collin Street Bakery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Cook, in 1973.
Survivors include one daughter, Priscilla of Corsicana and one sister, Tollie Fae Yancey of Dallas.
Pallbearers will be Donald Williams, Glenn Williams, Earl Yates, Patrick Yancy, Donald lee Bailey and Earl Crawford.

J. Ernest Wagner, 76, of Frost, died Oct. 29, 1992 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist Church in Frost, with the Rev. Clyde Zellers, the Rev. Keith Murray and the Rev. Dale Rose.  The burial will be in the Frost cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Blooming Grove.

Mrs. Harvey Leichter, 28, of Waco, the former Mary Lou Daniels of Corsicana, died Wednesday at 6 a.m. in Hillcrest Hospital in Waco after an 18-months illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Wilkerson and Hatch Funeral Home in Waco with graveside services at 11:30 a.m at the Corsicana Hebrew cemetery. Corley will be in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs Leichter was a graduate of Corsicana High School and the University of Texas.

She is survived by her husband of Waco; one son, Louis, almost four; her mother, Mrs. Louis Daniels; her grandmother, Mrs. M. L. Levine, both of Waco, and former Corsicana residents; an aunt, Mrs. Louis Goldberg of Corsicana, and other relatives.

William Sidney (Bill) Rogers, 18, Texas A. and M. College sophomore in architecture, and Conner Armstrong, 44, of Giddings were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision of a pick-up truck and an automobile north of Bryan.

Rogers is a 1956 graduate of Corsicana High School and was a court herald in the 1956 Corsicana High School Coronation. He was a member of the band.

The family resided in Corsicana from November 1947 until last Spring when they moved to the Creslenn Ranch, Route 1, Trinidad.

Funeral services are planned from the Corley Funeral Chapel Friday at 2 p.m. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Bob Cheek, pastor of the First Baptist church of Baytown, formerly pastor of the Northside Baptist church here and Rev. Guy Phillips, pastor of the Assembly of God church.

Young Rogers was born June 9, 1939, at Kingman, Ariz., and the family resided in Washington until 1943, when they returned to Arizona and then to Corsicana.

Surviving are his parents Jimmy J. And Florence Streblow Rogers of Route 1, Trinidad; grandparents Mr. And Mrs. George Stewblow, Fond-du-Lac, Wisconsin, and W. G. Rogers, Corsicana, and a number of uncles, aunts, and other relatives.

Rogers was attending A. and M. College on a James Collins scholarship. His mother is ill in a Malakoff hospital.

Don Kennedy, 17, Corsicana High School senior and member of the Tiger band, died in Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning of leukemia. He has been ill since last June, but was able to attend classes the first three weeks of the fall session.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wafer; a brother, Melvin Kennedy; a sister, Mrs. Fred Jones, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kennedy and Mrs. T. E. Hoggett, all of Corsicana, and other relatives.

Funeral services witll be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. from the McCammon Chapel with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Claude B. Holcomb, minister of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Tekell, Dickie Lake, Bill Rogers, Don Denbow, Mark Winslow, James Blakeney, James Thigpen and Jerry Davis, all member of the Corsicana High School band.

Duane Cooper, 44 of Huntsville, died Friday in Huntsville.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Father Gerald Johnston and Father James Sigler will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Griffin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Cooper, of Huntsville; one daughter, Heather Cooper, of Huntsville; one son, Kent Cooper, of Huntsville; his parents, Glenn and Elma Cooper, of Cedar Creek; and one brother, Mack Cooper, of Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Claude McColpin, Travis Cole, Randy Michaels, Jay Jackson, Colin Gribble, James Brown and Gary Smith.

Cooper was a past resident of Corsicana and owner of Cooper Shoes, Inc.

FROST - Lura Harrison, longtime resident of Frost, died Tuesday in San Marcus.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the frost United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Carroll, the Rev. Frank Williams and the Rev. Norman Suggs officiating.
Burial will be in the Frost Cemetery.  Blooming Grove Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She came to Frost in 1922 as the bride of W. B. Harrison who served as a superintendent of the Frost  school district for many years.
She was very active in community, school and church activities.  She was a teacher of the women's Sunday school class at the Frost United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women Worthwile Club and the local study club.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial be given to the building fund of the Fist United Methodist Church of the Frost School Library.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John Moore of Maxwell; one son, Dr. Dough Harrison of Baton Roughe, La.; one sister, Sarah Cupit of Fort Worth; five grand-daughters; one grandson; one great-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Logan, Marion Green, Buddy Ross, Charles Martin, Arnold Armstrong and Jerry Sam Scott.

Edith Udelle Woodall, 95, passed away Friday, April 14, 2006.  Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral Home chapel.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 16 at the funeral home.
Udelle was born on March 24, 1911, in Memphis, Texas to Pearl and Virgil Ferguson.  She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education and Masters Degree, with a certificate in School Counseling from North Texas State in Denton.  She married Earle S. Woodall in 1940 and celebrated 54 years of happy marriage.
She lovingly served many students as teacher and junior high counselor for 32 years.  She was President of A.B.W.A. and member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School class at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.  Caring for her family was her priority.
Udelle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl S. Woodall; and brother Carl Ferguson.
She is survived by her daughter, Leta and husband, John Hearn of Conroe; daughter, Donna of Choctaw, Okla.; grandchildren, Randy Golden of Houston, Brent Golden and wife, Shirley of Spring, Allan Meesey of Houston and Allison Meesey of Choctaw, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Devyn Golden of Spring; close friend and caregiver, Ruthie Pitts; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends.

Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Mabank. She worked as a seamstress and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kerens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Velma Jennings Morton; husband, W. F. (Babe) Johnson; son, Donald W. Johnson; and sister, Mary Martin.

Mrs. Ives passed away Tuesday morning, November 15, 2005 at the Navarro Regional Hospital, Corsicana. She was born in Saline, Michigan on June 19, 1942 to Ernest and Estele (Travis) Dunagan. The family moved to Frost, Texas in 1946 where she attended schools there. She married Clovis Ives on December 9, 1961 in Dallas. Mrs. Ives was a homemaker, and enjoyed yard work, housekeeping and fishing. They were spending their retirement years at Navarro Mills, moving there six years ago from Lancaster. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Her survivors include: sons, Mike Ives, Ricky Ives, David Ives and Becky, Derrick Ives; sisters, Wanda Conner and Jan Demaree; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Italy Chapel, 161 W. Main St., Italy, Texas 76651. The Celebration of her Life will be 2 PM Thursday, November 17, 2005 also in the Italy Chapel. Interment will follow in the Frost Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Demaree, Danny Demaree, Toni Connor, Kevin Ives, Mike Ives, David Ives and Ricky Ives.

Gary "Butch" Green, age 66, of Frankston and formerly of Italy, passed away Monday, July 18, 2005 in Tyler. He was born October 13, 1938 in Winters, Texas to Walter J. and Pauline (Satterwhite) Green. Gary worked at the Wal-Mart in Ennis for several years before retiring and moving to Lake Palestine where he could fish daily.

Survivors include his father, Walter Green of Frankston, Texas; sister, LaVanda Webb of Abilene, Texas; brother, Cary Green and his wife Carol of Jacksonville, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Jonell Green and mother, Pauline Green.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel in Italy with Reverend Jeff Bankhead officiating. Interment will follow at the Frost Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time on Wednesday.

Imogene Boyd Beale, age 76, a life long resident of Ellis County passed away Monday, February 10, 2003 in Hillsboro, Texas. She was born April 18, 1926 in Lone Cedar, Texas to Roy and Delorus (Hendrix) Boyd. She had been employed at the Avalon School cafeteria for ten years.

She is survived by two daughters, Marianna Green and Denise Lavon Huffman both of Italy; two sons, Jerry Michael Huffman of Italy, Texas and William Matthews Huffman of Ennis, Texas; one brother, Paul Boyd of Italy, Texas; nine grandchildren, Richard Huffman, Zachary Rochester, Matthew Huffman, Mark Huffman, Michael Rochester, D'Anna Rochester, Jeremy Huffman, John Huffman and Bethany Huffman. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jonathan Huffman.

Lois G. Nevill Turner, 83 a beloved wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with the lord on Monday, May 8, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Although Alzheimer’s robbed her of her spirit, this terrible, unforgiving monster was not able to rob her of her ability to show us just how very much she loved us all.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Corley’s Funeral Home Chapel, 418 N. 13th Street, Corsicana, Texas the Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse, TX. Visitation will be 6-9:00 P.M. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be David Varela, Ricky Mendez, Steve Nevill, Randy Nevill, Estephen Smith, Leonard Denton & David Loosier. Mrs. Turner was born in Navarro County and continued to live here for the better part of her life. In her earlier years she loved to fish in the tanks close to her home and she never missed a chance to play a good hand of dominoes with her family and friends.

She was a long-term member of the First United Methodist Church in Corsicana, Texas. She was devoted to her love for Christ. The family feels blessed for the time we had with her and we know she is in a better place now.

My Heart is filled with happiness And sweet rejoicing, too. To walk with God is perfect peace. A joy forever new.

Mom, It breaks our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home. Rest peacefully with the angel’s now, for instead of being in your wheelchair, God has now given you your wings…

She was preceded in death by three brothers; Buddy Nevill, Harmon Nevill, & Thurman Nevill and one sister; Martha Johnson.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from June 12, 1979, to Feb. 1, 1983. She was a sales associate at AAFES for 15 years and was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Myrtle and George Adams; grandfather, Pete Miller; and stepfather, Robert Lucas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy Jones, in 1978.

Survivors include her daughter, Toni Vaughan of Corsicana; grandchildren, Holly Vaughan and Hayley Vaughan of Corsicana; sisters, Margaret Poston and husband William of Valley Mills and Wanda Robinson and husband Don of Navasota; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joyce Brown.
