Christine Burke Sloan, 88, of Powell passed away Friday, August 20, 1999, in Corsicana.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery with Adair P. Chapman and Ferman Carpenter officiating.

Mrs. Sloan was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Kerens, DAR, and the Navarro County Historical Society.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cherokee Home for Children, P.O.

Box 295, Cherokee, Texas, 76832.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Crawford, Richard Cummins, Howard Jackson, John Kenner, Charles Kent, Abe Stroud, Alton Thomason, Homer Gene Wasson, Frank Wilson and Elven Wright.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Sloan Lewis of Canton; sons, Harrison Sloan of Corsicana and John Burke Sloan of Diboll; granddaughters, Susan Sloan Allman of Brownwood, Catherine Lewis of Austin, Elizabeth Sloan of  Diboll, Emily Sloan of Mississauga, Leah Sloan of Abilene and Martha Jane Wallace of Tyler; grandsons, Burke Warren Lewis of Canton, Paul Allen Sloan of Corsicana; great grandsons, Michael John Allman of Brownwood, Allen Dale Sloan of Corsicana, Andrew Joseph Sloan of Corsicana; great granddaughter, Audrey Christine Sloan of Corsicana and Mary Catherine Wallace of Tyler.

She was preceded in death by a husband, Paul J. Sloan.

He was born June 30, 1910 in McAllen and was a retired supervisor for the Cotton Mill, and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Clearcy Shoemaker of Corsicana; two daughters, Ruby Andrews of Corsicana, and Betty Jo Gressett of Conroe; one son, Phillip W. Shoemaker of Tyler; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. C. H. Calvert of Corsicana, and Gladys Daley of Corpus Christi; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bernice McCuiston

Bernice "Bunny" McCuiston, 80, of Denison, died Feb. 26, 1989, in a Sherman hospital.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright. Bratcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McCuiston was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Kerens to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bear.  She married Leslie McCuiston Oct. 27, 1934, in Corsicana. She worked for K. Wolen's Lilley's, The Thimble and Buster's Piece Goods, and was a member of First Baptist Church, the Rebekahs, and Elks Auxiliary.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. R. A. Williams of Houston.

Tresa Kathleen Forman, 17, of Kerens, died Tuesday, Feb 28, 1989.

Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church.  The Rev. Chuck Biscoe will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Point Cemetery near Kerens.

She was a junior at Kerens High School. She was Drum Major of the Kerens High School band and was a member of the Beta Club.

She is survived by her parents, Susan and David Foreman of Kerens; her grandparents, Joe and Evelyn Baxter of Kerens and James and Dolly Foreman of Mexia and a great-grandmother, Ruby C. Baxter of Kerens.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Ivie, Gooley Orr, Joe Roberts, Ron Henderson, Larry Christie, Bobby Bain, Larry Burden, Carl Wilkey, Jack Bell and George Edwards.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may b made to the First Baptist Youth Group.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Ruiz, and Steven Ruiz, both of Corsicana; one daughter, Denice King of New Orleans; two sisters, LaJuanna Colburn, and Rebecca Hodge, both of Corsicana; seven grandchildren.

He was born Dec 29, 1913 in Dawson and had lived in Sherman for 13 years. He was an interior decorator.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Griffith of Houston and Patricia Sargent of Galveston; two sons, William N. Spain of Escondido, Calif., and Theodore G. Spain of Stockton, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Hoyt Spain of Cedar Creek Lake; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carrie Strain Anderson Smith, 95, of Dallas, died March 29, 1989.

Services will be held in Dallas Friday. Interment will be in Restland Cemetery in Dallas.

She was the daughter of A. H and Allie Strain of Frost. She taught in the public school system for 40 years, and was affiliated with the Presbyterian church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Anderson of Lake Kiowa; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Copps; a host of nieces and nehews; two  sisters-in-law, Orelle Strain and Mattie Strain of Frost; three sisters, Allie Strain Smith of San Angelo, Mary Strain Stevenson Thurman of Seymour, and Sammie Strain Armstrong and brother-in-law, Arnold Armstrong of Corsicana.

He was born Dec. 3, 1925 in Blooming Grove and had lived most of his life in Corsicana. He was a retired textile and pipeline worker.

Survivors include  three brothers, Franklin Carroll and James Carroll, both of Corsicana, and Joe Carroll of Garland; one sister, Peggy Woods of Burkburnet; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was born Sept 3, 1894 in Navarro County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

Her husband, T. I. Farmer, preceded her in death in 1968.

Survivors include one daughter, Letha Davis of Purdon; one granddaughter, Carolyn Williams of Corsicana; one grandson, Jackie Davis of Houston; six great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Tally of Corsicana, and Edith Farmer of Harlingen; one brother, Everett Whittenburg of Corsicana; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Howard Duke, 32, of Italy passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Duke was born Nov. 30, 1966 in Hempstead to Howard Dale and Francis Hall Duke.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard D. Duke; sister, Pamela Duke; and stepfather, Benford McRae.

Eva Jane Anderson Straub

Eva Jane Anderson Straub, 62, of Emmett, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999 in Cleburne.

Services were 10 a.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev.

Rick Hope and the Rev. Karen Cravens officiating.  Interment followed at Dresden Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alex Flores, Max Watts, Gene Dalsing, Jack Wilkerson, Dutch Wilkerson and Dave Wilkerson.  Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Baker, Charles Curtis, LeRoy Johnson and Don Plauche.

Mrs. Straub was born May 7, 1937 in Dallas.  She was dedicated to her family and church.  Mrs. Straub was a member of Frost United Methodist Church and of Emmaus.  She was a superintendent of Vacation Bible School, served as a lay director of Young Journeys No. 9 and was a team member of the Prison Ministries.  She worked at the Navarro County Courthouse as the assistant to the county treasurer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rush Anderson.

Mrs. Straub is survived by her husband, A.W. "Dub" Straub of Emmett; mother, Lois Harbur of Denison; sons, Philip Straub of Belton and Bruce Straub of Santa Elena; daughter, Teri Armfield of Valley Center, Kan.; sisters, Anne Stucky of Lawton, Okla. and Sue Simmons of Austin; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Mr. Phillips was born Jan. 26, 1911 in Kerens.  He graduated from Kerens High School and San Marcos Baptist Academy.  Entered Air Corps in 1942, trained at Spartan Aeronautical School, Oklahoma.  He served in England, Belgium and Italy in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Veda Phillips, and a sister, Bertha Gulden.

Mr. Phillips is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Eric Larsen of Corsicana; granddaughter, Laura Larsen; sister, Macile Turner of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Davis was born Jan. 6, 1911, in Rule, the daughter of the late William Davis and Mary Frances Hargrove Davis.

She is survived by one sister, Aloha Gobel of Buchanan Dam and many cousins.

Mrs. Price was born Jan. 28, 1903, in Cottonwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. L. Price on Dec. 19, 1987, a daughter, Dr. Jean Price of Newton, and a son, Charles Price.

Survivors include one son, Dr. James E. Price of Corsicana; one daughter, Mrs. Carol Ann Ford of Los Angeles, Cal.; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Mexia and was a resident f DeRidder for 19 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pam Waguespack of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Karen Key of New Iberia, La.; one son, Stephen R. Hall of Benita Springs, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Rosalie Snider of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

The infant was born April 30, 1989, and died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 1989.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Tracey and Theresa; two brothers, Charles and Michael; parental grandmother, Marie Metzger of Navarro; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krutilek of El Campo.

Mildred D. Burneston of Port Arthur died Saturday, April 29, 1989, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, 1989, at Levingston Funeral Home, Groves.  Burial followed in Oak Bluff Memorial park in Port Neches.

She was a native of Navarro County and lived in Port Arthur for 40 years. She was a retired nursing supervisor at Park Place Hosptial there.

Survivors include her father, W. R. Daniel of Corsicana; one son, Danny Burneston of Fannett; four sisters, Dorothy Anschutz of Lucas, Ohio, John Hand, Patty Howell and Betty Wylie, all of Corsicnaa; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was born May 22, 1895 in Reagan, Texas, and lived most of his life in Kerens. He was a retired farmer and rancher, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I.

Wayne "Mac" McElroy, 85, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with the Rev. Finley and Rev. G.W. French officiating. Interment will follow at
Dawson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Olin Gardner, Don Barton, Jimmy Dawson, Earl Scarborough and Russell Stackhouse.

Mr. McElroy was born May 3, 1914, in Dawson.

He was born and reared in Dawson, but had lived the past 20 years in Corsicana. He was a retired production foreman, having worked for Shell Oil Company in Denver City for 32 years. He was a Navy veteran and served during World War II and Korea as a First Class Molder Machinist.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dawson for over 50 years and was a member of the Shriners in Waco.

Mr. McElroy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Corsicana.

Vivian Corenne Moore O'Neal, 81, of Farmersville died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Greenville.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at
Dawson Cemetery.

Mrs. O'Neal was born May 17, 1918 in Dawson, the daughter of George W. and Della York Moore. She had been living in the Hinton Home in Farmersville for the past three years. Prior to that, she had resided in Copeville for 13 years with her very close friend, Weldon W. Baty.

Prior to her retirement in 1983, Mrs. O'Neal had been a hairdresser for 40 years. Thirty years of that she worked in the University Park area of Dallas. She started her career in Dawson before moving to the Dallas area in 1953.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Lynn B. O'Neal Sr.; and daughters, Carol Ann O'Neal and Reva Lois O'Neal Brannon.

Mrs. O'Neal is survived by her son, Lynn B. O'Neal Jr. of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

LaVonne Tipping, 62, of Blooming Grove passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with the Rev. Darren Heil officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tipping, David Hollingsworth, Wade Green, David Tipping, Jamey Tipping and Michael Hiler.

Mrs. Tipping was born March 13, 1945, in Blooming Grove to Charles Fitzgerald and Dorothy Cumpston Fitzgerald. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She loved antique pewter collecting, traveling to Europe, Italy, and London, England. She loved to work in her flower garden and she loved to spoil her grandchildren, play cards, watch cartoons, watch travel shows and listen to Elvis and The Beach Boys tapes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Tipping in 2001; father; stepfather, C.C. Lusk; and numerous family members.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Lusk of Blooming Grove; daughters, Shonda Prater and husband Kevin and Renee Hellner and husband Davy, all of Blooming Grove; grandchildren, Madison Prater, Logan Prater and Lexi Prater, all of Blooming Grove, Tanya Hollingsworth and husband David of Frost, and Kayla Hendryx, David Hendryx and Ashleigh Hellner, all of Blooming Grove; and great-grandchildren, Payton Hollingsworth and Cole Hollingsworth, both of Blooming Grove.

Mrs. Ray was born Feb. 16, 1914 in Eureka. She was a homemaker. She was a full-time resident in Corsicana from the early ’40s to the late ’80s, when she moved to her daughter’s residence in Little Rock, Ark. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Marion Ray and seven deceased brothers and sisters.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Jan Ray and John Turbeville of Heber Springs, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law Roger and Katerina Ray of Toledo, Ohio; granddaughter and husband, Leah Ray and Kevin Grybz of Chicago; grandsons John Jeffrey Ray of Las Vegas and Mark Turbeville and wife Leanne of Little Rock, Ark.; great-grandsons Dexter Ray Grybz of Chicago and Tyler Thomas Turbeville of Little Rock, Ark.; brother Eugene R. Brown Jones of Corsicana; sister-in-law Cleo Jones of Corsicana; and other numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
