Many friends of the family hope the operation may be successful and bring about the relief desired.

Sidney Kelsey

Master Sidney Dowling Kelsey passed away Wednesday afternoon about 2 o'clock in the Baptist Sanitarium, Dallas. This untimely death followed one of the most delicate operations to which a person may be subjected. Dr. Small performed the operation, and the patient was on table two hours thirty-five minutes.

Sidney was the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Kelsey and would have been ten years old October the 1st. As a prattling, cooing baby upon his mother's knee, the little man was as fine a specimen as ever gladdened the home of fond parents. Development was as perfect as the growth of a good cause. But the human body is frail at best, and one day, at the age of about two a mild, weak spasm broke unannounced into his childish plays. The babe was soon taking up where he had been forced to let loose. The parents were not alarmed. But a little later another came, and another, and they followed with added severity. Everything was done to bring permanent relief, but that which held out hopes proved to be only transitory. Specialists were frequently consulted and decisions followed, all unavailing. As a last resort came the operation, and here was revealed the real cause. But the ordeal was too great. Sidney had forfeited much of his strength in get-ready and when it came to receiving the shock and enduring for more than two hours and half the tax on his strength was more than he could stand.

It was a very sad death. Sidney told his Grandmother Hill as he went away to the sanitarium that he was going to come back to her in a few days "a well boy". He went on the operating table at 8 a.m., came out from under the influence of the anesthetic after the operation and was prefectly rational for hours, taking a turn for the worse about 1:30, passing out in a few minutes. Many went from here to Dallas as soon as they learned of the death and accompanied the hearse back, arriving here at 12 that night. The funeral took place at Central Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 4, burial at
Rose Hill. Pastor Johnston made a feeling talk. The floral offering was very elaborate, testifying love and esteem.

Elizabeth Farrar (Finch) Bolen
Jan 26, 1923 - June 9, 2011

Elizabeth Farrar Finch Bolen, 88, of Corsicana, went home to glory Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Heritage Oaks West.

She was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Mertens, to Rufus and Evelyn Finch. Beth Bolen was a soft spoken woman, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known for her sweet smile and soft shoulder to any that needed one. Kind words, sympathetic heart, warm hugs, and shared tears describe her best.

Beth married her childhood sweetheart, Bill “Slim” Bolen on Feb. 28, 1942. Together they built a life spanning 60 years. They were devoted to each other, their children, family, friends, church, and community. Beth and Slim Bolen got it right and gave of themselves to others. A member of Northside Baptist Church for over 70 years, Beth was active in her service to the Lord, as a teacher, benevolent worker, and diligent prayer warrior. She and Slim were active lay persons in the Southern Baptist Convention traveling as far away as Australia and Canada, and throughout the U.S. spreading God's word.

Beth gave to the community of Corsicana as executive secretary for the Family Service Department helping those less fortunate than herself for over 30 years. A charter in the American Business Women Association, she was voted “Woman of the Year” and elected as a life long member. She served on numerous community committees, boards, and councils. Tirelessly working for the betterment of Corsicana, she was a “pink lady” volunteer at the Navarro Regional Hospital, where she received her 6,000 hour pin for the countless smiles, greetings, visitor escorts, and assistance, as well as for many Christmas stockings provided for newborn babies.

In her “spare” time, she cooked meals for the sick, the bereaved, and for those that needed it, an extra smile was brought into their home. Whether it was cookies for the Northside Church deacons or a special dish for someone, the secret ingredient was Beth Bolen's love, as represented in the Bible where it says, “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own good works praise her in the gates.” — Proverbs 31:31.

Beth is preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Bill “Slim” Bolen; son, William Andy Bolen; parents, Rufus and Evelyn Finch; sisters, Ruth Watts and Mary Goodman; and by her brothers, Hall Finch and Mutt Finch.

She is survived by her daughters, Anita Fox and husband Terry of Texarkana, Texas, and Marinette Cowley and husband Loyd of Alvarado, Texas; Donald Bolen of Harker Heights, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Flinchum, Amanda Flinchum, Aric Oliphant and Andrew Oliphant; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Corley Funeral Home.

But God in his infinite Wisdom
Saw it best he should go.

One by one our hopes grow brighter
As we near the shining shore,
For we know across the river,
Wait the loved ones gone before.

We could not keep him,
God needed him up there
To make that home complete,
Where shines his glory fair.

Some day we’ll meet you Dear
And the time may not be long.
Till we shall be together,
In that land of joy and song.

Written by one who loved him,
(Daisy)
