GEORGE W. SPEED's PASSING LEAVES VOID IN HEARTS OF MANY
KERENS, April 29. - (Spl.) - Funeral services were held at 3 p.m.
Monday, April 27, at the First Baptist church in Kerens for George
W. Speed, 96, perhaps Navarro county's oldest citizen.
Uncle George, as he was lovingly known by hundreds of friends in the
county and over the state, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, after having
passed his birthday on the 11th of this month, while in a
semi-conscious condition. He had always declared he would live to
reach the century mark, and he came far closer to realizing his
ambition than most.
Born in Williamsburg, Covington county, Miss., in 1846, he came with
his wife the former Elizabeth Burkhalter, and four small children in
1876 and settled in the west end of the county, removing several
years later to Kerens where he passed the remainder of his life.
At the age of 16 he served as a courier during the
Civil War, and
brought with him from the Mississippi home a black mammy slave who
was a wedding gift from her father to Mrs. Speed, and who served and
reared the large family of children.
Survivors include 11 of the 17 children, 36 grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The children are:
Mrs. Lillie Lindsey, Mrs. Martha Spurger, Mrs. Georgia Bain, Mrs.
Maggie Arnett, and Joe, Josh, Charlie and E. B. Speed, all of
Kerens; Rev. John Speed of Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Trudie Mai Hays,
Cameron; Mrs. Essie Bain of Kenedy. Two grandchildren reared in the
home as daughters are Mrs. Audie Sheppard, Brownwood, and Mrs. Betty
Ross, Bryan.
Services were conducted by the Rev. A. E. Harrison, pastor of the
First Baptist church, with interment in the Kerens cemetery under
the direction of the P. N. Stockton Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons; W. L. Bain, Jr., Van Speed, Weyman
Price, Jack Bain of Kerens, George Ross of Bryan, Henry Sheppard of
Brownwood, J. B. Poston of Gladewater, Bobby Hayes of Cameron,
Robert Gilliam of Marshall, Allen Holcomb of Gladewater.
Mr. Speed some years ago served as mayor of Kerens for several
terms, was a director of the First State Bank, and a large land
owner, looking after the interests of his farm until only a few
months ago, and until that time walking from his home in the extreme
south portion of the city to the postoffice and back each day.
His ever smiling-face and cheerful, hearty greeting will be missed
by those in all walks of life, and his going marks the passing of a
familiar landmark, so closely was he associated in the minds of
literally hundreds, with the name of Kerens.
In tribute to his memory the church was filled with floral offerings
sent by the vast multitude who gathered to pay last respects to the
venerable and loveable character, of whom it might be said by all,
“He was a good and just man.”

JOE M. SPEED OF KERENS DIED MONDAY; BURIAL ON TUESDAY
Joe M. Speed, aged 67 years, farmer of Kerens, died in the P. and S.
Hospital Monday afternoon at 5:40 o’clock.
Funeral service will be held from the First Baptist church in Kerens
Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock with Rev. J. W. Ousley, pastor of the
church, in charge. Burial will be in
Kerens cemetery.
A native of Black Hills, he had resided in the Kerens area since
1905.
Surviving are his wife of Kerens, two sons, Monroe Speed, Midland,
and Joe Walter Speed, Corpus Christi; one grandson, four brothers,
Rev. Joe P. Speed, California; E. B., Josh H. and Charles Speed, all
of Kerens; six sisters, Mrs. Ernest Bain, Kenedy; Mrs. John Mayes,
Cameron; Mrs. Lillie Lindsey, Mrs. Will Arnett, Mrs. Will Bain and
Mrs. Jim Berger, all of Kerens, and other relatives.

KERENS, May 27 (Spl.)—Mrs. Lena Stockton Speed, widow of the late M.
L. Speed, died in the Navarro Clinic Sunday afternoon following an
extended illness.
Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church Tuesday
at 10 a.m. with burial in the
Kerens cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Harry Wilbanks, pastor of the
church; Rev. Bert Gillis, pastor of the First Methodist church, and
Rev. Charles A. Reese, Presbyterian minister of Oklahoma, native of
Kerens.
Mrs. Speed was a life-long resident of this community and was a
member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. John B. Coates, Kerens, and Miss
Cynthia Stockton, Oakland, Calif.; five nephews, L. S. Keen, Dallas;
Curtis Keen, Tacoma, Wash.; William Stockton, Omaha, Neb.; Zack
Stockton, Abilene, and John Stockton, Beaver, Pa.; three
step-daughters, Mrs. B. R. Leonard and Mrs. L. W. Dixon, both of El
Paso, and Mrs. Robert Gillian, Marshall; two step-sons, Van Speed,
Kerens, and H. M. Speed, Houston, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be elders and deacons of the Presbyterian church.

KERENS, March 31- (Spl.) - Mrs. Addie Goodnight Speed, 77 died at her
home here Tuesday morning following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the First
Baptist church, of which she was a member, with burial in the
Kerens cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. J. Garland McKee,
pastor.
A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Speed came to the Goodnight ranch east of
Kerens when three years of age.
Surviving are her husband, J. W. Speed, Kerens; a niece, Mrs. James
Taylor, Austin; a grand-niece, Mrs. Walter Wendlandt, Austin; a
great-grand-niece Austin, and other relatives.

left by plane Sunday for home, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. E. B.
Speed, for an extended visit. Mrs. Gattis was called home last
weekend because of the sudden death of her father.

Retired Farmer Rites Monday
KERENS, July 15 (Spl.) - E. B. Speed, 70, retired farmer, died at his
home here Saturday. Funeral services were held from the First
Baptist church Sunday at 5 p.m. with burial in the Kerens
Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Bill Foster,
pastor.
A native of Black Hills, he spent most of his life here.
Surviving are his wife of Kerens; a son, Grady W. Speed, Victoria; a
daughter, Mrs. R. H. Gattis, Burke, Va.; three brothers, Rev. John
Speed, Banning Calif.; Josh and Charlie Speed, both of Kerens; four
sisters, Mrs. W. L. Bain, Sr. and Mrs. J. C. Spurger, both of
Kerens; Mrs. Ernest Bain, Kennedy, and Mrs. John Hayes, Cameron;
nine grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be 11:30 Monday at the Church of the Living God P.G.T.,

Cemetery in the Princeton community. Ross & Johnson Mortuary is in
charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Eddie B. Moye of Corsicana; one
daughter, Jettie B. Haynes and son-in-law, Leroy Haynes, both of
Corsicana; two brothers, Clifton Moye of Los Angeles, and Clinton
Moye of Corsicana; four sisters, Evelyn Washington Johnson of Los

Presbyterian Church for Robert Saunders, 66, resident of Kerens, who
died at his home Thursday morning.
Rev. Don Odell will officiate, and burial will be at
Kerens City Cemetery.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a farmer, and a veteran
of WWII.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Glenn Saunders of Kerens; two
sons, Robert E. Saunders of Duncanville and Joe G. Saunders of
Kerens; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Ann Kuta of Dallas and Mrs. Nina

early Monday morning.
Funeral services are incomplete pending the arrival of relatives.
Native of Kentucky, he came to Texas at an early age and resided in
the Rural Shade community until moving to Kerens a few years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rose Scott, Kerens; five sons, Robert
Scott, Kerens; Sgt. Ernest Scott, U.S. Army, Korea; Johnny Scott,
Corsicana; Joe Scott, Tyler and Sloan Scott, Dallas; three

died at her home in Kerens Sunday.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m.; from the Paschal
Funeral Chapel with burial in the
Kerens City Cemetery. The rites
will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Hodge, pastor of the Methodist
church of which she was a member, and Rev. Don Walker, pastor of the
First Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Robert and Sloan Scott, both of Dallas;
Johnny Scott, Kerens, and Joe Scott, Arlington; three daughters,
Mrs. C. F. Henderson, Kerens; Mrs. H. T. Trent, Arcadia, Calif., and

Lynn "Bitt-Bitt" Averitt, 22, of Madisonville, joined our
Heavenly Father on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.
Brittany was born in Corsicana on July 6, 1990, and was a
graduate of Corsicana High School. She was a senior at Sam
Houston State University and anticipated graduating this May
with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
Brittany was a vibrant, fun-loving person who knew no
stranger. She lived for others and loved her family and
friends more than anything.
She dreamed of one day helping others and looked forward to
making a positive impact on their lives. She was smart,
witty and full of spirit.
Her laugh was infectious, and her smile could brighten a
room. Her time on earth truly embodied Ralph Waldo Emerson's
quote, “It is not length of life, but depth of life.” She
will be greatly missed by all who knew her, who are better
people for having had her in their lives.
Brittany was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin,
girlfriend and friend.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, the late Lee
and Nettie Averitt.
She is survived by parents Dave and Yolanda Fite of
Madisonville, Alex and Lynn Averitt of Corsicana, and Ronnie
Kludy of Kerens; siblings, Alex Averitt Jr. and wife Tammy,
Danny Castillo and wife Tiffany, Kristle Cline and husband
Travis, Jonathan Allen and wife Julie, Andy Kludy and Leanna
Averitt; beloved boyfriend, Oscar Hernandez; grandparents,
Gonzalo and Jesusa Sendejo; Jeannie McQuary, Alan and Diane
Tinsley, Helen Farmer; and many cherished friends.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Marshall Ronnie Mahoney

 Marshall
Mahoney, resident of Corsicana, passed away on Wednesday
morning, Feb. 6, 2013 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village at
the age of 73. He was born on Friday, March 10, 1939 in
Austin to J. C. Mahoney and Katherine Ganze Mahoney. Early
in his life he was raised in Pursley with his mother and
great grandparents, Henry and Rebekah Pursley while his
father served in the United States Navy during
World War II.
After the war his father returned to Corsicana and built
J.C. Mahoney Body Shop where Marshall worked for over 40
years. He joined the Army Reserves in the 1960's and spent
most of his life working until the death of his father in
1987. In later years he spent considerable time tending to
cattle on the family farm. He was a member of the Westhill
Church of Christ where he loved to serve as a greeter.
Marshall enjoyed music and spending time with his pets which
became his children since he never married.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father J. C. Mahoney
in 1987.
Surviving family include his mother Katherine Mahoney of
Corsicana; his sister Rita Dominy and her husband Dan, and
brother David Mahoney and his wife Sharon, all of Corsicana.
There are also a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
dear friends.
Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 6 to
8 p.m. at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9,
2013 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Sam Dilbeck
officiating. Pallbearers will be Wes Dominy, George Ganze,
Glenn Hardin, Larry Moore, Dickie Russell, and Louis Ray
Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Brown, Dan
Gibson, Joe Glass, Paul Green, Charles Henry Harrison, James
Milam, Bud Moore, Dean Murray, and Joe Nussbaum.
Marshall's family would like to thank Dr. William McHenry,
the administration, staff, nurses, aides, and drivers at
Heritage Oaks Retirement Village, and Lighthouse Hospice for
their care of Marshall.
They would also like to thank the American Cancer Society
Navarro Unit and Ruth Nelson for the help with his treatment
process.

Rev. Clay Lile Calhoon, 88, of Corsicana went to be with his
Lord and Savior Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Hope, Ark. to Alvie Madison
and Edith McClanahan Calhoon.
He married Opal Smith in 1945, and they celebrated 65 years
of marriage prior to her death in 2010.
Lile served in the Marine Corps during
World War II and was
wounded in the conflict. God called him to preach at an
early age, and he served at many churches throughout Texas
and Arkansas. He retired from Northside Baptist Church,
Baytown, in 1987 after 24 years as their pastor. He never
stopped sharing about the love of God and the importance of
salvation through Jesus Christ. Even when Alzheimer's had
taken most of his memory he would still stop residents and
staff at Twilight Home to ask them if they believed in Jesus
and wanted to be baptized.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Evelyn
Calhoon Rogers; three brothers, George, Ray and Bruce; wife,
Opal; and son, Randal Clay.
Survivors include his daughter, Debra Bigler of Corsicana;
granddaughter, Melody Brown and her husband Dan of
Corsicana; granddaughter, Misty Faircloth and her husband
Patrick of Fort Campbell, Ky.; grandson, Mason Bigler and
his wife Sarah of Mechanicsville, Va.; and three great
grandchildren, Jasmin Faircloth, Nathan Brown, and Adam
Bigler.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18,
2013, at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope, Ark.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18,
2013, at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home with Bro. Rusty Fuller
officiating.
Internment with military honors will follow at
Rose Hill
Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.

Raymond Christopher Grucholski, 84, of Corsicana passed away
Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
Raymond was born Aug. 21, 1928. He was a retired butcher for
Minyards Grocery Store, and also served in the United States Marine
Corps.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Nora Czekinski
Grucholski; and two brothers, Fred and Kie.
Survivors include sons Mike Grucholski and Kenneth Grucholski;
grandchildren Jason and Justin; and great-grandchildren, Azlan and
Kasen.
Funeral Mass for Raymond Christopher Grucholski will be 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bremond.
Internment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bremond.

Jeffrey, 85, of Baytown passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13,
2013.
Anita was born Oct. 1, 1927 in Pursley to Alvie and Rhoda
Freeze. She was the youngest of five children raised on the
Freeze farm; this led her to be quite the tom boy.
Throughout the years she has entertained many with her
stories of adventure on the family farm, and living through
the great depression.
Anita's favorite hobby was gardening and she was a member of
the Dirt Gardeners Garden Club. She was a long time member
of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. She also enjoyed travel. She
was truly the matriarch of the family, especially after her
first husband passed away. Anita loved her family dearly,
and they adored her. She will be truly missed.
Anita is preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands,
Richard Matthews and Grady Jeffrey; her sister, Nola Jones;
her brothers, Levie, Oliver and Leonard Freeze; great
granddaughter, Kayli Matthews; and two nieces.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and
Thomas Cottar; son and daughter-in-law, David and Vickie
Matthews; step-son, Jimmy Jeffrey and his wife, Karen;
step-daughters, Janice Whitaker and her husband, Joel, and
Debbie Nelson and her husband, Bruce; 12 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Slater and her
husband, Ronnie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013
from 1 to 2 p.m. in the chapel of Navarre Funeral home, with
a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Dr. E. Richard Steele
and Dr. Mark Broussard will officiate. There will be a
graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
16, 2013 at the New Pursley Cemetery in Pursley.

Anita Stewart, resident of Corsicana, passed away on Tuesday

She was born Friday, Dec. 17, 1920 to James Rufus (Jim) and
Etna Stewart in Corsicana. She attended schools in Corsicana
and graduated from Corsicana High School.
She received her bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian
College and her master's degree from North Texas Teacher
University.
She taught for 42 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Church of Christ - Westhill. She taught
classes and worked with the bus ministry.
In 1989 she was selected as Outstanding Older Citizens from
the Texas Department on Aging for her volunteer work.
She was a member of the Navarro County Retired Teachers
Association. She was a member of the Alpha Rho Chapter of
Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, an honorary teacher
organization. She was a member of the Navarro Regional
Hospital Auxillary where she served many hours of service.
She began volunteering at Navarro Regional Hospital on July
30, 1984. She served as President of the Auxiliary from
1992-1993 and 2007-2008. She was the first volunteer to
reach 20,000 hours of serving others in April 2005. She
served on many of the auxiliary committees.
She loved buying for the Gift Shop and going to market,
conventions and district meeting. In 1997 she received the
First Humanitarian Award in recognition of volunteer service
in the community at the hospital. She was an active member
of the Kinsloe House, the Woman's Club House Association of
Navarro County. She was also a member of the Literary Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers,
two of whom were Ferma C. Stewart and Maco Stewart.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Leland Stewart,
Sandra Stewart, Sharon Stewart, Sally Van Gee and husband
Stephen, Paul Stewart and wife Dianne, Mary Randolph and
husband Dennis, Jim Stewart, Terry McElroy and husband Pete,
Chris Stewart and wife Michelle; 26 great nieces and
nephews; 26 great great nieces and nephews and two great
great great nieces.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at
Westhill Church of Christ. Burial will be at Ward Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Stewart, Jim Stewart, Chris
Stewart, Stephen Van Gee, Pete McElroy, Scott Bechtel, Don

Anita Stewart, 92, of Corsicana, passed away on Tuesday morning at

2013 ,in Corsicana.
He was born May 1, 1967 in Corsicana to parents, David
Eugene and Patricia Ann Robinson.
He graduated from Corsicana High School in
1985, and then
attended Navarro College and graduated with an Associate's
Degree in Computer Science. He later was employed with
Navarro College working in the IT Department. He loved to
play golf, throw darts, and was an avid fisherman. He also
had a great love to work on, and had fun drag racing cars.
He was preceded in death in death by his parents, David
Eugene and Patricia Ann Robinson.
Survivors include his wife, Shona Robinson of West;
daughter, Ellesha Heathco of Chandler; son, Easton Robinson
of West; grandchildren, Hannah Heathco, Cheyenne Heathco,
and Tucker Heathco of Chandler; brother, Jim Robinson and

Ruby May Compton, 71, of Corsicana passed away on Wednesday,
Feb.
6, 2013, at her residence in Corsicana.
She was born March 14, 1941, in Memphis, Texas, to parents
Murry and Vera King.
She was a loving wife to Bobby for 54 years and a
compassionate mother to Ronnie. Ruby was also a loved
grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a devout Christian
who lived her entire life with the single goal of doing
God's will. This is illustrated by the fact she born a
preacher's daughter, and died a preacher's wife. She will be
remembered for her loving smile and generous heart. She will
be missed by all who knew her, and will forever be loved by
those closest to her. While we mourn the passing of Ruby,
heaven rejoices at the arrival of a faithful Christian
soldier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers,
Marvin and Willard King.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, the Rev. Robert

Mrs. Carlena Kaye Bingham Hines, age 65, of Corsicana passed away at
Baylor Medical Center in Dallas on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. She was
born to Callie Marie and Carl McClendon on Sept. 8, 1947 in Grayson
County, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl McClendon, and sister,
Rhonda Sue Woolsey.
Kaye is survived by her mother, Callie Marie McClendon of
Whitesboro; her husband, Harold Hines of Corsicana; sons, Chad
Bingham and wife, Amy of Corsicana; Mike Hines and wife, Laurie of
Arlington; Barry Hines and wife, Goldie of Arlington; daughters,
Cassy and Crissy Bingham of San Angelo. She is also survived by
grandchildren; Lyndsey Bingham, Callie Bingham, Ashton Bingham,
Katie O’Brien, Andy Hines, Jordan Hines, Beth Hines, Heather Hines,
and Haley Hines; and great-granddaughters; Sophia and Olivia
O’Brien.
Kaye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She loved bowling and making quilts. She also enjoyed riding horses.
She was active in the Angels Troop Support. Most of all she loved
spending time with her family.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 from 6 to
8 p.m. at Corley Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Imogene “Jean” Diehl left this earth on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 after
a long illness. She left here following Jesus to Heaven, and if she
gets tired on the way, Jesus will carry her and you will only see
one set of footprints in the sand.
She left behind her husband, Bob, who she met at a country dance in
Priddy, Texas. Bob told her they were going to be wed when he
returned from Japan. Sure enough, on Feb. 9, 1958, they were
married.
Jean was born in Indian Gap, Texas on Dec. 4, 1930, to Bertha Hulda
Seider Witte and Heinrich Oskar Gustov Witte. She was the oldest of
11 children.
She left behind many relatives and friends; her daughter, Terri and
husband Billy Ferguson of Corsicana; her son, Bobby Diehl Jr. of
Corsicana, and Granna's only grandchild, Colby Lee Ferguson of
Corsicana. She is also survived by brothers and sisters James and
Joanne Witte of Burleson, Marvin and Sandra Witte of Hamilton,
Leonard and Nancy Witte of Cleburne, Larry and Marilea Witte of
Speegleville, Shirley Bottlinger of Hamilton, Elton and Joanne Witte
of Jacksonville, Fla., Juanita Finch of Sunnyvale, Mary Nell and
Donald Finch of Granger, Janice Allen of Azle, Wanda Fowler of
Cleburne. There were also 25 nieces and nephews, plus many
great-nieces and nephews.
Jean had only been to Texas and Arkansas before she married Bob, but
she went with him during his career with the United States Air Force
to Abilene; London, England; Grand Forks, N.D.; Montgomery, Ala.;
Wichita Falls and Rochester, Minn.
Upon Bob's retirement from the Air Force they spent a year in
Madisonville, Ky. Jean and the children became homesick for Texas in
1974 and they moved to Corsicana. Jean has friends in London and
here in the United States scattered from the Atlantic Ocean to the
Pacific and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border.
She taught Sunday School everywhere Bob went and will no doubt teach
in Heaven.
There will be a memorial service at Faith Lutheran Church,
Corsicana, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the building fun at
Faith Lutheran Church to support God's work.

Junior's favorite thing was to hunt with his brothers. He worked for
Oil City, Chattanooga Glass and was a self employed mechanic until
2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Stanisda Ovalle

Carolyn was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Sylacauga, Ala. to Alva
J. Smith and Hulen G. Smith. She was a loving mother and
devoted Christian. A woman of all seasons, Carolyn was a
homemaker, substitute teacher, published poet, speech writer
and journalist. In 1988, she was awarded an Honorable
Mention and Golden Poet Award for her poem, “Be a Role
Model.”
She was a member of First Independent Baptist Church in
Corsicana.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother,
Obra J.
Moore Jr.
Survivors include her son, Otto S. Carroll Jr.; two
daughters, Shari L.
Carroll and Laurie A. Carroll; one nephew, Obra J. Moore

He was born March 30, 1919, in Roane. He was a U.S. Army veteran,
serving in World War II with the 36th Division. He retired from

three nephews, John Kenner of Powell, Jerry Kenner of Palestine and

Bob Roy Frisby, USAF Retired, passed away Monday, Feb. 18,
2013 at age 85.
Born in Sherman, Texas, Bob Roy Frisby was a proud Hubbard
High School football player and graduate, and Baylor
football player and graduate.
He was a Sgt. In the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in
Germany during World War II, and played football after the
war in Europe with the Army Air Corps. In Air Force Office
of Special Investigations from 1951 to 1968, he commanded
detachments in Orlando, Spokane, and Rhine/Main AFB in
Germany and the OSI District in Greece. He served in
counterintelligence staff positions in Chicago, the
Philippines, and Barksdale AFB. Changing to Security Police
in 1968, he served as Director of Security for 22nd AF,
7/13th AF and Military Airlift Command, including Director
of Presidential Security, retiring in 1975.
He received MA degree in Criminal Justice Administration
from Washington State University, was a graduate of OSI
Basic, Advanced and Specialized Counterintelligence Courses,
Polygraph School, SOS, Armed Forces Staff College and
Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He received the
Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal,
USAF Commendation Medal, two foreign decorations and 14
other U.S.
decorations. Subsequent to retiring as a Colonel in the USAF
in 1975, he formed two consulting corporations, using mainly
Security Police and OSI retirees until he fully retired in
1997.
After retirement, he was very active in community,
charitable, and church activities in Corsicana, serving in
leadership of the Texas Youth Commission, including being
honored as their state volunteer of the year in 1998,
Gideon's International, Corsicana Police and Firemen's Civil
Service Commission, Navarro County Association of Retarded
Citizens, United Fund of Corsicana, and Corsicana Rotary
Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He chaired
Corsicana Civil Service Commission, Navarro County Planning
and Zoning Commission, organizations for battered wives and
families and a ranch for mentally challenged persons.
He was active in St. John's Episcopal Church for many years,
and First United Methodist Church, and was a member of the
choir at both churches.
He was appointed the “Daily Points of Light” Award for Aug.
13, 1998, in recognition for his commitment to connecting
Americans through service to others and the outstanding
example of citizenship that he demonstrated, signed by
Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.
Col. Frisby was married to Martha Montgomery Frisby for 60
years. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2009.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Sherman Fuller and
her husband Jeff, and Amy Wynkoop and her husband Charles,
and grandchildren Rachel Sherman Oliver and her husband
Conrad, Joshua Starling, Alyssa Starling, Anna Sherman, Abby
Starling, Annie Starling, and step-grandchildren Zachary
Fuller, Kelci Fuller, Emma Fuller and Kaylee Wynkoop, and
his aunt, Kyrene Sims, of Hubbard. He was also father to two
sons, Gregor and Mark, who died in infancy. He was also
preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Jones Frisby Revis,
grandfather, Thad Jones, and cousin, Mike Sims, all of
Hubbard.
Visitation with the family will be held at Corley Funeral
Home in Corsicana on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 from 5 to 7
p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at
the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew Rev. Matt
Marshall officiating.
Interment with full military honors will follow in the
Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. Pallbearers will be Joshua
Starling, Jeffrey Fuller, Charles Wynkoop, Ronald Matthews,
Conrad Oliver, Dr. Bob Kingman and David Taylor.

Wiley was born Sept. 15, 1950 in Corsicana to Mr. Wiley D.
“Bub”
Robinson Jr. and Lena Palmeri Robinson. He married Virginia
West on March 26, 1983 in Tyler. He attended Navarro Junior
College and was an employee of Utility Trailer of Dallas.
Wiley loved God, people, country music and old cars. He was
a faithful member of Mid-Cities Baptist Temple. He lived
life to the fullest for as long as he could with a devotion
to country music.
Wiley was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Todd
West.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Robinson; son, Randy
West; sister-in-law Donna Ayers and husband H.D. and family;
cousin, Benny DeGeorge and family; pets, his “girls” Candy
Kiss, Penny Kay and Maggie; and a host of special friends.
Visitation with the family will be 12 noon to 8 p.m.

Paul Kolosta was born in Waxahachie on March 26, 1991 to
Danny and Judy Kolosta.
Alex was an intelligent young man who graduated in the
2009
Class at Corsicana High School and continued his education
at the University of North Texas in Denton for three years.
Alex joined the United States Navy and was stationed at the
Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago, Ill. During
his time in Chicago, Alex volunteered to tutor students in
the local area and served at the local soup kitchen. He
loved to help out others in need, previous volunteer work
also included Habitat for Humanity.
Alex passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at the age of 21
to be with his Heavenly Father and was survived by both
parents, his sister, a niece and nephew, his paternal
grandparents, and various extended family members.
An open memorial will be on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at 11
a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Corsicana. A
private burial for the family will be at the Dallas-Fort
Worth National Cemetery.

Neal Messer, 56 of Groesbeck, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17,
2013, after a long battle with lung disease.
He was born March 13, 1956, in Corsicana to Richard and
Betty Messer. He worked in oil and gas as a foreman over
wells. He loved riding horses and enjoyed hunting, fishing
and playing his guitar.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Messer;
step-father, Bill Prince; and uncle, Earl Carver.
Survivors include his mother, LaRue Messer Prince of Mexia;
children, Lisa Messer and Brittney Messer Wilson, both of El
Dorado, Ark. He is also survived by his long-time companion,
Joy Knotts; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Messer, Matthew Messer,
Tyler Wilson, and Micah Wilson; his sisters, Nada Messer
Barlow of Corsicana, Johnna Messer Donohoe and husband Danny
of Calion, Ark., and DeLana Messer of Corsicana; brother,
Rick Lynn Messer and wife, Robin of El Dorado, Ark.; and
numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and
friends.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Mary Gail (Martin) Price

 Mary
Gail Martin Price passed away in Tyler at the age of 76 on
Saturday, Feb. 16. She was born in Retreat on Aug. 16, 1936.
Mary spent her childhood in Retreat where her family and
ancestors have lived since the 1840s. For most of her
childhood, she played outside with her brother doing all the
things that country kids did at that time. From early on,
Mary exhibited exceptional skill in anything athletic. She
could kick or throw a football farther, hit a baseball
harder, ride a horse faster than any of her mostly male
playmates. She also won many marble games that were played
with a circle drawn in the dirt. Her mother, as many mothers
did in that day, made both she and her brother a little
drawstring bags to carry their marbles around in the pockets
of their overalls.
Mary attended Pickett School for the first three years of
elementary school. In 1946, the Pickett School consolidated
with the Corsicana I.S.D. and she completed her education
there, graduating from Corsicana High School in
1954.
Because, at that time, the Corsicana schools did not have an
athletic program for girls, Mary played the shortstop
position on the girls’
softball team for both the Pursley and Richland communities
for several summers.
Shortly after high school graduation, she went to work as a
legal secretary for two young lawyers who were just getting
their practice started in Corsicana. They were Buck Douglas
and Robert Jackson.
In the early ’60s, Mary moved with her family to the
Bakersfield area of California where her husband was in both
the automobile and the trucking business. They returned to
Texas in 1977. She went to work as the Administrative
Assistant to the Chief of Police at the University of Texas
Health Science Center at Tyler. She worked there until she
retired.
Mary had bought a home located on the grounds of the
Gladewater Country Club. You could step out of her front
door and you were immediately on the golf course. She played
golf there for a number of years and after retirement played
on a daily basis as weather permitted. If she wasn’t playing
golf, she was watching it on TV. She had said once that she
would have become a golf pro had she taken up the game
earlier in life.
We are all grateful that she had an opportunity to truly
enjoy her retirement years doing what she loved to do.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John Thomas Martin
Sr. and Gracie Lee Martin Hollingsworth, as well as her
brother, John Thomas Martin Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and
son-in-law, Joni Gail and John Wood of Longview; her son,
Dave Price of Longview; grandchildren, Audra and Lyle Myers
of The Colony and Cody Stillwell of Longview; two
great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Christian Myers of The
Colony. Other survivors include the father of her children,
David Price of Highland Village; one sister, Polly Martin
Thomas of Retreat, one sister-in-law, Carly Martin of
Shreveport, La., and a very special friend, Willie Ward of
Gladewater. Nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also
remain to remember her.
The family will gather at the Retreat City Hall for
visitation and lunch at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20,
preceding a graveside service conducted by Bro. Bill Honea
at 2 p.m. at the
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Retreat.
All friends and family members are invited to join us there
for a time of remembering Mary and honoring her life.
We, as a family, express our thanks to all who made Mary's
life more complete in any way. We are grateful for your
friendship and pray God bless you everyone. |

Ann Nagy McNabb, 81, of Midland, and previously of
Corsicana, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at her
residence in Midland.
Jo Ann was born May 15, 1931 in Navarro County, and was a
resident of Navarro County most of her life. She attended
Petty's Chapel Schools and graduated from Corsicana High
School. She then attended Navarro College.
On Oct. 16, 1948, she married Bronnie Frank McNabb in
Corsicana. Jo Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
aunt, and sister. Jo Ann's generosity, graciousness, and
wisdom touched so many lives, and her magnetic personality
will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Jo Ann was an active and devoted member of the First Baptist
Church of Corsicana, serving as Director of Median Adult
Sunday School for many years. Jo Ann attended First Baptist
Church of Midland since 2007, and was a member of the
Stephen's Department.
Mrs. McNabb was preceded in death by husband, Bronnie Frank
McNabb; son Bronnie Frank McNabb, Jr.; son-in-law, Kenneth
Graf; parents, Joe Nagy and Helen Toth Nagy; paternal
grandparents, Steve and Johanna Nagy; and maternal
grandparents, John and Annie Toth. She was also preceded in
death by her husband's parents, Homer E. McNabb and Edna
Lewis McNabb.
Jo Ann is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ann McNabb Graf of
Vernon; daughter-in-law, Anna Beth Simmons McNabb of
Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Margaret Anna McNabb of
Charlotte, N.C., James Madison McNabb of Raleigh, N.C., John
Kenneth Graf and wife Cristen; great granddaughter, Kenleigh
Elizabeth of Plano, Christopher McNabb Graf and wife Katie
of Houston; brother, Joe R. Nagy and wife Lou Arnett Nagy;
sister, Linda Stephens and husband Autry C. Stephens of
Midland; nieces and nephews, Paula Thompson, Patti Hill, Lia
Buchanan, Joe Stephens, and Lyndal Greth. Also surviving is

Elizabeth (Erwin) Gunter, 101, of Midland, formerly of
Corsicana, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Manor
Park in Midland.
Ruth was born April 24, 1911, in Irene to E.W. Erwin and
Emma Pendleton Erwin, the fifth of seven children. She grew
up in the Woodbury Community. She met Raymond Gunter at
business college in Hillsboro, and they were married Sept.
30, 1930, in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Ed
Erwin and his wife, Francis. Ruth and Raymond lived on a
farm in the Brandon community until 1945 when they moved to
Corsicana where they remained the rest of their married
life. Raymond died in 2000; Ruth remained in Corsicana until
she moved to Midland in 2008 to be closer to family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers,
Ed, Weldon, and Herbert Erwin, and one brother who died in
infancy; two sisters, Margie (Erwin) Brand and Sylvada
(Erwin) Lewis; grandson Lee McGraw; and son-in-law, Jack
McGraw.
She is survived by two children, Don Gunter and wife Lynda
of Tyler, and Wanda (Gunter) McGraw of Midland; seven
grandsons, Tim McGraw and wife Terri, Scott McGraw and wife
Connie, Kyle McGraw and wife DeAnn, Travis McGraw and wife
Donna, all of Midland, Steve Gunter and wife Liz of Plano,
Greg Gunter and wife Mary Jane of Frisco, and Dr. Jeff
Gunter and wife Lori of Denver, Colo.; 15 great
grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
While in Corsicana, Ruth worked at Adams Hat Factory, Ruby
Hendon Dress Shop and many years at the Fireside Gift Shop.
Ruth was a faithful member of the Westhill Church of Christ
in Corsicana and then the Fairmont Park Church of Christ in
Midland. She spent her life serving and caring for others.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013,
at Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana. Viewing will be
available from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Interment will be at
Resthaven Memorial Park.

 Kenneth Wayne Green, 63, of Powell, passed away peacefully,
surrounded by the family he loved and who loved him dearly on
Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.
Ken was born on June 16, 1950, to the late James C. and Ruby Green
of Dallas. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force in
1968 and was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, La.
There he met his soon-to-be wife, Barbara, on a blind date. Ken
proposed on their second date, nine days later; and they were
married three months later. During their 42 years together,
they owned and operated Falcon Concrete Products in Kerens for 18
years and Hwy. 31 Self-storage for the last 17 years.
Ken was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors, spending his time
chasing after coon and deer. When not hunting, his biggest passion,
next to his family, was the cattle on his ranch and frequenting the
auction in Angus, visiting with his many friends. Those who knew
Ken, were aware that calves on his ranch were never allowed to be
named, because once they reached 600 lbs. their name was “GONE.” Ken
had a love for ranching and was always excited to talk about cows
and pass on words of wisdom gathered from many decades of working
cattle. His favorite past time was trading. Ken was known to buy,
sell and trade with the best of them and continued to pursue the
next potential sale for as long as he was able.
His family joked the only things not for sale, were his wife and two
kids. When not hunting or working cattle he could always be found
with his wife Barbara, either at home, at Falcon or at Bluebonnet.
Ken was most proud of his son, daughter and both of his
granddaughters, whom he taught to be fierce domino players. Ken
never met a child he did not love, was always quick with a joke, and
never met a stranger.
Ken is survived by his wife and soul mate, Barbara Green; daughter
and son-in-law, Emily and Ross Weiner; son and daughter-in-law, Luke

Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013,

Parker Jr.

Richard “Dick” Douglas Parker Jr. was born Oct. 25, 1927 in
Corsicana, the only child of Hazel and Richard Douglas Parker Sr. He
passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013. Dick was baptized into the
saving grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ in September 1939. He
graduated from Corsicana High School in
1944. He attended North Texas Aeronautical College, Navarro
Junior College and the University of Texas during the years of 1944
to 1951. Dick's college education was deferred for a year when he
entered the United States Marine Corps in June 1945, and for another
year when he was recalled from the
Marine Corps Reserves in May 1951.
Nonetheless, Dick was graduated from the University of Texas in
January 1952, and immediately joined Standard Vacuum Oil Company by
whom he was sent to Madras, India as Retail Development Director.
Dick worked in India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines until 1961 when
he joined W. B. Robinson & Co. of Corsicana as a stock broker.
In 1962, Dick formed a buy-out company for Screw Products Dallas
Corporation and was president of that company until his retirement
in 1980. He was also president of Southwest Fastener Association and
vice president of National Fastener Association.
In 1964, Dick married Eleanor Bragg Cocke, his wife of more than 49
years, and together they raised four children while living in
Dallas. Dick was a deacon in Believer's Chapel. He enjoyed
hunting and fishing and has long been an avid Bible student and
shared his faith in Christ.
In 1994, Eleanor and Dick moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
where they were active members of a lively bicultural community.
Dick was involved in charity work, including driving for “Feed the
Hungry,” a non-profit organization committed to feeding 4,000
Mexican school children each school day. The couple also enjoyed an
active social life, playing croquet, taking travel trips to other
parts of Mexico and forming warm and abiding friendships during the
next dozen years before returning to Dallas in 2005.
Dick is survived by his wife Eleanor, and her three children and
their spouses: Robert R. (Mary) Cocke IV of Austin, DeMaret “Dee”
Cocke Childress of Dallas, and James Truman Chaney of Austin, and
five
grandchildren: Robinson Cocke V, Kathryn and David Childress and
Jarod and Whitney Chaney. He was preceded in death by her son
Jackson Chaney of Southlake.
