She is survived by her husband, Joe, and her two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Ron Johnson and Susan and Terry Moore. Betty was known as Nana by her six grandchildren and her seven great
grandchildren: Melissa Henson Sweeney and husband Ben, Amanda Henson, Ryan Henson and wife Ann, Jordan Johnson, David Moore and wife Christina, and Meredith Moore Myrick and husband Tate. She loved and adored her great-grand children: Ella Henson (12), Mary Kate Henson (10), Elizabeth Moore (9), Joan Henson (9), Ethan Moore (7), William Henson (6), and Catherine Myrick (1).

She exemplified the love of the Father through her unconditional love for her family and others. Everyone who met her loved her. She was full of life and adventure. She played golf, rode horses, loved to travel and even learned how to fly. Her family and her faith meant everything to Betty. She is greatly loved and will be missed, but we are thankful to know that she is in the Fathers arms. Proverbs 31:28 Her children will rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Corley Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Terry Moore officiating.

William Montgomery Tatum
May 6, 1850 - Sep 5, 1926

PIONEER BUSINESS MAN PASSED AWAY EARLY HOUR SUNDAY

W. M. TATUM HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF CORSICANA SEVENTY-FOUR YEARS

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock for W. M. Tatum, aged 76 years, pioneer resident and business man of Corsicana, from the First Methodist church, of which he had been a member of the Board of Stewards for forty years or more, with the Rev. C. R. Wright of Fort Worth conducting the services, and Rev. John M. Burens, presiding elder, and Rev. W. R. Beaird, assistant pastor of the church, assisting. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were J. L. Halbert, C. L. Jester, J. N. Edens, Sam M. Kerr, Fred Fleming, R. L. Hamilton, Lawrence Treadwell and J. S. Eubank.

The choir of the church rendered the music for the services, with Mrs. Eugenia Story at the organ, How Firm a Foundation, Abide With Me, And Jesus Lover of My Soul, favorite hymns of the deceased were sung in a touching manner, as tears stood in the eyes of the singers, for Mr. Tatum was a friend of each member of the choir, and for many years they had all seen his face each Sunday in his accustomed place in the church.

Mr. Tatum died at his home, 729 West Third Avenue, at 6:30 o'clock Sunday morning after several days of serious illness. He had been in ill health for some time. He had recently returned from Colorado where he had gone in the hope that the climate there would put him on the road to health again. He was not helped and returned home and had seemed to be gaining in strength when he was stricken with his final illness.

William M. Tatum was born in Murry county, Tennessee, on May 6, 1850, the son of S. L. Tatum and wife, who was a Miss Lee of Virginia, the senior Mr. Tatum being a native of Tennessee also. The family came to Texas and settled at Corsicana in 1852. Mr. Tatum grew to manhood here and later married Miss Georgia Cunningham of Waxahachie, a daughter of the late George Cunningham, pioneer of Ellis county, and one of the largest landowners in that county. Five children were born to this union, one of which, Wister Tatum, died many years ago. He is survived by his widow and four children, C. A. Tatum, G. L. Tatum, Ralph Tatum and Miss Ethel Mae Tatum and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Hilliard and Miss Fannie Tatum, all of Corsicana, as well as several grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives. These were all at his bedside when the end came early Sunday.

Mr. Tatum had been in business in Corsicana continuously for fifty-six years, and at the time of his death was president of the W. M. Tatum Hardware Co Wholesalers, and the Tatum-Cunningham Hardware Co., retailers, as well as being a director in the First National Bank. He was also a member of the Texas and the Southern Hardware Jobbers Association. As a business man he had built up such a reputation for honesty and square dealing that his commercial life was a success from every point of view, as evidenced by the steady increase in business from a small beginning to a business that ranked among the largest of its kind in Central Texas. When Wm. Tatum made a statement in regard to a commodity he offered for sale or in a business deal of any kind, that statement could be relied upon with implicit confidence.

Perhaps nowhere else outside of his home will he be missed to such a great extent as in church circles. For more than forty years he had been a member of the Board of Stewards of the First Methodist church. The length of his membership in the church dates even further back. He was a consistent church member and Christian and has done as much as any man in Corsicana toward the upbuilding of the First Methodist church, not only lending his spiritual aid, but always backing the church in a financial way in every forward move. He was one of the principal benefactors of the Texas Methodist Orphanage at Waco and was a close personal friend of the founder of that institution, the Rev. Abe Mulkey, for many years. He gave liberally to the institution and the little children in that home never had a better or truer friend than he was. He was most unostentatious in his charities, which were many, and cared not for publicity nor the plaudits of the multitude. He was just a good and true Christian gentleman of the true Southern type.

Mr. W. M. Tatum.

The book lies openjust where he last wrote

A heritage that time and faith may keep;
Tho throbbing presses pause, for they, too, know the master is asleep.

The book lies open; turn the written page
For love and time the hallowed records keep;
And memory guards with jealous care her own
The master is asleep.

DAWSONA 90-year-old man who was the object of an area-wide search by law enforcement offices and volunteers Wednesday was found dead near the old Dawson City Lake Wednesday afternoon, according to Pct. 1 Place 2 Justice of the Peace, Aubrey Smith, called for the inquest.

Smith ruled death by natural causes in the death of Gus Hillis. The elderly man was reported missing at about 6 a.m. Wednesday and his body was found by a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter at 1:35 p.m.

The Peace Justice said Hillis apparently wandered out during the night and lost his direction. He was not fully clothed and exposure to freezing weather was probably a cause for the death, Smith said.

Sarah Elizabeth (Young) Barnaby
Nov 22, 1842 - Jan 22, 1919

Obituary.

Mrs. I. L. Barnaby was born Nov. 22, 1847 in Henderson county, Tenn., and departed this life January 22, 1919, at P. and S. hospital in Corsicana, Texas. She came to Texas when only a child with her mother, Mrs. Young. Miss Sarah Elizabeth Young was married to Mr. I. L. Barnaby December 22, 1871 by Rev. W.W. Thomas (notice that she was born, married and died on the 22nd of the month.) To this happy union were born five children, Nancy Maggie who died in infancy, J. M. Barnaby of Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Walter Dubose and W. B. Barnaby of Corsicana, Texas, and Mrs. Lee Frazier of Roane, who survive here and were present to pay their last respects to one who was so near and dear to them for they are now left without father or mother, as their father, Mr. I. L. Barnaby was called away April 15, 1900.

Mrs. Barnaby was a true Christian wife and mother, who became a member of the Methodist church in early life and was a member of the M E Church at Zions Rest at the time of her death. The church has lost one of its truest members, the community one its best ladies and the home its most precious jewel for what is a home without a mother? But dear children and other relatives, as an old and true friend of your mother, let me say to you in this sad hour, do not weep, but rejoice that your mother was a child of God and that she will never have to suffer any more for we know your loss is her gain, for she is now at rest with God and if you will trust in her God to save your souls you can all meet her again some sweet day where there will be no more parting. Mrs. Barnaby was a kind and true friend and was loved by all who knew her. During my thirty years acquaintance with her I can truthfully say that I never heard one harmful word said of her. She was gentle, modest and patient like so many of our aged mothers are, and so few of our younger mothers are that I want to ask her daughters and granddaughters that they strive to be as true wives and mothers as she was, and to ask her children, if they are not Christians to prepare to meet God in peace and as a friend I extend to you my tenderest sympathy. But remember that God alone can comfort you in your sorrow.

Oh weep not loved ones her spirit has fled.
The body of your dear mother is consigned to its cold bed.
Her face once so lovely is for awhile concealed.

Tis sad, indeed sad, that the home once so bright,
Should have ever been clouded with tears or with blight.
But death spreads her wings over cottage and hail
And brings anguish, tears and sorrow to all.

Yet behind the dark clouds the sun still shines bright.
And morn will disperse the dark shades of the night.
And God will then wipe all the tears from thine eyes.
When you meet in the fields of sweet paradise.

Her life was so pure, her nature was love,
She has gone home to our Father above,
Where she sweetly awaits us in mansions of bliss.
Oh! Is not that home far better than this?

A TRUE FRIEND
