Would like to correspond with anyone researching surnames SCARBROUGH and GRIFFIS in Navarro County, especially in Kerens/Prairie Point/Bazette/Independence areas. Also would like information about a preacher, Brother/Elder B. F. (Benjamini Franklin?) ELLIS who married two of my ancestors ca 1887. One of his wives died ca 1889 and is buried at Prairie Point. He may have remarried since a widow of B. F. Ellis received Confederate pension.

Looking for information on the GROSS family. My grandparents were Henry Charles Gross and Carrie Lena HOFFMAN. Children: Millie Marie Gross Buckner (my mother), Bertha, Henry, Aubery and Audrey (twins). Other family names were KING and VALENTINE. My mother's cousin, Abby, worked at the Collin Street Bakery and my great-uncle, Oscar Gross, was secretary for the Navarro Co. Farmers' Milling Assn. in 1901.

My gr-grandfather, Samuel Tolliver HANES/HAYNES lived in Purdon/Pursley of Navarro County when my grandfather was born in 1911. S. T. Haynes had 4 ch by 1st wife (name unknown): Alice, Blanche, Tommy and Jim and Sallie (twins). He m/2 Ella Martha Bollden and had ch: Alfred S., b. 1911 Corsicana; Halbert; Samuel Eugene and Haskel. I think the family may have moved to California during the Depression. Any information will be helpful.

Am tracing my paternal line of DOBBS. Milam Carlton Dobbs was b. Leon Co. Tex. 18 June 1892 but settled in Navarro Co. He married Eula JACKSON and' died 1 Oct 1966. His father/grandfather was John F. Dobbs and mother or grandmother's maiden name was LEACY. I have much information on the Jackson family, but none on Dobbs.

M. married Mary Caroline WHITAKER and had five children; after his death in Navarro County, she m/2 E. NAPIER and moved to Wichita Falls. B. A. MARLOW married Mary Susan HOWE who m/2 James Allen BRADSHAW. Both Marlow men died in their mid-thirties.

Searching for information on the family of George Washington and Martha Ann Butler SMITH who lived Navarro County unknown period of time. One child, Jesse Archibald, was born at Spring Hill 8 Feb. 1876. Other children: Nancy Elizabeth, George Washington, Jr., Amanda Jane, John Walter, Rufus Martin, Thadus Rubin, William Thomas and Ida Mae. G. W. Smith came from Georgia and the family later moved to Mills Co. Tex. where he and wife are buried. I have been unable to get any information on this family so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some of my ancestors lived in Ellis/Navarro Counties between ca 1864-1902. Jacob A. HESSER (b. 1838 Sangamon Co. Ill.) m/1 Margaret H. MARCHBANKS (prob. b. Tenn. 1833). He apparently m/2 Charlotte McKENNEY. An obit for a Maggie H. Hesser printed in the Corsicana Observer in 1874 states she died in Ellis County. One Jacob A. Hesser was living in Corsicana in 1880, per census. Any help appreciated.

After the CW they moved with his parents (John B. and Frances McCULLY PATTERSON) to Freestone and then Navarro County. Robert may have had brothers: Samuel, James, William, John, Joseph and David. Two children of Robert and Harriet PATTERSON: William Hansford PATTERSON, who married Roxie Ann LOPER and Rebecca Isabel PATTERSON who m/1 HUTCHISON and m/2 Charlie BALLARD. I have traced the children's lines but don't know what happed to Robert, wife and parents.

Looking for descendants of my gr-grandfather, John Earl JONES, b. ca 1828, possibly from Norway; believed to have moved to Douglas County, Mo. from Indiana. He m/1 ?; m/2 Elizabeth Jane BRISCOE and their first three children were born Douglas Co. Mo. Sometime between 1877-1884 they moved to Navarro Co. where my grandfather, Ira Benjamin, was born. In 1888, they moved back north but I have been told most of the children from the 1st marriage stayed in Texas. Ch of 2nd marriage: Elmyra, Henry, Lucie, Thomas, Viola, Rozina and Ira Benjamin.

My father, Thomas Warren STORY, 1889-1967, was a son of Thomas J. STORY and Elizabeth Symatie ECHOLS. They had 4 children, 2 living when my Dad was born. The only name I know is a sister, Mary Delia STORY, believed to have married a HALEY. One dau. who died ini 1917 and Mary in 1918. One Bartie STORY died in 1883 and is buried in the Corsicana cemetery. Not much to go on, so any information will be appreciated. Tues 1 June 1999
Elizabeth MILLER lived in Navarro County ca 1854-56; said to be a housekeeper. She was in Limestone County, Tex. by 1860. I am searching for information on Elizabeth and her husband Morgan MILLER. One Morgan MILLER b. 1813, Ky; lived Claiborne Parish, La. 1830-1840; Nacogdoches County from 1846-1850. By 1860 he and sons, Benjamin and John had disappeared (family story is that they were hung as horse thieves).
