Berry, Josiah M.	Private, age 19. He was 6' 12" tall, had gray eyes, brown hair, light complexioned. He was elected corporal on October 19, 1862. He was a farmer. Born 1/9/1843 - Died 2/22/1929 According to his father's bible, he volunteered March 11, 1862. Served with Texas Troops with Capt. Bishop Mounted Cavalry. He used his own horse. He enlisted Feb. 1862 at Dresden in Captain Samuel Wright's Co. Dresden's Texas Cavalry, Company I, 19th Texas Cavalry with Co. N. M. Burford commanding officer. Born 6/13/1835 and died 8/12/1903. Buried at Liberty Hill Cemetery near Dawson.

He was assigned temporarily to the company on Jan 22, 1865 and ordered to his command on June 20, 1865. This would probably have made him about 14 years of age until the time of his actual enlistment on Oct 25, 1864.

In a letter, he wrote from the war he named Joe M Berry, Wash Sims and Dick Smith as being with him an all were well - were searching for conscripts and deserters in the "Brush Country"

Leslie in the 1920 Confederate Veteran, Vol XXVIII, p. 225. Dawson Cemetery, Dawson, Navarro Co., TX. Born 7/31/1837 and Died 2/7/1926. Enlisted April 2, 1862 at Dresden as 3rd Lt. in Captain Samuel Wright's Company, 18th Regiment of Texas Cavalry, under Col. Burford. He furnished his own horse and equipment.
Wright, Samuel	Captain, age 46. He was 5' 10" tall, had blue eyes, gray hair, and light complexion. He was a farmer. Was apparently discharged, or promoted as he was not captain at the discharge on May 25, 1865 Enlisted April 2, 1862 in 19th Regiment Texas Cavalry. Furnished his own horse, value $130 and equipment valued at $25.00. Served as Chief Justice of Navarro County Aug. 1 1865 - Aug. 1, 1866. Born Oct. 27, 1816, he lived at Spring Hill before becoming judge. Served as a captain in the 19th Regiment Texas Cavalry, was ousted as judge by union troops for being an obstacle to reconstruction. He died Nov. 1, 1887 and is buried at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Navarro Co., TX
