1869-1871
The 1870 Spring Hill Census listed J J Cleghorn, born 1830 in Tennessee. He
listed his profession as engineer and was taxed on $1000. (Dr. Key $800..Wm Richey $4000.) His wife was Margaret, born 1833
in Tennessee. Their children ..daughter E A 16..sons D T 13, J A 11, M S 8…were born in Arkansas. Sons J A 5, W age one
month…were born in Texas.
He was
thirty-nine when he took office as Worshipful Master, probably one of the youngest ever to attain the position. He was
enumerated just prior to Robert Harve Matthews, an indication that the two lived near to each other.

and his brother, W A Cleghorn b. 1834, may have moved to Navarro Co from Lampasas. W A Cleghorn II was born in Lampasas Co in
1869 and his mother, Elizabeth, was buried in 1873 at Spring Hill Cemetery. William A Cleghorn II married Sally Sinclair,
born Arkansas.
A W Cleghorn b. 1844 in Tennesse is listed in the 1870 Spring Hill Census. His
wife is listed as “ H O” b. 1846 Tennessee. Their son M I was born 1869 in Texas
M Cleghorn b. 1834 in
Tennesseeis listed in the 1870 Spring Hill Census and had migrated from Arkansas to Texas by 1868/
Martha Cleghorn, born 1855, married James E Follis whose father,
Austin M Follis, lived at Dresden. Their son, John W Follis was born in 1879 and was buried at Silver City, Navarro Co. TX
1940.
James Fullerton b. c1799 Ireland... m. Abigail Lucinda Cleghorn in Alabama, Their daughter Margaret Elvira Fullerton was born
1814. The Fullerton connection may have been what prompted the Cleghorns to settle for a time in Western Navarro Co. John
Henry Fullerton b. 1817 Ireland married Nancy Walker, sister of Brit Dawson’s first wife, and was living in the Liberty Hill
area.
The Cleghorn Family vanished from Western Navarro Co. Some
may have resettled in the area between Austin and San Antonio.
John Cleghorn m. Abigail Scott Jan 15, 1800. John Scott married their daughter, Leticia Cleghorn, dau. of William & Lettice Cleghorn.
