Cpl. Connie E. Holt, son of Edward A. and
Ellen Holt of Dawson, was born in Decatur, Alabama, December 1, 1893. He
was educated in the Navarro County public schools. On October 9, 1917, he
entered the service as a private with Company D. 359th Infantry, 90th Division,
training at Camp Travis. He was later promoted to Corporal. On
February 8, 1918, sailed for France and was transferred to Company F, 18th
Infantry, 1st Division, which division has citations for bravery, etc. Was
in the battle of Cantigny and Soissons, in which later battle he was wounded in
the right arm by shrapnel, July 20, 1918.
