MATLOCK SISTERS, TWINS, AWARDED CLASS HONORS BY FROST HIGH
SCHOOL IN 1929
In the picture above are left to right Miss Clifford Matlock, valedictorian
of the senior class of the Frost High School and her twin sister Miss Phyllis
Matlock, salutatorian of the same class. These girls are the daughters of
Dr. and Mrs. Jno. W. Matlock of Frost. Do they look like "book worms?"
They are anything else but recluses. They were never known to miss a
social function or to pass up opportunity for any kind of wholesome fun.
Throughout their school life they have been active in all extra-curricular
activities. Their power of concentration is somewhat remarkably developed.
They come of a family of children who have maintained a high standard of
scholarships. Miss Miriam Matlock, oldest sister of "the twins" graduated with
honors from the Frost High School and later graduated with highest honors from
C.E.A. at Denton. She has also worked with distinction in the University of
Virginia and will begin work this summer in the University of Texas on her
Master's degree. Dixon Matlock, a brother, graduated with honors from the
Frost High School and is now a student in the University of Texas. There are
three others of the family yet to graduate from the Frost school.
It might be said that the mother of "the twins" has seen to it that the
domestic side of their education should not be neglected. They can sew and
cook like professionals, and when "the servant is out" they frequently take full
charge of the household responsibilities and discharge them with credit.
Commencement exercises will be held Friday night.
