L. W. Rice, born Dec 2, 1827, served the Confederacy as a Private in Winkler's Company I, 4th Texas Volunteer Infantry - The Navarro Rifles.  He was reported sick summer of 1862, Winter & Summer 1863, and Spring & Summer 1864.  He was one of the few who made it all the way through the war, Member of Co I, 4th Texas when surrendered at Appomattox.  Mr. Rice died on July 29, 1905 and is buried in the Dresden Cemetery, Dresden, Navarro Co., TX
