Stewart, James Warren
Stewart, William Augustus |
I have information from my GGrandfather's CSA
pension records that he is buried in Dresden Cemetery. I have been unable to
find information other than the pension with the application for mortuary warrant and his
name listed on a Coriscana funeral home record. There are three unmarked graves next
to my GGrandmother in Dresden but all attempts to contact anyone with knowledge of burials
in Dresden have gone answered. Name is: William Augustus Stewart...(also shown as
Steward and Stuart on War Department Records) was a Pvt Co G, 26th Tenn. Inf (enlisted Aug
28, 1861 - he left this unit and was a Pvt. Co A, 36th Ga Inf (enlisted Jan 15, 1862),
captured at Vicksburg, Ms July 4, 1863, paroled at Vicksburg July 9, 1863. He died
at Graham, Young County, Texas on July 1, 1922. Pension #24526.
I have reason to believe his brother, James Warren Stewart, with whom he served in the Ga
unit, is also buried in Dresden as his wife is buried there. He died in 1914 prior to
getting a pension but I am hopeful of finding his death certificate. Have been
unable to locate William's death certificate....for some unknown reason....probably
another misspelling as I found my grandmother's finally under "Stuart". I
will find it!!!! Plan to visit the Young Co funeral home later this year......which
has buried the "whole" family forever so hopefully they will have some type of
record also.
