Hagle Cemetery

Some months ago I received a request from Betty Bond (Mrs. Ray H) Bostick, [address omitted], San Antonio, Texas, 78209; asking if some private burials could be located and recorded.

She stated that Joseph Hagle, his brother Frank, and a sister, Christine (Hagle) Staaden, came from Germany to the States in about 1846 and settled in the Dawson, Texas area (Navarro County).  She said that Joseph's first wife was buried in a private plot on original Louis Jacob Staaden land, and that there might be some slaves buried with her.  She added that Joseph and his second wife are buried at Brushie Prairie Cemetery.  Joseph Hagle was her great uncle and the great grandfather of Buel Hagle who lives near Dawson and whose family had sold the land on which the plot is located.

After some difficulty and with the help of Mr. Hagle and his mother, Mrs. Floyd Hagle and some others, my brother, Malvin Keathley, and I found the burial spot and what a beautiful find !  The graves are situated in a plot approximately 18' x 20' enclosed with a chain link fence and covered with bluebonnets.   It is on a slight rise and looks down over a wooded area to Navarro Mills lake.   This plot is five miles north of Dawson on FM Road 709 and is aobut 300 yards north off the road.

One grave marked with a large rock headstone and small rock footstone.
