NOTES:
Here is a picture and small story about one old house in Dawson,
Texas. It was there when I was a boy...and I am eighty. It is
one of a collection of more than 130 houses that stand...or...once
stood in that community and were there in the 1930s. Photos of
commercial structures have been made as well...Chester Prater's
Service Station, The Dawson Herald, Walkup's Tin Shop... Does
anyone have a picture of THE GREEN HUT?
See AB DICKSON'S FILLING STATION. Many of the residences still standing...as with THE WHEELOCK HOUSE...were recently photographed. Others have been sent to me from... Des Moines IO....Illiniois... Houston TX....Austin TX.....Tennessee, etc. Their stories ...and pictures...would make quite a book that could be sold by The Ex-Students Association. YOU....can...help. Would you....I know you can...write a brief history about the house/houses in which you lived when you were in Dawson? MORE....if you have pictures of Dawson structures that no longer stand...I would dearly love an inexpensive copy made at Kinkos...Office Depot, etc. And....if anyone has any old abstracts....they contain a wealth of information. I collect originals and copies...That is all I want for Christmas!!!! The HISTORY that can be created will be lost in a few years...LET'S PRESERVE IT NOW! With fond memories of DAWSON, TEXAS. |
