Joe Brown Retires After 43 Years Joe B. Brown Grocery & Market is out of business and veteran Frost businessman Joe Brown is out of a job. But the store itself is certainly
not out of business - just the Brown name is gone. Joe has sold his store to Ray Adames, a former resident of Waxahachie and experienced butcher and groceryman.
Joe may be out of a job, but he is not looking for another. "After 43 years in the store it would seem that I had earned some time off. And that time off is going to be from here on out," said Joe one day last week. He stated that he would be arund the business for about another
month, helping Mr. Adams in anyway he can, and then he plans to do some traveling, fishing & just lazying around. Joe Brown and Lorene Looking bill married in 1928. Both are graduates of
Frost High School. They have two children, Joe B. Brown Jr. of Teague and Mrs. Bobby Jones of Hillsboro. Joe is president of Frost Men's Club, a service organization, and is a member of the City Council where he has
served "off and on" for 15 years. He is a director on the board of The Citizens State Bank of Frost. While still in high school, Joe worked in the grocery store owned by Mr. Young Greer and in 1942 he bought the store. "I've worked hard in the
store, but everything I have done has been in partnership with Lorene. Without her this business would not have progressed as it did." Note: I assume this article came from the Frost
paper but am not sure. It was published in the Nov 2001 Leaves & Branches along with a history of the Brown and Youngblood families. ...elw
