Jerry Horner, 56, of Corsicana, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Wayne Scott officiating. Interment will follow at
Blackhills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eric Murphey, Brett Murphey, Matt Murphey, Justin Gaines, Nathan Gaines, David Williamson, Layton Williamson and Clint McHenry.
Mr. Horner was born July 2, 1950 in Corsicana.
Survivors include wife Wanda Horner; son and daughter-in-law Lance and Tracie Horner of Pursley; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Mike Bruyere of Blooming Grove; mother Margie Chandler of Rice; sisters Debbie and Perry Williamson, Dianne and Tom Marusak, and Brenda Castillo of Rice,

With loving family by her side, Edith went home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 23, 2007. She was born on Dec. 21, 1924 in Dallas.
Edith was a loving wife, a wonderful mother and a model of grandmotherly devotion. She was admired by all her family, her life was an example to all who knew and loved her, and exemplified the type of love our Lord intended. Her children rise up and call her blessed; and her husband
praises her.
Edith and Walter were constant companions since childhood and were rarely apart. They enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage while working,
playing and building a family together.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Lee Bogart, her daughter, Vivian Isbell and husband Robert, granddaughters, Christie Mayer and husband Alan, Allison Rash and husband Todd, grandson, Steven Isbell and wife Amanda, great-grandson, Caide Southard, great-granddaughters, Katelyn
Rash, Sydney Rash and Caris Mayer. Sister-in-laws, Pearl Beaty and Effie Peters and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Annie Beaty, stepmother, Mary Padgett, sister, Jean Souther and brother, Calvin Dennis Beaty.
Edith graduated from Dallas Crozier Tech and retired from LTV Corporation.
Pallbearers will be Caide Southard, Steven Isbell, Alan Mayer, Todd Rash, Bobby Grantham, David Brundige, Jim Mullins and Gene Hathorn.
Visitation will be held today, June 25, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at 2 p.m., at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Max Rash and the Rev. Chris Moody officiating. Graveside serves will follow at
Eureka Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters Linda and Kenneth Currington of Levelland and

Damon Laton DeMoss, 69, of Corsicana passed
away Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Chapel with

Pallbearers will be Donald DeMoss, Joey DeMoss, Stan DeMoss, Steve DeMoss, Phil
DeMoss and Jackie Coker.
Mr. DeMoss was born May 30, 1938 in Eureka. He was married 51 years to his best
friend, Ann. He retired and worked part-time at P&S Pharmacy. When not working
he could be found crappie fishing, catfishing, hunting and at Mildred softball
games, which he loved. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by
everyone who knew him. He was one in a million.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evie DeMoss, brothers Jack
and Buck DeMoss, and his sister, Bonnie Douglas.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; son Randy DeMoss of Euless; daughters Debbie
and her husband Mackey Shofner of Corsicana, and Donna King of Palestine;
brother Lawrence DeMoss and his wife Doris; sister-in-law Catherine DeMoss of
Corsicana; brother-in-law Robert and Sheila Betterton of Ben Wheeler; seven
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a
host of friends; and his best pal, Stretch.

Jayne Joyce Baker-Saetre, 84, passed away Thursday night, June 21, 2007,
at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. She was born Nov. 11, 1922, in
Ponca City, Okla., to Joseph and Mabelle Claire (Watson) Donahue. Mrs.
Saetre was retired from the State of New Mexico as personnel director.
She had lived in Waxahachie since 1998, moving from Los Lunas, N.M. She
was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, The Century
Club and Widows Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Vincent Baker Jr.;
second husband, Oywind Saetre Jr.; and a sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Dani Muckleroy of Ovilla and Paula
Sears and husband Gary of Dawson; grandchildren, Anne Rickabaugh, Mark
Rickabaugh and wife Angela, Linea McPherson-Larson and husband Dave,
Annjennette Tucker and husband Brian, Michelle Sears, Becca Murray and
husband Ricky; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Willie Ray Sims of Corsicana passed away at the Twilight Nursing Home on June
22, 2007 at the age of 63. He was born in Curry, Texas on Jan. 10, 1944. He was
a lifelong member of Unity Baptist Church. He is survived by his brother
Clarence David Sims of Dallas, brother Robert Sims of Hurst, brother-in-law
Lavon Hull of Angus, and his beloved companion Jane Adams of Corsicana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eula Sims, sister Christy Jo
Hull and brothers Rufus and Johnny Sims.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery

Edward Hughes passed away on Friday, June 22, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital
in Temple after a short illness. Eddie as he was known by the family,
Tex or Cowboy to his friends, was born on June 1, 1948, in Dallas to
Thomas F. and Margaret Regina Hughes. He was the 15th of 16 children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Susan, three brothers
and two sisters.
Eddie was employed by the City of Corsicana Parks Department for the
past four years.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina; sons, Chuck and Nicholas of
Spartanburg, S.C., Chris of Cave Junction, Ore., and Timmy of Abilene;
granddaughters, Kiah Kershaw and Kiernan Kershaw of Spartanburg, S.C.;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Nancy Hughes of Graham, Joe and
Barbara Hughes of Cherry Hill, N.J.; Mike and Barbara Hughes of Bedford,
and Johnny and Sandra Hughes and Tim and Jan Hughes, all of Corsicana;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Bill Sorrells of Granbury, Jean
and Ted Vickers of Fredricksburg, and Dodie and Donnie Barbee of
Abilene; brother-in-law, Sid Foster of Wichita Falls; and sister-in-law,
Sharon Hughes of Sheridan.

Mary Ruth (Woodring) Formby, 95, a resident of Corsicana for 71 years,
the last 11 as a resident of Heritage Oaks, passed away Thursday, June
21, 2007 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at
Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with
B.F. Risinger Jr. and Bill Honea officiating.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Mrs. Formby was born July 28, 1911 in Plainview. She was a member of
First Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She was a director of the
4- and 5-year-old Sunday School Department for more than 40 years. She
sang in the Solid Rocker Choir for many years, along with being active
in the Woman’s Missionary Union. Her love of church work led to many
mission trips to Haiti, Canada and places throughout the United States.
She was a homemaker until her children were grown, and then she worked
as a kindergarten teacher at the State Home. She attended Navarro
College to further her education. For 14 years, Mrs. Formby worked as a
manager of Parkway Marble and Granite Co., selling and designing
monuments. The Formby monument design was chosen to go in the “Rock of
Ages” memorials, a book done by Norman Rockwell, and was included in his
publication. She treasured the certificate of merit from him. For 10
years, she worked as a nurse’s attendant at Navarro County Memorial
Hospital, where she fell in love with small babies.
When her children were in school, she served as an officer for many
years in PTA. Later, she was president of the City Parent-Teacher
Organization. She enjoyed her work as an auxiliary member at Navarro
Regional Hospital. Ruth served as president of that auxiliary from
1989-’90. She was a charter member of the Altrusa Club, the group that
started the program of Food for Fitness, better known as Meals on
Wheels.
Ruth was known for her beautiful art work in china painting and oil
painting. She loved to paint and give her paintings away. Many people
across the community have beautiful pieces that she painted. She taught
china painting for several years. Along with her painting, she was an
accomplished musician. She played for years at the church and the local
nursing homes. At 95 years of age, she was still playing the piano for
the residents where she lived. Before health problems, she loved to
travel. Her travels took her to many places all over the world.
Memorials can be made to the Building Fund, First Baptist Church, or
Alzheimer’s Association. A special thanks to the Heritage Oaks staff for
the wonderful care given and to Pat Watkins, her caregiver for the past
year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, C.B. and Ruby Woodring;
husband Andrew Franklin Formby in 1973; grandchild Andrew James Formby;
great-grandchild, Colton Lee Knauth; sisters Christine Bristow, Doris
Sturges and Wanda Westmoreland; and brothers Willard Woodring and Lee
Woodring.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Bill Formby and wife Katrine of Austin,
and Ed Formby and wife Joanne of Corsicana; daughter Patty Knauth and
husband Calvin of Eureka; grandchildren Jim Formby and wife Carol of
Bedford, Tim Formby and wife Kim of Steuben, Maine, Donna Hair of
Corsicana, Amy Cook and husband Michael of Eureka, and Kurt Knauth and
wife Michelle of Eureka; eight great-grandchildren; five
great-great-grandchildren; brother Wayne Woodring of Dallas; and
numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

James Robert Black of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Navarro
Regional Hospital at the age of 89. He was born on July 20, 1917, in Murchison
to Frank C. and Carrie Mae Black. He was one of nine children. He was preceded
in death by his parents, sister Myrtle Edwards, brother C.F. Black, and his
beloved wife China E. Dubose Black.
He married China Dubose during the Depression years on Dec. 25, 1936, and they
were married 69 years. He lived in Roane and worked at the cotton gin for John
Bryant. In 1940 he went to work for Mobil Oil (then Magnolia Oil Company)
driving a truck for 10 years, then he was a tapping machine operator. His last
10 years he was a station operator in Corsicana Pump Station and retired after
42 years in 1982.
He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Solid
Rockers choir, a deacon and volunteer at the Family Life Center. He was also a
mason.
Mr. Black is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, China and Freddy Drew of
Katy; his sisters, Florence Peabody, Thelma Graham and Carrie Powell, all of
Corsicana, Doris Hansen of Harlingen, Katie Nowlin of Sulphur Springs and Mary
Anderson of Harlingen; sister-in-law, Velma Black of Farmers Branch; and many
nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Corley Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. and Brother Bill Honea officiating.

and Ada Bell Lane. She died April 1, 2007 in Texarkana, TX.
She had resided in Texas for 14 years and lived her last 4 years at Pleasant
Manor Nursing Center in Ashdown, Arkansas where she was loved and cared for by a
wonderful staff.
She was a member of Faithview Baptist Church in Saucier, MS.
Ms. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Simmons of Gulfport, MS,
two sisters, Mattie Morris and Audie Faye Cruisenturner and one brother J. W.
Lane.
She is survived by four children, Robert Pinkston of Bakersfield, CA, Glenda
Elliott of Brownsboro, TX, Kathy Peterman of Saucier, MS and Glenn Simmons of
Gulfport, MS. Eight grandchildren, Aaron and Emily Pinkston, Scott and Todd
Elliott, Brain Matheny, Beth, Joshua and Gentry Peterman; one sister JoAnn
Myers; two brothers, Calvin and Robert Lane all from Snyder, TX, and many loved
ones and friends.

He was born Nov. 6, 1905 in Wortham, and was a retired store clerk for the
Rock Island Railroad. He was a member of the First Christian Church, had been a
resident of Teague for most of his life, and was a member of the Boggy Masonic
Lodge of Teague.
Survivors include a son, Forest C. Irwin of Houston; two daughters, Lenora
McSpadden of Harker Heights, and Patricia Watson of Wildwood; one sister,

Alvin Lynn Brunson, born Feb. 19, 1939, beloved husband, father,
grandfather, brother, uncle and devoted friend, joined his Heavenly
Father, and departed his family on Wednesday, June 26, 2007.
He passed away after his battle with cancer, which he fought with great
strength, dignity and exceptional courage. He was preceded in death by
his mother and father, Addie Lee and Leroy Brunson; brother, Thomas and
twin brother Calvin; and special uncle, Thomas Brunson.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Sandra; his children and
their spouses, Kim and Dennis Draper and Brandon and Stefanie Brunson;
grandchildren, Micah, Cristan and husband Dennis, Tyler, Jaime, Austin
and Mason; great-grandchildren, Reagen, Reanna, Brooklyn, Riley and
Cash; special second mother, Aunt Mae Brunson; mother-in-law, Ophelia
Twomey; in-laws, Carol Harvath, Tommy Twomey, Patsy Brunson and Jeannie
Brunson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, his special friends
and buddies at Cedar Creek Lake, and his devoted dog Scooter. He was a
friend to so many and loved by all who knew him.

Mrs. Hall was born March 30, 1917, in Frankston.

Henry was born July 13, 1918, in Flovilla, Ga., to Augustus Loyd Higgins and
Annie Funderburk Higgins. He retired from the Post Office maintenance department
after 40 years. He was a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alyne, in October 2004.
Survivors include his children, grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and
other relatives.

Worsham Pryor, age 83, left this world on Sunday, June 24, 2007, to join our
risen Lord and his beloved wife Odera. His joyful spirit, friendship and love
will be missed dearly by those he touched.
Worsham was born to George Elmer and Eula Mae Norwood Pryor on Jan. 11, 1924, in
Corsicana. He grew up in Corsicana where he went to high school. He served
dutifully in the U.S. Army during World War II and later lived most of his life
in Odessa working in the oil and gas service industry.
After retiring, Worsham moved to Austin to be closer to his family. He is
survived by his son, Randy Pryor of Austin, and his daughter, Loretta Pryor
Bruce of Burleson. He is also survived by his grandsons, Allen and Bryan Pryor,
and granddaughters, Shanna Clark and Shealynn Schank, as well as his beloved
great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kristen, Sarah, Andrew, Lauren and Rachel.
Services for Worsham will be held at 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home Chapel
in Corsicana. Interment will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Robert C. Walker, 101, of Corsicana passed away Monday, June 25, 2007,
at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.

Robert was born June 22, 1906, in Kerens to Pete Walker and Tennie
(Jackson) Walker. Robert’s father passed away when he was 2 years old.
When he was 12, his mother passed. At this time he went to live with his
uncle and aunt, H.R. and Emma Harrison, in Corsicana. Emma and H.R. had
two sons, Roy and Preston. Also, his cousin, H. Thomas Adams, lived with
the family. Robert considered Roy, Preston and H. Thomas his brothers.
Robert graduated from Corsicana High School in
1942; attended Abilene
and graduated from Draughons Business College in Dallas, and Navarro
College.
In 1921, Robert was baptized at the Church of Christ on 18th Street in
Corsicana. This congregation later moved to what was known as Fifth
Avenue Church of Christ. The Fifth Avenue congregation relocated to
College Hill. After the building burned, he attended services at West
Side Church while the building was being rebuilt. That church was
renamed Westhill and Robert returned to worship here. He was a faithful
member of the Church of Christ for 83 years. Robert married Gertrude
Watkins on Feb. 11, 1933, in Corsicana. They have been lifelong
residents of Corsicana, with the exception of the years 1942-1943.
During this time, Robert was stationed with the U.S. Army in La Jolla,
Calif., and served as an ambulance driver. They celebrated their 10th
wedding anniversary while they lived in California. Robert owned and
operated the Bob Walker Candy Company for many years, retiring in 1982.
Robert ranched on land he owned in Powell and Eureka.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Walker of Corsicana; his favorite
niece, Beverly Watkins of Austin; nephews, Barry Watkins of Austin,
Charles Bell of Dallas, Larry Bell of Benton, Ark., Fred Waters of San
Antonio and Richard Waters of Austin; brother-in-law, E. Page Watkins
and wife Ruth of Corsicana; and a number of cousins.

Gladys Beasley, 89, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, of congestive heart failure at
the Heartland Nursing Home in Austin. Services were held at Cedar Creek Lake
United Methodist Church in Tool at 3 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007.
She was buried in Resthaven Cemetery in
Corsicana. Services were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven
Points.
Born in Montague, Texas, she married R.D. Beasley on Sept. 5, 1936. They were
married 63 years, eight months, 10 days when R.D. passed away. She is survived
by three children, James Beasley of Dallas, Tobye Burgin-Braun of Evergreen,
Colo., and Sandy Fivecoat of Austin; nine grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Beasley started Beasley Real Estate in Cockrell Hill and later in the Cedar
Creek Lake area, where she moved with her husband in 1974. She was also a
charter member of Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church and past president of
the Cedar Creek Lake Women's Club.
Mrs. Beasley lived with a gift of joy that she willingly shared with everyone
around her. She prided herself on her family, her marriage, and her involvement
with her friends and church. She leaves a legacy of laughter with her family,
including water skiing with her grandchildren when she was 65 and riding a
scooter with her grandsons when she was 87. All of her family called her when
they needed a good joke to tell. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and
loved her.

Scholarship Fun at Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church.

Anna Geneva Henderson Bonner was born Feb. 4, 1920, to Virginia and John
Collier at Blooming Grove. She left the arms of her loving family to be
with the Lord at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at her home in
Corsicana.
She is survived by three daughters and one son, Betty Spencer and
husband John of Fort Worth, Judy Nelson and husband Wayne of Corsicana,
Glenda Beller and husband Gary of Houston, and John F. Henderson and
wife Susie of Navarro. Her family includes 15 grandchildren, 30
great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, a number of nieces
and nephews, and two dear sisters-in-law, Charlene Collier and Lillian
Rhodes.
She was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church, where for many
years she was involved in the Care Center Ministry. She also prepared
meals for Wednesday night suppers and for Meals on Wheels.
As a vibrant, outgoing mother, grandmother, and friend, she was an
inspiration to all, and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her
dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, William L.
Henderson; by her second husband of 13 years, Oliver Bonner; and by
three grandsons, William Michael Nelson, William Clyde Henderson and
William Graham Cunningham. Also preceding her in death were eight
sisters and two brothers, Edna Smithen, Emma Sherman, Georgie Duncan,
Dora Kagler, Clara McGraw, Mary Kagler, Gladys Mahone, Nannie Ruth
Collier, Howard Collier and Tommy Collier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral
Home.

Mr. Criddle was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Corsicana. He was a faithful member of
Eastside Church of Christ and a Sunday school teacher and associate minister. He
was an educator for 33 years serving in the Houston ISD as assistant principal.
After retiring, he worked as a substitute teacher for Corsicana ISD. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He served as a physical training
instructor at Ellington Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Criddle Sr. and Rubie Criddle;
two sisters, Tennie Chimeny and Eula Juanic Criddle; and one brother, Willie
Criddle.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bettye Criddle; three sons, Lee Criddle Jr.
(Eugenia) of Missouri City, and Harvey Criddle and Gregory Criddle, both of
Houston; one daughter, Blynthia Scott of Houston; two brothers, Tyrone Criddle
and Lee Warren Davis of California; two stepsons, Robert Gerard Reynolds

Hospital. She was born on July 13, 1924, in Minden to Willie and Eunice Moore.
She was a homemaker with many agricultural talents, which she employed on the
family farm. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1942 at Henderson
High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove.
She is survived by her son, Mike Bryant of Blooming Grove; and daughter, Kathy
Elaine Bryant of Blooming Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, J.T. Bryant; and a brother, Cleburne Alvin Moore.

MARSHA (MARCIE) EVELYN LITTRELL
Marcie, to those who knew her had just turned 68 years old in March. She made
her homeward journey to be the Lord and her loving husband on Thursday, July 5,
2007.
She was born March 4, 1939 in Washington D.C., daughter of Clifford L. and
Evelyn Schneider. She graduated from Annapolis High School, Annapolis, Maryland
in 1956. Marcie then went to work for the Defense Department in Washington, D.C.
While there she worked on the Mercury Space Project. Later, she would move to
Dallas to work for Texas Instruments where she met and married Ray Littrell on
August 15, 1966. She would later attend Grayson County Junior College where she
received Honors in Real Estate. Marcie loved singing as a child and went on to
be a gifted writer and gospel singer, she would write and sing in the Assemblies
of God Church in Haworth, Oklahoma. Her poetic gifts in writing would make her
one of the accomplished writers for the Mockingbird Chapter of the Poetry
Society of Texas in the 1980’s. With her many talents, she also was a bookkeeper
assisting her husband in the Longhorn Propane business until his health
prevented him from continuing and then she was instrumental in the early
development of what is now known as the Microsoft Gaming Zone. Even though
Marcie was a private person she endeavored in many aspects of her life to give
encouragement to all those that knew her.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter. Lee-Edward Sr. and wife Ann Littrell
of Corsicana, TX. Vincent Littrell of Corsicana, TX. and Kay and husband Larry
Schipper of Berry, TX. 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, numerous
nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death buy her loving husband, Ray Littrell, Father and
Mother Clifford and Evelyn Schneider, several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, and
both sets of Grandparents.

Dian, born March 1, 1943, in Dallas to Adele Henry Booth and James
Randolph Booth, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2007, after a
nine-month battle with cancer. Dian was preceded in death by her parents
and beloved grandmother Nannie (Della Rice Henry).
Dian graduated from Highland Park High School in 1960 and attended Texas
Tech University, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. She later studied
art history, photography and psychology at SMU and Eastfield College.
After careers in modeling, banking, and retail, Dian and her husband
Mike founded and operated Sanders & Associates. Throughout her life, she
was a committed volunteer with the Junior League of Dallas, Dallas
Woman’s Club, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Opera, Dallas Symphony
Orchestra, The Salvation Army, Pastoral Counseling and Education Center
Ambassadors, and most importantly the Presbyterian Women at Highland
Park Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Mike A. Sanders; her two precious sons,
Darren Blanton and wife Julie and Brett Blanton and wife Cheryl;
cherished grandchildren, Eva, Luke, Mia, Jack, Claire and Samantha
Blanton; former husband, Barry Blanton; stepsons, Mike Sanders Jr. and
Todd Sanders and wife Joy; step-grandchildren, Colton and Chloe;
brother, Pat Henry Booth and wife Amy; mother-in-law, Daliah Sanders of
Center; and brother-in-law, Chet Sanders and wife Betty. She was dearly
loved by cousins and devoted friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Highland Park
Presbyterian Church, Main Sanctuary.
Honorary pallbearers will be Julian Buenger, Tom Deakins, Louis Francis,
Sandy Henry, David Taylor, Jim Vandermeer and Paul Willey.

Marie Nelvine (Stumpf) Hopkins, 98 years old, a resident of Corsicana for 30
years, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at Heritage Oaks West Nursing Home.
She was born April 14, 1909, in Maple Lake, MN. Her family moved to California
in 1925. In 1928 she married and had one son in 1930. They moved to Loa Angeles,
CA in 1937. She started to work at North American Aircraft in 1942 and retired
after 35 years and moved to Corsicana in 1977 to be with her son, Alvin Earl
Hopkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Josephine Stumpf, husband
Roy Earl Hopkins, daughter-in-law Shirley Mae (Smith) Hopkins, sister Cecelia
Krona, brothers, Leo, Vincent, Henry, and Irving Stumpf, grandson Kenneth Rae
Hopkins, and granddaughter-in-law Caroline Claudette (Awalt) Hopkins.
She is survived by her son, Alvin Earl Hopkins, sister Lorraine Richardson,
granddaughter Suzan and husband Richard Beasley, with great granddaughters
Crystal and Cindy Beasley, grandson Steve and wife Denise Hopkins with great
granddaughter Caitlyn Hopkins, grandson Patrick and wife Suzett Hopkins with
great grandsons Kenneth and Kaleb Hopkins, and great granddaugher-in-law Cerra (Awalt)
Hopkins.
She will be cremated and there will be a close-family graveside burial at
Resthaven Memorial Park.

H. ‘Hooter’ DeChaume
William H. “Hooter” DeChaume, a resident of Corsicana, passed away
Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his home at the age of 62 years.
He was born June 26, 1945, in Corsicana to E.V. DeChaume and Nora Mae
Capehart DeChaume. He was an active outdoors person who loved to hunt
when he was younger. He would like to go for rides with no certain
destination in mind. At one point in time, he was probably one of the
best mechanics around, working on race cars and later on heavy
equipment, whether at the construction site or on a tractor trailer when
drove a truck. He especially loved his grandchildren, taking them to
Wal-Mart shopping, where if you could fit it into the basket you got it,
until the basket was full. He was an example to his family of how to
work hard and take care of your own family, and how to treat others with
respect.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Ray DeChaume;
sister, Mamie Louise DeChaume; and double cousin, Jody DeChaume.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Erlene Price DeChaume of
Corsicana; children, Becky Dozier and husband Billy of Corsicana, Scott
DeChaume and wife Hope of Corsicana, and James DeChaume of Corsicana;
adopted daughter, Betty “Beb Beb” DeChaume of Corsicana; grandchildren,
Chris Dozier, Kristen “Sissy Mae” Dozier, Kevin Dozier, William Ray
DeChaume, Avery “Mae” DeChaume and Preston DeChaume, all of Corsicana;
sister, Betty Rousey of Corsicana; and numerous nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, other
relatives, close friend Tommy Walters, and a host of friends.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with
Brother Grady Cashion officiating. Interment will follow at
Grape Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Bowling, Dennis Terrell, Harry Owens, Ray

The Rev. Robert Lee Shaw, 84, of Corsicana passed from this life and went home
to be with God. He passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007, at VA Hospital in Waco.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral
Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. David Edwards
and Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at
Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Shaw was born May 24, 1923, in Konowa, Okla., to Samuel Lee Shaw and Jewell
Lorinda Ensey Littleton Shaw. His was a life of service to his family, to his
country and to his church. His father, Samuel Shaw, died when Robert was 11
leaving him to take care of his mother and younger siblings. He joined the
United States Marine Corps in June 1941 and was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7. He
fought in the South Pacific Islands until he was wounded and evacuated on Guam
in July 1944. He received the Purple Heart. He received the Pearl Harbor
Survivors Medal, Sharp Shooters Medal and several other battle medals and stars.
He married Valara Gaile in 1946 and was ordained a Baptist minister in 1947. He
served as pastor of several churches in Oklahoma and North Texas. In 1958 he was
ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. The last 10 years of his life
were spent in the VA Hospital in Waco, where he was given the most kind and
loving care.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Samuel Luther Shaw; and
sisters, Venita Shaw and Delores Reeves.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Valara Gaile Shaw; daughter and
son-in-law, Delora and Rick Harding; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Lee and
Carolyn Shaw; grandchildren, Richard Harding and Heather Valene Shaw; sister and
brother-in-law, Alice Lou and Ben Owens; sister-in-law, Geneva Parker and
husband Glen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Lawrence was born Oct. 5, 1902 in Hubbard. At
the age of one, Mrs. Lawrence moved with her parents to the old Wright homeplace
in the Liberty Hill Community of Navarro County. As a child she joined the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Liberty Hill and in later life moved her
membership to the Dawson Cumberland Church. She was educated in the schools of
Liberty Hill and Dawson. Mrs. Lawrence worked as a saleslady at Beasley's
Drygoods Store and at Culbrith's both in Dawson.
Mrs. Lawrence married Rober Q. Lawrence on Sept. 3,
1925. His maternal grandfather was Britton Dawson, for whom the town of Dawson
was named.
After their marriage, she became a homemaker.
In later years, she became very active in the Liberty
Hill Cemetery Association. The land for the cemetery, church and school was
given by her great grandfather, Samuel Wright. She spent long hours of time and
effort in obtaining a Texas Historical Marker for the cemetery and wrote the
narrative for the marker. She was a secretary-treasurer of the Liberty Hill
Cemetery Association for several years. She was also active in the Ladies Aid
Social in Hubbard and held the office of Parliamentarian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger
Lawrence in 1971; parents, Robert Daws and Nellie Dove Wright; sisters, Mary
Nell Bennett, Jo Anna Soupiset and Alice McNeil, and brother, Robert Daws Wright
Jr.
She is survived by daughter, Betty Sullins of Dawson;
sister, Sidney Blount of Hamilton; grandsons, Dale Sullins and Lonnie Sullins;
great grandsons, Stephen Sullins, Derik Sullins and Colbie Sullins; great
granddaughter, Laura Sullins; nephew, Floyd Blount Jr. and great niece,
Stephanie Bennett.

Mr. Bolen was born March 3, 1921 in Pursley. He was
a member of Northside Baptist Church for 55 years, where he served as a deacon.
He was a lay missionary in Australia, Canada and Alaska with the Baptist General
Convention. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Alaska and
Florida.
He was preceded in death by sisters Anita Bolen, Edna
Flynn and Alyene Murray; brothers Bob Bolen and George W. Bolen; and son William
Andy Bolen.
Mr. Bolen is survived by his wife, Beth Bolen of
Corsicana; sister Barbara Bruner of Fort Worth; sister and brother-in-law Lessie
and Hub Ganze of Powell; daughters and sons-in-law Marinette and Loyd Cowley of
Duncanville and Anita and Terry Fox of Texarkana; grandsons and wives Aaron and

Carolyn Sue “Nana” Fulton Langley, age 63, of Italy,
Texas, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007, in Ennis. She was born Oct. 28, 1943,
in Lone Cedar to W.C. “Bill” and Sallie Leona (Parks) Fulton. She married Melvin
J. Langley on July 2, 1971, in Corsicana. Carolyn loved to go camping and play
dominoes on the computer.
She is survived by the love of her life, Melvin of Italy; children, Tony Langley
and his wife Tracy of Lampasas, Vickie Williams and her husband Clay of New
Caney, Leona Fowler and her husband Steven of Italy, Christy Antle and her
husband Darren of Waxahachie, Talmadge Langley and Emily Langley and James Lee
Finley, all of Italy; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; son-in-law,
Luis Arnold Aparicio; special friends, Margaret Poe and Joyce Helms; brother and
sisters, William Fulton of New Caney, Margie Beets of Red Oak and Laverne Branam

Sarah Mildred Sutherlin, 96, of Corsicana went home to be with her Lord
and Savior and soon coming King on July 18, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Annie Fuller; infant
daughter, Evelyn Maxine; brother, Ira T. Fuller; grandson, Gilbert
Sutherlin Jr.; and her beloved husband of 69 1/2 years, Gilbert H.
Sutherlin.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert W. Sutherlin of Angus; daughters and
sons-in-law, Wyvonne and Joe Ivie and Delores and Glenn Prater, all of
Corsicana; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, six
great-great-grandchildren; her church family and a host of friends and
relatives.
From a young age she always loved to work in the church. Through the
years her church activities included teaching, women’s ministries, VBS,
choir and other positions wherever needed. She was a praying servant of
God. She set a Christian example for her family and to all who knew her.
She was a member of Calvary Worship Center where she attended
faithfully. She will be greatly missed. Her hobbies included sewing,
working in her garden, and planting flowers. She loved to read the
Bible, Christian books, and health books.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton
Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Calvary Worship
Center with Dr. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at

Mr. Clemons was born April 8, 1917, in Pursley to Robert Benjamin and

Force during World War II. For many years he was an active member of the
Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and Kiwanis Club and was a lifetime member of
the Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Olin Clemons, Curtis Clemons,
Everett Clemons, Wendel Clemons and Buddy Clemons; and two loving wives,
Clara (Cooper) Clemons and Mildred (Forsythe) Bruce Clemons.
Survivors include his son, Jim Bruce of Dawson; two daughters, Deborah
Ann Walls of The Colony and Bobbie Gail Tanley of Houston; two
stepdaughters, Carolyn Bruce Wiley and Betty Almond; five grandchildren,
Matt Tanley of Houston, Scott Tanley of Houston, David Lee Walls of The

Daphna Jean Able, 85, passed from our lives on July 12, 2007, after
recently being diagnosed with colon cancer. The family of Daphna gives
thanks for the blessing of her life and her love as mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and aunt. She was a generous and kind-hearted woman
who always thought of her family first and foremost.
Her parents, five sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
She is survived by her only child, Kay Harrison and husband William of
Rice; two grandsons, Joseph Gambill and wife Amy and Christopher
Harrison of Rice; two great-grandsons, Seth and Garrett of Ferris;
great-niece, Kim Vielma and family of Corsicana; great-nephew, Jim
Pickett and family of Stroud, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and
friends.
She was a breast and ovarian cancer survivor and, in lieu of flowers,
the family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful ICU nurses at Navarro
Regional Hospital, Jamie, Sandy and Shammy, for the care and compassion
given during her brief stay.

Cecil T. “Buz” Brown, 61, a resident of Corsicana, passed away Friday,
July 13, 2007, in Corsicana. He was born on Feb. 22, 1946, in Oklahoma City,
Okla., to Veta Brown and Cecil T. Brown Sr.

Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Shugart and the Rev. Leroy Reeves
officiating.
Mr. Brown was a service technician with Northland Cable for 37 years. He served
his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the
Vietnam War. He was a member of Church in
the Park and Wesley Methodist Church. He was actively involved in the Corsicana
Youth Baseball Association as a coach and commissioner for many years. He was an
avid gun collector and also loved to fish.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil T. Brown Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Sharon Brown of Corsicana; his
mother and stepfather, Veta and Robert Elrod of Macon, Ga.; three sons and their
wives, Chad T. and Lindsey Brown, Blaine G. and Kelly Brown, and Cecil “Teddy”
Brown, all of Corsicana; seven grandchildren, Chad Timothy Jr., Courtney,
Carmen, Peyton, Jaxson, Zac and Sam Brown; brothers, Richard C. Brown of

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Moore Land, in 1997; and by son
Larry Richard Land in 1999.

and Eva Ellis Dycus. He went to school at Navarro High School. He
followed many career paths but spent about 30 years as a machinist for
an oil field supply company and later enjoyed about 15 years in his last
career as a barber in his own shop. He was a member of the International
Association of Machinists, and served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II.
Robert was a member of the Williams Road Baptist Church and had served
the church as a deacon in previous years. He was a 33rd degree-Mason,
York Rite, Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a past Worshipful Master
of Cooke-Peavy Masonic Lodge. As a Shriner, he derived a great deal of
pleasure in participating in the Flying Fez where he made more than 60
round trips to take crippled and burned children to the Houston and
Galveston Shrine Hospitals. He was also a member of the Ridglea Chapter
of the Order of the Eastern Star and had served as worthy patron with
his daughter Donna, as worthy matron in the Denton Chapter of OES.
He always had time for family and friends and he loved to travel and
meet new people. Taking an active part in his children’s lives, he had
served as Scout master and as Rainbow Girls Advisory Board member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Robert Ford Dycus; and
grandson, Robert Douglas Ross Montgomery.
Survivors include sister, Sue Garen and husband, Bob of Tyler; brother,
David Dycus and wife, Linda of Corsicana; children, John Ford Sr. and
wife, Linda of Arkansas, Robbie Montgomery and husband, Douglas of Fort
Worth, and Donna Dean and husband, Albert of Corsicana; grandchildren,
John Ford Jr., Jaina Ford, Linda Dean and Donald Dean; and eight
great-grandchildren.
