Hardy Eugene Fluker

AGED CONFEDERATE AND LEADING FARMER OF COUNTY PASSES
H. E. FLUKER DIED AT FAMILY HOME NORTHEAST OF CORSICANA MONDAY

Harry Eugene Fluker, aged 90 years, Confederate veteran, resident of Navarro county for 59 years, one of the best known farmers and citizens of the county, died at his home, five and one-half miles northeast of Corsicana, Monday morning at 7 o’clock after an illness
of a few days, and the funeral will be held at Oakwood cemetery Tuesday morning at 10:20 o’clock. Interment will be made in Oakwood cemetery on the family plot beside his wife who died two years ago. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Lewis E. Dugger, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.

Mr. Fluker came to Corsicana Nov. 21, 1871 and moved to his present home where he has since resided, except a short time he lived in Corsicana. He enlisted in the Confederate army at the age of 17 years, and served during the entire war in Company B. 43rd regiment of the Alabama Infantry.

Soon after the close of the war, Mr. Fluker was married to Cornelia McCammon in Alabama, and moved to Texas, arriving in Corsicana on the first passenger train to arrive here.

Surviving are three children, Perry Fluker, Joe Fluker and Mrs. George Denbow, and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

FUNERAL SERVICES TUESDAY MORNING FOR H. E. FLUKER

Funeral services for Hardy Eugene Fluker, aged 90 years, native of Alabama, Confederate veteran and pioneer resident of Navarro county and Corsican, who died at his home about six miles northeast of Corsicana Monday morning at 7 o’clock after a short illness, were held at
Oakwood cemetery Tuesday morning at 10:30 o’clock where interment was made. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lewis E. Dugger, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.

Mr. Fluker came to Corsicana Nov. 21, 1871, on the first passenger train to arrive here. He enlisted in the Confederate army when 17 years of age and served with Company B 43rd Alabama infantry.

Soon after the close of the war, he married Cornelia McCammon in Alabama, and they later moved to Navarro county.

Surviving are three children, Joe Fluker, Tupelo; Perry Fluker, Roane, and Mrs. George Denbow, Roane; and a large number of grandchildren and other relatives.

Pallbearer were the following grandsons; Clarence Terry, Lee Denbow, Finnis Fluker, Harry Fluker, Percy Fluker, Glenn Earle Fluker, Will Hardy Fluker, Terry Fluker, Clay Fluker, Eugene Fluker and Winston Fluker.

Honorary pallbearers were Confederate Veterans and friends.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Henry Robbins, Mrs. Albert Guess, Robert E. Layton and Lloyd Kerr.

The funeral was directed by the Sutherland Funeral Home.

PIONEER RESIDENT OF NAVARRO COUNTY BURIED IN OAKWOOD

MRS. H. E. FLUKER DIED WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT HER CORSICANA HOME

Mrs. H. E. Fluker, aged 81, years resident of Navarro county fifty-seven years, died at her home, 1213 West Fifth avenue at 10:30 o’clock Wednesday night and the funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock with burial in Oakwood cemetery.

The services were held at the home and were conducted by the Rev. David Shepperson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.

Mrs. Fluker is survived by her husband; five children, Perry Fluker, Roane; Brady Fluker, Richland; L. K. C. Fluker, Hester; J. H. Fluker, Hester and Mrs. George Denbow, Roane; a brother D. K. McCammon, Corsicana; a half-sister, Mrs. Hattie Molloy, also of this city; twenty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Born in Chester District, South Carolina, in 1847, with her parents she later moved to Alabama. From Alabama the family moved to Navarro county, Texas, being among a party of 30 arriving in Corsicana on the first train to be run over the Houston and Texas Central railroad in 1871. The family settled in the Hester community where they resided until several years ago when they moved to Corsicana where they now reside. She was the daughter of Perry and Harriett McCammon and was married to Mr. Fluker sixty-one years ago.

Mrs. Fluker was well known throughout Navarro county where she has hundreds of friends who will be genuinely grieved to learn of her death. She was a consistent Christian who practiced her religion in everyday life and the happiness of others was her main source of pleasure. Of sturdy pioneer stock she took an important part in the early history of Navarro county and was prominent in the religious and social circles of her community for many years.

Another sad incident in connection with the death of Mrs. Fluker is the fact that one of her sons, Brady Fluker, is reported critically ill at his home in Richland with little hope for his recovery.

Gene Odell Cain
June 19, 1934 - May 1, 2012
 

Gene Odell Cain, born June 19, 1934 in Bynum, peacefully ended his battle with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Betty Cain, and a brother, Pat Cain.

Gene is survived by his wife Glenda Cain; sons, Monte Cain and wife Paula of Corsicana, Michael Cain and wife Trudy of Mexia; daughter, Janet Crist and husband Bryan of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Amy Pickett and husband Josh of Grand Prairie, Drew Cain and wife Jennifer of Katy, Peyton Cain, Jill Cain, Audrey Cain, Keith Mack, and Melody Mack; great-grandson, Mason Pickett; and sister, Lois Millard and husband George of Bynum, Texas.

Gene graduated from Bynum High School in 1953 and attended Abilene Christian University. On Dec. 30, 1955, Gene made Glenda Scott, the love of his life, forever and always, Mrs. Gene Cain. Gene and Glenda made their life together in Corsicana, where Gene used his “never-knew-a-stranger” demeanor and savvy business mind to become a successful independent businessman. However, no matter how much business there was to be done, Gene always put his family first. Gene also leaves behind many dear friends with whom he shared countless early morning cups of coffee, discussing anything life threw their way.

Gene and Glenda have been members of Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana for many years, actively giving back to the community through their work with the church's Care Center.

Clifford Barton
June 21, 1916 - Apr 27, 2012

Clifford Barton was born in Scurry, Texas on June 21, 1916 to the parents of Sam Barton and Rosie Alexander Barton. He professed his faith in Christ at an early age. He became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1972 and served as a faithful deacon until death.

Deacon Barton retired from Oil City Iron Works after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed life to the fullest. His favorite past times were watching the Texas Rangers and going to Brookshire's to talk to the customers. He kept his mind sharp with many hours of word search puzzles and walking one mile a day. His love for his family was always shown through conversations, an encouraging word or smile. We will miss his quick wit and “I love you” but we have comfort that he is resting with the Lord. He departed this life on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the age of 95.

Brother Barton was proceeded in death by his loving wife Willie Mae “Baby” Barton; his son, Clifford “Sam Bo” Barton, Jr.; Joann Barton, infant daughter; and his sisters, Katie Mae Barton and Bertha Mae Campbell.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sister, Ruby Nell Newton, Indianapolis, Ind.; children, Madison Stein of Corsicana, Edna (Harry) Barton Helton of Fort Worth, Cathryn (Kevin) Cole of Euless, Ruby
(Hollis) McFail of Corsicana, Bertha Bonner of Dallas, Thomas Barton of Santa Rosa, Calif., William Barton of San Louis Obisbo, Calif., Chester Barton of Los Angeles, Linda Mason of DeSoto, and Sherrye (Joe) Willis of Euless. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson, Darryl Michael Walters, both of Santa Rosa, Calif., Michael Ellison and LaTonya (Alqasem) Richardson of Grand Prairie, Sarita (Derrick) McDade of Kerens, Patrica (Billy) Reese, Alice (Charles) Hervey Robinson, Ronald (LaMonica) Barton, all of Corsicana, Willie Hervey of Woodville, Carla (Byron) Hervey of Ennis, James Earl (LaCretia) Bonner of Corsicana, Andrenette Bonner of Dallas, Ursula (Quinton) Bonner of Dallas, James Barton, Linda Barton, April Barton and Billy Jean Barton of Santa Rosa; as well as 32 great-grandchildren, 40 great, great-grandchildren. Deacon Barton is also survived by one niece, Dr.
Rose Marie Hatchett and her family (one son, two daughters, and five grandchildren of Indianapolis), one great-niece, Charlette Barton; two great, great nephews, Bishop D.L. Barton, and Jermaine Harris; two great, great nieces, Jessica Ward and Larita Harris, and one great, great, great niece, Jativia James all of Corsicana; and The Mt. Olive Church family of 40 years and a host of other friends.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. A. Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery.

Norma Jean (Farmer) Watkins
Sep 10, 1925 - May 2, 2012

Norma Jean went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. She was born in Navarro County on Sept. 10, 1925 to Otis Warner and Rachael Bell Farmer. Norma Jean attended Emhouse schools where she met her sweetheart, Dewey Carmack Watkins. On Jan. 14, 1944, they began what would turn into a 68 year marriage.

Norma's family always enjoyed her and Carmack's fond memories of Mr.
Bill Watkins taking them into town by horse and wagon on a muddy, cold January day to be married and then being dropped off at the local Boarding House for their honeymoon. They started and raised their family in Corsicana. Norma was a giving mother that also worked at Adams Hat Factory for a few years as well as being a board certified teaching cosmetologist. She always looked forward to spending the hot Texas summers caring for her children along with helping to raise her brothers, Johnny, Jimmy, and Charlie Farmer and her nieces, Lynda and Vicki Farmer. Norma enjoyed sewing, shopping, and traveling with her husband all over the world on exotic big game hunts. While cooking was not at the top of her favorite things to do, she loved to receive accolades from her grandchildren when she would make sweet treats for them. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church for many years and worked serving others in the kitchen as well as Vacation Bible School.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Randy Farmer.

She is survived by husband, Carmack Watkins and their three children, Ronald Watkins and wife Barbara, Janice Watkins King, and Jerry Watkins and wife Kay. Norma was blessed with eight grandchildren; Scott Watkins and wife Jeri, Brett Watkins and partner Nick, Brandye West and husband Tom, Keri Wright and husband Kyle, Kory King, Jason Walsh, and Ashley and Lane Watkins. She was delighted when great grandchildren started arriving and was blessed with six of them; McKenna and Caleb Watkins and Kathren, Magdalen, Lilliann, and Gwendalen Wright.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Services will be at Northside Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Pallbearers will be Scott Watkins, Kory King, Kyle Wright, Jason Walsh, Tom West and Lewis Palos. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandson, Brett Watkins and brothers, John Farmer, Jim Farmer, Charlie Farmer.

Eula Lee Nichols Petty, 92, of Corsicana passed away May 2, 2012, with her family at her side.

She was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Navarro County. She was a housekeeper/caretaker for a number of years in Dallas and Corsicana.

She is preceded in death by her faithful husband of 57 years, Charlie (Buck) Petty; and her daughter, Barbara Lavon White.

Survivors include her children, Furmas Buford Petty of Sanford, Fla., Steven Ray Petty of Corsicana, and Donnie Charles Petty of Danville, Fla.; one sister, Wanda Ruth Holloway; one brother, Loyd Nichols and wife Birda of Waxahachie; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, in the Chapel at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Stone officiating.

Rev. Harvey Leon Hallmark

Rev. Harvey Leon Hallmark, 80, of Mexia left his earthly home to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012.

Harvey Hallmark is a name familiar to many people all across Texas and parts of New Mexico. He was born Oct. 15, 1931 in Corsicana to Harvey Clarence and Ruth Melton Bunch Hallmark. He moved to Mexia early in life. Harvey worked his way through high school delivering newspapers and working at gas stations. As a young man, he served as Corporal in the United State Army.

Harvey began singing and playing the guitar at a young age and became an outstanding musician and vocalist. In the early 1950's, he formed a quartet, “The Town Talkers,” and they performed around the Mexia area for several years. In 1960, he rededicated his life to God and was called to preach. He attended Southwestern Assembly of God College and became an ordained minister. He pastored churches in Lancaster, Bellmead, Littlefield, Mineral Wells, Corsicana and Mexia.

In addition to preaching, he also worked at Corsicana State Home and Mexia State School. Harvey played an important role in the individual lives of clients and employees of MSS with his smile and guitar. He introduced many to Jesus through his music and devotionals. He traveled all across the country with the Sunshine Singers choir, as well as spending many hours providing nursing home residents with singing and preaching.

Harvey shared his gift of music, teaching many to play the guitar. He loved people and never met a stranger. Every morning, he hit the floor running to join his McDonald's coffee group. He always had a joke to tell although he didn’t always remember the punch line. Harvey was a loyal sports fan. He loved the Mexia Blackcats, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Harvey lived life to the fullest and was even able to attend his church, The First Assembly of God, last Sunday.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clinton Allan Hallmark.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Grace Hallmark of Mexia; children, Donna Duckworth and husband, Cloyd of Corsicana, Taloa Willis, Harvey Clinton Hallmark and companion, Barri Uhl and Bryan Hallmark and wife, Cindy all of Mexia; grandchildren, Jeffery Willis, Candice, Alan, Joshua and Nathaniel Hallmark and Corey Wedgman.

Visitation with the family will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Dr. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Mexia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrell Tweedle, Danny Tweedle, Freddy Tweedle, Howard Tweedle, Johnny Killingsworth and Tim Edwards.

Virginia Ruth (Franklin) Lilly
Mar 16, 1932 - May 3, 2012

Virginia Ruth Lilly, age 80, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2012. She was born on March 16, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant. She was affectionately known by many as “Grandmolly.” Virginia was kind to everyone and had a mischievous sense of humor that made her a joy to be around. She loved her family deeply and was happy to be a great-grandmother. She also had a special place in her heart for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lois and Louise Franklin.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Harold Lilly; daughter, Kay Lilly Cook and husband Byron; granddaughter, Katie Cook, and granddaughter Ginne Davis and husband Josh; and great-grandson, Lee Byron Davis. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Maydeene Davlin of Omaha, Texas and many nieces and nephews and special friend and caretaker Sherry Tollefson.

Virginia graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. After graduation, she began her career in the insurance business at Mitchner and Leftwich Insurance Agency where she retired after 35 years. Virginia and Harold moved to Corsicana in 1999 to be close to their daughter and her family.

She was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she especially enjoyed participating in the ladies game day on Thursdays. She was also an active member of The Newcomers Club which she joined when they moved to Corsicana.

Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Byron Cook, Josh Davis, Bud Davlin, Nathan Nash, Jeff Nelson and Wayne Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Allard, Jim Roy Brown, Dale Campbell, Ed Formby, Ken French, Jim Henry, and Jim Hodge.

Amanda (Yates) Martin

Amanda Yates Martin, 70, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Trisun Care Center in Corsicana.

She was born Aug. 31, 1941 to Alfred and Ezelle Yates in Montgomery, Ala.

Amanda moved to Corsicana when she was in the fifth grade. She attended Corsicana schools and graduated in 1959. She married Finis Martin on Feb. 22, 1960, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Mrs. Martin was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her two grandsons were the light of her life. She loved them dearly. She was a member of Westhill Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and special nephew, Marty Yates.

Survivors include her husband, Finis Martin of Corsicana; and one daughter, Kala Reamy and husband Ryan; special grandsons, Ross and Rick Reamy, all of Kerens; one sister, Freida Payne of Tyler; and brother, Sonny Yates of Angus. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana and the memorial service will follow immediately at 3 p.m.

Ola Mae (Leyendecker) Sykes

Ola Mae Sykes, 87, of Corsicana passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at her residence in Corsicana surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1924, in Dawson to parents, Annie Mae and John Thomas Leyendecker.

She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a longtime member of Calvary Worship Center which she had a great love for her Lord, and was an awesome Christian example to her family and friends. She was employed with Wal-Mart for many years and later retired from there to help her daughter, Alisha, in her Affordable Affairs catering business.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kenny Dyer; son-in-law, John W. Armstrong Jr.; and six brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, J. D. Sykes of Corsicana; daughters, Patricia Armstrong of West Columbia, Sondra Dyer and husband Kenneth of Corsicana, and Alisha Greer and husband Dan of Corsicana; six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Clemons of Pursley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Dr. Gary W. Johnson officiating.

Billy Frank “Chick” Whistler passed away peacefully, Friday, May 4, 2012, in Flower Mound after an extended illness.

Chick was born on Feb. 12, 1947, in Fort Worth. He was the younger of two children.

Chick was graduated from Corsicana High School in 1965. He attended Navarro College and Northeast Louisiana University–Monroe.

Chick is a proud member of the undefeated 1963 AAA State Champion Corsicana Tigers football team. He was an accomplished athlete, lettering in multiple sports high school. Chick was an avid golfer.

Chick served his country proudly during the Vietnam conflict in the U.S.
Army. After military service, he pursued a professional career in manufacturing and became a successful independent businessman in the Dallas area for many years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynda; brother, James; and father, John.

Chick is survived by his mother, Othell Hunt; son, Wade and wife Courtney; and grandchildren Owen (4) and Lyndey (2) of Lantana, Texas, as well as son Colby of Carrolton. He is further survived by many relatives, friends, and teammates.

Visitation and viewing was 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35E, Carrollton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Rhoton Funeral Home.

Jerry Lee “Snake” Morehead Sr. passed away on Saturday evening, May 5, 2012, at his residence with his family at his side after a hard fought battle with lung cancer at the age of 58.

He was born in Corsicana on June 27, 1953, to Troy Lee Morehead and Katherine Poteet Morehead. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1971 and married Vicki Bowden on Nov. 22, 1972, in Corsicana. He retired from Jetco Chemical where he worked as a lab technician. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish the local lakes and was a member of the Calvary Worship Center in Corsicana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Katherine Morehead; and his best friend, Johnny Baker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Vicki Bowden Morehead; their children, Hanna Morehead Phillips and husband David of Forney, and Jerry Morehead Jr. of Corsicana; grandchildren, Blake and Lanna Phillips and Eve Morehead. Survivors also include his sister, Barbara Kubicek and her husband Buddy of Barry, and Gary Morehead and his wife Linda of Corsicana; sisters-in-law, Angie Sterns and husband George of Johnson City, and Teri Clakley of Whitehouse; and a brother-in-law, Danny Bowden and wife Barbara of China Springs, and a number of extended family members.

Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral services for H. L. Chambliss, 85, retired carpenter, were held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Corley Chapel. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Revs. Clayton Lewis, A. F. Duke, Vernon E, Liertey and C. N. McDonald.
Chambliss died at his home in Hillsboro early Saturday morning.

For S. P. Story
Funeral services for S. P. Story, 76, who died Friday at Wichita, Kansas, were held Monday at 10:30 a. m. from St. John's Episcopal church. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. The rites were Conducted by Rev. Fred C. Wolf, rector.
A native of Angus, Story was employed by this newspaper for more than a half a century. He was the last surviving: charter member of the Corsicana typographical union organized in 1900. He was an Episcopalian and a Knights of Pythias.
Story served this newspaper as printer, linotype operator, telegraph editor and proof reader. Declining health caused his retirement three years ago and following the death of his wife, he went to Wichita, Kansas, to be with his daughter. Mrs. Jon Henderson.
Surviving are a son, Major Dan A. Story, U. S. Air Force, Elmendorf Field, Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Mrs. Henderson, Wichita, Kansas, and five granddaughters.
Pallbearers were Boyce Martin, Paul Moore, C. B. Haley, Roy C. Love, Dick Anderson. E. C. Sears, L. A. Wortham, Lowry Martin, H. T. Robinson, Daily Sun Staff, members of Typographical Union No. 234, Knights of Pythias and friends of the family.

Walter Norton Hanks, 63, formerly of Corsicana, died about noon Sunday in the Veterans Hospital at Kerrville following a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Griffin chapel, with the Rev. W. M. Shamburger, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was at Oakwood, with Masons in charge of graveside rites.
A veteran of World War I, Hanks is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Terry of Dallas, and Mary Alice Hanks, Hobbs, N. M.; two brothers, Hays Hanks, Houston; and Joe Hanks, Corsicana; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Roberts, Corsicana; his mother, Mrs. Alice Covington of Corsicana; two grand children, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The rites will be conducted by Rev. John Wesley Ford, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which he was a member.
Born in Tennessee, Nov. 1, 1855, Caldwell was a bookkeeper for the Armour Company and the Drane and McKee Garage for many years before moving to Blooming Grove.
He had resided in Austin for a number of years. Surviving are a son, Major Beverly C. Caldwell, Austin; a brother, M. C. Caldwell, Fort Worth, and other relatives.

Mrs. Delia Molloy, 88, widow of the late W. H. Molloy, died at the family home, 202 South Thirteenth street, early Saturday morning.
Funeral services will be held from the McCammon Chapel Sunday at 2 p. m.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. James L. Bridges, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church of which she was a longtime member. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Mrs. Molloy was born, July 18, at Hillsboro, Tennessee, and had resided in Corsicana 60 years. She was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.
Surviving is a niece, Mrs. J. R. Sivess, Dallas.
Pallbearers will be W. P. McCammon, Raphael Levine, Clint Bell, R. D. Hamilton, Murry Basham and Howard West.

Funeral services for Mrs. T. E. Mower, 98, former Corsicana resident, were held Tuesday in Tulsa.
Interment was made in Oakwood cemetery here immediately after the body arrived on the 10:34 a. m. Wednesday southbound Rock Island Lines train.
Mrs. Mower died Tuesday in Tulsa, Okla.
Surviving are a son, Robert L. Mower, Tulsa, and a granddaughter.
The family was at the H. T. Sparks home, 1119 West Fourth avenue, following the interment.

DIED SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Had Been Resident of Corsicana For Many Years.
Will Molloy, son of the late Henry Molloy, for many years, proprietor of the Molloy Hotel here, died at his home 507, South Eighteenth Street, late Saturday afternoon, and the remains were interred in Oakwood yesterday afternoon at 6 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. W. T. Ingram of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and Frank Kerr, Dr. J. B, Cooksey, Aaron Ferguson, Will Coker, E. R. Glover, H. C. Nash and Rev. Burgess acted, as pall bearers. There were numerous flowers and many friends attended the services at the grave. The deceased was fifty years of age and had been in ill health for many months. He was a good citizen, and had many friends here where he had spent practically all his life. His widow und numerous relatives survive.

Mrs. Hattie Molloy, 81, a resident of Corsicana since 1871, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Thames, 206 South Twelfth street shortly after noon Saturday, and funeral services are planned at the Sutherland-McCammon funeral chapel at 420 West Sixth avenue at five o'clock Sunday afternoon, with interment
in Oakwood cemetery.
Mrs. Molloy was born in Wilcox county, Alabama, Oct. 1, 1856, and came to Corsicana with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry McCammon in November, 1871. On August 28, 1879, she was married to the late R. B. Molloy, to which union three children were born, one of which died in infancy.
Surviving are two children, D. Molloy and Mrs. Thames, both of Corsicana; three grandchildren, Mrs, Henry Alvin, Mrs, Phil Upton of Kermit, and Miss Harriett
Thames of Corsicana and a number of nieces and nephews.
She joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church as a young lady, and was active in work of the church for many years.
Pallbearers will be J. M. McDaniels, Roy Thompson, Will Thompson, B. T. Delahay, Cecil Foster and H. R. Smalley.
Honorary pallbearers will be officers of the Cumberland Presbyterian church.
Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home will have charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Molloy was one of the best-loved women in Corsicana and up until a few years ago, when the infirmities of age and failing health forced her to curtail
her activities, she went about dong good in a quiet and unostentatious way and there are many in Corsicana who can testify to her great goodness and
charitableness.

Funeral services for S. Alan Molloy, 44, native of Corsicana, 5701 Winding Creek Road, Houston, who died suddenly Sunday, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. with burial in Oakwood cemetery.

Molloy was connected with the Small Business administration, a federal agency.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Olive Molloy of Houston and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Homer Cox, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist Church.

Mrs. Molloy suffered a broken left wrist Monday at the home of her brother, C. L. Humphreys, 918 South Eighteenth street, and was admitted to Memorial hospital.

Pallbearers were W. A. Lang, Dr. Robert Lang, J. E. Davant, James Smith, Newt Carson, Walter Earl Parker and Ernest Moore.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1925 in Barberton, Ohio, to parents, Jay W. and Blanche Secrest.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jay Watson Secrest; mother, Blanche Secrest; sister, Eleanor Brockman; brother, Robert Secrest.

Survivors include her son, Jon Ketcham of Corsicana; and nieces, Beverly Martin of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Barbara Neff of Sharon, Penn.; and her cat, CJ.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Rice to Maurice and Frankie William Knott. She married Travis Harrell on June 7, 1960 in Corsicana. They were happily married for 51 years.

Survivors include her husband, Travis Lee Harrell; a son, Billy Harrell and wife Lisa; a daughter, Debbie Donnell and husband Jake; a brother, Billy Gene Knott; a sister, JoAnn Stewart; a grandson, Christopher Harrell; four granddaughters, Angie Neal, Jennifer Farmer, Molly Dardar and Leia Harrell; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by many.

Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home.

Msgt. (Retired) Neal Francis Sparks of Corsicana passed away peacefully in Arlington on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the age of 81.

He was born on June 5, 1930, to Webster Francis and Majorie Wilburn Sparks in Patroon, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 59 1/2 years, Lolly Frances Sparks of Corsicana; their five children, Michael Sparks and wife BachCuc of Houston, Denise Reed and husband Fred of Killeen, Wayne Sparks and wife Janet of Arlington, Kevin Sparks and wife Jeanette of Corsicana, and Kenneth Sparks and wife Julie of Missouri City, Texas; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Webster Ivan Sparks of North Carolina.

Neal had many interests and inexhaustible energy. Neal's careers included a 20 year career in the service of his country in the United States Air Force, followed by a full career at Guardian Industries.
After retiring from Guardian Industries, Neal and Lolly started Video Personalities and Lolly's Embroideries, a successful small business.
Neal was also an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America organization and an amateur (HAM) radio operator.

Visitation with the family will be held at 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home.

Interment with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Dallas/Forth Worth National Cemetery.

Neal was deeply committed to family and will be missed by his wife, his family, and his many friends. They will always cherish the memory of his wit, his sense of humor, and his way with words.

William Gerrel “Jack” Conger, 87, of Corsicana, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012.

He was born Oct. 9, 1924, to Will and Josephine Conger of Round Prairie, Texas, and preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Florence Bates and Mary Conger; and brothers, Eldred and Ernest Conger.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Cunningham Conger of Corsicana; his son, Tim Conger of Austin; step-son, Bill Cunningham of Corsicana; grandchildren, Steven and Kristen Cunningham Sanders of Midlothian, Amanda Cunningham of Forney, William Cunningham of Midlothian, Allison Cunningham of Midlothian, Stewart and Jarrett Cunningham of Corsicana; great grandson, Noah Sanders of Midlothian; and a niece and nephew.

A lifetime resident of Navarro County, Conger attended public school in Kerens. He used his tinsmith skills to open and manage Conger Heating and Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Works. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trail rides and spending time with is horses and dog, Bandit.

Julia “Judy” May Anglin passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.

Judy was born Aug. 18, 1924 to Tom and Mary McNeill in Purdon.

She owned and operated the Buckhorn Laundromat for over 40 years. She loved to dance and could be found on the dance floor at the VFW most Saturday nights until she was over 80 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; parents; and two brothers, Johnny and Boyd McNeill.

Judy leaves behind three devoted daughters, Betty McCulloch and her husband Don of Odessa, Bertha Brady of Plano, and Dorthy Kirk of Corsicana; one grandson, Donald McCulloch of Gardendale; and grand-dog, Sweetie.

At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service.

The family is forever grateful for the care she received from the employees at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village over the last six years.

Calvert Allen Carroll, resident of Streetman, passed away at the Medical Center of McKinney on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the age of 76. He was born in Streetman to Calvert Vell and Pauline Coleman Carroll on March 24, 1936. He was a rancher in the Streetman area and attended the First Baptist Church in Streetman. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served on the Birdston Cemetery Association Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents C.V. Carroll and Pauline Carroll. Survivors include his son Mike Carroll and his wife Shawna of Princeton. Grandchildren: Brooke Carroll Richardson and husband Tyler and Colby Carroll, step grandchildren Cody Calhoun and Colton Calhoun.
Great grandchildren Aiden and Cooper Richardson. He is also survived by one sister Amanda Carroll and her husband Milton, a lifetime friend George Westover and a number of nieces, nepews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grifin - Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the Chapel at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home with Clayton Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Birdston Cemetery in Streetman. Miss Dean Minatra, 60, of Corsicana, died Thursday in Memorial Hospital.

Service is 2 p.m. Saturday in the Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Woody McClendon of Blooming Grove, and the Rev. B. F. Risinger, Jr., of Corsicana, officiating. Burial in Dresden Cemetery.

She was a native of Dawson and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Minatra. She was a long-time Houston resident where she taught in the Houston Independent School District for 20 years. She also was a social worker with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and a counselor for the Girl Scouts of America.

She is survived by sisters, Mrs. Hoyt (Lena) Moore and Mrs. Bruce (Favis) Denbow, both of Corsicana; brother Herschel Minatra, of Blooming Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

The family has asked that memorials be donations to the Heart Fund or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Pallbearers will be John Putman, Wendell Putman, Clark Putman, Lyndon Parks, Dan Nicholson and Jimmy Nicholson.

She was a native of Mexia, lived in Corsicana 60 years, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for O. B. Peterson were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the McCammon chapel with Rev. Paul W. Wiseman, pastor of Eleventh Avenue Methodist church, conducting the final rites. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

A native of Corsicana, Mr. Peterson, 68, was a veteran of World War I. Death came in the VA Hospital in Waco shortly before noon Thursday.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. O. B. Peterson, Dallas; two sisters, Misses Mary and Josephine Peterson, both of Corsicana, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were George Hodge, A. H. Bonner, J. P. Hodge, Ernest Cummins, Robert F. Hodge and Mack Burkhead. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.

Mrs. O. M. Peterson, aged 75 years, native of Louisana, but resident of Corsicana for more than 50 years, died at the family home, 613 South Fourteenth street Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 o’clock and the funeral will be held from the family home Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Peterson had been a devoted member of the First Church of Christ, Scientists, for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Misses Mary and Josephine Peterson, both of Corsicana; and a son, Olie Buck Peterson, Olney.

The funeral will be directed by the Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home.

WELL KNOWN CITIZEN CORSICANA DIED AT EARLY HOUR TODAY

O. M. PETERSON HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF CORSICANA FORTY YEARS

Ole M. Peterson, who was 80 years of age on the 13th of last month passed away at 1:30 this morning at his home, 613 South fourteenth street and the remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery this afternoon at 4 o’clock.

The deceased was a native of Norway, but came to America when a youth. He served in the Federal army under Gen. W. H. Sherman, and voted for Abraham Lincoln in his second race for the presidency.

The deceased came to Corsicana forty years ago, and for thirty-five years was weigher at the Corsicana Cotton Compress. He was a quiet, unobtrusive, good citizen, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Mary Peterson, Miss Mary O. Peterson, a teacher in the Dallas public schools, Miss Josephine E. Peterson with Rhoades Brothers, Corsicana, and Ole Buck Peterson, connected with the Corsicana postoffice.

J.F. BRENNAN DIED HOME OF DAUGHTER EARLY HOUR TODAY

HAD LIVED IN NAVARRO COUNTY FOR OVER FIFTY-SIX YEARS

Corsicana lost another good and highly esteemed old citizen when J. F. Brennan passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. Huff, 1528 West Fifth avenue, at 8:15 this morning. The deceased came home from a visit in Dallas some days ago suffering from a severe case of hiccoughs, and the malady finally ended in his death. The deceased was a native of Ireland where he was born 78 years ago last Saturday, April 12 and had lived in Navarro county for fifty-six years. During all those years his life had been such as to challenge the esteem and confidence of all who knew him, and his death is regretted by a large circle of friends. The deceased is survived by these children; Mrs. Ed Sheets, Mrs. C. Huff and T. J. Brennan of Corsicana; Walter Brennan, Pottsboro, and Mrs. J. H. Burkhalter of Dallas. His only other relative in this county is Pat Garvin, a cousin of Mildred. He had a large number of grand children and great grandchildren, and Mrs. R. W. Gilbert of Holliday, Texas, John Driver and wife of Dallas, and Mrs. O. F. Jones of Shreveport, La. grandchildren were with him when the end came.

The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Father Graffeo officiating.

Funeral services for Mrs. J. Sidney Steele, aged 32 years, the former Miss Antoinette Chirafis of Corsicana, who died in Baylor Hospital, Dallas Saturday, were held Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. The funeral mass was said by the Very Rev. Msgr. V. Graffeo.

Well Known Young Man Dead.

James T. Childress, who would have been twenty-nine years old in August next, died at the family home corner West Seventh avenue and South Twelfth Street at 11:30 today after two weeks illness of pneumonia. The deceased was born in Waxahachie, but had lived in Corsicana since he was one year old. Surviving the deceased are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Childress, his widow and two little sons, one five years old and the other one year old and two brothers, Ed and Robbie Childress. The wife of the deceased is a daughter of G. Wes Martin, a well known citizen of Corsicana. He was a young man of genial nature and had many friends who are pained at his untimely death.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Catholic Church, Father Graffeo officiating, and interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.

Henry Clay Reed, 84, native of Navarro county, died at his home in Houston early Saturday following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Corley Chapel. Rev. Robert Wooddy, First Baptist pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Hamilton cemetery.

A farmer at Angus, Mr. Reed had moved to Houston nine years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife in June, 1950.

6-year-old girl in Dawson crash dies

The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that a 6-year-old girl has died as a result of injuries from a two vehicle crash at 8:30 p.m. Friday night in Dawson.
Autumn Lilly, 6, of Rice, passed away at about 2 p.m. Sunday at Children's Medical Center, said Sgt. Thomas Moore of the Corsicana DPS office. She had been taken by air ambulance from the crash scene Friday night on State Highway 31 in Dawson.
The girl was a passenger in a 2010 Chevy Aveo driven by her aunt, Krystal Griggers, 27, of Rice. The car was struck by a 1999 Dodge truck driven by Christopher Krisp of Holland, when the truck crossed the center line and struck the Aveo.
Also riding in the Aveo were Hannah Lilly, 9; Matthew James, 9-months; and Matthew Chudej, 25, also of Rice. All were treated and released at Navarro Regional Hospital, Moore said.
Krisp was also taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital, and was treated and released, Moore said. Passengers in the truck were Christina Love, 32, also of Holland, and Robert Dailey, 9. The two passengers were also treated and released, Moore said.
The DPS is investigating the crash after the initial report was taken by the Dawson Police Department. Moore said their investigation is continuing.

Boone Anderson, 81, retired Wlnkler farmer, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. G. Lee, at Streetman Sunday night following an extended Illness. He was a life-long resident of Freestone county.

Funeral services were held from the St. Elmo Baptist church Monday at 2 p. m. with burial In the St. Elmo cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Cecil Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist church in Streetman, and Rov. A. C. Corley, Baptist minister.

Mrs. Ora Mae Rea, a 25 year resident of Kerens, died in that city Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens. The rites will be conducted by the Revs. Ralph Stovall and Don Kelley, with interment in Campbell Cemetery.
Mrs. Rea was born in Georgia in 1888 and was 83 years of age.
Survivors include one son, Deruad C. Rea of Kerens; four grandchildren, Delta Mattingly of Malakoff, Darlene Berry of Kerens, Dickie Rea of Lubbock and Lonnie Rea of Kerens, one sister, Miss W.A. Bolen of Corsicana, six great-grand children.

Pallbearers will be Dickie Rea, Lonnie Rea, Jimmy Mattingly, Kelley Barry, William Bolen and Gillian Rea.

Orman Williams Services Monday
Funeral services for Orman Williams, 82, who died at Cryer Creek Sunday were held Monday at 4 p.m. from the Barry Methodist Church. The rites were conducted by the pastor. The Rev. Don Hazelwood. Burial was at Barry.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Jimmy Yates and Glenn Williams, both of Kerens; two daughters, Mrs. Pat Cook, Frost; and Mrs. Pat Yancey, Wichita Falls, and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Massengale, Leon Reed, Fate Brown, Marshall Magers, Dolly Hollingsworth, Roy Posey, Henry Ray Nicholson and Derwood Watkins.

JACK HAYES RITES SATURDAY AFTERNOON DIED HERE FRIDAY

Funeral services for Jack Hayes, aged 69 years, who died Friday morning, were held from the family home, 219 West Third avenue Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The rites were conducted by Very Rev. Monsignor V. Graffeo of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.

Born, May 31, 1878, at Cade, Navarro county, Hayes came to Corsicana and Petty's Chapel communities as a small lad. He began working for Navarro county before his majority, and served as constable of Precinct 1 from 1908 to 1912.

Since leaving the constable's office, he devoted his entire time to horseracing until ill health forced his retirement a few years ago.

Hayes was well-known throughout racing circles of the nation, and formerly was farm manager and trainer for the Waggoner's, owners of the Arlington Downs between Dallas and Fort Worth, and later was connected with Ben Whitaker of Dallas. He has sent his trained racers into competition in most of the well-known race tracks of the country.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Jimmy Childress; a grandson, Tommie Childress; two brothers, Walter Hayes, deputy sheriff, and T. P. (Pink) Hayes, all of Corsican; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Blankenship, Sr., Corsicana, and Mrs. S. R. Fausett, Dallas, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Marion Martin, Ernest Prince, George Campbell, John Blair, Warren Young, Ed Chlldress, Clay Nash and Eddie Kessinger.

Funeral services for John Easterling, 75, Chatfleld farmer-rancher, who died in the Navarro clinic Friday night, were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the McCammon Chapel.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Don Johnson, pastor of the Chatfield Methodist church, of which he was a member.
Burial was in the Chatfield cemetery.

Native of Streetman, he had resided at Chatfield since 1902.

Surviving are his wife of Chatfield; two brothers, Ben and Earl Easterling, both of Chatfleld; two sisters, Mrs. R. Montfort, Corsicana, and Mrs. R. L. Henderson, Waco; and other relatives.
Pallbearers were H. P. Hodge, Jr.; Win. R. Hodge, W. A. Mizell, Jr.; John H. Montfort, J. Little, Jr.; Roland Johnston, Robert Earl Montfort, George Hodge and R. L. Henderson
