John Robert Gladney
Apr 15, 1950 Mar 21, 2010
John
Robert Gladney was born April 15, 1950, in Dallas and
left this world to be in heaven with his loving dad, Bob
Gladney, and his wonderful son, Danny, plus a host of
other relatives and friends. He had a short fight with
cancer and died Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Houston.
At the age of 4, John's family moved to Corsicana where
his dad practiced law and his mom taught at Drane Middle
School. As John grew up, he found that he wanted to be
active in the activities of the community, school, and
his beloved church, First United Methodist. At an early
age, it became evident that John had a God-given talent
with a beautiful voice. He was happy to share that
talent with the choirs at school and his church, plus
entertaining his friends by singing solos at many
organizations in Corsicana.
His responsibilities as president of the Student Council
of Corsicana High School his senior year were such a joy
to him. The council that year did many projects in order
to help people in need. They also gave their influence
in every way they could to help the passing of a bond
program in order to build a new high school building.
The bonds were sold and in 1971, our high schools were
combined and our present high school was put into use.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 23, at the
Cook-Walden Cemetery in Pflugerville and he is buried
next to his son, Danny, in the Cook-Walden Cemetery
Park.
After graduating from Corsicana High School in 1968, he
attended the University of Texas in Austin where he
continued to be active in council work and was a member
of the university's a cappella choir for three years. As
a freshman, he was a member much respected because he
was the youngest member. After three years he graduated
from the university with honors, and he attended Baylor
University and passed the bar exam in 1972.
He and his young bride, Elva Crawford, moved to
Corsicana where he was a partner with his father, Robert
Gladney, for 10 years. Upon his father's retirement in
1981, John moved to Austin to become the assistant
general counsel of the State Bar of Texas.
In 1997, he moved to Houston where he practiced until
his death. John continued to be active with the
activities of the Bar Association until his death,
giving speeches and lectures for the bar and writings
that were published in the Texas Bar Journal on the
subject of "Ethics of a Lawyer."
John's greatest traits were honesty, integrity and
willingness to go the extra mile for his clients, his
family and his host of friends.
John was preceded in death by his beloved son, Danny;
his father, Robert; and his grandparents, the Rev. and
Mrs. Roy Davis. |

Vickie (Onstott)
Tomlin
Jul 27, 1956 - Jan 12, 2022
Vickie
Onstott Tomlin, 65, lifelong resident of Corsicana,
Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on
Wednesday January 12th, 2022. Vickie was born on
July 27, 1956, to Louise and Bill Onstott, Sr. She
graduated from Corsicana High School in 1974 and
married Steve Tomlin. Vickie and Steve started their
family right away, having two daughters, Wendy and
Staci. Vickie was a stay-at-home mom, owned a
catering business and was a cosmetologist while her
girls were little. She was very involved in their
lives serving on the PTO, coaching their softball
teams (The Green Machines), being their campfire
leader and anything else her girls were involved in.
When the girls were a little older, she joined the
work force and quickly found her place. She started
as a secretary at Atlas Architectural Metals which
later became Texas MPP, an anodizing corporation in
Corsicana. Her mentor, Dieter Schmidt, lit a spark
in her to learn all she could about the anodizing
business. She quickly advanced to office manager and
a little later, she became plant manager of the
Corsicana location. Vickie was a natural leader.
Years later, she worked as the Patient Services
office manager, at Medical Arts Clinic, in
Corsicana. She had a passion for helping and serving
others, and this job allowed her to do just that.
Until her passing, she still remained very good
friends with many of the ladies that she worked with
at the clinic. Vickie had many talents. She enjoyed
cooking, baking & cake decorating, making flower
arrangements, and making anything with her hands.
Vickie had many titles throughout her life. Many
people, who aren't actually related to her, have
always called her Aunt Vic. She was the type, if you
knew her, you loved her, and you were family. Of all
of the titles Vickie had through the years, none
were more special than being called "Meme". She has
2 grandsons, Caleb and Joshua, and she lovingly
often referred to them as her "angels" or her
"heartbeats". Becoming a grandmother was the best
time of her life. She was just as active in the
boy's lives as she was Wendy and Staci's. You would
always find her sitting front row at the baseball
field (coaching from the stands, of course) cheering
her boys on, or yelling across the football field,
being their #1 fan. Meme and Papaw loved to vacation
or go camping with the kids. Vickie is also referred
to as Meme, by many of the boy's friends, as well.
She loved them as her own. Vickie is preceded in
death, by her father and step-mother, Bill and
Elizabeth Onstott, mother and step-father Louise and
Donald Sikes, brother, Willam Carl Jr., and sister,
Deborah Clower, mother & father-in-law, Betty and
Glynn Tomlin. Vickie is survived by her husband
Steve, daughters, Wendy Vasquez and Staci Ward,
grandchildren, Caleb Vasquez & (Kaitlin Benton) and
Joshua Vasquez, sister Scharlene Brown, brother,
Duane Onstott Sr. and wife Debbie, brother-in-law,
Richard Clower, sister-in-law Pat Boyde and many
nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Vickie
leaves many dear friends behind as well, including
lifelong friends, Mona and Rodney Gorden. Visitation

Robert Thomas Hull
Jan 11, 1928 - Sep 25, 2022
Robert
Thomas Hull, born January 11, 1928, in the Hubbard,
Tx, area, passed away in the early morning hours of
September 25, 2022, in Corsicana, TX, after a
94-year-long life dedicated to service.
Robert was the nicest man you ever met. He was
simply special. He always had a smile for everyone
he met, and if you met him, that is mostly likely
what you remember.
Robert lived his life to serve. He served his wife,
his child, his community, his employer, and his
country.
Robert once said he was lucky to have deeply loved
two women in his life. First, Robert loved Bernice
Bennight. They married in 1952 and spent the next 58
years in matrimonial bliss. Robert and Bernice had
one son, Bill, who was raised with love and devotion
until his early death. Bernice passed in 2010. Bill
died in 2015 with Robert by his side.
In May 2011, Robert married his second love, Julia
Crawford. He was a devoted husband and companion
until Julia passed on January 19, 2018.
Robert is survived by two grandchildren Robert
"Wade" Hull of Ennis, TX, and Natalie Turner Hull,
of Chillicothe, MO. The legacy he left his
grandchildren is one of service: Wade serves his
community in various manners, including work with
the Ennis Chamber of Commerce, and Natalie is a
public defender helping defend indigent clients in
court. Robert was very proud of them.
Robert set his example of service through years of
service with the Corsicana Lions Club. He was
elected president in 1977.
Robert spent more than 30 years working for Central
Freight Lines as a truck driver and eventually
retired as the terminal manager in Corsicana in
1992.
Many mornings after (and before) found him joking
with friends at Roy's Cafe eating runny scrambled
eggs. He was an avid traveler and loved talking
about the places he had been and comparing notes.
During World
War II, Robert served his country in the U.S.
Army in the Pacific Theatre.
Robert is preceded in death by wife Bernice Bennight
Hull, wife Julia Crawford Hull, son Garland "Bill"
Hull, siblings Altha Sanders, Dorothy Carlton, Bud
Hull, Marjorie Wells, and parents William Grady Hull
and Cecil Hull. He is survived by grandson Robert
"Wade" Hull and wife Jennifer of Ennis, TX, and
their daughters, Joey and Jordan, granddaughter
Natalie Turner Hull and partner Jared Nietfeld, of
Chillicothe, MO, daughter-in-law Jo Anne Hull of
Irving, TX, nephew Michael Sanders of Waco, TX, and
his family, as well as numerous extended family
members and friends who heard his stories and
laughed with him over the years. |
