Notice Signed K. K. K. Posted in Blooming Grove Friday NightNegroes
residing in Blooming Grove are all said to be in the cotton patch today as the
result of a notice posted in that town Friday
night, which bore the signature of the three letters— K. K. K.
The notice was as follows:
"The Dreadful Year— The Awful Day and the Awful Hour Will Come— It is suggested
that the colored people must pick cotton."

According to the telephone communication from Blooming Grove this morning the
negro section of the town is depopulated, all of the residents reporting for
duty in the various cotton fields of the community.
According to information received at this office there has been some difference
in price between the negroes and the farmers for picking. The negroes are said
to have refused to enter the fields for less than seventy-five cents a hundred,
the farmers offering fifty cents. It is reported that the fifty cent price per
hundred prevails today.
The communication posted is not thought to be an official letter from the Klan
as it bore no seal. However, according to all reports it had the desired effect.
