Does anyone know the historic location of Navarro County town called Oil Town? My assumption is it was short lived, probably between 1894-1905. It is also my speculation it was between Roane and Chatfield. Any thoughts?

I have discovered more specific information on my Curry family in Navarro County since my earlier query posting. My gr-grandfather Jabez L. M. Curry, then 16, lived with his family on a farm in the Dresden area in 1880 (per census records). His mother, Margrette, was then widowed. Other members of the family were sisters Mary, Nannie and twins Norah and Dora. His older brother, James, was then 25. His father is shown in 1860 and 1870 records, once as J. L. and another time as J. M. Curry. Anyone have additional information on this family?

Was there an outbreak of smallpox in Navarro County in the 1930s? My dad was quite a story teller; one story was about all his family and extended family having smallpox at the same time. He was the only one who did not. Daddy is gone now and if he wasn't, I would not expect him to change his story even if there was not a word of truth in it.

Am researching my gggrandmother Margaret C. FRAZIER who was b. 13 March 1852 NavCo Tex. I do not know her parents. She appears on the 1870 census of Panola Co. Tex with the Wyatt Beasley family and married John Moses TAYLOR 10 Oct 1871. He was a widower with 4 small children. They lived the rest of their lives in shelby Co. TX. I would like to know where she was in the 1860 census and who her parents were. According to the 1870 census, Wyatt Beasley's wife was one Mary Elizabeth - I think a sister to Margaret. Any help would be appreciated.

NOTE from BK: Mary Elizabeth Frazier married 19 Feb 1854 Wyatt S. Beasley, son of Jesse Beasley and Elizabeth Roberts. The 1860 NavCo census enumerates one W. W. [sic] Frazier with dau Martha C. and Nancy E., ages 4 and 5 respectively.

I am trying to find info on my grandfather Benjamin Franklin Sullivan born 10 Aug 1865 in TN died 15 Feb 1937 in Navarro Co. and wife Martha Nellie Louella "Lula" Murray Sullivan born 1 Jan 1876 in Miss died 3 Aug 1917 in Navarro Co., TX.  I  just began family research and have a hit a brick wall with the Sullivan line.  Went to the Navarro Co Courthouse the week before Thanksgiving and found both my Grandfather Benj F. Sullivan & my Grandmother Lula Sullivan's death certificates, but I have no other info on them.  Have no family to ask, and have exhausted most internet sources.  Thank for your help!!
It is always a good idea to check on probate packets when searching for information in county records. If you are in Corsicana again, check with the Corsicana Library for obituaries. Rootsweb has many family surname lists.

The interpretive staff of the Fort Smith National Historic Site, Fort Smith, Arkansas is currently developing a mini exhibit on the name Belle Point. Using an internet search we found the Belle Point Community, Navarro County, Texas, site. We are curious to know about Capt. J.A. Harrison, do you have any information about him and where he was from, his service dates, etc., Union or Confederate? Fort Smith was an active military post off and on between the years 1817 and 1871. The first fort was located at the confluence of the Arkansas and Poteau rivers at a spot called Belle Point by early French fur trappers. Fort Smith the city now has many businesses and organizations carrying the Belle Point name: Belle Point Lodge #20 F&AM, Belle Point Quilters Guild, Belle Point school to name a few. Thank you for your help in this matter,
Emily Lovick, Museum Technician

I have an ancestor, Hartwell Harris, who was a physician and apparently resided in Taos, Navarro Co., about 1874. I wondered if you had any listings of physicians who practiced in Navarro Co. during that time period. Also, my grandfather (different line) was in the IOOF Orphans Home near Corsicana in about 1910. He and his siblings are listed on the Federal Census, but I wondered if you were aware of any other records of the Orphan's home that exist?

The Library of The Texas State Medical Association has a listing of deceased physicians. You can contact them at www.txmed.org. The Corsicana Library will have more information on the Orphans Home records.

In you recent inquires or past inquiries, have you ever come ac cross anyone with the last or first name of "BOWIE"  (Pronounced Booie) or "BOUIE"?   My father passed away recently, and all the information I have is what he was able to tell me before he died or leave me in his Bible or writings.  He was born in Dawson, Texas--near Waco, his mother's maiden name is Fenner and his father's name was William Bowie who was born between 1853 - 1855 and lived to be 105 years old.  However, They only lived in Dawson until 1911 then moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma.   Can you help me find out more about my roots?

We are missing Mr. Hand's photo from our files, and I hoped someone might be able to help find a copy.
