FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1941
Barry WPA school lunch unit, above, is one of the thirteen schools of
Navarro County operating such a project this year. Each day 125 to 150
school students march through this kitchen for a hot balanced meal.
The meals are prepared from food furnished by local PTA and the
Surplus Commodity Administration. No difference is made in meals
served the needy and undernourished and those able to pay. Meals are
planned by home economic trained supervisors.
Nineteen schools plan to operate school lunch rooms next year,
according to proposal plans recently signed by J. C. Watson, county
superintendent and official co-sponsor of the lunch projects.
