Commencement
At Kerens High Friday Night
KERENS, May 30
(Spl.)—Twenty-five Kerens high school seniors will receive their
diplomas in the annual commencement exercise in the high school
auditorium Friday at 8 p.m.
Elmin Howell,
Jr., youth and education director of the First Baptist church in
Shreveport, La., will be the guest speaker.
M. J. Crawford,
president of the school board, will present the diplomas to 13 girls
and 12 boys. Wade Johnston, high school principal, will present the
awards. Music will be provided by the high school band.
Bonnie Massey,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Massey is the valedictorian with a
four year average of 95.70. She was a member of the Kerenettes and
lettered in basketball four years. She served as student council
representative and on the yearbook staff during her senior year.
Kay Fields,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Fields, ranks second in the class
with an average of 94.32. She was a member of the Bobcat band for
four years, serving as majorette one year and drum major for two
years.
Dickie Rea, son
of M. and Mrs. D. C. Rea, is the highest-ranking boy with an average
of 93.65. Included in his activities was football, which he played
four years.

Jan Hawkins, Claudia Lee Johnson, Dorothy Jean McQuary, Bonnie Beth
Massey, Patricia Ann Morris, Rita Jane Ragland, Linda Carol
Tarkington, Jane Elizabeth Thomason, Diane Warren Rose, Sara Sue
Wolfenberger, Johnny Carroll Booker, Roy Jerald Colvin, Timothy J.
Crawford, Donald Pierce Green, Robbie Glenn Griffin, Larry Glenn
Hancock, Larry Neil Haynie, Roy Lynn Jenkins, Dickie Morris Rea,
John Richard Reese, Jere Wayne Speed and Vernon Emitt Yates.
The sequence
Friday night, will be processional—“Pomp and Circumstance” played
by the high school band; invocation—Tim Crawford; introduction of
the speaker; address; “Intermezzo” by the band; presentation of
awards—Wade Johnston; presentation of diplomas—M. J. Crawford; and
recession—from “Commencement Suite” by the band.
Following the
program, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ragsdale will entertain the graduates
with a party.
Sunday at
midnight members of the class will depart on a trip to a dude ranch
at Bandera.
