Last Cotton Belt Passenger Trains Are
Discontinued
The last two passenger trains on the St. Louis-Southwestern Railway Company of
Texas between Tyler and Waco, via Corsicana, are to be discontinued.
The Texas Railroad Commission in Austin has granted the Cotton Belt System
application, according to a copy of a letter received Thursday by James C.
Sewell, Navarro county judge. The communication did not state when the
discontinuance will become effective.
A hearing on the application was held August 27 in Waco. The railroad company
contended the passenger trains 101 and 102 are losing money. The trains consist
only of an engine, baggage car and a passenger coach.
When these trains are stopped, Navarro county towns to lose passenger service
include Dawson, Purdon, Corbet, Powell and Kerens.
