The following Bible record is recorded in a Family bible Published by the National Publishing Company, Ziegler & McCurdy, Jones, Junkin & Co.

Old and New Testament with Apocrypha and Concordance, and Pslams in Metre.

Translated out of the Original Tongues.

There is no date on the fly leaf. On the next page is however,

“Entered according to Act of Congress in year 1870 by J. R. JONES, in the Office of the Library of Congress at Washington, D.C.”

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

This certifies that Holy Matrimony was celebrated between Hugh SLOAN        of Duplin County, N.C. and Eliza R. COLVIN of New Hanover County, N.C. on the 10^th day of March at the house of the Bride’s mother, by the Rev’d George FENNELL of North Carolina, March 10^th, 1842.

William G. GOODMAN and Flora Ann SLOAN were married on the 4^th day of January A.D. 1872.

Rachel Bryan SLOAN departed this life on the 16^th day of April A.D. 1863.

Flora Ann GOODMAN departed this life on the 30^th day of December 1872.

Eliza Rutledge SLOAN wife of Hugh SLOAN departed this life on the 19^th day of December A.D. 1874 aged 49 years 5 months and 20 days.

Hugh SLOAN, Sr. was born on the 19^th day of December A.D. 1819.

Eliza Rutledge SLOAN, wife of Hugh SLOAN, Sr. was born on the 29^th day of May A.D. 1825.

Hugh SLOAN, Sr. departed this life the 6^th day of Feb. 1896 aged 77 years, 1 month and 12 days.

The last entry was in different handwriting. The Bible was 1^st owned by Hugh SLOAN, Sr. whose name is engraved in gold on the outside front of the book. It is now in possession of my father Ben Lloyd SLOAN, a grandson of Hugh SLOAN, Sr.
