Dec 10,1918
Dear Father, Mother and Sisters
A few words to let you know that I am all o.k. I am not
in a hospital any more. I am down in southern France on
the Mediterranean Sea at Hyers in hotel. Its the Hotel
Grand I'lles d'Or, a swell place--just like sunny
Panama, only not quit so warm. I don't know just when I
will be sent home.
I am well now and ready for the transport when it comes.
I have enough of France already. I have only been over
here seven months but have seen enough of the War. I
have been under the greatest hardships I have ever
been--under Fritz's shell fire, gas, sleeping on the
ground and in water when we had a chance to sleep. We
ran Fritz so fast we didn't have time to eat or sleep.
It took all of our time to keep up with them, but now it
is over and I am ready to go back to America. I have
gotten enough of Europe.
An American has to learn too many d___ languages over
here to get along with the people.
Sergt Sam C. LassiterSergt Lassiter is a son
of W.J. Lassiter, who lives on the S.B. Bromley farm. He
was wounded some months ago. |
