Opal Inez Johnson
Opal Inez Johnson, 81, of Waco and formerly of Blooming Grove, died
April 7, 1995 at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in
Rose Hill Cemetery in
Blooming Grove, with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Services will
be under the direction of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Benton, Ark.
She is survived by one sister, Naomi Fletcher.
She was preceded in death by her husband; William G. Johnson, in
1981.

Luther J. Wood, 61, Dawson, barber, died in Memorial Hospital Friday
morning, following a several
weeks illness.
Funeral services will be held from the Frost Baptist Church, with
burial in the Frost cemetery but the time had not been decided
Friday afternoon.
Wood was a, member of the Navarro Mills Baptist Church. He was
connected with the Malone barber shop.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannielynn Wood, Dawson; six sons, T.
J. and Bernice Wood, both of Odessa: Weldon and Bobby Dan Wood, both
of Dawson; Billy Joe Wood. Corrigan; Frankie Jack Wood, Kermit; a
daughter, Mrs. John Moore, Corsicana; 12 grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Edd Berry, Purdon; three brothers,
W. R. Wood, Blooming Grove; S. M. Wood, Corsicana, and Edd Wood,
Waco, and other relatives.
Nephews will be pallbearers.

Funeral services for Luther J. Wood, 61, Dawson barber, who died in
Memorial Hospital Friday morning following a several weeks' illness,

Tom Cochran Funeral services were to be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Corley Funeral Home Chapel for Tom Cochran, 75, native of Corsicana
who died Tuesday at Paulyne's Convalescent Home. Burial was to be at
Frost Cemetery. Rev. B. W. Johnston was to officiate. Survivors
include two brothers, John Cochran of Hillsboro and Jim Cochran of
Whitney; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Brady of Cleburne, and five nieces.

Funeral services will be held Sunday for Mrs. Effie F. Gowin, 52,
who died Friday morning. The

Survivors include her husband Jess Gowin of Corsicana; one daughter
Mrs. Mattie Faye Rendon of Corsicana and one granddaughter.

Alfred Shores Dies Thursday
Alfred E. Shores, 94. retired farmer - rancher, of Mertens, died in
Twilight Home here Thursday night following an extended illness. He
was a native of Ozark, Arkansas, but had resided in Mertens area for
75 years. Funeral services will be held from the McCormick Funeral
Service chapel in Frost Saturday at 10 a. m. with burial in the
Frost Cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. C. C. Ellis,
pastor of the Frost Baptist church. Masons will be pallbearers. No
close relatives survive. Nieces and nephews include Mrs. Erwin
Kelly, Milford, F. S. Malone , Frost; Mrs. Elsie Finch and Mrs.
Louise Barham, both of Hillsboro; Jack Crouch, Dallas, and several
others who reside in Africa.

BLACK HILLS MAN DIED LAST NIGHT; BUR1ED AT FROST
Funeral services for Samuel R. Luther, aged 57 years, who died at
his home in the Black Hills community Tuesday night at 8 o'clock,
were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Frost Baptist
church with burial in the Frost
Cemetery. The rites were conducted
by Rev. E. L. Liddell, Baptist minister, assisted by Rev. E. J.
Speegle. He was a native of Mississippi, but had resided in Navarro
county for the past 26 years. Surviving are his wife, seven sons, R.
J. Luther, Dallas: R. L., S. R. Jr., O. L., J. W., D. O. and T. E.
Luther, all of the Black Hills community; a daughter, Annie Mae
Luther, Black Hills; four grandchildren, four brothers, Isaac
Luther. Will Luther and Jack Luther, all of Tyler, and Robert
Luther, California, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Gross, Jamestown, Texas.
The funeral was directed by the Corley Funeral Home.

FROST, Jan. 30.—Mrs. Mary Smith, aged 72 years, died at her home
here Saturday afternoon after an illness of several months and the
funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with
burial in the Frost cemetery.

PIONEER NAVARRO COUNTY WOMAN DIED LAST NIGHT FROST
Funeral services for Mrs. Preston Pevehouse, aged 87 years, native
of Louisiana, but pioneer resident of Navarro county, who died
Monday night in the Frost community following a lingering illness,
were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Frost. Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Lucy Sheppard, Frost, and Mrs. R. C. Baygent,
Grayson, La.; three sons, Preston Pevehouse, Austin; Jimmie
Pevehouse, Houston; and John Pevehouse, Dallas; and a number of
other relatives. Mrs. Pevehouse resided in Corsicana for some time,
but had resided in the Frost community during the past few years.

FROST, Sept. 4—P. H. White, aged 75 years, died at his home here
Monday morning at 9 o’clock after an extended illness and the
funeral was held Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the Frost
Baptist church with burial in the
Frost cemetery. He was a native of
Tennessee and first settled in this community in 1895, later moving
to Hillsboro, where he resided for a number of years before
returning to this community.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Corbin White of Frost; three
daughters, Mrs. Iva Brown, Kopperl; Mrs. Mattie Childers, Hubbard,
and Mrs. Jim Gant, Frost, and a number of other relatives.

(Frost Star.)
Mr. John Scott, who was buried in Frost Tuesday, met his death by
accidental shooting, at his home in Venus. He had been accustomed to
shooting rats in his barn while feeding his stock and just after the
noon hour on Monday, as was his custom he was feeding. His wife, who
was in the yard in sight of the barn, saw him fall and ran to him,
but he died instantly. The bullet pierced his brain, entering his
head behind his right ear and coming out a little past the middle of
his head in the back. He is survived by his wife, a son, Wiley, two
daughters. Mrs. I. A. Sanders of Frost and Mrs. Will Owens of
Alvarado, a sister and five brothers, Ethan Scott of Richland, Green
Scott of Cisco, Will Scott of Memphis and J. J. and J. M. Scott of
this place.

KILLED SELF ACCIDENTALLY
Former Citizen of Frost Buried There Yesterday
John Scott, aged seventy years, and for many years a citizen of
Frost, killed himself accidentally at his home in Venus, Johnson
County, Monday and the remains were buried at Frost yesterday. The
deceased had been shooting rats at his barn for several days, and
when a shot was heard at the barn Monday morning nothing was thought
of it until later his dead body was found about half way in his corn
crib door and a pistol shot wound through his side.
The deceased was a brother of Jerry Scott of Frost, Ethan Scott of
Richland and Green Scott of western Texas. He lived at Frost for
many years before moving to Johnson county and had many friends who
are pained at his tragic death.

Tuesday in the M. D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston.

Coffee had lived the majority of his life in the west end of Navarro
County.

LIFELONG RESIDENT FROST COMMUNITY IS BURIED ON FRIDAY
FROST, Aug. 17—(Spl)—Funeral services for James Walter Morgan, age
57, were held Friday afternoon from the Frost Baptist church at 4
o’clock. They were conducted by Rev. D. P. Cage. Burial was in the
Frost cemetery.
Mr. Morgan died in Dallas Thursday following an operation for
appendicitis.
He was a native of Navarro county, having been born on the farm on
which he lived at the time of his death. He was prominent in Masonic
circles and the Masons had charge of the services at the grave.
Surviving are his widow, one son, two daughters and other relatives.

MRS ANNIE HEFLIN DIED TUESDAY NIGHT;
BURIAL AT FROST
Mrs. Annie Heflin, aged 46 years died at the P. and S. Hospital
Tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock after a short illness and the funeral
rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon. A short funeral service
was held from the family residence, 617 North Main street, Wednesday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock another service was held at the Front
Methodist church at 3:30 o'clock. Interment was in the
Frost cemetery with the Rebekah Lodge in charge at the grave. The rites
were conducted by Rev. J. F. Adams, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue
Methodist church, assisted by Rev. A. R. Corn, pastor of the
Methodist protestant church, and Rev Jeff Pittman Frost Methodist
minister. Surviving are her husband J.V. Heflin, Corsicana; a son,
O. E. Barker, Corsicana; two brothers, C. T. Cray. Waco; and H. C.
Cray, Chillicothe; a sister, Mrs. Cora Aston, Corsicana; a
grandchild and other relatives. Pallbearers were Andrew G. Steele,
Forest Sweatman, Dock Sheets, H. C. Gorrod, Tracy Gorman, Bill Ewing
and Ray Morgan. The funeral was directed by the Corley Funeral Home.

Funeral Rites For Mrs. J. D. Lee Monday Afternoon
Mrs. J. D. Lee, 94, died at her home in Mertens Sunday morning.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. from the Mertens
Methodist church. Burial was in the
Frost cemetery. The rites were
conducted by Rev. J, L. Oliver, Rev. H. J. Williams and Rev. F. T.
Fisher. Born in 1856 in Alabama, Mrs. Lee came to the Frost area
early in life and resided there for many years. She was the widow of
the late J. D. Lee, killed in the Frost tornado, May 6, 1930, when
more than 20 lives were lost. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H. A.
Young, Mertens; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, eight
great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mattie Brimlet,
Bennington, Okla., and other relatives. Corley directed.

who died in a Dallas hospital Thursday after an extended illness,
were held from the Frost Baptist church Friday. Burial was in the

The rites were conducted by Rev. D. P. Cagle of Huntsville, formerly
of Frost, and Rev. Alvin Swindell of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Scott was a life-time resident of this community, the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Hooser, pioneer residents of West
Navarro county.
Surviving are her husband of Frost; three sons, H. A. Scott, Jr.,
Dallas; J. Sam Scott and Bennie Scott both of Frost; a daughter Mrs.
W. M. Gartman, Waco; six grandchildren, two brothers, Tom and Ernest

FROST, May 31.—(Spl)— Funeral services for Winnifred Lookingbill,
36, former Frost resident, who died in the Veterans' Hospital,
Dallas, Friday, were held Sunday at 2 p. m. from the Baptist church.
The rites were conducted bv Rev. C. C. Ellis, pastor. Burial, was in
the Frost cemetery. Surviving are his wife,
Fosterson, Eugene Henry,
Fort Worth; parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Lookingbill, Hooks; four
sisters, Mrs. E. E. Ellington and Mrs. J. B. Brown, both of Frost;
Mrs. J. W. Jackson, Texarkana, and Miss Sammie Lookingbill, Dallas;
a nephew and three nieces. Lookingbill served in the navy from
November, 1942, to December, 1945, with the rank of chief boatswain
mate. He saw service in the American, Asiatic and Pacific areas,
receiving one star and victory medal. Since returning to civilian
life, he wag employed by the Atlanta Steel Co., Atlanta. Ga.

Mrs. John Johnson, 77, long time resident of Blooming Grove, died in
a Dallas hospital Sunday night.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Frost Methodist
church. Burial was in the Frost
cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Porter Johnson, Dallas, a grandson, and other
relatives.

Quite a few friends attended the funeral of Mrs. Maggie Ione Cypert
Johnson, which was held from the First Methodist Church in Frost on
last Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Johnson, the wife of the late T. S. Johnson passed away last
Sunday night at 8:30 o'clock in a Dallas hospital, where she had
been sick for the past two months. One son survives, John Porter
Johnson, Dallas. Mrs. Johnson had resided in Blooming Grove since
1927 moving here from Frost.

Aged Lady Dies.
Rev. J. T. McKeown was called to Frost Sunday to conduct the funeral
of Mrs. Janie English. The funeral service was held at 4 o’clock at
the Methodist Church. If Mrs. English had lived until June 20th she
would have been 72 years of age. She is survived by 7 children. Mrs.
English had many friends, a large number of whom lived seven miles
north of town who are grieved to learn of her death.

West End News.
While in Frost Friday I heard that Sam and Ben English who live out
West, were summoned back to their old home near Frost to be by the
bedside of their dying mother, and that grand, good old Mother of
Israel passed from this old troublesome world to a happy home in
heaven on Saturday night, and her remains were interred in the Frost
cemetery at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon. This leaves a large bunch of
children, all grown and having families to walk through the balance
of their lives without father or mother. But I have for a long time
had such trials and know how to sympathize with them. Their best
friend has left them to fight the battle of sin and the toils of
this old sinful world alone. May God help the grief stricken ones
and help them that they may never forget their father and mother's
love and strive to meet them where there shall be no more tears and
where peace and happiness reign forever. So look to Jesus, boys and
girls; He will help you.

Was Buried at Frost Yesterday.
Mrs. M. E. Goodman, widow of the W. B. Goodman, died at her home in
Frost Tuesday night, and the remains were interred at Frost
yesterday afternoon. The deceased was seventy-four years of age and
had been a resident of the Frost community for more than forty
years. She is survived by five grown children, among these being,
Mr. Lee Goodman of Corsicana.

Mrs. Othel Morris died at Frost Saturday night and the remains were
interred there Sunday. Deceased is survived by her husband and an 18

Remains interred at Frost.
Mrs. Rebecca Brown, aged 65 years, died at the home of her son, Will
Brown, Saturday and the remains were taken to Frost yesterday for
interment. The deceased was the widow of the late W. J. Brown, for

E. H. Calhoun, an old and highly esteemed citizen of Frost, dropped
dead there this afternoon while attending to business in the
Citizens State Bank. He was in apparently good health at the time.

The remains of E. H. Calhoun who dropped dead in the Citizens State
Bank at Frost yesterday, will be interred there tomorrow. The
deceased was sixty-eight years of age, and is survived by several
grown children.

DIED IN FROST FRIDAY NIGHT.
Remains of a Good Citizen Interred There Yesterday.
P. B. Orme, aged sixty-two years and for many years a merchant of
Frost, died there Friday night and his remains were interred there
yesterday. The deceased is survived by six grown children, three
daughters and three sons. All of the boys were soldiers in France,
and two are yet overseas. William, one of these, who was wounded
just before the signing of the armistice, was returned to America,
and reached his father's bed side a few hours before his death. The
deceased was highly regarded by all who knew him, and his funeral
yesterday was largely attended.

this city, suffered a stroke of paralysis early Wednesday morning at
his home here and is reported in a critical condition.

PROMINENT FROST MERCHANT PASSED AWAY LAST NIGHT
Special to the Sun.
Frost, Texas, April 19.—J. M. Cole, aged about 50 years, well-known
dry goods merchant of Frost, died Monday night at 9:15 o’clock
following an illness of several weeks and the remains were interred
in the Frost cemetery Tuesday afternoon. The funeral services were
conducted at the Frost Methodist church of which he was a member, at
4 o’clock. The services were in charge of Rev. Chas. Diltz, pastor.
Surviving are his wife, one sister, one half-sister, one
half-brother, and one step-brother.
Mr. Cole suffered a stroke of paralysis about one month ago.
He was born in Arkansas but has resided in Frost since early
manhood. He had been in the dry goods business for fifteen years or
more.

DAVID J. M’REE DIED SUDDENLY AT HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER MONDAY
Funeral services for David J. McRee, aged 76 years, who was found
dead at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. John Massey, 903 South
Seventeenth street, Monday morning about 9:15 o’clock, were held
Tuesday morning at 8:30 at the residence of his son, John McRee,
1007 West Eleventh avenue. The services were conducted by Rev. M. A.
Turner, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church. The body was
taken to Frost where interment was made.
Mr. McRee was a pioneer resident of Navarro county, coming to this
county and settling in the Jones Ranch community south of Frost in
1875. He had resided in Corsicana about 25 or 30 years. He was a
member of the Presbyterian church.
Mr. McRee was born in Alabama but lived in Louisana for several
years prior to coming to Texas.
The deceased was sitting on the front porch Monday morning when Mrs.
Massey went to the market and when she returned a short time later,
she found him lying across a bed, dead. He was preceded in death
about a year ago by his wife.
Two children survive.

AGED CORSICANA MAN PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY MONDAY
DAVIS J. M’REE FOUND DEAD BY DAUGHTER ON RETURN FROM MARKET
Davis J. McRee, aged 76 years, died suddenly Monday morning about
9:15 o’clock with a heart attack at the residence of his daughter,
Mrs. John Massey, 903 South Seventh street and the body will be
taken to Frost Tuesday morning for interment. The funeral services
will be held from the residence of Johnny McRee, 1007 West Eleventh
Avenue, his son, and the cortege will leave for Frost at 9 o’clock.
Interment will be made at 11 o’clock.
Mrs. Massey went to the market and had been gone only a short time
when she returned and found him dead on a bed. He was sitting on the
front porch at the time she left the house.
Mr. McRee was born in Louisiana but had resided in Corsicana for
many years. He is survived by only two children, Johnny McRee and
Mrs. John Massey, both of Corsicana.

Frost, Texas, Jan. 24,--Mrs. N. J. Denn, aged 69 years, died here
Saturday night at 8:30 and the funeral services will be held Tuesday
Morning at 10 o’clock at the First Baptist church, Rev. N. L. Range,
pastor will conduct the services.
Mrs. Denn is survived by nine children, seven boys and two
daughters, 47 grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.

R. L. Templeton Of Frost Dies
R. L. Templeton, 84, prominent retired Frost merchant, died in
the P. and S. Hospital early Monday morning. He had been in ill
health for several months.
Funeral services will be held from the Frost Baptist church at 2:30
p. m. Tuesday with burial in the
Frost Cemetery. The rites will be
conducted by Rev. C. C. Ellis, pastor of the church.
Born January 14, 1867, in Tennessee, Templeton came to Texas in 1890
and to Frost late in 1896, when there were only two business
establishments at this West Navarro county town. He was a hardware
merchant in Frost for 32 years before his retirement and he was a
bank director and cotton buyer.
Templeton served many years as a school trustee and was active in
business and civic affairs of West Navarro county until a few years
ago. He was a Presbyterian and a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Mr. and Mrs. Templeton observed their 55th wedding anniversary last
January 15.
Surviving are his wife of Frost; two sons, Ben H. Templeton,
Stephenville.
and T. J. . Templeton, Frost: two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Jackson,
Houston, and Mrs. Ted Tatum, Corsicana: and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tom Stevenson, Allison Merrell, Dock Jones, Tom

“Gerry” Haynie, life-long resident of Corsicana, passed away
peacefully at her home on Jan. 3, 2011, surrounded by
family, friends, and music that she loved.
Gerry was born July 9, 1926, to Wilsie and Lillie Mae “Paul”
Carden. She accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was
twelve years old and a long time member of Northside Baptist
Church. She married Neil Haynie on Oct. 16, 1946.
Affectionately known as “Gaggy” to her many family members
and friends. She always made everyone feel like members of
the family, as they experienced her gracious hospitality.
Her recollection of the history of Corsicana during WWII and
stories of the dances at the Country Club and Lake Halbert,
as the young ladies of Corsicana did their part to make the
cadets feel at home, will always be a cherished memory, as
well as her love for Big Band Music.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Neil Haynie; son,
Bruce Haynie; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Carden Collier;
her parents, Wilsie and Lillie Mae “Paul” Carden; and three
sisters, Fayrene Farrell, Nellie Jo Tyler, and Mary Ella
Gordon.
Survivors inlcude two sons and one daughter, Brad Haynie and
wife Lori, Byron Haynie, and Betsy Stroder; 10
grandchildren, John-Mark Stroder and wife Brandy, Sarah
Haynie Sullivan and husband Melvin, Anna Stroder Collier,
Ezekiel Stroder and wife Michelle, Britney Haynie, Taylor
Haynie, Sember Stroder, Tate Stroder, Adam Stroder and Carly
Haynie; step-grandchildren, Neely Owen Minchew, Brady Grant,
and Kayla and Dillan Halley; three great-grandchildren,
Jared and Jadyn Collier, and Dain Stroder; she is also
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The Haynie family would like to thank Dr. Kent Rogers for
his wonderful medical care, Angels at Home nursing staff and
caregivers, Brandy Collins, Patsy Geiger, Tammy Kent, Cindy
Clasper, Bria Goodman, and Rachel Chitty. Also special
thanks to Sharon Thomas, Debbie Boyte, Vickie Farmer, and
Neely Minchew for their support and help as she passed from
this world into the arms of Jesus.

Szenasy Warner Gilcrease, 88, of Corsicana passed away on
Friday, August 6 at Navarro Regional Hospital. She was born
on October 8, 1921 to Sam and Ethel Szenasy. Helen had been
employed with the Rural Electric Co-op for 35 years. She was
a member of First Baptist Church in Corsicana and served on
various ministry teams. Helen had a loving care of people,
volunteering at the hospital for 30 years as a Pink Lady,
and was a loyal blood donor for many years.
Helen was preceded in death by her first husband Wilson
Warner, and sisters Ethel and Margaret. Survivors include
her husband Norman Gilcrease of Corsicana. Her children:
Roger Warner and his wife Kathann of Corsicana, Wilson
Norwood Warner Jr. and wife Carol of Arlington.
Grandchildren: David Warner and wife Jamie of Huntsville,
Kenneth Warner of Alexandria, VA., Carol Warner and husband
Steve of Arlington. Great grandchildren: Shelby Warner, Macy
Madelyn Warner, Reese and Payton. Sister Edith Phillips of
Waco and brother Sam Szenasy of Tulsa, OK. Normans children:
Lynda Allen and her husband Joe. Grandchildren: Chris Allen,

Griffin Thigpin was born July 10, 1913, in Forney, to James
C. and Kathryn Linn Griffin. She married Robert L. Thigpin
July 6, 1936. She passed from this life Nov. 26, 2010.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert
L. Thigpin; son, Lt. James C. Thigpin; sisters, Linn Griffin
Deitz and Dixie Griffin Reid; and brother, James C. Griffin
II.
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Thigpin Jr. and wife
Shurley of Corsicana; step-grandson, John M. Kirton II of
Lewisville; one nephew, James C. Griffin III and wife
Barbara of Mesquite; and one niece, Nancy Griffin Pyle of
Fort Worth.
Special thanks to Frances’ caregivers who made her life more
rich and comfortable for the last 15 months. They have
become like family to all of us. They are Willie R. Carter,
Regina Brookins, Thelma Stewart, Lisa Coleman, and Regina
Preston.
Frances earned her B.A. Degree from Texas Women's
University, graduating with honors in Music. She taught
school in Nacogdoches and Corsicana. She taught private
piano lessons with Lottie Mansfield, she was asked to
establish the Music Chair at Navarro Junior College and did
so, she received much from music and contributed much
through her music. She was a long time member of Westminster
Presbyterian Church, their Womens' Choir, the Music Guild,
Literary Club, and Kinsloe House. She also enjoyed Bridge
Clubs.

Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the

Dorothy Pauline Lauser Taliaferro, 87, of Corsicana, passed
away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at her residence.
She was born December 4, 1922 in Trumbull County, Ohio to
Edgar and Minnie Lauser. Her grandfather was a German
immigrant. She attended the Ohio State University and played
flute in the marching band but left to start teaching during
World War II. She later completed her degree and graduated
from Kent State University while raising three children. She
taught school in Ohio for 26 years and after retiring and
moving to Corsicana in 1982, she was a substitute for four
years in the Corsicana schools. She was active in Eastern
Star and was Director of the Chardon, Ohio Rainbow Girls for
six years. She liked to craft and was the art instructor for
the Navarro Council of Arts Creative Hands program.
Mrs. Taliaferro is survived by her husband of 62 years,
Hollis Vernon Taliaferro; sons, Paul Taliaferro and wife
Laura of Moundsville, W.Va., Bruce Taliaferro and wife Shera
of Grand Prairie; daughter, Holly Boulay and husband Steve
of Red Lion, Pa. ; granddaughters, Megan Albidrez and
husband Rob of Raleigh, N.C., Amy Taliaferro of Raleigh,
N.C., and Lani Taliaferro of Grand Prairie; step-grandson,
Darick Alvarez of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and
great-granddaughter, Emma Albidrez of Raleigh, N.C.

Corsicana — Grady Hendrix, 82, resident of Corsicana, passed away on
Nov. 16, 2010, at Navarro Regional Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1928, in Hico, to Jeff G. Hendrix and Opal
Killon Hendrix. Grady was retired from the United States Navy after
more than nineteen years of service. After retirement he was the
Police Chief of Blooming Grove for eleven years, worked for the
Texas Department of Corrections, was a security officer for a number
of businesses in the area, and worked at Wal-Mart in the Deli. He
was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana, and in the
past he also worshiped in Blooming Grove, First Baptist and Emmanuel
Baptist in Corsicana.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hendrix of Corsicana; children,
Annette Straubing of Corsicana, Evan Matthews of Dallas, Chuck
Hendrix of Mansfield, Stanley Hendrix of Louisiana, Paula Kay
Hendrix of Oklahoma, and Barbara Miller of White Oak; sisters, Opal
Lee Leonard of Dallas, and Lola Parker of San Angelo; brother, Tommy
Sites of Virginia; he is also survived by a number of grandchildren.

Vivian Huff Locklar, born December 16, 1916 in Ennis to Fred and
Ilene Huff passed away on March 2, 2012 after a brief illness. She
attended school in Ennis but had to withdraw in order to take care
of her family. She married Orville Locklar on May 15, 1938 in Ennis
and made their home in Corsicana. They had been married for 71years
at the time of his death in 2009.
In 1944 she and Orville, who worked for Safeway, were transferred to
Hillsboro and they lived there for 15 years. Both were very active
in the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro where she taught in the
beginner department. She was a homemaker for a number of years and
was known for her sewing abilities, her cooking and taking care of
her children.
In 1959 she and her family moved back to Corsicana and affiliated
with the First Baptist Church. She retired along with her husband
from Texaco in 1979. At that time they decided to move to Malakoff
where they lived for 10 years. She became a member of the First
Baptist Church of Malakoff and was very active. In 1989 they moved
back to Corsicana and affiliated once again with First Baptist
Church where she became the outreach leader for the Senior Citizens
Department for 16 years. During her retired years she and her
husband traveled all around the country with the Senior Citizens of
the church.
She enjoyed fishing with her neighbors and playing with the great
grandchildren and she always made room for the less fortunate. She
was active with the Solid Rockers at the church and sang with church
members who went every week to the Twilight Home.
Survivors include her two daughters, Martha and husband Jim Kirgan
of Kirvin, Mary Jane and husband Ronnie Wylie of Corsicana; five
grandchildren Jim Kirgan Jr. and wife Cindy of Teague, Kimberly
Kirgan of Mexia, Meagan Langley and husband Darren of Kirvin,
Christopher Wylie and wife Julie of Victoria, and one special person
Donna Patterson; six great grandchildren Kayse, Kyle, and Kourtnee
Kirgan, Grady and Sarah Langley, and Ethan Williams; one
sister-in-law Kitty Huff of Houston and several nieces and nephews.
Two adopted sons Herb Adcock and wife LuJean of Iowa Park and E.J.
Pricer and wife Lucille of Garland, and one God child Nancy Schusler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her brothers
Estes Huff, Jack Huff, Johnny Huff and Fred L. Huff Jr., and one
granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Wylie.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Griffin -
Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at graveside on
Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at
Resthaven Memorial Park
in Corsicana with Rev. B.F. Risinger officiating. Grandsons and
great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Elaine Shipley, age 87, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at
Twilight Home in Corsicana. She was born June 10, 1924 in
Corsicana to John and Mae Bryant.
Mrs. Shipley was a member of the 2nd Avenue Baptist Church
in Corsicana. She was a previous employee of Falcon Business
Forms and had worked several years for Haggar Slacks.
She was survived by a daughter, Georgia Jernigan and husband
Charles of Fredericksburg; a grandson, Jason Jernigan of
Kansas City, Missouri; a granddaughter, Christine Jernigan
of Osage Beach, Missouri; and three great granddaughters.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at
Campbell-Elrod Cemetery with Rev. Charles McBride

He was born Oct. 4, 1935 in Corsicana to Kelton and Mozelle
Sikes. Mr. Sikes was a member of the Ennis Cowboy Church. He
was a family man that will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Delight Sikes; a
son, Clifton Sikes and wife Paula; two daughters, Ginger
Sikes, and Karen Sikes Moore and husband Jim; three
brothers, Odis Sikes, Ernest Sikes and Billy Gene Sikes; a
grandson, Clinton Sikes; two granddaughters, Leyla Norman

Parker Sikes; and a great granddaughter, Abbey Norman.

Mrs. Bertha May Adams, 89, of Corsicana and formerly of New
Hampshire passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012 at her residence.
She was born on July 26, 1922 in Tuftonboro, N.H., to parents,
Walter and Eva Robinson.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Farmington, N.H. and the
American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Adams; daughter,
Dr. Joyce Robinson; and brothers, Roy Dow and Harold Dow.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Adams of Corsicana; son,
Kenneth Adams Jr. of Milton, N.H., grandchildren, Scott Adams of
Corsicana, Stacy Baker of Cleburne, Harold Emerson, Joshua Smith,

Kimber Muldner came into this world and left this world on Monday,
March 5, 2012. She is cherished and will be missed by her parents

Alicelee and Pete Nemers; her aunts and uncles Eli Heugatter,

and countless cousins as well as precious friends Paula McNeil,

Ray Burleson, loving wife and mother, went to be with her
Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 8, 2012.
She was born June 12, 1929 in Rice to Beaulah and Walter E.
Harris Sr. On August 20, 1948, she married Bonham Burleson,
the love of her life, and was married for 63 years. They
made Longview their home after retirement.
Fama was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Jo Gullatt,
Mildred H. Burk and Ruby H. Oakley; and children, Patricia
Ann Burleson and Larry Gene Burleson.
Survivors include her husband, Bonham Burleson; one brother,
Sonny Eugene Harris Jr. of Covington, GA.; four children and
their spouses, David and Beverly Burleson of Longview, Tommy
Burleson of Dallas, Brenda Burleson of Texarkana and Gail
and Roger McKay of Sherman; ten grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
She was greatly loved and will be forever missed.

Newlife Baptist Church in Longview. Graveside service will

Emma Lu Ingham, resident of Dallas and more recently Corsicana,
passed away on Friday March 9, 2012 in Corsicana with her family at
her side at the age of 76. She was born in Corsicana on March 25,
1935 to Richard Earl Ingham Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Green Ingham. She
was a retired bookkeeper retiring twice, once in 2008 and again in
2011. She has worked for the Corsicana ISD, Bonanza Steak House
Corporation, Treasurer for Jimmy Dean, and BSN / Sports Supply
Group. Emma was a member of the Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas
where she served in many areas of work and was a long time choir
member.
She was preceded by her parents Richard Earl Ingham Sr. and Mary
Elizabeth Green Ingham. Survivors include her brother Jon Ingham and
wife Donna of Corsicana and sister- in-law June Ingham of Corsicana.
Niece Aimee Kasprzyk and husband David of Corsicana, nephews Jon
Ingham and wife Candice of Corsicana and Sam Ingham of Austin. Great
nieces Sarah and Anna Kasprzyk and great nephews Carter Wells and
Isaac Ingham, and a number of cousins and extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 1pm in the Chapel at Griffin - Roughton

TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR E. F. FREDERICK
Funeral services for E. Ferrell Frederick, aged 20 years, who died
in the Navarro clinic Monday afternoon from head injuries, were held
Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the Frost Methodist church with
interment in the Frost Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. L.
M. Mahon, pastor of the church.
Frederick, who had been home from the Navy only two weeks, was
working on a maintainer belonging to the county when the heavy tire
rim broke, striking him on the right side of the head.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jo Marie Bailey, to whom he was
married last January, Frost, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Frederick,
Frost and several brothers and sisters and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Clyde Wilson, John L. Moore, Scotty Malone, Will
Roy Phillips, Tiny Green and Corbin Green.

Funeral services for L. A. Morgan, aged 79 years, of Frost, who died
in the Navarro clinic Friday afternoon following an extended illness
were held from the Frost Baptist church Saturday afternoon, Burial
was in the Frost Cemetery with. Rev. Ellis, pastor of the church, in
charge.
A native of Louisiana, Morgan had been connected with the Frost
Lumber Company for 61 years, and was one of the best-known merchants
and citizens of West Navarro county.
Surviving are two sons, L. C. Morgan, Corsicana, and Ray W. Morgan,
Roswell, N. M.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Mrs. Lulu Etheridge, Frost, and Mrs. Ella Clonch, Waco, and
other relatives.

FROST, July 18.—Funeral services for S. S. Hooser, 89, extensive
landowner and prominent citizen of this community, were to be held
at 5 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Frost Baptist church, with
interment following in Frost Cemetery.
The Rev. C. C. Ellis, pastor, was to officiate at the rites and
grandsons of the deceased were to serve as pallbearers.
Hooser died at his home here at 8 o’clock Wednesday night. He was
born in Red River county August 5, 1856, and moved to Frost at the
age of six.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Amon Scott and Mrs. Fletcher
Bonnett, Frost; Mrs. Fesley Goodwin, Ennis, and Mrs. Joe Keitt,
Hubbard; three sons, Willie Hooser, Dallas, and Tom and Ernest

her life.

Surviving are three sons, Hubert, Roy and Gilmer Ryan, all of
Bakersfield, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. W. R. Daniel, Corsicana;
Mrs. Alice Reed and
Mrs. Allie Mae Brockett, both of Bakersfield; a number of
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle
Gray and Mrs. Jodie Sheppard, both of Frost; Mrs. Sallie Fitzgerald,
Corsicana, and Mrs. Mitte Jackson, Houston; two brothers, Will and
Arthur Meadows, both of Waxahachie, and other relatives.
Nephews will be pallbearers.

AGED FROST WOMAN BURIED IN EMMETT CEMETERY SUNDAY
FROST, Oct. 9.—(Spl.)—Mrs. Frances Allene Lance, aged 74 years, died
Saturday. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock
from the Methodist church. Burial was in the
Emmett cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. W. V. Bane and Rev. D. P. Cagle.
Surviving are five sons, E. K. Lance, Dallas; J. A. Lance, F. H.
Lance and M. B. Lance, all of Mexia, and W. P. Lance, Richland; two
daughters, Mrs. J. M. Fields. Frost, and Mrs. R. R. Harris, Houston,
and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

FROST, Oct. 7.—(Spl.)—Mrs. Jennie Lance, aged 74 years, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs.
J. M. Fields, Jones Ranch community, Saturday.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Frost Methodist
church, with burial in the
Emmett cemetery.
She was a pioneer resident of this section.
Surviving are two daughters, several sons, and a number of other
relatives.

“Jane” Busby, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on
Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at her daughter's home in Corsicana.
Relda Jane was born on Nov. 11, 1922 to Birt Knight and Mary
Huffman Marks in Gurdon, Ark. She was married to Richard
Howard Busby, Sr. and they moved to Center in 1959. They
were married for 64 years and had three daughters and one
son. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Center
for 50 years, Jane taught the Martha Class for many years
and served on Bereavement and Prayer Committees. In earlier
years she was a member of the Center Garden Club. She
enjoyed working in her home for her family, helping others
in need, and working alongside her husband while they built
a lake home on Toledo Bend for the family and remodeled a
historical home in Shelbyville, Texas. In her last years
Jane faithfully attended Calvary Worship in Corsicana while
living with her daughter, Joyce and family.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard
H. Busby, Sr., brothers, James Raymond Marks, Rea Dod Marks
and sisters, Ardell Marks McDonald, and Anna Glendyne Marks
Beard.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Kathleen
Smith and husband Howard, Jr. of Lewisville; Jacquilyn
Cochran and husband Gregg of Round Rock; Richard Howard
Busby, Jr. and wife Jolene of Center; and Joyce Cawthorn and
her husband Roy of Corsicana. She is survived by nine
grandchildren: Howard G. Smith, III, of Lewisville, Ryan
McClain of Denver, Colo., Mary Bracken and husband Ben of
Midland, Jennifer Windham and husband Jonathan, of Center,
Byron “Trey” McDonald, of Corsicana, Richard H. Busby, III
of Haltom City, Timothy Yancy, Thomas Cawthorn, and Austin
Yancy of Corsicana. Her great grandchildren include Nicholas
Windham, Rhiannon Windham, and Christopher McDonald.
Jane was a faithful witness for Jesus Christ to her family
and the world. Jane cherished Ms. Mary Terry and her best
friend Velma McElroy.
The family wants to express its heartfelt thanks to Cedar
Lake Hospice in Corsicana for their special care and Calvary
Worship for their loving support.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15,
2012, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16,
2012, at First Baptist Church in Center, Texas, with Brother
Carl Smith officiating and grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First
Baptist Church, Center, “Lottie Moon Offering” or Calvary
Worship Center's Youth Ministry, Corsicana.
