Etta May Tapley, 68, of Mabank died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, in
Tyler.
She was born April 20, 1938, in Blooming Grove to Lenard Carl and
Lovie D. Murdock. Etta moved to Mabank from Houston in 1978. She
worked as a supervisor in the hotel industry. She loved being around
her family and friends, and sports. She was a member of First
Assembly of God Church in Malakoff.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam and Cliff Hinds of Kemp and Kim
and Gene Smith of Eureka; two sons, James and Sherry Tapley of Ben
Wheeler and Carl and Paula Tapley of Frankston; grandchildren,
Haylea Hinds of Kemp, J.D., Heather and Faith Tapley of Ben Wheeler,
Wes, Wade and Jesse Smith of Eureka, and Russ Tapley of Frankston;
her dear friends of Pecan Grove Apartments in Mabank; and her
beloved companion, Toots of Mabank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lenard and Lovie Murdock;
and husband, James Ellis Tapley Sr.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tomlinson
Funeral Home in Seven Points.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God in
Malakoff with Brother Ken Jones officiating. Interment will follow
at Malakoff Cemetery.

Navarro Regional Hospital.

Mr. Wade was born Sept. 13, 1943, in Corsicana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Tressie Mae Sims
Wade; and sisters and brothers, Teresa Bush, Dewey Wade, Lonnie
Wade, Dorothy Lee White, Fred Butler and L.P. Phillips.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Wade, Christopher Wade, Jeffery
Wade and Eugene White Jr.; one sister, Lula Williams; two brothers,
Ira Wade and Willie Wade; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends including a special friend,
Atheree Wadley.

Ola Mae Burke McCann, 92, of Conroe passed away peacefully in her
sleep on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Willis Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 8, 1915, in Blooming Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Birdie Burke;
sisters, Jimmie Dee Powell and Dorothy Petty; and her husband, the
Rev. Gene Jack McCann.
She is survived by her foster son, Dr. Sixto Herrera Ramirez of
Monterrey, Mexico; her sister, Cosia S. Rau of Corpus Christi;
nephew, Riley Gene Petty of Corpus Christi; and nieces, Glenda
Harris and Linda (Paul) Rothgeb, both of Corpus Christi.
Mrs. McCann was a devoted wife and Christian and spent her married
life in the mission fields with her husband helping others. She will
always be remembered and forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cashner Funeral
Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cashner
Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Wes Pratt officiating. Burial will
follow at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ottie O.Young Dies Thursday
KERENS, April 23 (Spl) Ottle O. Young, 62, native of Pittsburg,
Texas, died at his home here Thursday. He was a retired watchmaker
and World War II veteran.
Young had resided here 14 years.
Funeral services will be held from the Paschal Funeral Chapel
Saturday at 3 p.m. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Don Walker,
pastor of the First Baptist church, of which he was a member.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Roney, Emhouse, and Mrs. C. H.
Hamer, Quitaque; a brother, T. H. Young, Austin, and other
relatives.

Funeral services for Cecil McManus, 71, were held Monday at 4 p.m.
at Corley Funeral Home.
McManus died Sunday in Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Black
Hills, a retired poultryman, a member of Petty’s Chapel Baptist
Church and a veteran of World
War I.
The Rev. V. E. Tanner, pastor of Petty’s Chapel church, officiated.
Burial was in Resthaven
Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife of Corsicana; a son, Lt. Cmdr. Cecil Lee
McManus of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren; five brothers, J. D.
of Corsicana, R. A. of Dallas, R. J. of Ennis, Oren of Waco and Jack
of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Collins of Emhouse and Mrs. C.
W. Williams of Amarillo.
Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Corsicana Lodge No. 174

Ann Gullatt died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at her residence
at the age of 62. She was born to John and Rita Johnston on
May 18, 1948 in Corsicana. Beverly attended Corsicana ISD
and was employed with many businesses including Falcon
Business Forms for 20 years. She was a licensed
cosmetologist and beautician. She resided in Texas cities
such as Bellmead, Clifton, Eureka and Corsicana and settled
in Mildred. She was a member of the Mildred Baptist Church
for 23 years.
She is survived by her husband Herman Gullatt; daughter
Leecia Arnett and husband Brad of Corsicana; daughter Tina
Fountain of Tyler; son Jim Bell and wife Tracie of Kingwood
and son Stephen Bell of Corsicana; mother Rita Johnson of
Corsicana; brothers - Jack Johnston and Sandra of Alma,
Bobby Johnston and Patti of Kerens, David Johnston and Kim
of Corsicana; 5 grandchildren - Nicole Bell, Jordan
Fountain, DJ Combs-Hanner, Joshua Fountain and Kylie Combs-Hanner;
grandson and caregiver Blake Gullatt; step-daughters -
Carolyn Arthur of Katy and Patricia Horton of DeSoto; 8
step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.

V. “Mama” Howze

 On
Friday, March 6, 2010, Birdie V. “Mama” Howze passed away
peacefully from this world to dwell forever in heaven with
her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and God Almighty. Birdie
was born in Waco on March 20, 1933, to the parentage of
Robert and Hazel Mason. She was the youngest of three
children and was such a blessing to her sister, Julia, and
her brother, Robert. She professed her faith in Christ and
united with Antioch Baptist Church under R.L. Bailey. She
completed her formal education in the Waco ISD, graduating
the top of her class from J.J. Moore High School. She
received her B.S. degree from Paul Quinn College in Waco and
her M.S. degree from Sam Houston State. Later she worked on
her doctorate from Tuskegee Institute.
In 1962, she married Clarence Howze and relocated to
Corsicana. She began working at Jackson Elementary School
and later became assistant principal at Sam Houston
Elementary, ending her career as an educator at Corsicana
High School as a guidance counselor. Along her way she
bonded with other teachers, who became friends for a
lifetime. She united with Sixth Avenue Baptist Church under
the leadership of the Rev. E.C. Reynolds. There she served
faithfully, until joining her son, the Rev. D.R. Watson, in
his first pastorate at New Cornerstone Missionary Baptist
Church. Mama Howze served as an advisor to the Women’s
Missionary Society, mother of the church, and a strong
prayer warrior until God called her from earth to glory on
Friday. She accomplished so many great things in her
lifetime; she was an accomplished writer and an outstanding
speaker and teacher. She served this community tirelessly,
including a brief term as a member of the city council and
having May 16 named as Birdie Howze Day. She wore many hats
and wore them all well. She will greatly be missed by her
family, both her church families, her many relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her soul mate, Clarence; her
parents and brother; and also her special friends, Pearl
Carroll and Juanita Tankersley.
Funeral services for Mama Howze will be held at 1 p.m.
Friday, March 12, at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 125 S.
Fifth St. Officiating minister will be the Rev. M.L. Green,
assistant pastor New Cornerstone, and eulogist will be
Bishop K.D. Davis Sr., pastor of Sixth Avenue Baptist
Church. Interment will follow at
Resthaven Memorial
Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Joe Ballard, Danzell
Lee, Don Jones Sr., Richard Washington, Melvin Williams and
Larry Wilson.
She leaves to cherish and remember her always, her son, the

Church, Corsicana; granddaughter, Christi Jones of
Corsicana; grandsons, Brian Bates of Corsicana and Nathaniel
Bates of Tyler; sister, Julia Pratt of Waco; and a host

New Cornerstone Church family and the Sixth Avenue Church
family; her devoted friend and confident, Shirley Ware; and
special friends Cleo Lee, Molly Sparks, the Carrolls (Ezra,

James Hansel Derryberry, 89, of Corsicana, passed away July 24,
2010, in Corsicana.
He was born May 5, 1921, in Barry to James Horace and Luttie Pearl
Derryberry.
James was a generous loving husband and father. He graduated from
Barry High School and attended Navarro College. On Nov. 20, 1948, he
married Barbara Ann and they were married for 56 years. He served in
World War II as a Private First Class for four years as Military
Police and rifle sharpshooter. He received American Theater Campaign
Medal, EAME Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory
Medal and a letter of recognition from President Harry S. Truman. He
did many things by trade including blacksmith, teacher and fixture
builder for K. Wolens.
Mr. Derryberry is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and
Debbie Derryberry of Corsicana; daughter, Beverly Hatley of
McKinney; five grandchildren, Stacey Hatley Vail and husband Jason
of Plano, Marc Derryberry of Austin, Darrel Derryberry and Michael
Derryberry, both of Corsicana, and Chris Hatley and wife Brandi of
Plano; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by wife, Barbara Ann Derryberry, onJuly 17,
2004; and by sisters, Elna Lane and Beatrice Lane.
Graveside services were held Tuesday July 27, 2010, at
Resthaven Memorial Park
with Bro. Bill Honea officiating.
The family would like to thank the second floor and ICU nursing
staff at Navarro Regional Hospital, Dr. Updegrove, and Dr.
Ballesteros for their father's care and efforts to keep him as
comfortable as possible.

Adam Hays, 86, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at his
residence in Mabank, Texas.
He was born September 7, 1923, in Cayuga, Texas, to Charlie
and Ada Susie Hays. He had worked for the Stroube Ranch in
Corsicana, and then worked several years for McKee Lumber in
Corsicana before retiring.
Survivors include his two sons, John Wayne Hays and Billy
Ray Hays; two daughters, Ruby Insell and Elizabeth Ann
Fagan; brother, Charlie Eugene Hays; and she is also
survived by eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Corley
Funeral Home. The funeral service, following visitation,
will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Corley Funeral Home
Chapel. interment will follow at
Resthaven Memorial
Park.

Ybarra Mahoney 32, passed away in Corsicana, and went to be
with the Lord on July 22, 2010. She was born Sept. 20,1977,
in Anniston, Alabama and grew up in Corsicana. Alicia is
survived by her children Acie & Jaxsen Mahoney, her husband
Justin Mahoney, Her parents John & Connie Lang and Tony &
Mitzi Ybarra, her sisters Chanda Willis, and Chasidy Ybarra,
brother in law Jonathon Willis, brothers Jonathan Lang,
David Lang, and Timothy Lang, niece Canaan Willis, and
nephew River Watson. She has numerous aunts and uncles from
Alabama and Texas.
Alicia graduated Corsicana High School in
1996 and also attended Navarro College and Texas
Community Junior College in Arlington. She received her
Medical assistance certification in Dallas, with emphasis in
office management and received her acceptance into nursing
school. She then went to work for Casita Enterprises Inc.
where she worked her way up to becoming President of
marketing and distribution of Casita products. She was
employed there for 11 yrs.
Alicia became family with nearly everyone who works at
Casita and will be dearly missed by the company, family, and
friends. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile and
her passionate love she held for her loved ones.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday July 25 at
Griffin Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be held at
First Baptist Church, Corsicana, 3 p.m., Monday, July 26
with Dr. Carey Ford officiating. Interment will follow at

 Charles
“Buddy” Poston of Palestine and formerly of Corsicana and
Arlington, passed away Tuesday at Greenbrier Nursing Home.
He was born March 31, 1928 in Athens to Clarence and Edna
(Young) Poston. Mr. Poston was a retired machinist and moved
to Palestine in 1993 after retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers
James Poston, W.C. Poston, and Don Poston and a sister Faye
Tyer.
Mr. Poston is survived by his wife Bonnie Poston, sons David
Poston, Gary Poston, and Larry Poston, five grandchildren,
Vicky, Kyle, Tasha, Kristen, and Jennifer and numerous great
grandchildren, three daughters-in-law, Mary, Diane and Lana,
sisters, Margaret Stone, Billie Dyess, Peggy Hammond and Joy
Murphy.
Mr. Poston loved life and his family. He was a hard worker
as a machinist for many years while living in Arlington. He
will be missed very much by his loving family, friends and
good pal Bill Brown.

In Memoriam
When we see the day close for one who has been friend to his
neighbor, a magnet for his family and an example of strong,
courageous manhood to all who knew him. the wish comes to our hearts
that some other light should rise as his goes down, catching the
brightest ray, passing on the accumulated knowledge of a long life
of manly goodness. Such a man was William Carroll Petty. He was a
native of Dickson county, Tennessee, born in the year 1824. and
while yet a young man came to Texas, in 1848. There are only three
persons living in this county who were here when he came, namely,
Mrs. S. J. Britton, near Pryor, Mrs. Mary Miller and Mrs. Jane
Beaton of Corsicana. He was a staunch democrat and never failed to
vote at every general election since he became of age. He is
survived by six children: Joe Petty of Chatfield, Mrs. K. M. McElroy
of Corsicana, Mrs. McCull, John T. Petty and Robert Petty of Angus
and Mrs. M. Blackmon, of Los Angeles, Cal. He also leaves two
sisters, Mrs. Riley Boren of Ray, Ellis county, and Mrs. Bettie
Barress of Malone, Hill county. He lived for forty years at his home
near Angus in the enjoyment of his broad acres. Rising with the sun
and ceasing his loved labors only with its going down, and now, like
one who wraps his mantel 'round him, he has laid him down to
pleasant slumbers.

John K. Beck

John K. Beck Sr. lived a full life that was devoted to the Lord, to
his family, and to community service. He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in
Kerens, the son of John Caleb and Clyde Daniel Beck.
Beck died on Jan. 9, 2011, at his beloved ranch outside of Kerens
due to heart failure.
He was a rancher and a petroleum landman, but earlier in his life he
worked for Elmin Howell’s Car Dealership as a bookkeeper. In the
1950s he raised English shepherd cattle dogs for a national market.
Much of his life was spent in Democratic Party politics. In the late
1950s, Beck worked with Burton Sneed and Beatrice Jones to help
African Americans vote, almost a decade before the Voting Rights Act
of 1965 was passed. He was the Democratic Party County Chairman in
Navarro County for 16 years and served on the Kerens City Council
for about a decade in the 1960s. He played a leadership role in the
efforts that brought a hospital to Kerens in the late 1960s. He was
a member of the Kerens Presbyterian Church from an early age, he
served that congregation as a member of the session, treasurer,
Sunday school teacher, and occasionally as a replacement pastor for
well over fifty years.
Beck married Cornelia “Kenna” Watson on April 25, 1959. After living
in Philadelphia for six weeks, the couple made their home in Kerens.
They have two children, Dr. Nancy Clyde Beck Young and Dr. John
Keitt Beck Jr. Nancy is
married to Dr. Mark E. Young, and they live in Houston with their
son, Thomas Eldon Young. John Keitt is married to Shari Beck, and
they live in Corsicana with their children, John Keitt Beck III,
Rudy Andrew Beck, and Sarah Ann Beck.
Visitation is at Paschal Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011.
Funeral services will be at the Kerens Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m.
on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, the Reverends Charles A. Reese, Lynette
Soloman, and Johnny Vannibuls will officiate. Pallbearers are Brian
Arnold, A.L. Atkeisson, Bobby Henderson, Brett Latta, Henry Lindsey,
Gerald Thomas, and Randy Tolliver. Honorary pallbearers are Collie

Zelma Fay Brown Austin, of Blooming Grove, passed away at her son’s
home in Fort Worth on November 23, 2010. She was the loving daughter
of Jim and Eula Mae Brown. Preceding her in death were her parents,
one brother and a husband.
Survived by her sons, Jimmy Kirby, of Alvarado, and Steven and wife
Belanda, of Fort Worth as well as two brothers, Tom and wife Delores
Brown of Palmer, Gene Brown of Fort Worth; one sister Diane and
husband David Lambert of Blooming Grove; four grandchildren and ten
great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fay lived with her sister Diane in Booming Grove and recently moved
with her son Steven just this year.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Zelma Fay Brown Austin, of Blooming Grove, passed away at her
son's home in Forth Worth on November 23, 2010. She was the loving

and Katherine Boyte; her husband of 49 years, Clifton Russell; and
her son, Bill Russell.

Frances Novak Williams, 88, of Corsicana passed away on Jan. 25,
2011, in Corsicana.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1922 in Corsicana to Ethel Mae Novak and
Bert Henry Novak. She had one brother, Clarence Curtis Novak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her
husband.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Williams and his wife, Maureen
Williams, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She
worked for Safeway Stores for 33 years. She married Earnest Eugene
Williams on March 25, 1939. Their blessed union lasted until his
death in 1992.
In honor of her request, there will be no public visitation or
services. She had many friends and will truly be missed by all.

Rick Putnam, 74, of Corsicana, husband of 16 years to Pat Putnam,
passed away on Dec 31, 2010, at Navarro Regional Hospital, after a
long battle with cancer.
Rick was born June 6, 1936, to late parents Otillia and Claude
Putnam. After growing up in Southern California he enlisted in the
U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. Rick served his country during the
Korean War and upon successful
completion of his tour with the Marines, Rick eventually began his
career as a barber. He was a resident of Corsicana for 31 years and
owned several local barber shops during that time.
Survivors include son Brian Putnam of Houston; daughter Tracy
Scheurer and husband John of Riverside, Calif.; son Aaron Putnam and
wife Teri of Folsom, Calif.; and son Ryan Putnam and wife Jacquelyn
of Houston; step-daughter Michelle Daniels and husband Jamie of
Whitesboro; nine grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife Cindy Putnam, mother to Aaron
and Ryan.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the
American Legion, 602 N. Beaton in Corsicana.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the spouse will be accepted by the
American Legion.

Merdis Marie (Sims) Woods

Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, Merdis Sims Woods left this life for
a better place. Merdis was born Jan. 12, 1930 in Navarro
County, Texas. She was the youngest child of Elizah and Amie
Sims. She was a beautiful child who received all of the
attention from her parents and older siblings.
Merdis Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Elizah
and Amie; husband, Nathaniel Woods, brothers, Wilmer Sims
and Chester Sims, and her sisters, Ora V. Sims and Rosie Lee
Sims James.
Merdis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at
the Browns Valley Baptist Church. In moving to Corsicana,
she united with the Second Mission Baptist Church under the
late Reverend Paul Curry. She met and married Nathaniel
Woods. They did not have children, but loved and adored
their many nieces and nephews.
Merdis enjoyed many hobbies, especially cooking and fishing.
Her cooking was outstanding with a specialty in making
salads of many kinds. In her early years, Merdis enjoyed
living in Dallas, Corpus Christi and visits to California.
However, in her later years, she traveled throughout Texas
with her sisters. She and her sisters loved fine dining and
could be found “eating out” all over Navarro County.
Merdis leaves to cherish her memories her sister, Marilyn
“Tammy” Sims Brown of Corsicana, and a host of nieces and
nephews: John Brown Jr., Finis Nelson (Patricia) of Dallas,
Martha Brown of Corsicana, Lucille Sims Williams (Rostell)
of Tyler, Chester Sims Jr., of Dallas, Elaine Sims Bluitt

 Betty
Hayes Arnett went to be with our Lord and Savior Tuesday,
Feb. 28, 2012 at age 64, after a long and courageous battle
with cancer. She was born Aug. 23, 1947 to Ruel and Mattie
Hayes in Corsicana. She was a beloved mother, grandmother
and wife. She was a longtime member of Missionary Baptist
Church of Corsicana.
Betty worked at Southwestern Bell for many years before
graduating from Navarro College with a degree in
Occupational Therapy. She worked at Heritage Oaks Retirement
Center in Corsicana and Trinity Nursing Home in Italy. She
was a lady of deep Christian faith and was devoted to her
family. She was so proud of all of her children and
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters,
Billie and Theresa.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Arnett of Corsicana;
her daughter, Stacey Goodwin of Corsicana; son, Darren
Arnett and wife Melissa of Richardson; grandchildren, Jacob,
Macy and Sam Cole of Corsicana and Lela Arnett of
Richardson; brother, Johnny Hayes and wife Anda of
Corsicana; sister, Peggy Whitney of California; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday,

Update: One dead in early morning fire

 At
least one fatality has been confirmed in an early Saturday morning
house fire on West Third Avenue near 26th Street in Corsicana.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 525 am Saturday and
found the home fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were able to
keep the fire from spreading to adjacent structures while battling
the two-story house fire.
There is one confirmed fatality — firefighters found a body in an
upstairs bedroom at the home, but the identity of the victim has not
been released.
The home is just west of 26th Street on Third Avenue, although there
is some confusion as to the correct house number. In that block
along Third Avenue, houses on the south side of the street indicate
the 1500 block, while houses on the north side of Third Avenue say
it is the 1700 block.

CORSICANA - An early morning fire in Corsicana Saturday has left one
dead and a two-story house on West Third Avenue completely
destroyed.
The identity of the victim has not been released, pending an autopsy
ordered by Justice of the Peace Jackie Freeland.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 525 a.m. Saturday and
found the home fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were able to
keep the fire from spreading to adjacent structures while battling
the fire. Cold pre-sunrise temperatures of around 35 degrees
challenged fire crews fighting the blaze.
Corsicana Fire Chief Donald McMullan said the victim was found in an
upstairs bedroom toward the rear of the home. McMullan said the fire
likely started in the lower floor of the home and spread to the
upper floor, where it erupted into a giant ball of fire visible for
several blocks.
The home at 1561 West Third is just west of 26th Street on Third
Avenue, although there is some confusion as to the correct house
number. In that block along Third Avenue, houses on the south side
of the street indicate the 1500 block, while houses on the north
side of Third Avenue say it is the 1700 block.
No firefighters were hurt in the incident, McMullan said. The cause
of the fire is still under investigation.
Freeland said he believes he knows the identity of the victim, but
ordered the forensic examination to be certain.
Family Identifies Fire Victim
Corsicana - The local man killed in an early morning fire in
Corsicana Saturday has been identified by the family as Emmison
Ward, who was 50.
Ward worked as a carpenter, and did a lot of remodeling work,
according to his sister, Lizzie Lawrence of Kerens.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church
in Kerens with Pastor Ernest Betts officiating.
State officials haven’t officially identified Ward yet, waiting on
confirmation from the forensics examiners in Dallas.
"We know," Lawrence said. "When they described him, we knew."
The fire took place at 1561 W. Third Avenue in Corsicana.
Investigators told Lawrence the source of the fire seems to have
been a gas heater that was left on downstairs. The victim was found
upstairs in the bedroom.
Ward was part of a large family, growing up as one of 10 children in
the Ward family. Ward is also survived by his son, Jason Ward, of
Kerens. He had a daughter who preceded him in death.

Denise Barlow Nabors of Corsicana passed away Thursday,
March 1, 2012 in her home with her family by her side and a
smile on her face. She was born July 20, 1960 in Corsicana
to Lester Eugene Barlow and Othera May Carpenter Barlow.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Barlow, and
her grandparents, William “Bill” Barlow and Bessie Barlow,
and Ernest “Pat” Carpenter and Dora Carpenter.
She is survived by her children, Jeremy and Jason Gullatt
and Krista Nabors, all of Corsicana; nine grandchildren;
mother, Othera May Carpenter Barlow; brother, Sandy Eugene
Barlow and wife Pat; and a whole county of friends and
supporters.
Sharon was a source of inspiration to so many people, the
picture of a true fighter who was sent here to do God’s
work. She fought a long and difficult battle with cancer
like a true champion. For those who were blessed to get to
know Sharon, you know that she never once let her illness
get her down. She continued to help others instead of
worrying about herself. She persisted in going out to give
hugs to others even while she was in pain, never once
letting anyone know anything was wrong. Her smile was
contagious and would light up the room. The Lord truly
blessed us all by bringing Sharon into our lives.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2012

Nabors passes after
courageous cancer fight

Corsicana -
With a radiant smile, brilliant blue eyes, and a generous,
caring heart, Sharon Barlow Nabors drew others to her like a
magnet.
Through her valiant fight with breast cancer, she never gave
up, and continued to reach out to help others with cancer,
encourage ones with relationship troubles, support friends
on the campaign trail, and minister in many ways to so many
people.
Sharon Nabors passed away Thursday morning at the age of 51,
in her home with her family surrounding her.
"It has been said or asked so many times - how can one
person such as Sharon Nabors have touched so many hearts,
minds and lives?" said close friend Becky Chandler. "She
cheered us up when we were down, she encouraged us when we
needed it the most. Sharon told me so many times she
couldn't express enough ‘Thank you for your supports' to
all.
"I believe this is a new beginning for our community to show
we do stand by each other, and we must develop some new ways
and continue our togetherness."
The most recent benefit held for Sharon Nabors and her
family was just this past Sunday, when friends, neighbors
and even total strangers turned out to help "the courageous
warrior."
Through her illness, when people rallied to give blood, or
bake pies, or wear "Sharon shirts" in support of her, a
common bond united this community in a unique way. Because
of her giving, encouraging spirit, she has made an indelible
mark on our community.
Cordy Sanches has been best friends with Sharon for 30
years, and took her to Texas Oncology and Baylor Hospital
for treatments. Sanches said it didn't matter which doctor's
office they went to, there were pictures of Nabors with
other patients, because she made friends wherever she went,
spreading cheer and encouragement to others.
"When she got cancer, it changed her whole way of thinking
and doing," Sanches said. "She wanted to reach out to other
people and make a difference, and show them you could make a
difference. She wanted people to know you could fight and
survive, you didn't have to give up. She truly believed
that."
Sanches said Sharon was the first one to attend any benefit
for someone else, and even though she lived on a very fixed
income, she would either purchase what she could, or try to
help with the event by procuring donations.
"She just has the biggest heart of any person I've known in
my life," Sanches said. "I hope when I grow up I’m going to
be just like her. So many people have met each other through
Sharon it's amazing. She has brought so many people
together.
"They just don’t come any better than her."
She is survived by her children, Jeremy and Jason Gullatt
and Krista Nabors; nine grandchildren; her mother, Othera
May Carpenter Barlow; brother, Sandy Eugene Barlow and wife
Pat, special cousin Kari Baker, and countless friends and
loved ones.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Corley Funeral

Marion Wesley Warner; son, Terry Warner; and siblings, Guvia
Richards, Ruben Moody, A.W. Moody, Avanola Jones, Gola
Sumner, Doyle Moody and Ruby Jewel Moody.
She is survived by her son, Wesley Warner of California;
daughters, Sherry Tomlinson and husband Ron of Corsicana,
and Pamela Pierce and husband Ricky of Fairfield;
grandchildren, Rosamond Tomlinson and fiancé Warren Sonnen
of Dallas, Larkin Coston III of Corsicana, Misty Pierce and
fiancé Jason Levinson of Houston, Amber Pierce of Fairfield,
and Desiree Marciel and husband Joey of Buda;
great-grandchildren, Michael Coston of Purdon, Jillian

Val loved her family deeply and everything she did was for
them. She orchestrated family reunions in order to keep all
of the relatives close. She was a woman of deep faith. She
was a Charter member of Emmanuel Baptist church and taught
the young adults in Sunday school for many years. She loved
flowers and everything about gardening. She was very
artistic, and she could make most anything she touched into
something beautiful.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, March 4, 2012 at
Corley Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

her residence at the age of 59. A resident of Corsicana, she

Woody Thompson. She graduated from the Pine Tree High School
in Longview, Texas and was an accountant.
She is survived by her husband David Croom of Corsicana;
children — Ryan Douglas and Jonathan Croom of Corsicana,
Alison Mahoney and Troy of Burleson and Brenna Croom of
Houston; number of nieces and nephews and one grandchild
Kyle Mahoney of Burleson.

BARRY MAN VICTIM IN HIGHWAY CRASH ACCIDENT SATURDAY
SIDNEY L. MITCHELL WAS EIGHTH AUTO ACCIDENT VICTIM OF YEAR
Sidney L. Mitchell, aged 57 years, of near Barry, was fatally
injured while walking along Highway 22 west of Barry Saturday night
when apparently he was struck by a hit-and-run driver, Sheriff Cap
Curington reported Sunday. Investigations were inaugurated in an
effort to determine the driver of the cur involved.
Mitchell, according to officers, had gotten out of an automobile a
short distance west of Barry about 6 o'clock Saturday evening with
the intention of walking back to Barry.
Found by Passerby.
Sheriff Curington was advised that Mitchell's body was discovered by
Ernie Williams of Cryer Creek alongside the payment. After passing
the site, Williams is reported to have turned his car around and
about the time he stopped and found the body, other motorists
stopped.
Officers reported that the left leg, left arm and back of the head
were crushed.
Mitchell's death is the eighth auto traffic fatality in Navarro
County during 1940.
He was a native of Alabama, but had resided in Navarro County for
the past thirty-two, years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the
Methodist Church at Barry.
Rev. Mr. Morton conducted the rites.
Surviving are his wife of Barry; two daughters, Miss Ida Mae
Mitchell and Mrs. H. V. Ragsdale;
son, Jesse B. Mitchell, all of Barry; three sisters, Mrs. Katie
Cole, Mrs. Mattie Rucker and Mrs. P. S. Dunnavant, and two brothers,
Holl Mitchell and Tom Mitchell, all of Alabama.

Harvey Ballew Services Held
Final rites for Harvey C. Ballew, 57. native of Emmett,
superintendent of Lampasas schools, who died Monday night of a heart
attack, were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist church
in Lampasas of which he was a deacon.
Masonic services were held at the
Emmett cemetery at
3:30 p.m. The services at Lampasas were conducted by Rev. Rufus
Sprayberry, pastor.
Graduate of Hubbard High School, he later was coach and principal
there. He graduated
from Southwestern University Georgetown in 1928 where he attended on
an athletic scholarship, and after attending the University of
Texas, he received his master's degree at North Texas State
University, Denton in 1938. He was superintendent and coach at Irene
after beginning his teaching career at Bastrop.
He had been superintendent at Lampasas 15 years.
Ballew was an all-round athlete and after completing his college
career played professional baseball, second base, with San Antonio,
Galveston and Waco of the Texas league, and received a trial with
the New York Giants of the National League. He later managed the
Waco Dons, semi-professional baseball club, and was Waco
recreational director. His girls' Basketball teams were outstanding
performers.
During World War II, he was chief specialist in the U.S. Navy and
taught Navy personnel two years at the University of South Carolina.
He was a 32-degree Mason.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Suzanne Ballew, Lampasas, junior in
Baylor University, Waco; mother, Mrs. Pearl Ballew, Emmett; five
sisters, Mrs. F. H. Lawrence and Mrs. J. C. Kornegay, both of Waco;
Mrs. Leslie Price, Montalba; Mrs. J. D. Catfy, Emmett, and Mrs. Ruth
Reed, Corsicana, and other relatives.

Harvey Ballew Is Found Dead Lampasas
Home
Harvey Ballew 58, superintendent of the Lampasas schools for 15
years was found dead at his home Monday night by a physician he had
called that he was ill, according to information from relatives. A
heart attack was blamed for his death. He was alone at home.
Native of Emmett of Emmett, Navarro county, Ballew graduated from
Hubbard High School and then from Southwestern University,
Georgetown where he was an outstanding athlete. He later attended
the University of Texas and North Texas State.
Ballew played professional baseball several years with Galveston and
Waco in the old Class A Texas league about the 1930 and had been a
coach and administrator in schools including being coach and
principal at Hubbard High School.
Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Ballew, Lampasas, junior Baylor
University student; mother, Mrs. Pearl Ballew, Emmett; five sisters,
Mrs. Lucille Caffy, Emmett; Mrs. Lena Ruth Reed, Corsicana; Mrs. Ola
Korsegay and Mrs. Essie Rae Lawrence, both of Waco, and Mrs. Maudie
Price, Montalba, and a number of nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the First
Baptist church of Lampasas with graveside rites Wednesday 3:30 p.m.
at the
Emmett cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Rufus Sprayberry, pastor of the
Lampasas church.

J.T. Spires Of Hillsboro Dies
Funeral services for J. T. Spires. 86, who died at his residence in
Hillsboro Wednesday, were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Marshall
and Marshall chapel in Hillsboro. Burial was in Blooming Grove.
A retired furniture and hardware dealer, Spires was a native of
Russelville, Ala. He came to Texas about 1900 and lived in the Frost
area. He moved to Hillsboro in 1927.
Surviving are his wife of Hillsboro, two daughters, Mrs. Jim
Winters, Hillsboro, and Mrs. C. A. Holmes, Springfield, Mo., and
other relatives.

lifelong resident of Navarro county and a member of First Baptist Church.

Annie Golightly
 Annie
Golightly (Anna Mack Milford Smith) died Tuesday, Feb. 28,
2012 in Corsicana, Texas. Born Sept. 25, 1931 on a cotton
farm in Dial, Texas, to Homer Dale and Mary Milford, Ms.
Golightly was mother to five, grandmother to 16,
great-grandmother to 13 and great-great-grandmother to one.
A champion rodeo rider and 36-year veteran of the
entertainment, and food and beverage business, Ms. Golightly
performed with such greats as Tom T. Hall, Rex Allen,
Rosemary Clooney, Ace Reid and Arthur Duncan. As a recording
artist and performer, she entertained such notables as John
and Nellie Connally, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Chuck Connors,
Nelson Rockefeller and four presidents including the
presidents of Argentina and Panama.
She followed her 1994 graduation from Texas Wesleyan
University, where she earned a bachelor-of-arts degree in
English, with the adventure of a lifetime. At age 64, she
was the only woman on the team of cowboys who drove a large
herd of Longhorn cattle from Fort Worth, Texas to Miles
City, Mont. on the Great American Cattle Drive in 1995.
Ms. Golightly was a well-known song writer, portrait artist
and writer having published works in several magazines and
newspapers including The Fort Worth Star Telegram and the
Dallas Morning News. She also authored two books, Down a
Cotton Row, and Dreams and a White Horse, which is a memoir
of her adventure on the cattle drive. She is a nominee to
The Cowgirl Hall of Fame.
In addition to her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchild, Ms. Golightly is survived by
daughter and son-in-law Lea and Tommy Bennett of Ripley,
Miss.; daughter Lynda Wendy Golightly of Calif.; daughter
and son-in-law Sandy and Grady Manning of Corsicana;
daughter and son-in-law Keely and Dale Robertson of Falkner,
Miss., and son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Margie Smith of
Tyler.
At her insistence, there will be no funeral or formal
memorial service. It was her request that her friends and
family simply remember the great times and happiness they
shared with her.
In hopes that she might be of service even after her death,
she donated her body to science.

L. “Bill” Smith of Corsicana passed away Feb. 13, 2012. A
memorial service will be held at Saint John’s Episcopal
Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Bill was born April 19, 1922, in Danbury, Conn. to William
and Helena Smith. He graduated from Danbury High School in
1938 and went to Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.,
where he was a student athlete playing lacrosse and
basketball. He served in the United States Marine Corps from
1941 to 1945.
Bill spent the next 25 years working in the hat
manufacturing industry in Connecticut, Tennessee and
Pennsylvania, eventually landing in Corsicana in 1967 as
president of Adam Hats. From 1970 until 1973, Bill went back
to college to pursue his passion to become a lawyer. He
graduated from Baylor Law School in 1973, and has been
practicing law in Corsicana for the last 38 years.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; children Tom and Suzan
Smith of Austin; Mattie Lynch of Corsicana; Will and Shelly
Smith of Willow Park, Texas; and Helena and Steve Hoegger of
Scotland, Texas; step-children Kerry Lawson and Paulette
Johnson of Corsicana; grandchildren Stephen Smith, Cassie
Smith, Matthew Lynch, Lindsey Bishop, Dillon Bishop,
Alexandra Powell, Amanda Powell and Aubrey Chancellor; and
great-grandchildren, Norah Lynch, Zane Lynch, Zackary Lynch

of the Calico Ranch in Blooming Grove.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Lynn Sem of Longmont,

Magnolia and three grandchildren, Annalee Faith Cook, Ruby
Sem and Lyra Sem.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lettie Jane Ivy Cook in
2010.

FT. WORTH WOMAN DIED IN DALLAS; IS BURIED HERE
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Conant Beall, of Fort Worth, who
died in a Dallas hospital Sunday, were held Tuesday, with burial in
Oakwood cemetery here.
One service was held in Dallas Tuesday morning and another short
service was held at the cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr.
E. T. Miller, pastor of the First Baptist church, conducted the
rites here.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald Beall, Fort Worth; a son, Ronald
Ayres, Fort Worth; parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Conant, Kilgore; a
sister, Mrs. Chet Everts, Dallas; a brother, R. E. Conant, Grand
Prairie; grandmother, Mrs. Lucy O'Connell, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Mac Beall James Beall, George McGee, W. C. Griffin,
Paul Botts and Jim McGloughlin.

Frost Soldier Is Reported Missing Bataan Fighting
Mr. and Mrs. John Reeves of Frost have been informed by the
War Department that their son, Private Hurshel Reeves, had been
listed as "missing in action in the Philippines." He was with the
American forces on Bataan.
Private Reeves, who is 20 years of age, enlisted in the U. S. Army
May 11, 1941. He is a graduate of the Blooming Grove high school,
receiving his diploma there in
1940.
His parents have resided in the Frost community for the past 21
years.
Other relatives include one sister, Doris Faye Reeves; grandparents,
Mrs. N. J. Reeves, Purdon; and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Derden, Blooming
Grove.

Elbert Dwayne Daniel was born April 21, 1923, in Dew. Dwayne
returned to Freestone County in 1991 after retirement from 37 years
service with General Dynamics in Fort Worth. He was ordained as a
deacon at Ridglea West Baptist Church in 1970. He served as deacon
at Northside Baptist in Corsicana, Cornerstone Baptist in Fairfield,
and First Baptist in Buffalo where he became inactive due to his age
and health in 2004. He passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his
residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Elbert and Thelma
Bradshaw Daniel; and brother, Doyle Daniel.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Rash Daniel; children,
Barbara Soule of Itasca, Linda Denton of Dew, and Joe and Pam Daniel
of Lexington; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and nephews, in-laws and many wonderful friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Griffin-Roughton
Chapel in Fairfield with Brother Ed Ridge officiating. Interment

FROST, Oct. 10 – (Spl) – Roland M. Harrison, 77, retired farmer,
died of a heart attack here Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the post
office. He had resided in the Frost, Raleigh and Emmett communities
for the past 30 years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon from the First
Methodist church with burial in the
Frost cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Harold Thompson, pastor,
assisted by Rev. C. C. Ellis, pastor of the Frost Baptist church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lettie Mae Harrison, frost; a daughter,

Weldon Lee Eaton was born July 10, 1935, in Roane to Mable Leona and
Orville Pannill Eaton. Weldon died July 21, 2010, as the result of
an automobile accident near Green River, Utah. Weldon received a
bachelor’s degree from Austin College and a master’s degree from
Prairie View A&M. Weldon worked as an athletic trainer, teacher, and
administrator in the North Forest I.S.D. He then worked at Region IV
ESC until retirement in 1992.
Weldon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna Eaton; his son and
daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Eaton; his grandson, Joseph Eaton;
brothers, Glen and his wife Jane, and Nathan and his wife Doris
Jean; sisters, Ama Jo and husband Bob Cain, and Barbara Arnett;
along with many nieces and nephews.
He was a Trustee of the Waller United Methodist Church, a member of
the Waller Volunteer Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Austin
College Athletic Hall of Honor, the Texas Marble Collectors’ Club
and the West Virginia Marble Collectors’ Club.
Visitation will be at the Waller United Methodist Church, Waller,
Texas, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28.
A memorial celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July
29, at Canon Funeral Home in Waller.
Internment will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at
Oak Grove Cemetery in

James Crockett "Jim" Orchard, 95, died Sept. 15, 2010, in
Longview, Texas.
Jim was born on Oct. 23, 1914, in Gonzales, to John and Ida Hedges
Orchard. He married Claudine Auerbach on Nov. 10, 1938, in Houston.
They had two sons and were married for 71 years. Jim served in the
U.S. Army Signal Corps in World War II, in New Guinea and the
Philippines. After the war Jim, Claudine, and their sons lived in
Alamo, Texas; Wasco, Calif.; and Longview, Texas. Jim and Claudine
moved to Corsicana in 1973, where they spent most of their
retirement before moving back to Longview in recent years. Jim was a
loving, loyal, and supportive son, brother, husband, in-law, father,
grandfather, and great grandfather.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Claudine;
brother, Malcolm; three sisters, Neloise Cooper, Nina Carpenter, and
Ellsworth Head; and a grandson, Adam Orchard.
Survivors include his sister, Ruth Key of McAllen; sons and
daughters-in-law, Jim and Eunice Orchard of Houston, and Don and
Annette Orchard of Longview; seven grandchildren, Alison Orchard,
Amy Corron, Charles Orchard, Deanna Simmons, Mike Orchard, Cynthia
Orchard, and David Orchard; he is also survived by four great
grandchildren, Camryn Corron, Rachael Simmons, Kristen Orchard, and
Kyle Orchard.
Services will be held at the
Oak Grove Cemetery in
Kerens at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Rebecca Bowden McCabe, age 62, of Dallas passed away Sunday, Feb.
14, 2010, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. She was
born Aug. 28, 1947, in Dallas to Bill and Martha Bowden of
Corsicana. On Dec. 27, 1967, she married James McCabe in Dallas. She
earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education
from SMU and taught for 10 years in the Dallas and Garland school
districts.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James; daughter,
Allison; son, Mark; granddaughter, Elizabeth; son-in-law, Maurizio;
and cousins, George Leonard, James Breithaupt of Corsicana and
Claudia Childress.
Charming wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, cheerful
mother-in-law, inspiring friend, and dedicated teacher, above all
Rebecca was the rock of her family, in loving dedication to her
husband, daughter, son and, earlier in life, her parents. She
readily responded to life’s challenges and gave extra effort to her
children’s education as well as club officer obligations.
Rebecca enjoyed life even in difficult times and always set an
example in her household. Searching for a cure to her cancer, she
traveled the states and Europe, and while not finding one, she had
the joy to see one of these trips generating the encounter of her
daughter and future son-in-law. The last person Rebecca embraced was
her sole, 2-month-old granddaughter.
Rebecca was a member of Northway Christian Church, Dallas Museum of
Art, Dallas Historical Society, International Society, Knife and
Fork Club, Les Femmes, and Dallas Symphony Orchestra League. She was
a constant and enthusiastic supporter of the Smile Train and SPCA.
In her lifetime, she saved the lives of many orphaned cats.
A memorial service will be held graveside at Sparkman Hillcrest at 4
p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18. As per her desire, she will be cremated and
some of the ashes will be laid to rest at Sparkman Hillcrest
Cemetery with her parents, at
Oakwood Cemetery in
Corsicana with her grandparents, and in the home where she grew up
in Dallas.

May 12, 1921 - Feb 7, 2010
Jean Gary passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Feb.
7, 2010, in Rockwall, after a long period of declining health due to
Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years,
C.L. “Doc” Gary Jr., MD; and son, Charlie Gary.
Born on May 12, 1921, in Kenedy, Texas, Jean moved to Livingston,
Mont., at the age of 9 and lived there for five years. She then
returned to Kenedy and was always proud of the fact that she
graduated valedictorian of her senior class. After a whirlwind
courtship of six years, in September 1942 she married Doc, who had
been salutatorian of that same class. Upon completion of Doc’s time
in the service, they moved back to Texas, settling in Corsicana in
1949.
While raising her children, Jean was an active volunteer with many
local organizations. She was charter member and the first president
of the Navarro County Medical Society Auxiliary, served on the
Twilight Home Board of Directors, worked with the local blood bank
and was involved with other local charities.
As a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Corsicana, Jean
taught Sunday school to children, youth and senior adults. While she
always loved children, she had a special bond with mothers who had
multiple boys and was always willing to offer empathy and advice.
She touched the hearts of many people and was always there to help
when needed.
She is survived by children, Sylvia McMahon and husband Jerry, Joe
Gary, and Bob Gary and wife Jeannie; grandchildren, John McMahon,
Amy Key and husband Bryan, and Parker Marie Gary;
great-grandchildren, Payton, Preston and Piper McMahon and Ethan and
Bryce Key.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 12, at
Corley Funeral Home followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service at
Oakwood Cemetery with
the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating.

 Marvin Earl Townley, born March 15, 1938, to Juanita and Richard
Townley went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, after a
long illness. Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Griffin-Roughton
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Chad Owens officiating. Interment
followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnathan Fowler, Jeremy Rash, Danny Townley Jr.,
Jagger Glenn, Carl White and James Stewart. Honorary pallbearers
were men of Unity Baptist Church.
Marvin was retired but kept up a very active lifestyle of other work
that he liked to do, and his beloved church. He loved to sing and
traveled to other churches, nursing homes and other locations with
the Unity Heirs singing group, singing gospel music.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Frances
Carpenter Townley of Corsicana; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and
Carl White of Corsicana; sons, Danny Townley of Corsicana and Larry
Townley and wife Shannon of Pasadena; daughter, Tanya Stewart and
husband James of Corsicana; grandchildren, Amanda Townley and
husband Patrick, Christina Gutierrez and husband Robert, Danny
Townley Jr. and wife Velma, Terrica Rash and husband Jeremy, Chelsea
Townley, Jade Glenn, Jagger Glenn, Hunter Townley, Krystal Gaitan
and Stephanie Stewart; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clarcie
Valentine and Mattie Gallegos and husband Raymond; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Townley; father,
Richard Townley; brothers, R.D. Townley and Richard Townley Jr.;
niece, Melody Winters; and granddaughter, Crystal Fowler.

(Kelso) Fuller
Apr 27, 1914 – Mar 9, 2010
 Lake Fuller, resident of Rowlett and formerly of Corsicana, passed
away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Rowlett at the age of 95. She was
born in Crisp on April 27, 1914, to John Kelso and Mattie Huddleston
Kelso.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Fuller in 1987; two
daughters, Pat Read and Verta Wagner; one son, Troy Allen Fuller;
and two grandsons, Steve Wagner and Mike Adkins.
Survivors include her son, Don Fuller and wife Darlene of Rowlett;
daughters, Nettie Adkins of Dallas and Shirley Barnes and husband
Elwood of Corsicana; 14 grandchildren and lots of
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Griffin-Roughton
Funeral Home. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Friday, March 12, at
Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Don Fuller officiating and interment to
follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
