Lieut. James V. Carpenter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Carpenter, of Powell, Texas. Born in Navarro County, Texas,
September 30, 1888, receiving his early education from the rural schools. Later went to business college at Waco, Texas. Entered the service August 25, 1917, training at Camp Stanley Officers' Training Camp, but, by request, was transferred to the Aviation Corps at Fort Sill, where he served as personnel
officer. Received his commission as First Lieutenant in November, 1918. He continued in the service until April 12, 1919, when he received his discharge. His home is Powell, Texas, Route 1. History of Texas World War Heroes - World War 1
