Brandon L. Sims
Marine Corps Pfc. Brandon L. Sims, son of
Joyce A. and David L. Sims of Corsicana, recently completed 12 weeks
of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, designed
to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Sims
is a
2003 graduate of Corsicana High School. - 12/28/2003 Corsicana

Farquhard Rice Smith
Sep 23, 1838 - Sep 14, 1909 "Born to John Campbell
Smith and Elizabeth Campbell of "Oak Grove" plantation, Averasboro,
Harnett, N.C. He lived there thru the 1860 Census.
F.R .enlisted in Company D, North Carolina 3rd Cavalry Regiment on
05 Mar 1862(The Highland Rangers of Harnett Co.)He was at Appomattox
04 Apr 1865, wounded in the battle, before General Lee's surrender.
He left for Texas after the war, and by 1870 was farming by himself
in Navarro Co.
At age 32, on Jun 11, 1871, he married Sarah Corrine "Sallie" Scales
in Corsicana, Texas. In 1880 F.R., Sallie and their children were
living next door to Sgt. James Martin Scales and Ruth Searcy Scales,
parents of Sallie Corinne. In 1909 he died, and in 1913 Sallie C.
received his Confederate Pension."
He was like a lot of 2nd and 3rd sons, in that his older brother
inherited what was left of the Averasboro plantation, so F. R moved
to Texas and farmed in the Dresden area.
