James Henry Hook
Jan 3, 1872- Jun 15, 1944

J. H. HOOK DIED THURSDAY MORNING; RITES ON FRIDAY

J. H. Hook, age 72 years, died at his home here at 5:30 Thursday morning, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock from the Sutherland-McCammon Chapel with Dr. Matthew Arnold conducting the rites. Burial will be in
Oakwood cemetery.

A native of Huntsville, Ala., he came to Texas in 1889 and landed at Galveston. He later moved to Denison where he was superintendent of the Denison Cotton Mills. He served as superintendent of the Sherman Manufacturing Co. for several years before coming to Corsicana, where he was superintendent of the Cotton Mills since 1920.

In addition to his business connections, he was active in civic and church work. He was an elder in the Third Avenue Presbyterian church, and was president of a Sunday school class before being forced to retire sometime ago due to ill health. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club.

Surviving are his wife, Corsicana; three daughters, Mrs. King Elliott, Corsicana; Mrs. B. S. Teas, Houston; Mrs. Roger Q. Small, Austin; a son, Don L. Hook, Austin, and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be W. Ray Coffey, J. P. Thompson, E. C. Sears, Ed Black, West; Otto Smith, Gray Edminston, Denison; J. O. Wilson, Sherman, and J. S. Murchison.

FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR J. H. HOOK

Funeral services for J. H. Hook, age 72 years, who died at his home here early Thursday morning, were planned for 5 o’clock Friday afternoon from the Sutherland-McCammon Chapel with Dr. Matthew Arnold conducting the rites. Burial will be in
Oakwood Cemetery.

A resident of Corsicana over 40 years he was prominently identified with the business, social and church affairs of the city.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, a son and other relatives.

James Henry Hook (Jan. 3, 1872 - Jun 15, 1944) who was my great-grandfather.  He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana with his second wife, Sarah McHale Hook.
