Sgt. Efelbert K. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Smith, of Frost, Texas, was born in Benton County, Mississippi, June 22, 1890, and received his early education in the rural public schools, finishing in the Frost high school.  On September 23, 1917, he entered the service first with the engineers but was later transferred to Wagon Company 303, A. E. F., unassigned.  He was trained at Camp Travis and Camp Johnston.  September 1, 1918, was sent overseas to France and connected with the Quartermaster's Corp, stationed at Brest and Jussey, France.
