Gracie Lynn (Jordan) Ralston

Gracie Lynn Ralston, 69, of Blooming Grove passed away Friday, March 1, 2002 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Blooming Grove.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blooming Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Art Allen and Rev. Marvin Moore officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. Sardis Cemetery in Ellis County.

Pallbearers will be Gene Allen McLain, Carroll Boswell, Stuart Marshall, Sherman Putman, Alfi Scherer, R. B. Wallis, Tim Golden and Shane Hill.

Mrs. Ralston was born Dec. 28, 1932 in Southton, Texas to Jessie Jordan and Birdie Carter Jordan. She worked at First State Bank of Blooming Grove for many years, where she served on the board of directors. She also served on the city council and was a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ralston; parents; brother, Jack Jordan; and sisters, Myrtle Herod and Jessie Hicks.

Survivors include her daughters, Terry Golden and husband Phil of Blooming Grove, Robin Ralston of Hillsboro, Mona Barlow and husband Greg of Chatfield; grandchildren, Jennifer and Derrick Dickerson, Jeff and Ashley Golden, and Jordan Golden, all of Blooming Grove, Hagen and Reese Barlow of Chatfield; great-grandchild, Logan Golden of Blooming Grove; brothers, Charley Jordan of Vandalia, Ohio and Hugh Jordan of Pilot Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and special friends.

Juan W. McManus, 81, of Kerens passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Bro. Harold Scott and Bro. Wes Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dan McManus, Scott McManus, Larry Averitt, Dwight Farmer, Dennis Acord and Tommy Green.

Mr. McManus was born Oct. 25, 1920 to James David and Audie Perry McManus. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a former resident of Retreat.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McManus.

Mr. McManus is survived by his son Billy McManus and wife Linda of Kerens; grandchildren Scott and Christina McManus of Mabank and Lori McManus; great-grandchildren Peyton Lindsey, Tanner Lindsey and Grant McManus; brother Doyle D. McManus and wife May of Pasadena; brother-in-law Thomas N. Davis of Corsicana; sister-in-laws Bobbie Durden of Rice, Marie Davis of Corsicana, Virgie Watkins of Emhouse, Doris Norman of Corsicana, Joyce Grucholski of Corsicana and Maudie Wilson of Houston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mable L. Russell, 96, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 1, 2002 in Malakoff.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Paul Porter and Rev. Jim Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Dresden Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Dawson, Wayne McCreary, Joe Reed, Jerry Reed, John David Johnston and Wayne Massengale.

Mrs. Russell was born May 11, 1905 in Kelm, Texas. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. M. (Judge) Russell, brothers Marshall Massengale and Roy Massengale and sisters Lois Gillen, Viola McGraw, Ethel Stover and Clara Williams.

Mrs. Mable is survived by daughter  Billie Jo Ragsdale and husband James of Mabank; sister Nannie Placker of Corsicana; grandsons J. Douglas Ragsdale and wife Janet of Cedar Creek and David L. Ragsdale and wife Loretta of Englewood, Colo.; great-great grandsons Zachary and Matthew Sanders of Arlington; great-granddaughters Rachel Ragsdale of Englewood, Colo., Jennifer Ratcliff of Longview and Jessica Sanders of Arlington; great-grandsons Joel Ragsdale of Englewood, Colo. and Bo Bryson of Longview; great-great granddaughter Jaqi Bryson of Longview; sister-in-law Lenna Dale Massengale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

M. J. Kuykendall

M. J. Kuykendall, 88, of Hubbard passed away Friday, March 1, 2002 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wade Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Lee and Rev. Luther Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Pallbearers will be Mike Kuykendall, Chris Kuykendall, John Kuykendall, Jeffrey Kuykendall, Jamie Ryman and Donald Chasteen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Lowe, Sam McClendon and Jimmy Helton.

Mr. Kuykendall was born Oct. 14, 1913 in Godley. He had lived in Hubbard since 1951 and prior to that had resided in West and Hillsboro. He was retired from Lone Star Gas Company, where he had been a sub-district manager. He was a member of the Hubbard Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and a member of the Hubbard Lions Club. He was a former Hubbard fire chief.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Kuykendall; parents; brothers Charles Kuykendall, Jr., Wilson Kuykendall, Douglas Kuykendall and Gene Kuykendall.

Mr. Kuykendall is survived by sons Herb Kuykendall and wife Kay of Mount Calm and Glenn Kuykendall and wife Nancy of Hubbard; sisters Gladys Ferguson of Hillsboro and Maxine Lewis and Whitney; grandchildren Mike Kuykendall and wife Claudette of Kingswood, Chris Kuykendall and wife Lori of Rosharon, Karen Ryman and husband Jamie of Houston, Angie Kuykendall of Waco, John Kuykendall and wife Tenia of San Diego and Jeffrey Kuykendall of Bryan; great-grandchildren Chase Kuykendall and wife Courtney of Kingswood and Robert Cole Kuykendall of Rosharon; and nine nephews and six nieces.

Elvera Eileen "Vera" Smith, 78, of Blooming Grove passed away quietly Monday, March 4, 2002 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Griffin-Roughton Chapel in Blooming Grove with the Rev. Mickey Loftis officiating. Interment will be held at Glenallen, Alaska.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 21, 1923 in Duluth, Minn., the 11th child of Swedish immigrant parents Otto Haglund and Emma M. Beck Haglund. The family was involved in farming and logging daily operations. These interests remained with Mrs. Smith her entire life.

She graduated from Carlton High School and began her adult life traveling and working across the United States, only to return to her home in Minnesota where she met J. Carl Smith, a native Texan. They married and traveled across the United States many times as they followed Mr. Smith's trade as a pipeline welder, always returning home after the job to Blooming Grove.

The family moved to Alaska in 1976 where a tragic accident with a truck driver stole the life of their teen son and put Mrs. Smith on a 25-year medical journey. Her love of life was strong, and her faith carried her forward. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, she kept busy with school, 4-H and community activities in Navarro County.

She was preceded in death by her son, Cory Carl Smith; parents, four brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Carl Smith of Blooming Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and Terry L. Loftis of Corsicana; son, Kelly J. Smith of Blooming Grove; grandson, Cory L. Loftis of Huntington Beach, Calif.; granddaughter, Erica T. Loftis of Lewiston, Maine; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Margaret Olivia Bolger, 76, of Corsicana passed away Monday, March 4, 2002 in Corsicana.

No services are planned. Interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Queens, N.Y.

She was born April 20, 1925 in New York, N.Y. to John Bolger and Mae O'Donnell Bolger. She sold life insurance for many years.

Survivors include her brother, John F. Bolger of Flushing, N.Y.; and sisters, Anna R. Holt of Kerens and Mary Spruill of Dallas.

Mr. Cates was born June 28, 1934 in Corsicana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Delmer and Willie Crow Cates; and sister, Billie Wren.

She was born Nov. 23, 1928 in Sandy.

CORSICANA — Alice Marie Smith, 73, of Corsicana, a retired nurse for Medical Center Hospital, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at her residence.

Marie A. (Carruthers) Humphrey

Marie A. Carruthers Humphrey of Virginia passed away Feb. 23, 2002 at Sentara Nursing Center in Chesapeake, Va.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Pelham with the Rev. W. L. "Tim" Timmons officiating. Interment will follow at Pelham Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be men of the church.

Mrs. Humphrey was born in Pelham. She was a former member of Brown Chapel AME Church in Pelham. After moving to San Antonio, she united with Emmanuel AME Church. In 1996 she moved to Virginia and lived with her oldest son.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. J. W. and Daisy Guess Carruthers; and sisters, Esburne Oleta Holloway and Dorothy Mae Hall.

Survivors include her sons, Larry J. Humphrey Sr. and wife Thelma of Chesapeake, Va., Titus L. Humphrey and wife Sandra of Pacific Grove, Calif., and John Wesley Humphrey of San Antonio; grandsons, Larry J. Humphrey Jr. and wife Teresa of Springdale, Md. and SSG Stephen E. Mr. Melton was born Feb. 25, 1938 in Garland, Ark. to Earnest Lee Melton and Jesse Mae Ferguson Melton. He worked for the City of Corsicana.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Melton and Lewis Melton; and sister, Irene Melton.

Maude Catherine Bowden Cameron, 89, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Blake Cameron, Bobby Clark, Bill Campbell and Wayne Clark.

Mrs. Cameron was born Sept. 6, 1912 in Tupelo to Willie Miller "Wid" Bowden and Florence Sheets. She married William Dudley Cameron Jan. 17, 1934 in Corsicana's First Baptist Church chapel. She and her husband were the owners/operators of Cameron Hardware in Texas City and then moved to Indian Lake near Smithville before finally moving back to Corsicana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dudley Cameron; and brother, Bill Bowden.

Survivors include her sons, M.D. "Dave" Cameron of Wortham and T.D. "Tom" Cameron of Bremerton, Wash.; sister, Faye Laws of Big Canoe, Ga.; grandson, Michael Blake Cameron of Marietta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Arthur E. Busby of Houston; sisters-in-law, Mrs. W.R. Cameron of Corsicana and Joyce Bowden Kyles of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews including nieces and their husbands Beverly and Ronald Orr of Hillsboro, Norma Bowden and Bill Campbell of Denton, and Helen Bowden and Bobby Jackson of Libertyville, Ill.

William Houston Hawkins

William Houston Hawkins, 76, of Kerens passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at his residence.

Services will be at a time to be determined Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church in Kerens with Rev. Samuel Washington officiating. Interment will follow at Samaria Cemetery.

Mr. Hawkins was born March 15, 1925 in Kerens. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 29 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by son Randy Kelley of Kerens; sisters Hulena Green of Houston and Ruth Burks of Kerens; nephews Rev. Jodie Holmes and Alan C. Burks, both of Detroit, Mich., and Bobby Lee Green of Houston; dear friend Katherine Thomas of Kerens; special cousin Jimmie Nell Hornbuckle of Kerens; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Mavinne Corkern

CORKERN, MAVINNE.  Born January 13, 1927 in Kerens, TX.; passed away February 24, 2002 in Garland, TX.  Mavinee Corkern was a self-giving person, always putting others before herself in every instance, whether it be at school, at church, or at home.  In 1947 after graduating from Bayor University, Receiving a B.A. degree with a major in education and minors in English and Psychology, she taught elementary school in south-east Texas-Orange, South-park & vidor.  In 1962, she moved to Richardson and taught third grade until she retired in 1981.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas from 1974 until her death.  There she worked in the pre-school and children's ministries.  She also contributed living quarters for several Criswell College students.  Survived by nieces, Judy Gould, Jackie Sewell & Marsha Waldon; nephews, Mark McFarlane, Robert Landress & Michael McFarlane; 3 great nieces and 7 great nephews.  Preceded in death by father and mother, Rev. Willis Austin Corkern and Edna Ethredge Corkern; sisters, Evelyn Corkern Landress and Billie Corkern McFarlane; brother-in-law, C. H. Mrs. Spencer was born Dec. 15, 1906 in Kerens. She was a sales clerk. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church and 50-plus-year member of the Eastern Star. She was a very loving aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Spencer.

Mrs. Spencer is survived by brother C. M. Barron of Corsicana; sisters Lorene Daniels of Corsicana and Faye Denson of San Antonio; sister-in-law Carrie Spencer of Texas City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha Jo Donaldson, 64, of Waxahachie passed away Friday, March 8, 2002 at her residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Frost Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Otts officiating.

She was born Feb. 17, 1938 in Hill County to Henry and Nettie (Mandrell) Perkins. She was an educator, working with learning-impaired people. She was of the Pentecostal Church of God faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Otts and husband Joel of Waxahachie; brothers, Jerald Perkins of Killeen, Lonnie Perkins of DeSoto, Leonard Perkins of Purdon, George Perkins of Hillsboro and Olin Perkins of Hubbard; sisters, Louise Pohl and Gail Christie, both of Corsicana; grandson, Christopher Wright and wife of Waxahachie; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Drew and Faith Wright, all of Waxahachie.

Jackie French, 64, of Dawson passed away Friday, March 8, 2002 in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wade Funeral Chapel with Rev. G. W. French and Rev. Charles Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Brushie Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. French was born Oct. 7, 1937 in Brushie Prairie. He lived in Ellis County for 35 years where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the county's road and bridge department. He was a life member of the Dawson Saddle Club and a member of the Navarro Mills Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Couch French of Dawson; son Jimmy J. French, Jr. of Waxahachie; grandchildren Tachˇ Reanicˇ French of Dawson, Brittany Leigh French of Waxahachie and Taryn Nicole and J. J. "Skipper' French III of Waxahachie; brothers S.T. French and Victor French, both of Dawson; sister Myrtle Whitener of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mellon "Bud" Baird, President and CEO of Titan Systems Corporation, died on March 5, 2002. He was 71. A native of Corsicana, Texas, Mr. Baird received a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Physics in 1957, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from North Texas State University. A veteran of the Korean War and U.S. Navy, Mr. Baird began his career with Varo, Inc., based in Garland Texas in 1957, and culminated it with over 40 years of defense and aircraft industry experience that contributed greatly to the national security of the United States. Until 1982 when Mr. Baird joined the Eaton Corporation, he was corporate senior vice president for Sanders Associates (now Lockheed Martin-Sanders). After serving as president of the Eaton Corporations, defense and electronics group, Mr. Baird became chief executive officer and president of TRACOR, Inc. in 1986. He went on to become the chairman and chief executive officer of Delfin Systems from 1990 to 1998, until the company merged with the Titan Corporation in 1998. Mr. Baird was a member of the board of directors for the Hawker Pacific Aerospace, EDO, and Software Spectrum Corporations. Mr. Baird was a former trustee of National Defense Industrial Association and a member of a number of other industry associations. Married for 45 years to Mary Beth Norman, they lived most of their lives in Austin, Texas. In addition to his wife, Mr. Baird is survived by two brothers, William and Phillip Baird and a sister, Janilyn Tesar. Bud Baird's dedication and enthusiasm were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him, as well as the pleasure of working with him. Sunday Services For Mrs. Tackett

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Mae Tackett, 75, native of Navarro county, who died at her home at Velasco Friday, were held from the Corley Chapel Sunday at 1 p.m.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Jack Goff, pastor of the West Side Baptist church. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. L. B. Gortman, Velasco; Mrs. Travis Dudley, Houston; Mrs. D. W. Hales, Pasadena, and Mrs. Lance Hales, Idalou; two sons, Wilmer Tackett, Houston, and other relatives.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Anthony Mick Inman was born in Spring Hill on March 11, 1919, to Anthony and Enza Henderson. He passed away at his home in Kemp on March 8, 2002. Mr. Inman was raised in Dallas and San Antonio and lived most of his life in Dallas before moving to Kemp four years ago. Mr. Inman is survived by his son, Tony Inman of Kemp; daughter, Mickie Hooten and her husband, Marvin of Kemp; grandchildren, Bill and Rhonda Hooten, Tony and Joni Hotten and Sam Inman; great-grandchildren, Dana and Nicole Hooten, Brian and Bret Hooten and nieces, nephews and other relatives. Graveside services were held Monday, March 11, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

ITALY – Funeral services for Pet Daniels, 63 of Italy, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 in the chapel of Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
Born Dec. 1, 1938 in Stonewall, Okla., the son of Fred Albert and Velma Daniels, he passed away Jan. 30, 2002 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years Frances Daniels of Italy; three sons Terry Daniels of Nevada, David Daniels of California and Scott Daniels; two daughters Debbie Thompson and Shelly Wright both of California; two step-sons Roger Mahoney of Blooming Grove and Curtis Mahoney of Barry; step-daughter Darla Mahoney of Red Oak; brothers and sisters Emma Lee Lewis and Trilla Eller both of California, Annie Fraga of Kansas, Benny Daniels and Johnny Daniels both of California, Jeanie Webb of Arkansas, Sharon Everett, Randy Daniels, Carol Weitnauer and Donald Daniels all of California; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Interment followed in the Italy Cemetery under the direction of Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home in Waxahachie.

Lisa Jean Cook Goss, 38, of Quinlan passed away Saturday, March 9, 2002 in Quinlan.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Baptist Church in Quinlan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paschal Funeral Chapel in Kerens. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery in Bazette.

Mrs. Goss was born July 20, 1963 in Kerens. She was a supervisor at a mail-order pharmaceutical company, Advance PCS in Richardson.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Onis and Aliene Cook and Loyd Colvin; and an uncle, Dickie Robertson.

Mrs. Goss is survived by her husband, Randy Goss; daughter, Lori Nicole Goss; and son, Bryan Cole Goss, all of Quinlan; parents, Bill and Sammye Cook; twin sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Johnny Hobbs; brother and sister-in-law, Loyd and Joanne Cook, all of Kerens; mother-in-law, Minerva Goss of Quinlan; sister-in-law, Sandy Higgins of Wills Point; nephews, Sammy, Stephen, and Christopher Hobbs, all of Kerens, Bobby and wife Johnna Boucher of Rising Star, Billy and wife Jessie of Connecticut, Vince and Michael Higgins of Wills Point; niece, Carla Cook; aunt, Latricia DeMoss and husband James; and uncles, Roy Loyd Colvin and Keith Colvin and wife Teresa, all of Kerens; and a host of cousins, family, and loving friends.

Robert Wayne Woodard, 46, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mr. Woodard was born June 13, 1955 in Fort Worth. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1975. He was kind, soft-spoken, had a smile for everyone and could make you laugh with his silly jokes. He loved spending many of his childhood summers at the farm of his grandparents Buster and Claudie Woodard of Corsicana. He was a special uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. He will be missed and thought of for many years to come.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Chastity Hope Woodard; and father, William Odell Woodard.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Jeanette Woodard of Gainesville; brother, Dr. Larry Woodard and wife Carol of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Sylvia Lee Wilson and husband John Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kathy Bowman and husband Dr. Mitchell Bowman of Southlake; nephews, Cameron Bowman of Southlake and William John Wilson and Dylan Wilson, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nieces Michelle Foy and Somer Bowman, both of Norman, Okla.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
