John William Boone John William Boone, 74, of Hubbard passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2001 at his residence. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Saint Alban's Episcopal Church of Hubbard with Father Ronald Baker officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Boone was born Nov. 26, 1927 in Hubbard. He lived most of his life there, but did spend several years in California. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Boone was a life member of Hubbard VFD Post No. 9849, West VFW Post No. 4819, and American Legion Post No. 569. He was very interested in the City of Hubbard and its affairs. He was a retired farmer and rancher and was a member of a pioneer Hubbard family. Mr. Boone is a member of Saint Alban's Episcopal Church. Mr. Boone is survived by a brother, Guy Daniel of Hubbard and Valley Mills; four sisters, Christine Boone and Barbara Jean McCarthy, both of Broomfield, Colo., Joanne Hobson of Westminster, Colo., and Barbara Ann Boone of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews. James Milam Finley Sr. Services for James M. Finley Sr., 91, of Trinidad were held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in First United Methodist Church, Trinidad, with the Rev. Elizabeth Bear officiating. Burial was in Trinidad Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens. Mr. Finley died Feb. 19 in Corsicana hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1910, in Frankston to the late Robert Lee and Anna Morris Finley. He had resided in Trinidad 42 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Trinidad. He was employed 17 years with Vickery and Company Wholesale Flooring in Houston, retiring in 1968 as Vice President. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth Finley in 1983, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a son, James M. Finley Jr. of Dallas; daughter, Margaret Ann Green of Trinidad; brother, Robert Finley of Gainesville; grandson, Stephen Blake Burkhalter and his wife, Amanda, of Trinidad; great-grandson, Dalton Reade Burkhalter. Victor Truman Lewis Victor Truman Lewis passed away Monday, Feb. 18, at his long-time home in Malakoff at the age of 87. He was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Cross Roads and grew up in the Order of Odd Fellows children's home in Corsicana. He graduated from East Texas State College in Commerce with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a Master's Degree in history. He was a Lieutenant (air navigator) in the U.S. Navy during World War II flying in PBY and PBM patrol aircraft over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. He retired in 1974 as head of the History Department at Henderson County Junior College where he was also a former football coach. In his "retired" years, he found time to write the book "Domino Games," was an avid golfer, worked to establish the Henderson County Junior College ex-student's foundation, was a world traveler, and actively persued cattle ranching. In addition, he was a founding member of the national Zane Grey Society. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Tyndall and Maggie Gardner Lewis, brothers Ray Anders, Carl, Grady, Lloyd, and Clyde Lewis, and sisters Era Smith, Oma harder, Mary Williams, Opal Robertson and Grace Fenner. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Fay Riddlesperger Lewis, son Don Lewis and daughters and son-in-laws Vicki and Art Simon of League City and Ralinda and Wayne White of Mabank; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff, and funeral services will be held at the Malakoff Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, with internment to follow at the Malakoff City Cemetery. Dewar 3/4/2002 Corsicana man dies in one-vehicle rollover From Staff Reports A Corsicana man died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover early Sunday morning on Interstate 45 south of town. The 1998 Ford Explorer Jeffrey J. Dewar, 42, was driving flipped about 1:20 a.m. at the 222 milepost, according to Texas Department of Public Safety reports. Dewar was ejected from the vehicle, and a witness said he observed an unknown dark colored pickup strike the body in the roadway, the report said. Trooper Dane Baker investigated the accident, with help from troopers John Cabano and James Pamplin, and the Corsicana Police Department, Angus Volunteer Fire Department and Corsicana Emergency Corps. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wanda Hartley held the inquest into the death. The roadway was dry and weather conditions were clear, cold but very windy, according to the report. The DPS said the vehicle was traveling southbound when it drove off the roadway to the right, started to skid sideways and across both southbound lanes of travel. The Explorer flipped onto the passenger side and into the center median. It continued to flip several times, entering the northbound lane, and came to a rest after Dewar was ejected, according to the report. ----------- Jeffery J. Dewar Jeffery J. Dewar, 42, of Corsicana and formerly of Tunkhannock, Pa., passed away Sunday, March 3, 2002 in Navarro County. Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock, Pa. Mr. Dewar was born Dec. 24, 1959 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to Harry B. Dewar and Helen Lundy Dewar. He was a project engineer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Heath for 26 years, where he was part of the "Wild Bunch."
