Arlon George Simmons

Arlon G. Simmons, 88, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Paschal Funeral Home chapel with Dr. David Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Kerens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Simmons, Warren Simmons, Donald Simmons, Dick Stewart, Don Fox and James Vineyard. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Douglas, Billy Hargrove, Ellis Montgomery, James Joolen and Jerry Blackman. Mr. Simmons was born Feb. 19, 1912 in Kerens and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Kerens First Baptist Church. He was county commissioner from 1959 to 1975 and was responsible for the county obtaining the right of way on Highway 31 from the Trinity River to Hill County line. Mr. Simmons was president of the North and East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association from 1970-71. He served on the executive board of the North Central Council of Governments from 1973-74 and worked for the State Approval Agency for Veterans Education. Mr. Simmons also worked for Amoco Oil for about three years. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Laverne Simmons of Corsicana; daughter, Donna K. Simmons of Mexia; brother, Leon Simmons of Richardson; sister-in-law, Mary R. Simmons of Tyler; brother-in-law and wife, Arlie and Johnnie Vineyard of Howe; six nephews, Larry, Warren and Donald Simmons, all of Tyler, James Walthall of Dallas, Kenneth Walthall of Arlington and Ronnie Simmons of California; and three nieces, Sandra Fox of Fort Worth, Jimmie Nell Stewart of Mesquite and Tina Simmons of Richardson.

Willie Ruth (Goodman) Thompson

Mrs. Thompson

Services for Mrs. Willie Ruth (Tot) Thompson, 38, were held Monday afternoon in Corley Chapel with interment in Dresden Cemetery.  The Revs. William Noland and Jack Goff officiated.

Mrs. Thompson, who died Saturday, was a native of Navarro Mills and a long time resident of Purdon.  She was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Wayland Thompson and two sons, Marcus Lynn and Leslie Wayland, all of Purdon; a sister, Mrs. Louise Freeze of Dallas; three brothers, A. R. Goodman of Corsicana and N. J. and Olan Goodman of Stamford.

Pallbearers were Layton Vaughn, J. L. Curtis, L. C. Daniel, John A. Pilghrim, A. R. Matthews and Lyndon McCollouch.

Bennie Ray Green, 54, of Frost, died May 16, 1992, at his residence. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Blooming Grove, with the Rev. Dale Rose officiating. Burial will be at the Frost Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Nelda Green of Frost; one son Dale Ryan Green of Frost; two daughters, Stephanie Zaborowski of San Marcos, and Annessa Green of Keller; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Green of Frost; two brothers, Ted Green of Frost, and Jimmy Green of McAllen; and one sister, Sandra Hiler of Trinidad. Pallbearers will be Charles Dortch, Jack Dortch, Roy Downey, Kenneth Reed, Doyle Staggs and Jimmy Mitchell.

Frank Davis Utsey, 82, of Teague, died Wednesday, July 1, 1992, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.

Services will be 2 pm Friday at Ricks Funeral Home Chapel.  The Revs. Royce Sanders and W. T. Brown will officiate.  Burial will be in Driver Cemetery in Freestone County.

He was born July 22, 1909, in Navarro County and was a life-long resident of Teague.  He was a self-employed businessman for many years and served as constable of Freestone County for 16 years, beginning in 1957.  He was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annie Le Utsey, and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Utsey of Teague; two daughters, Jessie Martin of Teague and Gladys White of Buffalo; one brother, Jim Utsey of Teague; one son-in-law, Roger White of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.


Nelda Ruth (Hamiter) Green

Nelda Ruth Green, 67, of Frost, died June 11, 1993 at her residence.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Frost with Dale Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Frost Cemetery

Survivors include her husband, Truitt Green of Frost; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Wilson Tatum of Arusha Tanzania, East Africa; two brothers, Tommy Currin Hamiter of Frost and Elbert Earl Hamiter of Lucas; and one sister, Alice Marie Thigpen of Allen; and two grandchildren, James Jalal Tatum and Russel Jamal Tatum, both of Kijabe, Kenya.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Hamiter, Tim Hamiter, Dan Christianson, Rick Groves, Dale Green, Ronny Green, Ted Green and Roy Green.

Raines, Montalba; two daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Gail Noble, Emmett, and Mrs. Lynell Mahone, Blooming Grove; four brothers, James Raines, Ruston, La., C.W. Raines, Athens, Jesse Raines, Palestine, and Nathaniel Raines, Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Belcher, Haywood Calif., Juanita Creel, Gulfport, La., and Mrs. Mary Catherine Price, Montalba; three granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews.

Marie Raines, 73 of Frost, died Dec. 31, 1996 in Navarro County, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Corley Funeral Chapel, Corsicana, with Bro. Matt Stroder officiating.  Burial was in the Emmett Cemetery.

Mrs. Raines is survived by daughters, Lynell and Danny Mahone of Blooming Grove; Bobbie and Bobby Noble of Emmett; granddaughters, Buffy and Kevin Tackett of Blooming Grove; Shande and Ashley Mahone of Blooming Grove; Brandi Bowling of Emmett; three great-grandchildren, Rowdy Tackett, Tayton McHone and Kadee Bowling.

Pallbearers were Ferrell Smithey, Ronnie Hiler, Ronnie Martin, Roy Green, Ted Green, and William Choate.

Mrs. Raines was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Raines.

He was a life-long resident of Navarro County, born and reared in the Raleigh community near frost. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rue Green of Frost; one son, V. L. Green of Waco; one daughter Mrs Helen Lane of Dallas; four sisters, Mrs Martha Young, Mrs. Sue Webb and and Mrs. Alice Gilbert all of Corsicana and Mrs. Clara Wright of Overton; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Frost Masonic Lodge who will also have charge of graveside services.

Service were to be at 3 p.m. at the Frost Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Sharpley of Corsicana officiating with burial to follow in the Frost Cemetery. Local arrangements were with Griffin Roughton Funeral Home here.

Surviving are a son, V.L. Green of Waco; a daughter, Helen Lane of Dallas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

BLOOMING GROVE (Sp) - Mrs. Stella Adkins, who has resided in Blooming Grove most of her life, died Tuesday morning in Memorial Hospital at the age of 76. She was born in Brandon.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, V. O. Adkins of Pecos; two daughters, Mrs. C. E. Fuller of Ennis, and Mrs. Doris Eddlemon of Blooming Grove; two brothers, D. H. Johnson of Bynum and Frank Johnson of Lowden Tenn; a sister, Mrs. Katie Kelso of Lowden; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Stella A. (Johnson) Adkins
May 10, 1892 - Mar 4, 1969

Mrs. Adkins Dies March 4

Mrs. Stella Adkins died in Memorial Hospital Tuesday, March 4, one day after being admitted. She had been residing in a Corsicana rest home for several years but had lived most of her life in the Blooming Grove community. Funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in First Baptist Church, Blooming Grove, with Rev. A. F. Sanders of Garland and pastor Ronnie Chesser officiating. Rev. Chesser was also vocal soloist and Mrs. Chesser was organist.

Casket Bearers were John George, Leone Reed, Hollis Pitts, Earnest Martin, C.L. Saunders and Jim Fuller. McCormick Funeral Service was in charge and interment was
in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Adkins was born May 10, 1892 at Brandon. Her survivors are a son, V. O Adkins of Pecos; 2 daughters, Mrs. Doris Eddlemon of Blooming Grove and Mrs. C. E. Fuller of Ennis; 2 brothers, D. H. Johnson of Bynum and Frank Johnson of Louden, Tenn.; sister, Mrs. Katie Kelso of Louden; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Rowland Johnston

Funeral services for Rowland Johnston, 71, Navarro county native who died Friday in Pasadena, Calif., were held there over the weekend.  He had lived in California three years.

Surviving are his wife; a son Rowlsnd Jr., two grand-daughters; two brothers, Andrew Johnston, Corsicana, and Carl Johnston, Houston; four sisters, Mrs. J. N. McFadden, Corsicana; Mrs. Charles G. Hervey, Raymondville; Misses Ethel and Bess Johnston, Dallas, and other relatives.


Clyde Mahoney 
Apr 26, 1910 - Mar 3, 1969

Clyde Mahoney, 58, Corsicana Rt. 3 rancher, died Monday evening in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  He was a native of Hill county but had resided most of his life near Corsicana.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Griffin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. O. E. Permenter officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. S. Sullivan.  Burial will be in the Hamilton cemetery.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Kenneth Mahoney; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Weaver; one sister, Mrs. Allie Jackson all of Corsicana; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

BLOOMING GROVE - Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church for Mrs. B. C. Gill, 88, former resident of Blooming Grove who died Thursday in Beaumont.
The Rev. W. A. Corley, pastor, officiated and burial was at Emmett Cemetery under the direction of Bradley Funeral Home in Blooming Grove.

Survivors include a son, Harry Gill of San Antonio; five daughters, Mrs. Ora Thomason of Waxahachie, Mrs. Lois Lassiter of Longview, Mrs. Kate Gunter of Fort Worth, Mrs. Essie Fanette of Plano, and Mrs. Millie Matthews of Beaumont; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Beny C. Gill, retired Blooming Grove farmer, died in Melhaven Convalescent Home Sunday morning. He was 89.

Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove. The Rev. A. F. Sanders the pastor, conducted and burial was in the Emmett Cemetery.

Born near Powell, Gill lived in Blooming Grove for the past 24 years. his survivors include his wife, Mrs. Melvia Gill, Blooming Grove; a son Harry Gill, San Antonio; five daughters, Mrs. C. E. Thompson, Fort Worth; Mrs. George C. Lassiter, Longview; Mrs. Kate Gunter, Fort Worth; Mrs. Glover Fanete, Great Falls, Mont.; a Mrs. D. S. Matthews, Beaumont; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were W. B. Farris, Clyde Hollingsworth, Delma Tipping, Boyd Bryant, C. P. Lynch and J. I. Hale, all of Blooming Grove.

She was a native of Florida and lived in Navarro County 86 years.

Survivors include five sons, Andy Trull of Corsicana, Hubert Trull and Dan Trull both of Kilgore, Lonnie Trull of Conroe, and Paul Trull of Longview; three daughters, Mrs. C. O. Anderson of Corsicana, Mrs. Frank Brown of Burnet, Mrs Charles Abbott of Longview, 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Great-grandsons will be pallbearers.

FROST - Funeral services were scheduled today at 3 p.m. at the Frost Baptist Church for Herman Crawford, 70, who died suddenly at his home in Frost Sunday. Rev. James Aldridge, pastor of Frost Baptist Church, will officiate, with burial in Dresden Cemetery under the direction of Bradley Funeral Home of Frost.

He was a Frost resident for 23 years. He was a former employee of the lumber yard in Frost and a member of the Frost Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Crawford of Frost; two sons, Erselle Crawford of Sherman and Leon Crawford of Frost; two daughters, Mrs. Estele Williams of Frost and Mrs. Glynell Thurman of Hillsboro, three brothers, J. C. Crawford of Corsicana, Homer Crawford of Corsicana, and G. W. Crawford of Whitney; two sisters, Mrs. Lorene Osborne of Corsicana and Mrs. Vera Lawhon of Garland; 11 grand children; and one great grandson.

Pallbearers will be Jerry S. Scott, Truman Raley, Jack Slater, F. M. Young Jr., Bert Howell, and Billy Hargrove.

FROST - Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Frost Baptist Church for Mrs. Reba A. Thompson, 64, of Frost who died Saturday night at Navarro County Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. W. H. Bradberry and the Rev E. W. French officiated. Interment was in Dresden Cemetery.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and also a member of the Missionary Baptist Chruch of Emmett.
Survivors include her husband, Martin Thompson of Frost; one son, Sam Thompson of Kerens; her mother, Martha T. Moore of Frost; two sisters, Rita Hollingsworth of Lancaster and Rozene Shadix of Houston; two brothers, Billy ray Moore of Amarillo and Sam Moore, Jr., of Dallas; and three grandchildren, Lowell, Brent, and Darrell all of Kerens.

Pallbearers were James Kelley, Jimmy Moore, Carlos Moore, Gary Conner, Leon Crawford and Mike Thompson.

Reba Thompson Is Buried

Funeral services for Reba Avis Thompson, 64, of Frost, were held Monday, Aug. 21, in the Frost Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.H. Bradberry and the Rev. G.W. French Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Dresden Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Ballard Funeral Home of Frost.

A native of Frost, Mrs. Thompson died Saturday, Aug. 19, in Navarro County Memorial Hospital after a 2-day illness.

Survivors include her husband, Martin Thompson of Frost; a son, Sam Thompson of Kerens; her mother, Martha Theresa Moore of Frost; two sisters, Mrs. Rita Hollingsworth of Lancaster and Rozene Shadix of Houston; two brothers, Billy Ray Moore of Amarillo and Sam Moore Jr. of Dallas; and three grandchildren, Lowell Brent and Darrell Thompson, all of Kerens.

James Anderson Raines, 96, of Montalba, died Jan. 6, 1994, in Athens. Funeral services are pending with Corley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Dresden Cemetery.
He was born July 17, 1897. He was a retired farmer and rancher in the Frost and Emmett Area. He moved to Montalba in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Raines, four sons, James Raines, Bobby Raines, Lester Raines, Jesse Raines and Bryan Wayne Raines; and one daughter Mary Catherine Price.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Belshaw of Hayward, Calif. and Jaunita Creel of Tennessee Colony; two sons, C. W. Raines of Larue and Nathaniel Raines of Corsicana; three sisters, Dessie Raines of Waco, Lenora Gray of Blue Ridge and Jewell Bryan of Whitney; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Julia Raines, 80, of Montalba, died Wednesday in Memorial Hospital. Services is 2 p.m. Friday in the Emmett Baptist Church with the Rev. W. H. Bradbury officiating. Burial in Dresden Cemetery. Corley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
She had lived in Montalba for several years and was a member of the Baptist church. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Lindsey. (should be W. M. Lindsey).
She is survived by her husband J. A. Raines, of Montalba; daughters Mrs. Dave Belshaw, of Haywood, Calif., Mrs. J. T. Creel, of Gulfport, Miss., Mrs., Lionel Price of Montalba; sons James Raines, of Ruston, La., Bobby Rains, of Emmett, C. W. Raines, of Baxter, Jessie Raines, of Palestine, Nathaniel Raines, of Corsicana; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Mary Ballew, of Fort Worth, Mrs. Willie Thompson of Dallas, Mrs. Joanna Barnes, of Moody, Mrs. Ruby Sewell, of Mexia, Mrs. Troy Fowler, of Temple; and several nieces and nephews.

Henry Herbert Downer, 67, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at House of Praise Church of God with Brother Tim Schane officiating. Interment will be held at a later time at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Downer was born Oct. 14, 1934 in Lexington, Miss. He had lived in Corsicana for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Downer Sr.; mother, Elizabeth Downer; sister, Dorothy Bishop; and brother, Al Downer.

Survivors include his wife, Edwina Poe of Corsicana; sisters, Patricia Hanna of Phoenix, Ariz., Louise Acy of Silver Creek, Miss., Margie Wilcox of Shellknob, Mo. and Ruthe Downer of Homer, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Patricia Louise (Wright) Roberts

Patricia Louise Wright-Roberts, 77, of San Francisco, Calif. passed away in San Francisco.

Services will be today in San Francisco, and at 11 a.m. Monday at Second Mission Baptist Church in Corsicana with the Rev. Larry Polk officiating and the Rev. Dairy Johnson as eulogist. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

She was born March 2, 1924 in Corsicana. She received her education in Corsicana and Dallas. She was a former member of Second Mission Baptist Church. She was a current member of Mount Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, and served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher for the women's department and teacher for the mission department.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Hattie Wright; son, Curtis Wilson; sister, Lula Mae Wright-McMullens; and brother, T. C. Wright.

Survivors include her husband William Earl "Bill" Roberts of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Gene Wright of Richmond, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Dr. Betty Burrus-Wright of Richmond, Calif., Catherine Wright, Sara Roberts, Eva M. Miller, Annie Laura Roberts and Birtha J. Roberts, all of Corsicana; brother, Clyde Roberts of Corsicana; five grandsons, three granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandsons, all of Oakland, Calif., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Charlotte Marie Lacy Conley, 80, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Dairy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

She was born July 27, 1921 in Vistula.

Survivors include her son, Alonzo Lacy of Dallas; sister, Ester Mancie of Willis; nieces, Rosie Hollins and Mae Frances Hollins, both of Houston; nephew, Lee McKnight of Willis; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Paul Douglas Giles, 59, of Edom, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Chandler Memorial Cemetery with Jeff Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Giles died Aug. 15, 2001, in Edom.

He was born Nov. 19, 1941, in Corsicana.

Mr. Giles attended school in Cross Roads and Malakoff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was self-employed. He lived in Edom for 20 years and was a member of Dogwood City Chapel.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Giles.

Survivors include his wife, Raetta Giles of Edom; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Giles of Edom, Robert and Angela Giles of Austin and Ron and Sandie Giles of Edom; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Marshall Harris of Tyler; mother, Katherine Giles of Chandler; brothers, William Giles of Edom, Stephen Giles of Edom, Phillip Giles of Chandler, Duane Giles of Palestine and Eric Giles of Edom; sisters, Virginia Elaine Parsons of Tyler, Ruth Smiley of Chandler and Annette Giles of Maryland; and nine grandchildren.

Jim H. Bosley, 77, of Richland, died July 27, 1990, at his residence. Services are 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Corley Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Richland Cemetery. He was born April 6, 1913 in Wortham and lived most of his live in Richland. He was a retired assembly line worker for Ford Motor Company and was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Frances Bosley of Richland; two sons, Jimmy Joe Bosley of Athens, and Danny Bosley of Mexia; one sister, Ruby Davis of Richland; one brother Bailey Bosley of Richland; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Bosley was born March 18, 1908 in Limestone County. He was married to Elouise Bosley woh passed away on Sept 3, 1996, they had been married for 67 years. Mr. Bosley was a member of Richland Baptist Church. He was a retired rancher.
Mr. Bosley is survived by his son, Mr. Donald Bosley of Houston; Sister Ruby Davis of Richland; grandson, Ronny Bosley of Richland and Brian Bosley; two grand-daughters, Cindy and Vicky; daughter-in-law, Helen Bosley of Houston and 8 great grandchildren.
