Caleb Pinkney Green Sr. was born near Greenville South Carolina, in 1817.  He married Nancy Bryant, Georgia, and settled in Deklab County, Alabama.  In the early 1850's the Green family moved to Walker County Alabama, became successful farmers, owning 1200 acres of farmland, and owning and operating a distillery.  The Civil War brought an end to their tranquil existence in Alabama and set brother against brother, as two of his sons fought for the South and one for the North.

The family came to Navarro County, Texas in 1868 and settled in or near the Raleigh Community at the west end of Navarro County.  Caleb Pinkney stayed in Navarro County only a short while, moving south to the Hempstead area for a short time.  He died in 1872.  He was a member of the Masons and the Odd Fellows.  One of his sons, Caleb, Jr. remained in Navarro County.   Caleb Jr. was born in Walker County, AL on June 22, 1862.  He married Molly Othella Williams, Daughter of Henry Thomas and Martha Jane (Thomas / Lindsey) Williams, who was only 12 at the time.  They settled in the Emmett Community and purchased a farm which is now located on Farm Road 744, one mile east of Emmett.  Caleb Jr. farmed and owned a grocery store in Emmett.  In 1913 the Green family was building a new home on the Green farmland.  Caleb Pinkney, Jr. got a bad case of the hiccups and died, never living to see the new home completed.  Molly lived with her son Charlie and wife Ila until she died in 1943.  C. P. and Mollie are buried in the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Emmett, Navarro Co., TX as are her parents, Henry and Martha Williams, two brothers and many of her descendents.  Many of her children and descendents are also buried at the Frost Cemetery.

MEMORIAL FROM THE PRAIRIE GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH RECORDS

Mollie Othella Green

Sister Mollie Ottella Green was born January 5, 1869. She was married to Kale Green September 27, 1879. He preceded her in death many years ago. To this union were born twelve children eleven of whom are living, Ben, Ike, and Mrs. Martha Young all of Frost, Sam and Charles of Emmett, Tom of Redbud, Mrs. Sudell Webb of Corsicana, Mrs. Anna Hollaway Corsicana, Mrs. Alice Strickland, Dallas and Mrs. Clara Toten, Dawson.

Sister Green professed faith in Christ at an early age probably about fourteen years of age and united with the Missionary Baptist Church. Sister Green departed this life December 30,1943. She was laid to rest January 1, in the Emmett Cemetery.

She had a wonderful faith in God and said in her affliction that Jesus was coming to take her home. She loved her church, home and children. Her great desire that all her children meet her in Heaven.

Great are the memories of a good Christian woman like Sister Green who has gone to be with our Savior to await the morning of the Resurrection. We recommend a copy be spread on church records, a copy be sent to the family and a copy be sent to the Baptist Progress.
