Davidson, 75, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012
at Baylor Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Davidson was born Feb. 19,
1937 in Dallas and was raised in Corsicana by the IOOF Home.
Mrs. Davidson was a military wife, married to Bobby D.
Davidson for 55 years. She was a member of the Pleasant
Grove United Methodist Church.
She worked at Hands Furniture Company of Corsicana for 20
years. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will
be missed by all her loved ones. She was loved by many for
her sincere, considerate, caring and giving spirit.
Mrs. Davidson was preceded in death by her mother, Margie
Fox; sister, June Twyford; brother, Jimmy Hinds; mother and
father-in-law, Juliet and Harvie Davidson.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby D. Davidson; daughter,
Karla Bianchi and husband Mark of Rockwall, son, Bryan "Tig"
Davidson and wife Debbie of Santa Fe, Texas, daughter, Kerri
French of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jason Fewell and wife
Melissa of Galveston, Jeffrey Davidson of Santa Fe, Kyle
Davidson and wife Crissy of Santa Fe, Natalie Hester and
Luke Lucas of Alvin, Katie French of Virginia Beach, VA,
Kelly French of Corsicana and Garet Davidson of Santa Fe;
great-grandchildren, Kylie Davidson, Mason Fewell, Kennedy
Davidson and Brannon Lucas; sister, Patricia D'Amico and
husband Mike of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Bill Hinds
and wife Carolyn of Carmel, CA; as well as numerous nieces
and nephews, Cindy, Tonda, Stacey, Kelly, Jeff, Darrell,
Stephanie, Ginger and Kelsey.
Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. at Corley
Funeral Home on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
Services will be Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Corley
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leslie Byrd officiating.
Burial will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Retreat. Pallbearers will be
Jason Fewell, Jeffrey Davidson, Kyle Davidson, Garet
Davidson, Bobby Brady, Mickey Don McCain.

Kathryn McLendon Gesell

 Kathyrn
McLendon Gesell, 82, died peacefully on Thursday, May 17,
2012 after a year-long, courageous battle with cancer.
Kathryn was born on April 23, 1930 in Corsicana to Dr.
Thomas P. McLendon and Katie Cosnahan McLendon. She attended
school in Corsicana, graduating from Corsicana High School
in
1947. While at Corsicana High School, Kathryn was a
cheerleader for the Fighting Tigers and an honor student.
Upon graduation, Kathryn attended Ward-Belmont in Nashville,
Tenn. for two years. With the completion of her studies at
Ward-Belmont in May 1949, Kathryn transferred to The
University of Texas at Austin, where she became a member
Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She received a BA in English
from The University of Texas at Austin in June 1951.
In 1952, Kathryn moved to Odessa where she taught third
grade. While in Odessa, she met William S. Gesell and they
married on Jan. 9, 1954.
Their marriage was blessed with three children — Mary
Kathryn in 1955, Thomas McLendon in 1958 and Stephen Mercer
in 1965. Kathryn and Bill moved to Midland in 1956 where she
lived the rest of her life.
Kathryn was an accomplished painter, taking classes at
Midland College from Warren Taylor for many years. She also
greatly enjoyed playing bridge and received her honorary
Life Master certificate in April 2012 from the American
Contract Bridge League. She was a member of St.
Nicholas Episcopal Church, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and
Christ Church Midland. Kathryn was also a member of The
Junior League of Midland, The Minuet Club, The Coterie Club,
The Midland Country Club, The Rake and Spade Garden Club and
Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Club. She enjoyed all forms of
needlework, especially knitting and needlepoint.
Through the years, she stitched many beautiful needlepoint
Christmas stockings for several families in Midland and
kneelers for Christ Church Midland and St. Nicholas
Episcopal Church
Kathryn was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in February
1994; her father, Dr. McLendon in 1932; her mother, Katie
McLendon in 1976; and her brother, Tom McLendon in 1922.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law Bill
Wallace; son, Mac Gesell; and son, Stephen Gesell and
daughter-in-law Christie, all of Midland. She has four
grandchildren, Katie Joyner and husband Dave of Midland, Amy
Wallace of Los Angeles, Calif., and Madeline and Maddox
Gesell of Midland. Kathryn had two little rays of sunshine
in her great-granddaughters, Fay and Willa Joyner of
Midland.
We want to express our deep thanks to the wonderful nurses
who cared so kindly for our mother in these last weeks, Mary
Leon, Cecilia Montoya, Sarah and Idia Hererra, Missy Lopez,
Audrey Hines and Chris Walker. To the staff of Hospice
Midland and the staff of the in-patient unit of Midland
Memorial Hospital, we are grateful to you also for the
wonderful care Kathryn received. God bless you and your
service. We had great peace through these final weeks
knowing she was in your capable, loving hands.

 Evelyn
B. Moore, age 95, went to take her place among the other
angels with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 11, 2012 at
Baybrooke Village Care and Rehab Center in McKinney, Texas.
She was born Jan. 21, 1917, to Martin Luther and Florence
Gard in Lyra, Texas.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd B. Moore;
parents, Martin and Florence Gard; brothers; James "Bud" Gard; and sister, Lillian G. Brown.
She is survived by two sons: Tobin Moore of Kaufman, and L.
B. Moore and wife, Cheryl of Allen; grandchildren, Sherilyn
Bennett, Kylie Dayton, Alysha Moore and Jonathan Moore; and
five great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was very creative. She was very involved in eggery
and she created decorated eggs that showed great detail and
beauty. She and her husband, Lloyd raised prize winning
chrysanthemums. She loved refinishing furniture and all
types of craft work. Evelyn also enjoyed singing.
Evelyn spent many years as the manager of the Greenbriar
Apartments in Corsicana.
No formal visitation is scheduled.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:30
a.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Corsicana with
Dr. Danny Reeves and Rev. B.F. Risinger, Jr. officiating.
Burial will immediately follow at
Oakwood Cemetery. |

Joyce Marie Ewing, 66 of Corsicana, passed away on Tuesday,
May 15, 2012 at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. She
was born on December 4, 1945 in Corsicana to Alvis Elmer
Miles and Roberta Thomas Miles. She graduated from Corsicana
High School and worked at Humbert's Hickory House as a
waitress.
Survivors include her husband James Leroy Ewing of
Corsicana. Children:
Robin Ewing Cruz and husband Melito of Corsicana and James
Ewing and wife Misty of Corsicana. Grandchildren: Kristi,
Kevin, and Erica Cruz and Clint, Justin, and Heather Ewing.
Great grandchildren: Jordan, Jacob, and Katie Cruz. She is
also survived by two brothers Jerry Miles and wife Rita and
Robert Miles and wife Bettie both of Corsicana.

Palmeri, 92, of Corsicana, passed away on Tuesday, May 15,
2012 at home with her family by her side. She was born Sept.
28, 1919 to Willie Conway Younger and Wrinnie Estelle Dorsey
Younger, in Corsicana.
Loree attended Corsicana schools where she met and married
Freeman Farrell. Loree and Freeman had a son, David Dale
Farrell in 1937.
Freeman was tragically killed in an automobile accident
shortly thereafter, at age 21. Later Loree married Stephen
Palmeri and they remained married until his death in 1975.
Loree worked at her father's business, Martin Linen Supply
Co. while rearing David, and then worked at Tom's Foods for
many years before retiring. She was a member of the St.
Luke's United Methodist Church in Corsicana.
Loree enjoyed many of her weekends with her family and
friends on the lake fishing during the spring and summer and
at the deer lease during the winter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and
her grandson David Dale Farrell, Jr.
She is survived by her son David Dale Farrell, Sr. and wife
Jan Farish Farrell, of Chester, Texas; brother Willie Conway
Younger of Kerens; granddaughter, Cynthia Tribble and
husband Ricky of Winnie, Texas, and youngest granddaughter
Rebecca Farrell of Wimberley. She was a great-grandmother to
Brandon Tribble and wife Rendi, and Christopher Tribble and
wife Camarie all of Winnie. She just recently became a
great-great grandmother to Eli Michael Tribble (the fifth
generation).
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Janice Palmeri, of
Corsicana, and Charlene Palmeri, of Garland, brother-in-law
Sam Palmeri and wife Joan of Waco, her niece Vicki Younger
Myers and husband Tom of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Greg
Younger and wife Laurie of Allen. She is also survived by
many other loving nieces and nephews. She leaves many of her
good friends from Sally's Beauty Shop of Doucette, Texas.
Loree was like a mother to John Smith and wife Nell of
Corsicana and James Earley and wife Michelle of Rockdale,
and Gena Chandler and son Cole of Corsicana.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m.
at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be held at Corley Funeral Home Chapel at 11
a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012. Interment will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman

 Sheila
Richter, 63, of Corsicana and formerly of Albany died
Sunday, May 13, 2012 in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital
in Dallas.
Sheila was born June 29, 1948 in Beaver, Okla. to Julius Gus
and Dorothy Huskey Seedig. She was a 1965 graduate from
Albany High School and graduated from Howard College in 1995
with an Associates Degree. Sheila married Eugene Ernest
Richter on Aug. 13, 1966 in Albany, Texas. They were married
45 years and were blessed with three children. Sheila
enjoyed sending birthday cards to family members and
collecting Precious Moments figurines. She also enjoyed the
holidays when all the family was together. Sheila was very
proud of the fact that her three children graduated from
high school and college. Finally MeeMaw, as she was known,
greatly enjoyed every minute with her grandchildren. Sheila
was a member of the Lutheran Church with her last membership
being in Sonora at the Hope Lutheran Church.
Sheila was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Huskey
Seedig, her father Julius Gus Seedig, a brother, Gary Carl
Seedig, a sister Julie Seedig Dennis and a niece Melissa Ann
Dennis.
Sheila is survived by her husband Eugene Ernest Richter of
Corsicana; a daughter, Kathryn Michelle Wilganowski of
Bremond, Texas; a son, Kevin Eugene Richter of North
Richland Hills, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Adam
Kristopher and Kari Ashcraft Richter of Corsicana; a
brother, Ray Allen Seedig of Wichita Falls; a niece,
Michelle Denise Beeson of Richmond, Texas; two
granddaughters, Mackenzie Ann Wilganowski of Bremond, and
Kathryn Grace Richter of Corsicana; and one grandson
Kristopher Dale Richter of Corsicana.
Family visitation will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9
until 11 a.m.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. until service time at
the church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the
Trinity Lutheran Church in Albany with burial to follow in
the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Howard

Rites Thursday For Charlie M. Vandiver
Funeral services for Charles McKinsey Vandiver, aged 72 years, who
died at his home at Lone Cedar Wednesday, May 17, were held at the
Lone Cedar church Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. W. S.
Fisher, pastor of the Blooming Grove Methodist church, conducting
the rites.
Mr. Vandiver was a native of Tennessee, came to Texas and settled at
Lone Cedar where he resided until his death. He was very loyal to
the Lone Cedar church up until his health failed.
He is survived by a daughter, Miss Ruth Vandiver, Lone Cedar; two
sisters, Mattie and Rose, who reside in Tennessee; a large number of
other relatives and a host of friends.
Interment was made in the Lone Oak cemetery with the McCormick
Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Lindon Forest England, a member of the Greatest Generation,
passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Heritage Oaks
Retirement Village at the age of 88.
Lindon was born in Van Alstyne, Texas, the second child of
John Winbourne and Bonnie Lillian England. Lindon grew up in
Wichita Falls, graduating from Wichita Falls Senior High
School and ultimately Midwestern State University after his
service in World War II. Lindon was a proud Naval Aviator
serving in both WWII and Korea, flying the N2S Stearman,
BT13 Vultee Vibrator, Beech 18, SNJ3, PV 1-3, R4D 5 & 6,
PBY6A and the P2V5A. Following WWII, Lindon worked for
Phillips Petroleum as an exploratory land man until his
retirement in 1985.
His beloved wife of 42 years Alena will welcome him into
heaven.
Lindon is survived by his daughters Sharon Lynette Addison
and her husband Ralph, Patricia Anne Summerall and her
husband Dan and son John Kevin England. He is additionally
survived by his granddaughters Jennifer Summerall Greenwood
and husband Chris, and Sarah Summerall Schafer and husband
Nathan and great-grandson Avery Charles Schafer. He is
additionally survived by his sister Wannajean Brookby and
her sons Harry and wife Judy, Bruce and wife Jean, and
Robert (Bo) and wife Kathy.
Interment at the DFW National Cemetery will be conducted at
a later date.
A special thank you from the family to Dr. Bob Kingman and
the wonderful Angels at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village for
the gentle care they gave.

Hawkins passed away peacefully to her Lord Monday, June 18,
2012
in Corsicana, Texas. She was born in Chatfield, Texas on May
19, 1933 to
Irene and Paul Garner; married Jimmie Hawkins February 16,
1950 and lived all of her life in Corsicana, Texas.
She was a lifetime member of Wesley Methodist Church and
participated in the United Methodist Women's group. In
addition, she enjoyed quilting with the Piecemakers Quilt
Guild, playing "Joker" on game day at the Senior Center and
attending the annual "Hen Party".
During her working years she was employed by Texas Miller
(Adam Hats),
J.M Dyer Company and Medical Arts Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmie
Hawkins,
brother-in-law Roy Collins and sister-in-law Linda Berry.
Survivors include: Daughter, Karen Hawkins Fenton and
husband Al of
Houston, Texas; son, Tommy Hawkins and wife Cindy of
Corsicana, Texas;

Michael George Westover

 Mike
Westover, 58, passed away peacefully Friday night, June 8,
2012.
Mike was born Aug. 17, 1953 in La Mesa, Calif., the second
of four children to Arzell and George Westover. At an early
age Mike's family moved from Pasadena and settled in
Streetman. Mike eventually moved to Corsicana and for many
years managed the muffler shop on the corner of Beaton and
Seventh Ave. We know many people will remember his jolly
sense of humor and great smile. He was a friend to many
Corsicana residents.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Arzell and
George Westover.
Survivors include his brothers and sister, George Jr.,
Patrick and Bonnie. They are saddened by the early loss of a
caring and loving brother, and will always remember him that
way. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews
who miss Uncle Mike.
Mike retired several years ago form the Muffler Shop for
health reasons, and was enjoying a life of retirement with
his fiancee Berna Arredondo.
Mike also enjoyed the outdoors and collecting guns and
knives. Anyone who came in contact with Mike will remember
him. We hope you never forget him, he continues to live in
the hearts of his family members.
It's not goodbye Mike, it's "We'll see you later."
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Charles Howard "Chuck" Ollar
June 5, 1932 - June 7, 2012
Texas resident Charles Howard Ollar, 80, died Thursday, June 7,
2012, at his home in Streetman.
Chuck was born June 5, 1932, in Dallas. Chuck was a great
engineering mind who could accomplish anything he set his mind to
do. He served in the United States Army during the
Korean war and spent 15 months
as an infantry specialist stationed in Germany. Chuck was honorably
discharged in 1955 and returned home to Texas to his wife, Joan
Ollar. The majority of Chuck's professional career was in the field
of Aerospace engineering. He developed a large scale water
desalinization system for the country of Egypt. At the time this was
the largest facility of its kind. He holds a U.S patent for an
aerial refuelling pod developed for in-flight refuelling of military
aircraft. Chuck spent the majority of his years in Texas. He and his
wife, Joan, built their dream home in Streetman on a piece of
property passed down for many generations. Chuck and Joan enjoyed
many wonderful years there together, raising animals and
entertaining guests.
He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years,
Joan.
Chuck is survived by brother, Carl B. Ollar Jr.; daughter, Kimberley
J. Riso; son, Charles R. Ollar; his grandchildren, Charles C. Riso,
Marissa Ollar, and Alexis Ollar; and great grandchildren Drew, Myka,
Avery and Aston.
Chuck was a loving father, husband and friend, who will be greatly
missed.
A memorial service is being held Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the
Birdston Cemetery in
Streetman.

Stephanie Diane Jones
Jan 13, 1978 - June 5, 2012
 The
light that burned so brightly as Stephanie Diane Jones, 34,
flickered out and she went home to be with the Lord, on
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Medical City, Dallas, Texas with
her family and close friends by her side.
Stephanie's little light began shining on Jan. 13, 1978 to
her mother and best friend Mary Lou Jones, and her father
and confidant Donnell Lewis. The Light continued to burn as
she received her formal education in the Corsicana
Independent School District, graduating in 1996. The light
burned brighter as she received her bachelor's degree from
Northwood College in 2008.
She accepted the Light of the world into her life and united
with the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church at a very
early age, under the leadership of Rev. M.C. Spriggs. She
worked to show herself approved at Mount Olive, until her
moving to Lancaster, Texas in 1999 and uniting with the
Inspiring Body Of Christ, under the leadership of Pastor
Rickey G. Rush.
Stephanie met and married Nicholas Andre Terry on Dec. 25,
1999 and from this union two little lights begin to burn.
She was currently employed with Correctional Corp. of
America, in Dallas as a teacher.
Waiting to greet her on the other side is her brother whom
she loved dearly, Derek Lynn Jones, maternal grandparents
Annie and William Jones, paternal grandparents Ethel M.
Lewis and Aaron Lewis.
Stephanie was a gifted educator, coaching basketball and
track. She had a real zest for life, making her children and

loved her.

the Nile.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents and two
brothers.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 57 years, Bobby
J. "Bob" Steele; daughters, Beverley and husband
Ernest Couch, and Becky and husband Joe Quattrochi;
grandchildren, Angela and Jacob Quattrochi; and several
nieces and nephews.

Center in Dallas.
He was born Sept. 23, 1953 in Corsicana, son of Gladys and Rudolph
Lake.
Mr. York had worked for the Corsicana Daily Sun, and for the Dallas
Times Herald until it's closing. He also worked for National
Envelope. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will
be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Kay York; two sons, Jason York and wife
Melani of Corsicana, and Chris St. Clair and wife Tracey of China
Springs; two daughters, Hollie Hollis and husband Bobby of Pilot
Point, and Dixie Forcht and husband Craig of Chelsea, Iowa; a
sister, Linda Taylor of Dallas; an aunt, Sammie Pratt Messenger of
Corsicana; an uncle, Byron McDonald and wife Sandy of Kerens; six
granddaughters, Audrey York, Dalyn Waldo, Bailey Waldo, Camille

Jeanette Phillips, 58 of Powell, was met in Heaven by her
mother Ester Acker, sister Suzie Flowers and brother David
Smith on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. She was born Sept. 25,
1953 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Walter Augustine and Ester
Lorraine Smith.
She worked for Butler Telephone Company as a contract
installer and enjoyed her work very much. Her biggest
accomplishment was her daughter Lori and her world revolved
around Lori and the grandchildren. Family was number one.
She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed going to the Casino
and in her younger years she liked dancing and music. She
also enjoyed feeding and watching the Hummingbirds. She
attended the Cowboy Church of Ennis and really enjoyed
Sunday services.
She is survived by her husband Tony Phillips; daughter, Lori
Wilks and husband J.T.; grandchildren, Annette Derden,
Brittney L. Derden, Nathan Layne Wilks; great grandson,
Hunter Garner and expecting granddaughter Kenzlie Julian and
expecting grandson, who she was excited about meeting. She
is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Grider, Debbie Combs,
Dinneen Goodner; brothers Bud Smith and Roy Smith. Also
survived by nieces Petsie Ford, Charlotte Rouse, Nikki
Ballard, Amanda Anderson, Suzi Smith, and nephews Bill
Kessinger, Roy Smith Jr., Jason Kingrey, Kevin Combs,
Michael Rigdon, Josh Smith. Countless great nieces and
nephews and great great nieces and nephews will miss her, as
well.

 Mrs.
Valero Ford Garner (Val) went home to her Lord on Monday,
June 11, 2012 at the age of 97 years and 10 months. During
her near-century life, her sweet and loving spirit touched
many, and her unconditional love was a profound blessing and
inspiration to all who knew her. We are heart-broken because
of our loss, but immeasurably jubilant for her victory over
death and her eternal peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ.
Valero was born in Purdon on Aug. 15, 1914. She graduated
Salutatorian from Mildred High School in 1931. She was
elated to attend the latest Mildred reunion, where she was,
of course, the oldest alumnus. Most of her life was spent
near her family in Navarro County, but she moved to Garland
to live with her daughter Barbara and near her
granddaughters Julie and Jennifer in April of 2010. Although
she suffered from congestive heart failure, her faith in God
and her joyous outlook on life never faltered. As quietly
and tenderly as she lived, so she passed gently from this
life in her sleep.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carey Alford Ford
and Bertha Mae Williams Ford; her step-mother, Mary Ford
Slaughter; three sons, Luther D. Batson, Bennie Ford Batson,
and Gary Eugene Batson; her sisters Bobbie Jewel Putman and
Patti Rue McCarter; her brother Carey Ford, Jr.; her beloved
grandson James Luther Batson; and her great-grandson Austin
Batson. She was also preceded in death by her husbands,
Crumpton Batson, James Garner, and Johnie Floyd.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha and
Bobby Lindeman of Teague and Barbara and Johnny Evans of
Garland. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Becky
Easdon, Bobby Lindeman, Jr., Bennie Lindeman, Billy
Lindeman, Debbie Parten, Lynda Batson, Mark Batson, Kevin
Batson, Gary Batson, Sherrie Donaldson, Julie Palumbo, and
Jennifer Housley; her great-grandchildren Jason Easdon,
Michael Easdon, Brian Lindeman, Bradley Lindeman, Billy
Lindeman, Jr., Elizabeth Lindeman, Les Lindeman, Justin
Batson, Hayden Batson, Jon Parten, Haley Woeller, Cody
Parten, Josh Vercher, Michael Batson, Malynn Batson, Allie
Batson, Daniel Donaldson, Aaron Redker, Phillip Palumbo,
Matthew Palumbo, Jessika Palumbo, James Housley, and Jenna
Housley. She also leaves her legacy to a growing collection
of great-great grandchildren, including Madalyn Donaldson,
Gauge Redker, Landon Easdon, Hagen Parten, Conrad Batson,
Monica Harris, and Brooklyn Vercher.
Additionally, Val is survived by her dear sister-in-law,
Louise Ford of Corsicana and countless nieces and nephews,
including Brenda Duncan, Kathy Tapscott, and Jimmie McCarter
all of Corsicana. Brenda, Kathy and Jimmie were particularly
attentive to "Aunt Sis," and their nurturing and
encouragement helped Aunt Sis through a most critical time,
which lifted her spirit and gave her immense joy.
Valero also leaves behind her loving nurse and dearest
companion, Verna Williams. Verna's loving and godly spirit
nurtured Val's spiritual heart as well as her physical one.
Verna is truly a blessing from God and was a cherished and
faithful friend of Val's for two years.
Val loved to sing and particularly enjoyed praising God with
her friends at Blooming Grove Church of Christ. Brenda
Russell faithfully kept Val informed of all the news every
week, and the bulletins brought great joy to Val and gave
her the feeling of staying connected with her long-time
friends and supporters. David Haden, the son of her dear
friend Aline Haden, will be the minister in charge of her
funeral. Val specifically asked that most of the time be
spent singing, and we will honor that wish. Her eulogy will
be given by her granddaughter Julie Palumbo of Sachse.
Valero will be buried with her family at Younger Cemetery
beside her husband James Garner, her companion for many
years, and whom she called, "the love of my life." She will
be carried to her final resting place by her
great-grandsons.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

 Nellie
Mae Welch Crum, age 93, of Corsicana, passed away Wednesday,
June 20, 2012 at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana. She was
born May 20, 1919 in Hope, Ark. to Ella Qua and James Thomas
Welch. Nell came to Texas in a covered wagon.
She cherished her family and friends, was an avid reader, a
talented seamstress, a passionate and creative painter, and
a talented Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the
Rebeccas and served as Grand Matriarch, among all her other
duties with her Rebecca friends. She worked as a seamstress
at Haggar Slack Co. for 30 years. She was a faithful member
at Westside Baptist and lastly at Northside Baptist. She was
not only a beautiful lady on the outside, but most
importantly, on the inside.
As her children aptly put it – "Life was her canvas, not
only was her paint brush filled with every imaginable color
of the rainbow, it was filled with her love for God, family
and friends which is evident in her art." Her many, many
paintings hang in all her children's homes and the beautiful
quilts she made for each of them serve as a reminder of her
love of beauty and her devotion to family. Her life has been
a wonderful journey and Chapter Two will be absolutely
amazing. Her faith in her Savior kept her going and her
favorite verse was Isaiah 41:13.
"For I hold you by your right hand
I, the Lord your God and I say to you
Don’t be afraid I am here to help you."
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and James
Welch; husband, Isaac Lee Crum; and a great-grandchild,
Markus Contreras.
She is survived by her four children, Clyde Crum, Virginia

husband Larry; grandchildren, Cary Crum and wife Karen, Cody

Laura Cox Love, 81 of Corsicana, passed away Tuesday, May
29, 2012, at Navarro Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Hempstead, to Rosalie and
Atwell Cox. She was a graduate of Corsicana High School,
after which she attended Ward Belmont College before
graduating from Southern Methodist University.
She loved Corsicana and gave back to her community in many
ways. Laura was active in the First United Methodist Church,
Quintilian, Daughters of the American Revolution, Child
Evangelism Fellowship, and Food for Fitness. Laura was also
an active member of United Methodist Women.
Laura had a zest for life and she laughed easily. Laura
loved to travel and saw many wonderful places throughout the
world. She cherished her lifelong friends with whom she
spent many hours, both traveling and at home. Laura was
devoted foremost to her family whom she loved with fervor.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Love; and
parents, Atwell and Rosalie Cox.
Survivors include her sons, John Daniel Goins Jr. of
Houston, and Atwell Cox Goins and wife Lesa of Corsicana;
grandsons, Atwell Cox Goins Jr. and wife Amanda Godbois
Goins of Mustang, Okla., and Andrew Clayton Goins of College
Station.

Paul Ray Mitchell, age 66, of Eureka went to be with the
Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012, with his loving wife,
Marilyn of 43 years by his side.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1945 in Dallas, to parents, Alice
Virginia and Elvin Dewitt Mitchell.
He was a devoted husband and father, and an extraordinary
Pepaw to his grandchildren. As a young man, he served in the
United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a Purple
Heart recipient. He became an electrician and acquired his
Masters License, allowing him to own and operate Action
Electric in Dallas, then Mitchell Electric in Corsicana.
He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge and served on
the MEN Water Board for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Alice
Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Helen Mitchell and Ruth Mitchell;
and a brother-in-law, Jim Rodgers.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Marilyn Mitchell;
daughters, Kellie Cope and husband Don of Mildred, and
Beverly Strange and husband Ed of Kerens; son, Bryan

Larry was born in Corsicana, to L. F. and Anna Ruth (Hinkle)
Hughes on March 5, 1942. He grew up in Ennis and graduated
from Ennis High School in 1961. He married Betty L. Gantt on
Nov. 23, 1962, and they made their home in Waco. Larry
proudly served his country in the
United States Air Force
from June 1961 until May 1965 as an Aircraft Electrical
Engineer.
He and Betty moved to Ennis in 1965 and then to Frost in
1978.
He worked for Falcon Business Forms for 15 years as a
pressman. He was a member of Refiner's Fire Ministry of
Ennis. He raised exotic birds for
10 years. He enjoyed fishing and being with his family and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother,
Barry Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Hughes of Frost;
brother-in-law, Perry L. Murphy of Corsicana;
sisters-in-law; Kay Gantt of Frost and Jane Hughes of Ennis;
three nephews: three nieces and numerous great nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, in
the J. E.
Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. A Celebration of his life
will follow visitation at 3 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary
Chapel with the Rev.
Cord Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Frost

She was preceded in death by her husband, Seldon Smetzer; a
son-in-law, Bobbie Clay; her parents; and siblings, Louie
Strange, Horace Strange, Odell Strange and Juanita Beavers.
Survivors include her loving family, including six children,
William Smeltzer and his wife Frankie, Lillie Clay, Velma
Langford and her husband Clarence, Carol Ray Smeltzer and
his wife Susan, Charles Smeltzer and his wife Robin, and
Seldon Smeltzer and his wife Phyllis;
22 grandchildren, Deborah, Michael, Steven, Pam, David,
Randy, Sheila, Eugene, Christopher, Danny, Ricky, Cindy,
Martha, Timothy, Stewart, Wanda, Geraldine, Lance, Tammy,
Ken, Loretta and Danny; 38 great grandchildren; and 24

PIONEER NAVARRO COUNTY WOMAN BE BURIED AT EMMETT
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Elkins, aged 85 years,
long-time resident of Navarro county, are scheduled Friday afternoon
at 3 o’clock at the Emmett Baptist church. Interment will be in the
Emmett cemetery.
Mrs. Elkins widow of the late M. F. (Bink) Elkins of Emmett, died at
Mineral, Texas, Sunday. She had resided at Brushy Prairie and Emmett
for many years before going to Mineral, to reside a few years ago,
Mrs. Elkins was born, Jan. 3, 1859, in Arkansas.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Martha James, Lockney; Mrs. Annie
Osborne, Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Corsicana; Mrs. Dora
Brownine, Compton, Calif.; Mrs. Addie Harris, Mineral, Texas, and
Mrs. George McAfee, Compton, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren, four half sisters and a half-brother.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
The body arrived in Corsicana shortly after noon Thursday.

Curtis Craig, aged 44 years, died suddenly at his home at Barry
Thursday morning and funeral services have been planned for Friday
afternoon from the Irene Methodist church, with interment being made
in the Emmett cemetery.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. D. C. Craig, Kaufman, and four
brothers, Will Craig of Kaufman; George and Hall Craig, both of
Irene, and Ed Craig of Barry.

FORMER RESIDENT EMMETT COMMUNITY DIED NEAR LOVING
James Anderson Cook, age 81 years, former resident of Emmett,
Navarro county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Bills,
near Loving, Young county, Sunday night. Funeral rites were held
from the Loving Baptist church Monday afternoon with burial in the
Loving cemetery. The services were conducted by his pastor, Rev.
Hubert Foust.
Mr. Cook had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Bills for the
past 19 years since his wife died at Emmett.
Surviving are six children, G. Sears Cook, Colorado City; Mrs.
Bills, Mrs. C. D. Barnhart, Van; Otha R. Cook, Sweetwater; Mrs. E.
C. Blinkscales, Spur, and Maj. Tim O. Cook, Fort George Meade, Md.;
19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J. M. Barnett, H. G. Millican, Earl Whear, J. W.
Hickerson, Esther Dickson and Noel Ligon.
Mr. Cook frequently visited friends and relatives in Corsicana,
Emmett and Frost communities after moving to Loving.

Blooming Grove Native Dies
Ralph E. Turner, 83, of Garrett died Monday morning August 18, in
Ennis Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Turner was born in Blooming Grove, June 17, 1897, the son of Jim
and Ada (McGraw) Turner. He was reared in the community and after
finishing school farmed in the area. During World War II, he worked
for the Bethlehem Steel Company in Corsicana. In October, 1915, he
was married to Stella Mae Mitchell of Blooming Grove and they made
their home there until 1950 when they moved to the Ennis area. He
continued to farm until retiring in 1962. Mr. Turner was a member of
the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, R. E. Turner Jr. and James
Turner both of Garrett; one daughter, Mrs. George Lenox of Garrett;
four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs.
David Yates of Frost.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 19 in Keener
Chapel with the Rev. Joe Hixon officiating. Interment was in
Rose Hill Cemetery in
Blooming Grove.

Mr. Hubert Joyce Danford of Dawson died Tuesday, June 23 at his
residence. He was born December 2, 1918 in Hubbard. A veteran of
World War II, he was a
retired mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ann Lancaster
Danford of Dawson; one daughter, Joyce Sue Hasse of Dawson; one
step-daughter, Lu Ann Cornett of Dawson; his mother, Julia Danford

nursing home.

A native of Mississippi, he was a member of the Church of Christ and
a retired security guard for Continental Can Company.

Frank L. Leathers, 94, of Corsicana, died March 18, 1990, at Navarro
Regional Hospital.

be in Hamilton-Beeman

He was born July 11, 1895, in Mount Calm, and had lived in Corsicana
for 75 years. He was a deacon at Second Avenue Baptist Church, and
had worked for Bethlehem Steel Company, American Wells and Texas
Tool Traders in Dallas.
Survivors include four brothers, John Leathers of Odessa, Orbie
Williams of Hobbs, N. M.; Odie Williams and D. C. Williams, both of
Lamesa; one sister-in-law, Enna Mae Williams; and several nieces and
nephews.
Masons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Varnell dies in Waco auto wreck

Fay Belle Varnell, 72, a past executive secretary of the local
American Red Cross, died Monday afternoon from injuries suffered in
a traffic accident in Waco.
Waco Police Sgt. Bill Hatfield said Mrs. Varnell made an improper
turn from the wrong lane at the intersection of North 17th and
Washington about 1 p.m. and collided with a car driven by Joseph
Henry Martin, 43, of Waco.
Mrs. Varnell was pronounced dead at Waco Hillcrest Hospital at 2:20
p.m., according to a hospital spokesman. Martin was treated for
minor injuries an released.
Mrs. Varnell served as executive secretary of the American Red Cross
in Corsicana from 1962-75. She was a past district director of the
Business and Professional Woman's Club and a past president. She
also was a charter member of the American Business Women's
Association and a former postmaster at Barry.
She was the widow of Percy Varnell, a member of the Corsicana
Emergency Corps. She was an active member of First Baptist Church,
Corsicana, and a member of its choir.
She transferred her membership to First Baptist Church, of
Corsicana, from the Barry Baptist Church in August, 1962. She served
as pianist and a teacher in the children's department. She was a
president of the Baptist Women's group and active with the Woman's
Missionary Union.
Service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, with the
Rev. B. F. Risinger officiating. Burial will be in
Dresden Cemetery,
with Griffin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Mike Varnell of Corsicana; and one
sister, Mrs. D. C. Tyler of Milford.

J. M. MOORE, FATHER TWO HIGH-RANKING AIR FORCE OFFICERS, PASSES
J. M. Moore, aged 74 years, died at his home in Hubbard Wednesday
morning at 4 o’clock after an extended illness.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending advices from relatives.
A native of Tennessee, he was reared at Drane, and resided in the
Emmett community, where he owned extensive land holdings, until
1909. After a year spent at Midland, he moved to Hubbard where he
has since resided. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Surviving are his wife of Hubbard, three sons, Lieut. Col. I. G.
Moore, U. S. Army Air Forces, Tucson, Ariz., Col. Aubry L. Moore, U.

Funeral services for J. M. Moore, who died at his home in Hubbard

missionary, and former pastor of the church. Burial was in the
Dresden cemetery.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Moore was reared at Drane, and resided in
the Emmett community for many years. He had resided at Hubbard for
more than 30 years, and owned extensive farming interests in Hill
and Navarro counties.
Surviving are his wife of Hubbard; three sons, Lieut. Col. Isaac
Moore, formerly of Ennis, U. S. Air Forces, Tucson, Ariz.; Col
Aubrey L. Moore, U. S. Forces, Second Command, Colorado Springs; and

daughters, Miss Sue Moore, librarian, Blinn Memorial College,

Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the First Baptist church in
Hubbard. The rites were conducted by Rev. M. O. Cheek, Waco,
district Baptist missionary, and former pastor of the church.
Burial was in the Dresden Cemetery.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Moore was reared at Drane and resided
in the Emmett community for many years. He had resided at
Hubbard for more than 30 years, and owned extensive farming
interests in Hill and Navarro county.
Surviving are his wife of Hubbard; three sons, Lieut,-Col. I. G.
Moore, formerly of Ennis, U. S. Air Forces, Tucson, Ariz.; Col.
Aubrey L. Moore, U. S. Forces, Second Command, Colorado Springs;
and Allen Moore, U. S. Government employee, Trinidad Island; two
daughters, Miss Sue Moore, librarian, Blinn Memorial College,
Brenham, and Mrs. J. W. Faulkner, Port Arthur; two
grandchildren, Carolyn Sue and Jimmie Faulkner, Port Arthur;
three brothers, W. P. Moore, Frost; E. L. Moore, Irene, and I.
L. Moore, Mustang, Denton county; a sister, Mrs. Bettie Conway,
Emmett, and other relatives.
Col. I. G. Moore arrived by plane at Dallas early Wednesday
night and Col. A. L. Moore, accompanied by Captain Lynn Sanders,
Jr., of Corsicana arrived by plane at Waco Wednesday afternoon.

Crecelius Rites Held Saturday
Funeral services for L. D. Crecelius, 69, who died at his home in
Lamesa Thursday, were held from the Dresden Methodist church at 3
p.m. Saturday. Burial was in the
Dresden Cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Tom Allmon of Hubbard and Rev. Jack
Goff, both Baptist ministers.
Crecelius formerly resided in Navarro County.
Surviving are his wife of Lamesa, a son, Emmett Crecelius, Lamesa; a
daughter, Mrs. Ellis Yates of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; three
brothers, H. H. Crecelius, Dallas; John Crecelius, Rio Vista and O.
A. Crecelius, Corsicana; four sisters, Mrs. J. E. Bishop, Mrs. W. M.
Reed and Mrs. Jim Reed, all of Shallowater, and Mrs. C. M. Eppler,
Lancaster, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Clarence Putman, Alvis Putman, Albert Mosely,
Walter Forshow, Preston Peden and Grady Thomas.

Rites Held Friday Mrs. R. W. Varnell From Barry Church
Funeral services for Mrs. R. W. Varnell, 64, long-time resident of
the Barry community, who died at the Navarro Clinic here Thursday
morning were held from the Methodist church at Barry Friday
afternoon at 2:30. Revs. Vernon White and J. U. McAfee conducted the
rites. Burial was in the
Dresden cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, three sons, two brothers and other
relatives.

MRS. R. W. VARNELL DIED THURSDAY IN LOCAL HOSPITAL
Mrs. R. W. Varnell, 64, died at the Navarro Clinic Thursday morning.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the
Methodist church at Barry. Revs. Vernon White and J. U. McAfee will
conduct the rites and interment will be in
Dresden cemetery.
Mrs. Varnell was a pioneer resident of Barry and took an active part
in all movements in the interest of the community.
Surviving are her husband, R. W. Varnell, Barry; three sons, W. T.
Varnell, Gulfport, Miss.; R. R. Varnell, U. S. Army Air Forces;
Robert W. Varnell, U. S. Navy; two brothers, R. E. McCarty, Barry;
W. S. McCarty, Barry and other relatives.

Brushie Prairie Resident Expires
Mrs. R. E. Selby, 63, life-long resident of the Brushie Prairie
community, died in Memorial Hospital here Thursday night following a
heart attack suffered earlier in the day.
Funeral services will be held from the Fairview Baptist church at
Raleigh Friday at 4 p.m. Burial will be in the
Dresden cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Van George, pastor of the
church, and Rev. O. L. McCollum, Ennis, pastor of the Providence
Baptist church.
Surviving are her husband of Brushie Prairie; two sons, Emmett
Selby, Fort Worth, and Wayne Selby, Frost; a daughter, Mrs. Effie
Mildred Moore, Ennis; eight grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Annie
Melton, Dresden, and a number of nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Pallbearers will be Sam Melton, J. R. Melton, Carl Hollingsworth,
Clide Hillingsworth, Harvey Hollingsworth, and Roy Hollingsworth,
all nephews.

Retired Farmer Services Friday
Funeral services for W. H. Carrell, 83, who died Thursday afternoon
at his home in the Emmett community, were held Friday at 3:30 p.m.
from the Emmett Baptist church. Burial was in the
Emmett cemetery.
Carrell, a retired farmer, suffered a stroke 10 years ago.
Surviving are his wife of Emmett; two daughters, Mrs. Bill Anderson,
Malone, and Mrs. Hauk Bullard; 19 grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Maynard Holcomb Fatally Injured In Monday Mishap
Maynard Holcomb, 25, Corsicana city fireman for eight years, died in
Memorial Hospital Monday afternoon about two hours after his
automobile went out of control and overturned.
The accident occurred on Highway 31 near Chambers Creek bridge
Monday 12:30 p.m. His death is the eighteenth traffic fatality in
Navarro county in 1955 and the second of the Christmas holiday
weekend in this area.
Funeral services will be held from the Griffin Funeral Chapel
Wednesday at 2 p.m. with burial in the
Emmett cemetery.
The rites will be conducted by Rev. Jack N. Bell, pastor of the
Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a native of Emmett and had been with the Corsicana fire
department since 17 years of age. He had been on duty at the fire
department Monday morning, associates said, and at the time of the
accident, was traveling in a westerly direction toward Corsicana. He
was alone. The car was demolished.
A McCammon ambulance carried the fatally injured man to Memorial
Hospital. He was suffering with a fractured skull, broken
collarbone, fractured pelvis, broken left leg, shock and other
injuries.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Holcomb; a son, Ricky Don
Holcomb; a daughter, Ronda Dale Holcomb; parents, Mr. And Mrs. W. O.
Holcomb, all of Corsicana; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Holcomb
[should be William Alfred Holcomb],
Blooming Grove, and Mrs. W. S. Dunagan, Corsicana, and other
relatives.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Tieman, W. M. Lynch, Weldon Yeilding,
Leslie Rascoe, Billy Tarkington and Arthur Burleson.
City Commissioners conferred today and announced through City
Secretary Bill Elliott that the city hall offices will close from 12
noon until 3 p.m. Wednesday to allow those who desire to attend the
funeral services for the fireman.

resident, died at Midland Thursday.
Funeral services were held from the First Baptist church here
Saturday at 2 p.m. with burial in the
Emmett cemetery.
The services were conducted by Rev. Marvin Rogers and Rev. W. O.
Estes, pastor of the church.
Surviving are his wife of Midland; six sons, H. C., H. W. and D. K.
Christian all of Midland; R. L. Christian, Bowie; C. H. Christian,
Fort Hood, and R. T. Christian, Dawson; four daughters, Mrs. Carmen
Brownigg, Odessa; Mrs. E. A. Pugh, Tennessee Colony; Mrs. Eddie
Crawford, Midland, and Mrs. Sam Manley, Palestine; two sisters, and
a number of other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Parry Lee Wyatt, 59, native of Emmett who
died in an Athens hospital Wednesday afternoon, were held Friday at
10:30 a. m. from the Willow Springs Baptist Church. Burial was in
the Emmett cemetery.
The rites were conducted by Rev. Olen Cantrell and Rev. Irvin Mills.
Mrs. Wyatt had resided at Cross Roads for the past 15 years. She was
a member of the Baptist church, Eastern Star and Rebekahs.
Surviving are her husband, Herman Wyatt, Cross Roads; a daughter,
Mrs. Peggy Stewart, Beaumont; two grandchildren; a brother, D. H.
Northern, Emmett; a sister, Mrs. Mary Fuller, Talco, and other
relatives.
